Kidnapped

Summary:

Viktor Reznov wakes up to see that Dimitri Petrenko is missing and goes to look for him, as they do, Chernov notices that something is very wrong…

Work Text:

Viktor Reznov had just woken up from his sleep in the train; he gets a cold, empty feeling in his arms when he notices that his best friend, Dimitri Petrenko, isn’t there anymore. The two had decided to fall asleep close to one another that night due to the cold, but now Dimitri isn’t here anymore and it was beginning to freak Viktor out.

The sergeant looks around and sees Chernov just waking up himself. Viktor tip-toes around his fellow sleeping Russians and over to Chernov. He gets on one knee and whispers:

“Hey! Chernov! Where is Dimitri?”

With a sleepy face, the young private looks up at sergeant Reznov, and with a confused expression, he replies: “huh..? What do you mean? I thought he was with you??”

“Yeah well now he isn’t; do you know where he is?”

“No.. No sergeant, I do not.”

“Oh fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck- EVERYBODY WAKE UP!!!”

Viktor makes as much noise and watches as everyone wakes up, trying to spot Dimitri in the crowd of men, only to not find him. Making Viktor Reznov look panic even more.

As Viktor panicked and began to walk in circles, people began to wake up fully and ask what was going on. Chernov filled them in on Dimitri Petrenko being missing and they all began to panic too. Dragovich and Kravchenko though seem oddly calm… Chernov notices but doesn’t do anything as the two are currently staring him down.

“Comrades! Dimitri Ptrenko is missing! Does anybody have any idea of where he went!?”

A few men pipe up; all of them saying something along the lines of: “I don’t know” or- “I’m not sure”. Viktor sighs and immediately goes back to worrying. Dragovich gets up and puts his hands on Viktors shoulders in an attempt to calm him as he suggests, “Perhaps Private Petrenko is just using the bathroom, there is no need to worry sergeant.” Viktor Reznov flinches at the general's touch and pushes him off. “DO NOT TOUCH ME! …I don't think he is in the bathroom… because one, where would he even go? And two, he would’ve come out when he heard everyone being noisy!”

The other men nod and agree with Reznov, meanwhile Kravchenko stands silently, staring out at the men. Chernov specifically is keeping his eyes on Dragovich and Kravchenko; something just felt wrong… so wrong.. about all of this. Something just felt off. Shouldn’t Dragovich and Kravchenko as the general and corporal be more concerned and/or worried about one of their soldiers disappearing out of thin air? It seemed to Chernov that the two didn’t really care about the whereabouts of the missing private.

“Somebody stop the train!!!” Dragovich sighs and puts his face in his palm as the worried sergeant waves towards the conductor. The conductor aees his worried face and stops; seeing him hop off with his gun he asks what’s going on, to which Chernov again has to explain that Dimitri is missing and that they are going to go find him now. The conductor simply obliges as a team goes to find Dimitri, while the rest of the division stays behind to load up on supplies and food.

They had been running and walking on and off for a while. The men were tired and told Reznov so, to which Viktor Reznov would just reply that he didn’t care and that they couldn’t waste any time. That if they wasted even a second on anything Dimitri could die. The men simply just groaned and kept going as much as they could.

Along a path Viktor Reznov finds a German laughing and eating with his fellow soldier. Anger flashes in Reznov's eyes as he pins the soldier to the ground. Chernov and another soldier hold back the other man.

“WHERE IS DIMITRI!?”

“Wha- huh!?”

“WHERE IS MY COMRADE DIMITRI!? TELL ME. NOW! TELL ME RIGHT NOW OR YOU WILL HE DEAD.”

The German man sputtered and stuttered as he replied, “I-I- I-I-I’m not sure! He is Russian I’m assuming? O-our comrades were taking a Soviet soldier to a shed in seelow heights! Y-you could see if your friend is there..! P-please let go of me..!?”

Viktor Reznov slowly gets up and nods. He shoots both Germans in the head, “TO SEELOW HEIGHTS COMRADES!!!” And just like that, the Russian men continue their mission to seelow heights to retrieve and rescue Dimitri Petrenko.

