Chapter 1: Red & Blue (First Flashback)
Chapter Text
Xavier School
The very school of the gifted to help protect and train mutants to control their powers, stood tall and busy as usual due to schooling but became calm down due to how late it was coming too and allowing the teachers to relax. The X-Men relax a little as there’s no Danger Room training today, which allows them to relax after several events have passed.
We see one of the X-Men, one of the first, Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops, finishing up a few things in his room/office. He was doing some work like grading papers and checking a few things on the students he had helped for the past couple of hours but it was coming along well. He was thinking about a certain redhead girlfriend of his and wanted to say the words as he even got a small black box that was seen on his deck. He wasn’t sure when or ready to say those words. Maybe fear of rejection or jealousy thought.
It was no surprise that Scott was very jealous of a certain mutant with claws - Logan better known as the Wolverine who had been flirting with Jean. He frowned and kind of wished Jean didn’t flirt back or spend time with Logan but there was little much he do and rather not cause a fight in the very school, his home he grew up in. Doesn’t stop the jealousy nor want a certain attention from his girl of late. And yes, they haven’t had any nightly activities for a long while nor sleep in the same bed as they used to.
“Not only that but it’s a bit confusing when Emma or Betsy try…well,” Scott thought, rubbing the back of his head and a small blush on his face on recalling those two telepaths for several reasons.
The White Queen has been flirting and trying to seduce Scott several times to cause some anger within Jean to add more confusion yet amusement for the blonde-haired beauty. Betsy, sure tried to seduce the brown-haired man but was more straightforward and even took a kiss which the pair agreed to not say about. Adds more confusion and some guilt but pushes that desire outwards and also wonders to ask Jean the question yet some fears of rejection stop him again. Maybe marriage wasn’t an option yet for the leader of the X-Men.
“Maybe I should find Jean and talk with her,” Scott thought as he got up from his chair and went to the door but was stopped when hearing the door nob turning and opened before his eyes to see someone coming in.
Scott blushed to match the color of his red-ruby sunglass and the same hair as Jean’s who was standing there before walking in, closing the door with her foot, and then locked the door. He blinked and was surprised at his girlfriend wearing black underwear with a certain golden bird on them with a grey/black sweater that was loose yet hugged her breast to show she wasn’t wearing anything underneath it.
“Jean, I-,” Scott tried to say but Jean just closed the gap and shushed by bringing her hand to his mouth to stop talking.
Scott kept quiet and waited to hear what Jean had to say but was confusion about why she wearing something that begged to be taken off. He waited and didn’t get much more confusion but the redhead seemed to sense that to learn in and removed her hand from his mouth to only replace it with her lips against his. All of that doubt was thrown out of the window for the optic-themed mutant and returned the kiss just as much as the red-haired beauty was giving him, slowly coming down on the floor with her on top. She had one hand feel his hair yet was careful to hit his glasses and the other was on his chest to feel his beating heart, making her moan and smile within the kiss as she straddled the hips in a position that made it clear what she wanted.
Still kissing that soon became heated and lustful, Scott wrapped his arms around Jean’s waist and kept kissing before moving upwards from her hips across her toned abdomen and feeling more of that smooth skin but soon felt something that surprised him when his thumb brushed up against three scars.
Then a cracking eerie sound came as the skin and clothes peeled back before Scott's eyes to see the form of Jean shifting & revealing her true form. She was now a beautiful woman with a unique appearance, with deep blue skin, along with darker blue scales all around her body, covering her private areas too, long crimson-colored hair with deep amber-colored eyes, which looked to be similar to those of a lizard. Her figure was slim and yet very developed, with wide hips, a slim waist, long well-shaped legs, and also a pair of pretty large breasts, from the looks of it clothes weren't needed for her as her scales covered the more important areas.
This was, Raven Darkholme better known as Mystique, one of the dangerous mutants and a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants.
“Mhmm~, you are not a bad kisser. Things can always get better~…,” Mystique said in a low yet seductive tone as her eyes stared through the red ruby glasses.
"M...M...Mystique?! W...W...What have you done with Jean?” Scott asked in shock yet embarrassment for some reason and how hard he was down below pressing against his pants towards the attractive woman on top of him.
That made him shiver a bit.
"Shhhh! No need to worry about right now. You have me,” Mystique started before moving her head towards Scott's left side towards his ear.
“You know what I want~,” Mystique finished in a slurry tone and whispered as she let her tongue lick the side of the neck towards the ear, causing Scott to hiss but not from disgust.
No, not from disgust. Mystique could tell it was the opposite and felt that heart beat hard through her chest. Rising heat building up and how hard he was pressing up against her wet heat down below. That build-up desires and lust for the shapeshifter to see how big the optic-themed mutant was.
