Chapter 1: The Choice
Chapter Text
Mia and her friends had returned to the Elven Crater after finally ridding the beautiful island of Centopia of that witch Panthea.
Mia, Mo and Yuko had flown around in the air holding hands, spinning around in an almost dancing manner. Onchao had flown close to them with Phuddle holding onto his mane as the friends flew around enjoying themselves.
However unknown to the friends, Mia’s human friends Paula and Vincent had been watching the scene from Mia’s book. Vincent had called out to her, but it seemed she couldn’t hear him.
Mia and the others flew down to the palace just after the king and queen had signalled them to come down.
On the Palaces golden porch, Mayla and Raynor signalled for the other elves to gather round.
“My faithful subjects. Today Panthea has been beaten, and to that we owe these brave heroes.” Raynor said with an au of pride and the elves applauded.
“Mo, you have made me, and your father very proud.” Mayla said as she embraced her son.
Mo returned the embrace as the elves applauded once again, this time, with Mia, Yuko and Phuddle joining in.
“Due to your brave actions, we may once more live in peace. As such, such heroism deserves accommodation, each of you must simply ask, anything, if it is with in our power, shall be given as your reward.”
They all looked to each other, shocked and happy by this, when it came to deciding who would go first, Mo decided to speak first.
“Father, having thought it over. I would like to request that I be excused from any not completely essential prince duties so I may enjoy a good while of this new peace with my friends.” Mo said waving back at the others.
“I would also request the same for my guard duties, I want to hang with you guys and have some fun.” Yuko said to which Onchao and Phuddle yelled and whinnied in agreement.
The only one there that looked unsure was Mia. She wondered, if now that Panthea was gone, would she still be able to come to Centopia.
As the happy moment came to an end the others all looked to Mia, realising she looked concerned and or afraid. A short silence followed for a brief moment before Mayla spoke.
“Mia, what’s wrong?”
“It’s just, will I still be able to come back now that Panthea’s gone.” Mia said back to Mayla while clutching her wrist above the bracelet.
“No way. I refuse to think that you should have to leave forever after stopping Panthea and saving us.” Yuko said, with Mo nodding in agreement.
Onchao went over and nuzzled Mia, as a few small tears fell. He didn’t want to never see her again.
“Uhm.” Came the grunt from the king.
“Mia, did I or did I not say you merely need to ask?”
Mia’s eyes widened. “You mean, I can stay.”
Raynor nodded. “You were the instrument that ended panthea, it was you who revealed the power of the Trumptus, and in the end the one who used it to rid us of Panthea once and for all.”
“If it is that you ask for Mia, there may be a way.” Raynor finished.
At this notion Mia’s eyes welled up with tears, she could stay. Before she had the chance to think on it anymore, a loud wind caught their attention, they all turned to see Lyria making her way through the elven crowd to reach the group.
At the sight of his mother, Onchao saddled up to her and gave her a happy nuzzle, before allowing her to approach Mia. Lyria leaned her head over Mia’s shoulder allowing Mia to hug her.
Mia, I am so proud of you. My Child-of-Two-Worlds, do you really mean to stay.
“Yes, Lyria you're my family. You and Onchao, I want to be with you.”
Then perhaps we may help Child-of-Two-Worlds.
Mia then looked passed Lyria to see the four elemental unicorns, remembering what happened before Mia tried to keep from reading their marks. They stood gathered near on of the newly refilled palace ponds.
Child, as you have protected Centopia, we will intern help you now. Said the Fire Unicorn.
Lyria motion for Mia to move over to them. Once she did, the elemental unicorns gathered around her in a circle. The unicorns torched their horns together causing a bright white light to be produced. The light shot down in a beam of energy, it flowed around Mia before moving over her bracelet and into its gem.
As the last of the energy faded, the unicorns moved out of the circle.
We have used our power to make it so you can come and go as you please.
Mia smiled as she held her wrist with her other hand, holding the bracelet to her chest, almost feeling happy tears come to her eyes. At seeing this Mo and Yuko ran over and asked what they had done.
“I can stay, they made it so I can come and go from here at any time I want.” Mia said as she and her elf friends embraced, Mo and Yuko smiled ear to ear.
