Chapter Text
"Happy Birthday, Nathaniel!" His mother cooed as he walked into the kitchen.
"Thanks." The redhead muttered, brushing a stand of hair behind his ear, already feeling a bit embarrassed.
"I have your gift ready!"
"Mom-"
"I know, I know, you want to wait until after school-" The woman gently turned him around, "-but this gift is special. It's a family heirloom."
"Huh?"
The woman offered a black box with a red circular design on top, "Here."
Nathaniel blinked, confused. However, he took the box and opened it, seeing it was a necklace. The chain was pure gold with an orange fox tail charm. It was honestly kind of cute.
"A fox?"
"Mhmm!" His mother smiled, "In most cultures, foxes represent evil little tricksters and sly creatures, doing anything to outsmart their prey! However, they can also represent intelligence and guidance. Foxes hold great wisdom and protect what needs to be protected." His mother closed the box gently in the redhead's hands, "This necklace is passed down to the first born child. My mother gave it to me, she got it from her father, so on, so forth. Now, it's your turn to hold onto it." The woman smiled, "Who knows, maybe you'll unlock it's special power!"
"'Special power?'" Nathaniel questioned.
"Yes! You see, the story goes that our ancestor saved a fox deity from a group of hunters. As an act of gratitude, the fox deity gave our ancestor a necklace that they can use at any time to call for their aid and use their power."
"Cool." The redhead hummed.
"I think so." She chuckled, "Well now, finish getting ready."
"Right."
Nathaniel finished grabbing his notebooks he accidentally left on the kitchen counter as well as grabbed an apple to eat for breakfast before going to his room to get the rest of his school stuff. He put the box on his desk before grabbing his book bag, leaving to make it to his first class.
Me? Special powers? Yeah right. The redhead rolled his eyes, Don't be ridiculous, Mom. If anyone were to get super powers, it definitely wouldn't be me.
He arrived at the university and saw people already crowding around. As he passed, he heard passing rumors about some new kid joining the university. He also heard the person was supposedly a friend of Chloe and he immediately cringed. If this guy's rich and friends with Chloe, chances are they're not going to be nice.
"Naaaaaaate!"
The redhead jumped and turned, just in time for Rose to nearly tackle him in a hug. He chuckled at the blonde girl's antics, "Hey, Rose. Where's Juleka?"
"Not here yet, but I saw you and wanted to say hi!"
"Well, hi." He teased, the two pulling away, walking to their first period together.
"I heard we got two new students transferring here!" Rose said.
"Oh, really? I heard in passing about one being Chloe's friend or something."
"Oh, that's Adrien Agreste!"
"...Um-"
"Oh, come on! You know him! Son of Gabriel Agreste, famous Agreste clothing brand? His son is a model? Father refuses to go out after wife died and keeps his son couped up too?"
"...Sounds familiar..."
"You need to get your head out of comic books!"
"Hey!"
The two chuckled as they walked into their classroom. As they did, a girl with blue hair pulled back into two low ponytails ran into Nathaniel from behind, causing them both to fall.
"Ah, oh, god, I'm so sorry Nathaniel!" She exclaimed, offering her hand.
"It's cool, Marinette..." The redhead took her hand, "You okay?"
"I-I should be asking you that! Oh, god, I'm so sorry for my clumsiness..."
"It's fine, we all have our fair share of Marinette moments." He teased playfully.
Marinette blushed a bit in embarrassment before chuckling, "Well, still, I'm sorry."
"Seriously, don't worry about it." Nathaniel reassured, heading to sit by Rose.
The first day of school started off pretty normal. Because it was only the first day, there wasn't really any notes to be taken or actual hard work to be done. It was just small introduction papers to get through the day and pass the time.
After two classes, it was 11:30 and Nathaniel decided to go home for lunch and do some drawing, seeing as his next class wasn't until 2. He greeted his mother, who was working on her laptop, the woman smiling and waving. Nathaniel went to his bedroom, sitting at his desk, placing his notebooks and pencils right by the box containing his necklace. He opened his laptop, plugged it in, turned on his TV for background noise, and began working.
About ten minutes later, he heard "Breaking news!" from the TV.
The redhead turned and gasped, staring at the TV. A rock creature thing was running around the streets, destroying things and causing a huge scene.
"W-What the?! Is this some sort of dream?!" He said aloud.
As he watched the scene, he felt... strange. He looked at the box holding his fox necklace, a weird... sensation coming from it. Something was pulling him, towards it, something was telling him to open it. He hesitantly reached out, opening the box once more.
It... was his necklace.
But then, it started to glow and an orange glowing ball circled around Nathaniel, causing the redhead to gasp, pushing away from the weird orb.
Once it stopped glowing, a tiny... fox was floating in front of him.
"Hi!" It spoke, smiling brightly, "My name is Trixx, and I'm your kwami!"
Nathaniel screamed.