Scott tried to push Mystique off of him but his body was betraying him as he shifted causing his hardened member to press close to that heat down below and trying to control this desire to remove his pants to take this beautiful woman before him. He didn’t want to betray Jean or her trust in him. Yet, some doubt is pushing more.
“But what do you want~?” Mystique asked, still in a slurry tone and holding her body weight onto Scott’s, whispering in his ear.
“Some peace,” Scott huffed with a moan and kept trying to fight this off, not wanting to cheat.
This was easy to see through by the shapeshifter due to her history of seduction and can read people pretty easily.
"Mmm, it seems your body is being more honest than your thoughts, Scott,” Mystique pointed out, seeing how Scott was resisting the lust and desires but could feel that hardened member.
“Not interest,” Scott frowned and was about to use his hands to push Mystique’s off him, placing his hands on her shoulders but struggled and was able to pin those hands down before above his hand.
Mystique then had a mischief smirk before a clicking sound was heard to Scott’s surprise and much more when he looked upwards to see his hands were handcuffed by one of his desk’s legs to avoid using his hands to remove his glasses.
"There we go. Now for the fun part~,” Mystique smirked as slowly slid herself downwards while unbuttoning the shirt to see a good chest build to a few scars from training and battles which she hummed in impress.
“Not bad~ but I want to see what your little friend has to say to me~,” She teased before going down to the pants and slowly removing them to get a little of an eye widen in surprise, seeing how Scott was very hard through those boxer underwear and lust building up a lot more than she thought.
Scott breathed heavily and a lot of emotions were attacking him left to right while closing his eyes to not see what was to come next, no longer struggling from his handcuffs above his head. He didn’t want to risk knocking his glass off and unleashing his powers. It could destroy a good part of the house and more damage to a living being when using a pure out-of-control optic laser blast from his eyes. He just closed his eyes in shame and everything to not feel anything but to his surprise, he didn’t feel his underwear being pulled off or anything to open his eyes to see the blue-skinned woman had resumed straddling his hips again, both ends pressed up against each other.
"Easy, Scott. I wanna have some with you. Trust me it will be enjoyed for both of us,” Mystique assured, not going to ruin this time and not a fan of assault.
Scott blinked and remained quiet.
"Now I'm gonna remove these so we could take this fun to the bed. Don't try to escape. I don't wanna hurt you, pretty boy,” Mystique informed with a wink and seemed honest.
Scott could only be quiet and know that Mystique could back up a threat yet at this point, feeling this desire and lustful building up. Seeing no fighting was a good sign, causing the blue-skinned mutant to smirk and move herself upwards a bit, having her breast in the face of the brown-haired man which he didn’t mind. She moaned a little as she slowly unlocked the handcuffs and threw the said cuffs away for the time being, showing she was serious.
"There we go. For not trying to escape, I'm gonna reward you with the choice of picking whoever I could do myself as,” Mystique said with a light smirk as she allowed Scott to rise up on his butt and still straddle on his lap for the time being and both would get what they want.
“It’s a bit too good to be true, Mystique,” Scott stated with a small frown on his face.
“Maybe but to ease your worries, I didn’t harm Jean. I have seen her hanging out with Wolverine and joining him on a bike ride,” Mystique said, letting it slip for two reasons to ease the worries and bring up the fact that cheating was happening.
This greatly surprised Scott to hear about and a bit sad on seeing how Jean wants to spend more time with Logan. And didn’t inform him about it, for several reasons.
“I…I see (sigh),” Scott said with a sigh but soon blinked in surprise when a red-haired woman kissed his cheeks in comfort and assured him to his surprise.
“What I want is to have an enjoyable night and I did say we both are going to enjoy this. And you deserve a reward after all. So, what do you want~?” Mystique asked in a kind tone before seductive as she gave the brown-haired man a light kiss on his lips.
A normal man or woman would fall into this situation and offer that Mystique was giving. And Scott was one of them, falling into that desire to agree with enjoying this offer on the table.
“I want a woman to give me pleasure trully,” Scott replied, finally taking the offer and enjoying the desire to lust.
“Good~,” Mystique smiled before kissing Scott again and this time he kissed back in the same amount of lust yet passion behind the kiss, getting moans between them.
The night was going to be wild between the pair and this secret affair would be more than a one-time thing.
Chapter 2: Alex Winters - The Mountains
Chapter Text
“This is our land, where our family hunted for nearly 200 years. Every family's son comes here and hunts to prove they are a man. A hunter for the family,” A mature man with white hair, one grey eye while his left eye was pure white with scars on his face, and wore thick winter gear as he hiked through the brushes & some snow of Alaska’s winter.