However, the embrace was forcibly broken, by the understandably jealous little unicorn brother of the pink haired elf. Onchao forced his way into the embrace making Mia, Mo and Yuko laugh as they struggled to hold the embrace together with him.
The embrace was once more interrupted, when Mia herd the Earth Unicorn speaking.
But Child-of-Two-Worlds, be aware, there is a price for this gift. The earth unicorn said.
“Name it, no matter what, if I have my friends I will do it.”
The elemental unicorns could be heard nickering happily at this, it was confusing to the elves however as they could not understand unicorns like Mia.
Swear to us that you, and Child-of-Gold will for fill the destiny that One-of-Hope has placed on you. The wind unicorn said with conviction.
And one other task, this is on a more personal level, for us, and One-of-Kindness. Water said looking over at Lyria.
Discover what became of our friend, leader, and trusted ally; One-of-Foresight. Or as we know him, Ono the unicorn king.
‘The unicorn king, what did they mean personal for Lyria.’
“Lyria, want do they mean?”
Lyria breathed before speaking. Ono is the king of the unicorns, and also my mate. Onchao’s father. When Panthea wanted to take unicorn horns, he fought back. But we never saw him again. Lyria said as a small tear fell from her.
Mia and Onchao then came over to her and comforted her.
Mia then looked at Lyria and the elemental unicorns before speaking. “After all that Lyria has done for me, I swear, I’ll find out what the witch did to Ono. And if he’s out there, I’ll bring him home.”
At this all the unicorns whinnied with joy.
Onchao sauntered up to Mia and held her close with his wing. You mean we’ll bring him home sis.
“Yes, we, you, me and our friends. We’ll find out what happened to him.”
Mia looked to her friends and then to her bracelet. “I need to head back for a bit but once I have a chance. I’ll come home.” Mia embraced Onchao and Lyria again.
Don’t be away too long Mia.
“I promise Lyr… Mum.” Mia said with a smile as she pressed the gem on her bracelet and disappeared.
Mia materialised out of the golden light back in the garden house, her wings and pink hair exposed with no illusion to hide them. Paula staring in awe of the of human elf girl.
“Mia, did you, do it?” Vincent asked, with a slightly eager sound in his voice.
Mia’s face became serious, as she nodded. “Panthea is no more. What’s more, I found Lyria, she was alive the whole time.” Mia said with a smile, a hand coming to touch her heart, partly due to the pain from her injury.
“Ok, as interesting as all this is.” Paula said waving her hands around.
“Can you two please explain all this already?” She demanded with an almost adorable stomp of her feet, which only served to make her two friends laugh.
Mia then went on to tell Paula about how her Mum and Dad used to tell her about Centopia every night before bed, and how the day she arrived at the school, she was given the book.
“Ok, but what’s with the wings?”
“Well, the first night here, I couldn’t sleep. So, I went to the bathroom and found I could do magic, just like in Centopia.
When I tried on of them, and then I saw my elf face in the mirror. And over time I changed more, my hair changing her, my wings growing.”
Paula blinked in confusion. “We share a room. How did I not see them before now?”
“Illusion spell.” Said both Mia and Vincent.
“Ok then.”
At this Mia looked at Vincent, how just shrugged.
“Ok all this aside, good news. Not only is Panthea gone, but thanks to the Elemental Unicorns, I can now go to Centopia whenever I want.” Mia said triumphantly.
“Good, then maybe you’ll work up the courage to tell Mo and Yuko how you feel.” Vincent said with a sly grin on his face.
Mia scowled right before drawing and ice Ruin in the air and making the ice go down the back of Vincents shirt. Making him let out a shriek as he tried to get it out.
Vincent should know, never mess then an Elf with magic.
Chapter 2: The Explanation
Summary:
Mia continues to speak with Paula and Vincent about her most recent visit, to her unicorn and elf filled second home.
I know this one is short but I wanted to put this one out now before I forgot.
Chapter Text
After Vincent had managed to remove the magically made ice from his shirt, he was met with Mia laughing her head off.
“Oh, very funny Mia.”
“I thought so, besides its good practice for my spells.” Mia said with a smirk, Vincent then went to grab her, however Mia had a certain advantage, she could fly.