This was Samson Winters, the head of the family, yet he wasn’t alone; four teens were following him.
The first two were Samson’s oldest sons, Cole and Adrian Winters, who were both wearing thick green and red winter gear for the hunting trip. They both had brown hair but different lengths to stand out from each other and similar eye colors of grey to even brown. They were on their third hunting trip with their father.
The third was Sameson’s youngest son, who wore black and grey winter gear, including boots, gloves, and even a purple scarf around his neck. He had bright red hair that was short yet wild and blue-colored eyes like the ocean or sky. This was Alexander ‘Alex’ Winters, who was a tad bit nervous yet excited on his first hunting trip with his brothers and father, but he was glad he was able to bring along his close friend.
The fourth who was Alex’s friend wore a thick brown coat with light brown fur to his neckline, thick grey winter pants, boots, and matching gloves while carrying his shotgun on his back, unlike others who carried their firearms in their hands. He had wild yet tamed blonde hair with some sideburns and blue-colored eyes. This was Jimmy Hudson, a close friend of Alex and his family - The Hudsons happened to know the Winters back in the day of being prime hunters from America, Canada, and even Africa itself.
“I remember how I had to carry you three when you were pups on my shoulders or in my arms but each other of you had to learn to walk through these woods. Heck, one of you asked me if you could carry my rifle but your hands were too small to pull the trigger. Now, it’s time to show me what you all have learned for this hunt,” Samson informed with a small smile on his face, recalling those times when he carried his three sons up on these hills when it was spring those years ago.
The small group stopped at a small hillside and felt the wind coming in, getting Samson to breathe in and out to enjoy that fresh warm wind coming in. He knows what that means.
“Smell the wind…it means, welcome home,” Samson smiled as he led his sons and Jimmy upwards to keep on their hunting trip.
“Does the wind tell you about coming on this trip with a sandwich?” Adrian asked as a joke but was hungry from the long trip.
“Easy, Adrian,” Cole warned, knowing how their father can be when on hunting and how serious he can be.
“None of that. When hunting, you limit yourself but carry a good amount of food and water that’s very light & yet no track animals towards you. This is different from those small-time hunting trips we have taken, Adrian, Cole, and Alex. This a big one and so help me God, if hear that stupid cellphone of yours, I’ll dump your ass in that cold ass stream down there,” Samson warned his sons and their friend.
“Hey! I don’t need a history lesson. Alex and Jimmy do, they don’t how to chase anything that isn’t a skirt,” Adrian snapped to make fun of his little brother.
“Adrian…,” Cole said, warning his younger brother to stop messing with their little brother like that.
“In my defense, I do that. Alex is just my wingman, sir,” Jimmy said, defending his friend who was shy towards women at times.
“Mhmm-hmm, enough you three. This is Alex’s hunt today. His first time and means no messing around. Cole, don’t protect your brother. He has to learn to fight his battles. Adrian, enough, no horseplaying. And Jimmy…don’t drag my son into your playboy moments,” Samson informed, being a good warning and getting the boys straight up.
“Yes sir,” The four stated but got a shh from the expert hunter, and all of them lowered themselves down when they saw tracks up ahead.
Samson then signals for Alex to come on over to him and see the tracks with him.
“Look here, boy. Fresh tracks, hmm elk. A bunk and pretty close too. How far do you think it could be, Alex?” Samson asked, testing his youngest’s son tracking abilities.
Alex was quiet, looking at the tracks, and saw they were indeed fresh elk’s footprints, going a bit west. He looked around to see a few sources of wood that way, some fur on trees, and could follow those tracks up a small hill to see where the elk had gone too.
“Not far, most likely past that small hill. I could position myself up there and see where he has gone too,” Alex replied in a quick voice.
Samson nodded his head and said, “Not bad. Go ahead and see if you can see the elk. If not, signal us to come up and we will keep moving. If you see the elk, we’re waiting here. I want a clean kill.”
“Yes sir,” Alex nodded his head and slowly walked forward towards the small hillside.
Jimmy was quiet and looked around just in case something else popped out of these woods. He heard reports of bears, wolves, and mountain lion attacks of late in Alaska. He didn’t want his close friend who was like a brother to him be attacked by one of those wild animals.
“You sure about this, father?” Cole asked.
“I am. Don’t worry, Cole. Alex has to learn how to fight his own battles and hunt on his own. A man has got to learn lessons from his experience. For now, we will wait for the sound of his rifle or a signal to follow him,” Samson replied with a frown and looked around for any signs of mountain lions.
Adrian frowned and wanted to show his dad that he could carry the family’s legacy more than Cole & Alex. It belongs to him and was a better hunter out of them.
“Do these paths have mountain lions or other predators, sir?” Jimmy asked.
“Sometimes mountain lions but I’m more worried about wolves,” Samson replied, looking around for any black birds such as ravens or crows as sometimes that means a pack of wolves is not far behind.
“Wolves?” Adrian asked in surprise.
“I’m sure they won’t attack us unless we take one of their kills,” Cole assured to calm down his younger brother.
“Normally yes but I have been getting some reports of strange wolves appearing around the woods. I hope to finish this hunting trip before nightfall. It’s not a wise idea to hunt during the night,” Samson said with a frown and was growing concerned for Alex who hadn’t done anything when going past the hill nor heard a gunshot.
The old hunter would wait a few before taking the group with him to check up on the new hunter and for now, they’ll wait.
Back with Alex who had passed the small hill and crawled through the snow on his belly but was slow and careful to not make any sound. He saw the elk just away from where he was and saw a good size of horns he had on him. He got his hunting rifle out, carefully loading up a few bullets, and kept his eyes on his target who was slowly looking for food in the snow or trees. He looked around to be sure nothing would scare the elk off or any other animals nearby. He did see a lone raven bird on some branches of a tree not so far away from him, having this strange feeling that someone was watching him. He shook his head and did his best to block that off as he loaded up, aiming his rifle to point a good shot behind the shoulder and slowly pulled the trigger.
BANG!
One shot, a clean one at the heart, and elk fell over. Alex let out a sigh of relief and brought himself up to make his way towards his kill. He also saw that the same bird didn’t fly away from the sound of the gunshot and kept watching him with its yellow eyes before flying away when hearing footsteps rushing towards to see his father, brothers, & friend coming towards him.
“Good job, a clean kill too. Good job, Alex,” Samson said, patting his son’s shoulder on a good clean kill on the elk and was proud of the first hunt.
“Now come on, let’s do this fast,” He added, handing his son a hunting knife for the next part.
Alex took the knife and began to stab the elk’s chest to open it up to get the heart. A part of the family tradition is that for your first kill, you take a good bite out of the heart and get your claim. That sight was making Adrian sick and looked away.
“I’m going to be sick,” Adrian said, holding back whatever remained of breakfast.
“Hehe-Ha! Don’t go green on me. If puke, do it away from the kill,” Samson advised and Adrian quickly did that, getting a good laugh from Jimmy.
“Couldn’t handle it,” Jimmy shook his head with a smirk.
Alex took a bite of the heart, tasting a bit bitter and odd but just suck it up and was glad to make his dad proud of his first hunt. Samson patted his youngest son’s shoulder for a good job and got his first kill.
“Good, very good. Eat up, elk’s heart is a good breakfast. I remember how my father did that but back then it was wild and your grandfather was a crazy fellow,” Samson smirked, glad that his youngest son complet his first hunt and can enjoy these hunts with his boys more than he ever did with his father.
“You don’t mention much of grandfather, pops,” Cole stated.
“Another time, I’ll tell ya why I don’t,” Samson said with a small frown but changed that up as Alex finished up and used the snow to remove the blood off his gloves & mouth.
“That…didn’t taste so bad,” Alex admitted as he got up from his knees.
“Yeah, at first. I still don’t understand how you and Cole can handle it,” Adrian said with a frown, getting back from throwing up.
“They got strong stomachs, Adrian,” Jimmy said before a scent caught his nose and surprised him to reach for his shotgun to be on guard to others’ surprise.
“What’s wrong?” Cole asked, grabbing his rifle.
Alex was quiet and looked around too.
“What’s wrong, Jimmy?” Samson asked, keeping his guard up and having a good idea of what was wrong.
“I…I thought I smelled something off,” Jimmy admitted, unsure of what happened for a second.
“We need to get this elk loaded up and back to the cabin. A fresh kill can draw any predators out there,” Samson ordered, having his sons and their friend get the stuff out to load up the elk on the sled for a hike back to the cabin.
The elder hunter had his few share of coming across predators out in the wild and knows that fresh kill can draw out one pretty quickly.
“Once we make it back to the cabin, I’ll will-AH!” Samson tried to say before shouting in pain and bringing panic to everyone when a mountain lion jumped him to bite his shoulder.
“DAD!” Adrian and Cole shouted as they rushed to their father’s aid.
Samson was able to smack the mountain lion right in the eyes with his rifle, causing it to growl and land on the ground on its feet. Acting quickly, both Alex and Jimmy aimed their respective hunting guns to open fire at the mountain lion. Alex’s rifle was aimed downwards to the hip close to the heart of the mountain lion. While Jimmy’s shotgun hit the chest and hit the lungs. Both shots were meant to kill and the cougar dropped dead before the group.