As Vincent charged, Mia used her wings and flew out of his way, leading to Vincent falling flat on the coffee table.
“Oo, You alright Vincent?” Asked a mildly concerned Paula.
“Ow.” Was the only response from the boy.
While Mia floated in the air, grasping her sides due to her laughing.
Vincent got up and brushed himself off, before looking up at his still flying friend.
“Ok, Vincent, I’m sorry for the ice. But YOU. NEVER. TRY. THAT. AGAIN.” Mia said hovering in front of him with her hand blazing pink, a small version of what had happened at Panthea’s palace.
Vincent held his hands up in surrender, Mia smirked and lowed to the floor. Mia then drew the illusion ruin on her hand, causing her wings, pink hair and other elf features to disappear.
“So, this Mo and Yuko, there the elves we saw you dancing with?” Paula asked.
Mia then looked over to Paula with a perplexed look on her face. “You saw us, how?”
Paula pointed at the book before speaking. “It flipped open, and we saw the palace, you and the others flying, so from all this I’m guessing that Yuko and Mo are the elves that stole your heart.” Paula said with a smirk.
Mia blushed, clearly a little embarrassed. “That right, Mia’s got the hots for the elf prince and his guard.” Vincent said in a nonchalant way.
Mia scowled at him, before drawing a water ruin above his head. Next thing Vincent the smart mouth knew, he was drenched. Spiting some of the water out of his mouth and he wiped his eyes, Vincent was met with the still scowling Mia.
“I’m pretty sure I did warn you.” Mia said, which seemed to make Paula laugh.
“Carful Paula, I have more than enough magic to do the same to you.”
After that, Paula made the wise choice to stay quiet about Mia’s relationships.
Mia then used a mild fire spell to try Vincent off, however it did make his hair puff out.
Mia suppressed a laugh at this.
“Mia what happened after the dancing, the book closed, and we couldn’t see what happened.”
Mia then when onto explain how the king had planned to reward them for saving Centopia, anything they wanted, if it was within his power.
“Mo asked to relived from his prince duties that weren’t essential, so we could all have some fun. Yuko asked the same for her guard duties.”
Mia then let out a sigh of happiness.
“That was when I expressed how I wanted to stay, as besides my aunt and grandfather, Lyria and Onchao are all the family I have.”
“Ok, now I’m lost.” Paula stated. “How are they your family Mia, I mean, their unicorns, and your human, or are you an Elf now, I’m so confused.”
Mia scowled for a moment as she thought how to respond.
“Ok so it goes something like this. Unicorns do this thing called ‘marking’ it’s how they designate their children. And it’s often what they call them. Mine is ‘Child-of-Two-Worlds’, Onchoa’s is ‘Child-of-Gold.’ However, we both have another part to our marks, apparently given by a very special unicorn, they call her “One-of-Hope” the Unicorn of Centopia.”
Paula was still trying to process that her roommate was a magical Elf, now this.
Vincent was equally confused, Mia shared a lot about her trips to Centopia, but never this much detail, and there was new stuff from this trip too.
“The mark that she gave us added to the ones we already had. Mine is ‘Child-of-Two-Worlds-Peace-Balance-Home’, and Onchao’s is ‘Child-of-Gold-Peace-Healing-Life’. Our marks both have ‘Peace’ in them, Lyria said our destinies are linked.”
“So, if marking designates children, what does that make you Mia?” Paula asked her friend.
Mia smiled before answering. “Well, a unicorn named Volo said, that the mark shows me as Lyria’s first heir, meaning for all intents purposes, Lyria, is my mother, and Onchao, my little brother.”
And just like that, their minds went.
Chapter 3: Reunion’s & Truth
Summary:
Mia’s term at her school is over, and with it she ends one adventure, to being a whole new one.
Chapter Text
Paula and Vincent sat on the couch looking like someone had found their proverbial off button.
Mia stood looking at them for a moment before deciding it was time to snap them out of it.
Mia drew a water ruin and made a sphere of water appear above her friends' heads. That is before lowering her arm and making it drop on them.
Paula and Vincent sputtered and yelled at the sudden soaking.