“Dad you are okay?” Alex asked, rushing to see if his father was okay and saw his brothers were helping him up but he regained himself.
“Yeah…I’m okay. Takes more than some pussycat of the hills to jump me. Good shot. Is it dead Jimmy?” Samson asked with a tried breath and was able to get on his feet, lucky the bite was just through his winter coat and not towards the flesh.
“Oh yeah. He’s dead sir,” Jimmy stated after checking to make sure the mountain lion was dead and it looked like they were taking two trophies home.
“Good. A wounded animal is a serious matter and when shooting, you shoot to kill. If that mountain lion had gotten away, it would have been driven by hunger and pain to start attacking people for food. Though this one must have been protecting his territory and must have gotten mad when we entered his area,” Samson stated, seeing the signs of why the mountain lion attacked from his hunting trips.
“Well looks like we are taking two trophies home,” Adrian remarked.
“So it seems. Let’s hike back to the cabin boys. I think that’s enough for one and a good hunting trip,” Samson informed, patting Alex and Jimmy on their shoulders for doing a good job much to Adrian’s jealousy.
Cole nodded his head and shook Alex’s hand for doing a good job on his first hunting trip.
Alex and Jimmy loaded up the mountain lion with elk on the sled while talking to each other while Samson, Adrian, & Cole took the lead.
“Well I can say this would be an interesting story to tell people back home,” Jimmy admitted.
“Agree. I never thought my first hunting trip would have a mountain lion trying to attack Dad like that,” Alex said, being a little shaken bit but recovered and kept pulling the sled with his friend.
“True. Though…I can’t help but shake this old feeling about what happened before the mountain lion attacked us,” Jimmy said, recalling how he smelled a strange scent hitting his nose right before the attack.
“Same but maybe we will figure it out once we go home tomorrow,” Alex said, getting a nod from his friend.
“Agree, maybe it’s nothing,” Jimmy agreed as the pair kept pulling the sled and catching up with the others.
Unknown to the group, the same raven from earlier was watching them but mainly the red-haired teen with its yellow eyes in wonder and something else before flying away for the time being.

Chapter 5: Terror of the Night

Winters Cabin
At the cabin, we see after some pictures, that the elk & mountain lion were hanging yet it was skinned. In the rooms, Alex, Cole, and Jimmy were sleeping peacefully as night came in on them but something was off and Adrian was missing. His winter gear and hunting rifle were taken along with a hunting knife taken off the table. Something was wrong and the trio was going to discover that very soon when Samson walked in, switching the light switch on to wake up the trio.
“Dad…what’s wrong?” Cole asked, seeing how his father was geared up and had an upset look on his face.
“Gather up your gear and carry what you can carry, very light but warm for this cold. Adrian has run off for a hunt…that idiot,” Samson frowned in reply.
That brought alarms and concern for Cole, worried about his little brother and knowing it was dangerous to hunt during the night.
“Huh? What’s up?” Alex asked, rising from his sleep.
“What time is it?” Jimmy groaned, rubbing his eyes.
“12:30, wake you lazy boneheads. Adrian is missing,” Samson informed, getting the trio out of their beds and rushing to gather up their winter gear to their guns for hunting.
The trio soon followed Samson out of the cabin after getting their winter gear back on and rifles on their backs while a lantern to a flashlight in their hands for the time being. The four followed what little tracks Adrian had left behind which must have been an hour or two ago as the tracks were nearly covered by the snow or wind. That brought more concern for the group as it would be hard to find their missing fellow hunter.
“(Sigh) It looks like the tracks end here. Hmm, there are two paths up ahead,” Samson said, stopping the walk and seeing how the tracks stopped here but saw two dirt roads up ahead and the wind stopped to allow a clear view of vision.
“Adrian could have gone either one,” Cole stated, looking around and saw no signs of his brother out there.
“What’s led those paths?” Jimmy asked.
“One heads to an old church and the other a stream that should be breaking up due to the spring. Adrian could have gone either one due to hunting whatever he’s trying to hunt,” Samson replied with a frown and brought his scarf off to cover his face back to warm up.
“Should we split up?” Alex asked.
“Yes. Cole and I would head to the stream. You and Jimmy go to the old church. The two paths should connect within a few miles, we will meet up if one of us finds Adrian,” Samson informed, knowing these lands better than anyone ever since he was a teen into the grown man he is today.
Alex nodded his head and walked with Jimmy towards the right path while Samson & Cole to the left road that goes to the stream.
“Alex, Jimmy, be careful,” Samson said, not wanting to endanger any more people during hunting trips and would have a good talk with Adrian about that when they find him.