“What the heck Mia?” Vincent said as he got to his feet.
“Well sorry, but I had to snap you out of it somehow. And anyway, I need the practice.”
“And anyway, I wanna go see the fireworks. While my magic is good, who can pass up a firework show.” Mia then drew a fire ruin again a making her friends dry out, only it had the same result as before with the hair for Vincent.
“Oh, come on, does your magic have it in for me or something Mia?”
Mia just shrugged in response.
With that the three of them went outside to watch the firework display.
The brilliant displays of the different colours of the rainbow exploded across the sky, again and again.
After another 15 minutes or so, the display came to a close with a massive final firework that lite up the sky in a brilliant explosion of every colour you could see, secondary bangs that then fizzled out like a sparkler.
“Ok, that was so cool.” Mia said.
“I’ll say.” Vincent agreed.
“Mia, can you please do some more magic I really need to see some more. Plus, I didn’t know about this till now.”
Mia giggled. “Ok, ok. But not here, we’ll do it back in the dorms.”
“That being said, we should head back anyway. We all have a lot of packing to do.” Vincent said, his friends nodded in agreement.
After that the three of them headed back to their dorm rooms. Once in their room after making sure the door was locked. Mia took out her book and showed Paula all the other pictures.
“Mia, you said you saw the elf you in the mirror, can I see it. I mean I saw with the book but.”
“Yeah sure.” Mia then walked over the bedroom mirror.
Raising her hand, Mia drew an illusion ruin and directed it at the mirror. In an instant Mia’s human reflection was replaced by her elf self.
“Wow.”
Looking at her reflection, Mia felt, slightly uncomfortable when she looked down at herself. The version of her she saw in the mirror felt real, the one she was right now. Not so much.
Maybe it had something to do with the way her body changed in this world.
“Not gonna lie Mia. Mo and Yuko have will definitely have a beautiful girlfriend when you tell them.”
Mia blushed at the comment. Mia then held her hand up and sent the mirror illusion away. Before releasing the one on her body, Mia’s hair regained its pink highlights, her wings showed proudly again, and although you could not see it, her canines had sharpened slightly.
Mia stretched both her arms and wings before a yawn escaped her lips in the process.
“Man, sometimes I hate that spell. It always takes so much of my magic to hide all this.”
“I’m so sorry Mia, if we had been friends from the beginning, you wouldn’t have had to hide it from me.”
Mia put a hand on Paula’s shoulder. “It’s alright. And that’s one of the reasons I’m glade I can come and go from Centopia anytime I want. and since it brings me back only a few minutes after I left, I could spend days having fun with my friends, and my family there. Then come back like nothing happened.”
“But what about your family here?”
Mia looked at Paula before speaking. “My parents are gone. All I have in this world is my aunt and my grandpa. Onchao and Lyria are my family too, and there may be one more added to that list.”
“Huh, who.”
Mia smiled, “when the Elemental Unicorns used their power to allow me to come and go when I want, they asked something of me. To find out what happened to Ono, king of the Unicorns, Onchao father, Lyria’s mate.”
And just like before in the garden house, Paula’s mind just shut off.
“PAULA SNAP OUT OF IT OR ILL SOAK YOU AGAIN.” Mia half yelled while shaking her.”
“Ok, I’m back. Ok so if this Ono is Onchao’s father, does that make him yours too?”
Mia rubbed her face in thought for a moment. “Well, not exactly, I think anyway. In order for it to work like that, Ono would need to give me his mark too. We’d still need to find him.”
Paula smiled as she draped her arm over Mia’s shoulder. “Well once you do. Both you, and Onchao will have a father.”
Mia breathed in as she griped her bracelet. “I hope so. I don’t want to replace Mum and Dad. But Onchao and Lyria, make the pain forgettable, easier. I just hope that Ono will like me.”
“You kidding, you protected his son more time than you can count. Saved his mate, and helped bring life back to the island. I bet the minute he learns this, he’ll be proud to call you, his daughter.”
After all the emotion speeches, Mia allowed a small tear to fall, before hugging Paula before changing into her pyjamas and climbing into bed, not reengaging her illusion and just letting her other, no… her real self show, as she began drifting, into the land of dreams.