The pair nodded their head and kept walking through the snow before onto the dirt road toward the woods with some stone walls ahead of them. They were quiet and kept their guard up as there was no idea what kind of predators hunted during the night. They saw no birds such as ravens or crows in the trees, being a good sign. Some birds have a symbiotic relationship with certain animals and wolves have one with ravens to share meals at times.
“What’s the story on the old church?” Jimmy asked.
“Hard to say but Dad told me that back in the day, some people tried to make a town here when the first Winters claim their land here. Then a harsh winter storm came and trapped the people at the old church, slowly dying from cold weather, some animals, and so on. However, no bodies were reported found, and been a mystery ever since,” Alex replied, remembering that tale that his father had told him when hiking up that route and seeing the remains of a building for faith to hope but was destroyed by the elements as the years has gone by.
That brought some dread and concern for the pair as they slowly walked on the dirt road before sliding down the hill to see the old stone walls of buildings still there. They were old as the lands and remains of the church head of the pair, seeing a good quarter of the place remains to their surprise. Alex brought up his purple scarf to cover his face and blocked the cold winds that suddenly came in. Jimmy did the same with his fur coat and kept walking with his friend while using their flashlight to see any signs of Adrian had come here.
Alex and Jimmy went through a gate, making some loud noise due to the iron bars being rusted to worn out to nearly falling over. They walked into the quarter remains of the church that covered a good spot for cover yet still out in the elements and soon saw a book nearby.
Alex walked over to the book while Jimmy searched for any tracks on the ground to find any traces of Adrian. The red-haired teen frowned as he opened the book and saw how new it was but the writing wasn’t his brother’s style and someone else.
“We have set up camp here at this church and would document it for history. It’s rather a mystery what happened here, strange times. I am thankful to Mr Winters for allowing us to walk on his land for a few days and camp at this old church. One of my friends heard some weird noises but it might have been nothing after a good awhile of no noises and only birds flying around,” The first entry that Alex read out loud.
“Document History? Does your old man know about this?” Jimmy asked.
“He might have but they might have left without informing Dad or something happened to them,” Alex replied before going over the next entry of the book.
“Winter is coming to an end with spring around the door and would help with studying during our stay here at Winters Area. My friends and I are excited about documenting the old church area to the wildlife but still, those noises I heard last night brought great concern. Wolves are out there but they sound so different. So angry. So hungry. I hope we get to leave soon,” The second entry said, bringing more concern for Alex.
Jimmy frowned as he looked around and saw how some equipment was left behind by those hikers it seems. He saw a few tents set up, a campfire that was still warm, and a few items for traveling. He raised an eyebrow and wondered what happened here.
“These document hikers have camped there but something’s off,” Jimmy pointed out, getting Alex’s attention and placing the book in his bag for the time being.
“Yeah…where’s everybody?” Alex asked, looking around for any signs of the hikers around or where they went too as it was very odd to leave your camping equipment in the middle of the night.
Jimmy and Alex shared a look before starting to look around the camp site which showed more up close. Some of the tents showed tears, not by the winds but with something with claws and fangs. A few pawprints but was hard to figure out which was which due to signs of a wild struggling was happening and small amounts of dry blood on the ground. The rotten smell was barely there due to the wind must have pushed that away and the smoke from the campfire was still going. A tree or two had claw marks and one of them had a bullet hole from a shotgun that must have missed one who attacked them. A wild struggle happened here and a few clues on what pops up.
“A pack of wolves…a few hours ago it seems,” Jimmy said, taking a knee and taking a piece of black yet silver fur off from a stick brush out of the ground.
The blonde-haired teen sniffed and this time was able to know what he was smelling now. Whoever those wolves are, they are covered in blood and none match Adrian’s. That was a good thing yet brought more worried.
“Three men and one woman were here for documents. The pack of wolves must have gotten mad and attacked the hikers, scaring them off. One of them tried to use a shotgun to shoot at the wolves but missed and got attacked to only be dragged off somewhere in the woods. This is odd for a pack’s behavior,” Alex frowned, looking around to see if any bodies were found but found none and then brought something out of his bag, a small radio.
His dad said no cellphones but knows that any hiking or hunting can have something happening so radios were needed.
“Fox, this is Hyena,” Alex spoke on the radio, using callsigns.
“(Sigh), I thought we agreed to not use callsigns, Alex,” Cole said over the radio.
“Hehe, nope! Is Black Lion by you?” Alex asked after a small laugh.
A brief pause was heard until Samson spoke, “Black Lion here, what do you two got?”
Jimmy walked over to Alex to listren and speak when needed but allowed his friend to explain what they discovered.
“We found a campsite of hikers, document crew on the old church,” Alex informed.
“Oh, the hikers? What happened to them?” Samson asked as he hadn’t heard from them for a few days now.
“Wolves, a pack of them has attacked the camp. No bodies were found. Still no signs of Adrian on our end,” Alex replied, getting a small pause from his dad and brother to know they were surprised by this.
“Damn… listen here Alex, Jimmy. I want you two to meet us at the stream by the small lake. We will regroup…wait,” Samson tried to say but something happend and caused the radio to buzz out to the pair’s surprise.
Alex tried to get the right signal but was getting a buzzing sound and no signal to his surprise.
“Don’t mess with it. Save the batteries,” Jimmy said, making a good point, and got a node from his friend.
“Right. I’ll try to reach them when we get close to the river,” Alex said, taking out his hunting rifle as he placed the radio back in his bag.
Jimmy nodded his head and took his shotgun out, loading up a good number of shells, and had a feeling that tonight was going to be a wild night.
Then all of a sudden, a powerful whistle blew outwards, a strange whistling sound echoed around the area and had this haunting tone to it that surprised the pair. Jimmy hissed in pain as he held his right ear in pain and grunted once the whistle had stopped. He had sharp hearing but that caused this dread feeling and something was wrong here.
“What the hell was that?” Alex asked, gripping his rifle, and looked around, not knowing that kind of whistle sound nor heard it before.
Then black feathered birds shouted and flew out of the trees to the pair’s surprise much more when a howling sound was heard, causing the pair to tightly grip their guns and back to back. They aimed their respective guns and turned on their headlights in their snow hats to shin through the pitch blackness ahead of the woods.
Alex’s flashlight shone at one of the wolves and became surprised to even stunned in fear by seeing the wolf before his eyes. It was a large wolf covered in black fur that was thick for the winter yet was different and had a build that could rival that of a normal-sized bear. Those red eyes shinned through the night and stared at the red-haired teen. The red eyes shone with pure rage and hunger towards the prey in the old church area.
Jimmy soon saw the same wolf as Alex on his end but different who was larger and had blood covered from its jaw to drip onto the ground. That large wolf was bigger than the one on his friend’s side and had these grey-silver colored eyes blazing with great fury to attack everyone.
A great terror of the night had struck the pair and more to come. Men won’t not the predators in the woods of Alaska but these wolves are different from their normal cousins. It was going to be a long night for the teens.
Chapter 6: The Adlet Showdown
Chapter Text
The woods in Alaska that were once quiet during this night were full of gunshots, howling, growling, and so on to cause deep terror in others to stay away from the wild cold woods. Alex and Jimmy were moving while staying back to back, shooting a few rounds of shells at the wild black wolves hunting them at night. They couldn't be sure they were hitting or damaging these black wolves but knew they were not normal.
The two large black wolves had been stacking the pair and sending normal-sized wolves after their prey. Those normal-sized wolves were either grey or black fur-covered and rushed at the pair but got shot to get nicked or killed by the hunters.
Alex breathed heavily and nervously while shaking a little, carefully loading up his rifle and looking around for any wolves coming at him or Jimmy. He was keeping his focus and calm down from this attack by the wolves while wondering who the hell are they. They are not normal but something different.
Jimmy grunted as he loaded up a few shells before shooting one wolf coming at him and hitting its heart to roll hard onto the ground dead. He frowned to point his shotgun at another one but missed who disappeared back into the woods and darkness.
The pair kept their back up against each other and kept their guns aimed up at the woods if one of those wolves or those big bastards rushed at them. Then something got their attention as they heard bone-cracking sounds to looked at the dead wolf to find a shocking discovery. The said wolf was no longer as it changed back to a man form before it slowly lost all will in his body.
"What the fuck?" Jimmy can only say in shock.
Alex was quiet and suddenly remembered one of those old stories his father had told him years ago. It was slowly starting to make sense now on some of the survivors of the old church and hikers disappearance.
"Adlet...," Alex said out loud, remembering that tale from his father that came from Inuit mythology.
"The what?" Jimmy questioned, never heard that name before.
"An Adlet is a bloodthirsty creature from the Inuit mythology and came from Greenland to Baffin Island. These creatures are the results of a union between an Inuit woman and a giant dog," Alex started as he loaded up more bullets and kept looking around for any more wolves or the big ones that were stacking them.
"Jeeze...so basically a werewolf?" Jimmy asked, taking this information in.
"In a way yes but they are something like a second or third cousin to the Werewolf, Skinwalker, and Black Hound. It makes sense now. The disappearance of the old church's people and the hikers to that strange whistle we heard caused them to appear to attack us. Some of the people that went missing must have gotten bitten by those big Adlets and changed into them but...lesser ones," Alex finished in his explanation before shooting a black wolf not so far away from them and hitting the neck to drop dead to change back into its human form.