A few hours later, Mia woke up. She looked at her phone, realising it was still too early to go get up and start packing, Mia decided to open her book.
After flipping through page after page, Mia found one with a picture of herself, Mo, yuko, Onchao and Lyria all sitting together.
“Once I’m at Grandpa Renzo’s. I’ll come home everyone, and by all the magic I’ve got. I’ll tell you too how I feel.” Mia said before kissing the image of Yuko and Mo.
Mia placed the book on the nightstand, before closing her eyes and drifting back to sleep.
A few hours later, Mia was woken by the alarm she had set on her phone the night before. It was about 7am, her aunt was coming to pick her up at round ten.
Not wanting to waist any time, Mia got out of bed and got too it. After talking a quick shower, Mia put on her uniform. It annoyed her she had to wear it today even though they were leaving, but she didn’t want to steer the pot today.
Just after getting dressed Mia saw herself in the mirror, she had changed more. Her hair was nearly completely pink, with only a few small streaks of dark brown still visible. Her eyes had changed as well, her irises had changed to that all to familiar violet colour they were in Centopia.
Mia giggled slightly as she lifted her hair looking at her ears. “With everything going on, these will probably be next.”
Mia smiled at her undisguised self, it felt nice to be in this world and not have that illusion running. To be able to see her changes without going to Centopia.
However, the moment had to end, sighing; Mia drew the illusion ruin on her hand and felt the all too familiar drain on her magic. Her wings vanished, her hair and eyes returned to their normal brown colour.
Mia then pulled her suitcase out from under the bed and opened it up on said bed. Grabbing her cloths from the wardrobe, Mia fold them up, before just tossing them in the case willy nilly.
Once they were inside, Mia grabbed her phone to check the time, it was almost nine, so she had plenty of time. However, her roommate had yet to get up.
Marching over Mia yelled at Paula.
“WAKE UP PAULA.”
“Ahh.” Came the cry from the now awake girl.
“Mia, what was that for?”
“It’s almost 9 sleepy head; the pickup is at 10.”
After that, Paula shot out of the bed like rocket.
Mere seconds late Paula shot into then back out of the bathroom in her uniform.
“Did not know you could go that fast Paula.”
“When I’m motivated, I can do anything.”
With that Paula started her packing at a rushed but also calm pace. Mia was sitting on her bed looking at her book, particular the picture of her, Onchao and Lyria.
“That’s them, isn’t it?”
“Huh?” Came Mia’s response to the question.
“That’s Onchao and Lyria, your Centopian family right.” Paula said.
“Yeah, that’s them.”
“I’m surprised you didn’t go back to see them quick.”
“I had thought about it, but now that I can go whenever I want, I’m gonna wait till I’m out of here, I don’t want to risk coming back with someone in the room.”
“Fare.”
“Ping.” Came a sound from Mia’s phone.
Mia looked at it, to see a msg from her aunt saying she was almost there.
“Looks like I’ll be heading off soon.”
Before Paula could respond, Mia’s book flung open, flipping to a blank page. Suddenly inverted pink ruins appeared on the page.
Mia was shocked, an oracle, but why. Whipping out her hand mirror to let her read the ruins.
“What’s it say?” Asked Paula.
“It says “Tell Reno’s and Annie.”
“Isn’t, that the names of your grandpa and aunt?”
“Isn’t
“Yeah, it is.”
Paula smiled before putting a hand on Mia’s shoulder. “Maybe it means you should tell them about all of this, it will be good for you. If Lyria and Onchao are your family, your family in this world should know about your other life.”
“Maybe.”
Paula finished packing her stuff, as Mia sat on her bed looking through her book. Mia then looked at her phone, it was almost time. She never thought this would be so emotional, when she first came here, all she wanted was to leave. Now, the thought hurt.
“There, I’m done.” Paula said.
“Good, I’m gonna head downstairs to see if I can find Vincent before I go.”
“I’m coming too.”
With that the two friends headed out of their room with their belonging, each taking one last look back at the room before heading downstairs.
Once they were downstairs they waited by the main door until they saw Vincent coming over, with a duffle bag thrown over his shoulder and a wheel suitcase trailing behind him.
“Well, look like this is it.”
“For now, at least.”
The moment becoming more tense, Mia too the initiative and pulled her friends into a hug. Initially shocked the two returned the hug. As the friends held each other close, they saw a certain spoiled rich girl scoff at them, and she got in a limo.
As they released the embrace, Vincent rolled his eyes at Violetta’s car as it drove off.
Looking down at the gate Mia saw a familiar silver coloured minivan drive in after the limo exited. “Theres my aunt, I promise ill call you guys when I can.”
“Same.” Vincent said.
“Agreed.”
Mia then waled over to the car. Her aunt Annie got out of the car and gave Mia a near crushing hug. Mia did the best she could to keep her hidden wings still, while she wanted to tell her about Centopia, here was not the right place.
“So, Mia, was it as bad as you thought?” Annie asked.
“No, after a while, it was fun. And I made some good friends.”
Annie smiled. “That’s great, now come on you have a train to catch to get to Renso’s.”
Mia waved to Paula and Vincent as she put her stuff in the car.
As they drove out of the grounds and onto the road, Mia looks to her backpack at her feet, before pulling out her book.
“Aunty, can I ask you a question?”
“Of course, Mia.”
Mia took in a breath before she spoke, clearing her mind and letting the words take form.
“What does the word, Centopia, mean to you, aunty.”
Annie’s eyes widened, doing her best to focus of the road while.
“Mia, where did you hear that name?”
Mia held her book close. “From mum and dad. They would tell me stories about it. And this book, was in the present they left me.”
Annie signed. “Mia, as you know your father was an explorer long before he married your mother. On one of his adventures he found a, well there’s no other way to say it, magic stone. The stone transported him to another world, full of flying elves, magic, unicorns. But I’m guess you already know about that part don’t you Mia?”
Annie said pointing at Mia’s bracelet.
“So, Dad went to Centopia too.”
“He did, my silly little brother was like a little kid when he came back, I didn’t believe him at first, until…” Annie trailed off.
“What, until what?”
Annie smiled at her memory. “Until he took me and our dad there. It was beautiful, we got to meet amazing people. It was also, where he met your mother, Mia.”
“Wait what.”
“That’s right Mia, your mum was from that place. She met your father when he first arrived, and over time they fell in love.”
“Wow.” Mia put her hands to her head.
It was a lot to absorb all at once.
“About 2 years after that, they got married, the whole island was there for their ceremony, even the the king and queen of the elves. And the king and queen of the unicorns.”
“Wait. Raynor, Mayla, Ono, and Lyria knew mum and dad.”
That got Annie’s attention. “You know them, Mia?”
“Yes, well three of them. I met Lyria when I fist went to Centopia, then Raynor and Mayla on my next visit.”
Annie smiled; she pulled the car over into a lay-by on the side of the road. Before turing to look at Mia.
“It’s no surprise I guess that you met Lyria first, she and Ono were very close with your mum. She could even understand them.”
Realisation donged on Mia, “so that’s why I can understand Unicorns. I get it from mum.” Mia said smiling ear to ear.
“You can understand them too, wow Mia. If she were here, I know Alessia would be proud of you.” Annie said as she hugged Mia.
“So, tell me is Centopia still the peaceful teenager filled island I remember.”
Mia visibly hesitated but then let out a sad sigh before speaking.
“Well, it is now. But it wasn’t for a while, an evil elf called Panthea was stealing the horns of unicorns to keep herself young. The island was dying.”
Annie looked visibly hurt at hearing this, an elf, killing that beautiful place, and hurting the unicorns.
Annie then looked at her watch, before restarting the engine.
“Mia, while I do want a full explanation of all that, you have a train to catch. I’ll be over at Grandpa Renzo’s tonight, you can tell me then, ok?”
Mia responded with a nod.
After a few minutes of driving, they arrived at the train station.
“Ok here’s your ticket and the train should be along soon, I, see you at the farm later.”
“Right.”
“Oh, and Mia, be sure to tell Renzo all about this, he’ll want to know too.”
“Ok, I’ll so you later Aunty.” Mia said as she ran up the platform.