"Hmm, how do you know of this?" Jimmy asked.
"Dad told me stories like that when growing up and it connected when we saw the size of those two wolves earlier to how they command the smaller ones. And how they change back to their human form when dead," Alex replied.
The pair soon found themselves exiting out fo the grounds of the old church and the growls to snarls were become less hard now. Their backs were up against each other and slowly moved in a circle motion to make sure nothing jumps on them.
"Sounds like fun bedtime stories," Jimmy commented.
"Most but mom and Cole never liked them. Adrian believed those stories and...I'm worried about him," Alex said, having this dread and worried feeling for his brother who's out there alone to himself to god knows what else is out there.
"We will find Adrian, Alex," Jimmy assured his friend and calmed down his worries as the pair kept walking through the woods.
However, the pair had no idea where they were out due to the confusion and attack from the Adlet to escape the old church area. They saw thick trees and branches that their headlights shined on but no clear idea of where they were located. They frowned yet kept walking to find the river stream. It was hard to tell where they went to or where to find the river stream but kept an ear open for the sound of the stream.
Unknown to the pair, one of the big black Adlets was stalking them very slowly and quietly, using the night as a cloak and waiting to strike when the pair broke formation.
Soon enough, Alex and Jimmy found themself at a small frozen lake down below from their position on a cliff side. They looked around for a stream that connected to this lake but had no luck and frowned.
"Hmm wanna try that radio again?" Jimmy asked.
"I'll give a it shot," Alex said, getting the radio out and trying to get a signal again but got a buzzing sound and frowned with a sigh in annoyance at this bad luck.
"Damn it," He frowned, putting the radio back.
"It was worth a try. There's a tight gap over there, let's see where that leads," The blonde-haired teen said, seeing a a good gap for the pair to walk through and could leave this area.
The pair were no longer back to back and walked just close to the edge towards the tight cliff gap up ahead. This was a big mistake on their part as a loud growl was heard and surprised them but couldn't react on time as the black Adlet rushed towards them to pounce onto one of them.
Alex shouted in surprise and pain as the Adlet jumped him, pushing him down to the open area of the frozen lake area.
"ALEX!" Jimmy shouted in pure shock and worry, bringing his shotgun out but couldn't get a clear shot and ran to find a way down to the lake down below.
The red-haired grunted as his back landed on the ice hard, causing cracks to form. He then used his rifle up and blocked those strong jaws of the Adlet from biting him. The black wolf was stronger and heavier to use his body weight while snapping his jaws at his prey beneath him. The teen kept struggling to use his hunting rifle but was getting damaged by those strong fangs to tore him apart.
The Adlet snapped that rifle out of the hunter's hands and threw it, sliding across the ice and eyes burning with fury to end the life of the hunter before him.
Alex closed his eyes to not see the pain coming but opened it when he didn't feel anything and soon became surprised when a raven bird used its talons to claw one of the eyes out of the Adlet. The wolf howled in pain at having his right eye clawed out by those sharp talons and growled at the hunter before him, going to end him and calm down this anger to hunger for flesh.
Adlet jumped back onto Alex, biting his arm to cause a painful scream in pain and suddenly something happened. His whole right arm was covered in pure purple energy that acted like self-armor and sent out this powerful wave of energy outwards that sent the wolf backward.
Alex blinked in surprise and looked at his right arm covered in pure purple energy yet was a different tone. The said energy was vibrating to stabilize itself around the arm and formed some demonic-looking claws for the teen.
Adlet howled and rushed at his prey, causing Alex to look back up and see something on the ice at the lake. It was close to breaking apart from the weight and something told him to use this strange power to defend himself. He clenched his hand into a fist and slammed his fist into the ice, causing the frozen lake to break apart around the wolf, and was trapped in the ice-cold water.
The black-furred Adlet tried to attack and dragged the teen into the waters with him but the red-haired teen acted quickly and used his legs to kick himself away from the mad wolf. He kept kicking himself away from the wolf and ice that was breaking apart, breathing heavily when on the ground and rolling onto his back to catch his breath.
"Alex!" Jimmy shouted, rushing over to Alex and taking a knee by him, getting his attention.
"You okay?" He asked his friend with concern.
"Yeah...yeah, I'm okay," Alex breathed, catching his breath, and looked at his right arm to see the purple energy was leaving itself back into his body.
"What the hell just happened?"
"I don't know, Jimmy. I don't know."
A lot of questions yet one simple answer was in front of them and the night wasn't over it.