Making it to Seelow heights, Reznov scans the area until his eyes land on one small house-like building. He gestures for Chernov to come over, “Chernov, come here… and bring a C4…” Chernov does as commanded and Viktor plants the C4 onto the wall and the two men back up, and with the click of a button, the wall blows up. Killing the Germans inside.

Walking inside the small building Reznov looks around, “Dimitri?” His eyes fall on a familiar body on the ground… “Dimitri, is that you!?” Viktor smiles and chuckles as he helps Dimitri up. “Once again, you cheat death! …Chernov! I am not hearing gunshots!”

“There is no point sergeant.. they’re already bleeding to death…”

“Well maybe our friend here will make them die faster…” He hands Dimitri a gun and runs out with Chernov and Dimitri in tow.

While fighting out of seelow heights, Chernov noticed that Sergeant Reznov was having a particularly hard time compared to everyone else… and also, General Dragovich and Corporal Kravchenko were nowhere to be found despite literally having come with them.

Chernov also took a moment to notice that the German soldiers seemed to be aiming at Reznov and Dimitri specifically… Some were aiming and shooting at Chernov himself and the other soldiers in their team, but their primary focus seemed to be one Viktor Reznov and Dimitri Petrenko…

Chernov took a mental note of it all and continued fighting…

They catch up to the train which was at another station; Viktor immediately goes to sit Dimitri down, asking him question after question like if he needed anything. Like say food, water, or a medic. Dimitri laughed and insisted that he didn’t need anything, but then his stomach growled and he relented, letting Reznov go get him some food.

As Viktor is searching through the crate of food for something Dimitri might like, Chernov hopped on. “Sergeant Reznov… may I speak with you for a moment..?”

“Sure Chernov! Shoot for it! Hahaha!” He seemed pretty giddy now that Dimitri was back, Chernov felt bad for how he was about to ruin his mood…

“While we were fighting out of seelow heights.. I.. uhm… I noticed that the German soldiers were paying extra attention to you..” Viktor Reznov turned around, “What? Chernov- what do you mean ‘extra attention’?”

“Like- you were their primary focus. They hardly shot at anyone else besides you and Dimitri. Didn’t you think that was a bit.. weird?”

“Hm… I suppose so, why are you asking me this?”

“This morning while you were panicking about Dimitri being missing… I noticed that Dragovich and Kravchenko were oddly calm about the situation… I thought they would be a bit more worried since Dimitri basically disappeared into thin air, but no.” Viktor nodded with a concerned look on his face as Chernov continued to speak… “And then when we were fighting through Seelow I noticed that Dragovich and Kravchenko weren’t anywhere to be found.”

“But they came with us, didn’t they?”

“Yes! Exactly! I…” he sighs, “I think something is up. They were way too calm this morning and they were nowhere to be found on our way back from saving Dimitri. And when we finally DID see them, they looked disappointed to see that you and Dimitri were alive and well.”

Viktor made a face and lowered his voice as he asked: “Chernov… are you saying that… Dragovich and Kravchenko set this all up..?”

“Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.”

“Oh lord…” Viktor looks at the floor and sighs, he then looks back up at Chernov with a saddened expression. “I can’t say I’m surprised… they’ve always hated me.. I’m not too sure why though. I mean- I don’t like them either- but I wouldn’t go as far as to kill them for no reason! I wonder why they’re doing this…”

“Me too… I- I could try to get more information but it’s gonna be complicated; I suggest you check on Dimitri. I imagine that whole situation was very stressful for him…”

“Da.. that’s what I plan to do. And thank you, private. You do that for me.”

“Yes sir sergeant Reznov; I will do my best to gather as much information as I can!”

“Good. In the meantime, I will keep an extra eye on Dimitri…”

Viktor goes back to Dimitri with the food and smiles as Dimitri happily eats; he chuckles and pats his back. Meanwhile Chernov looks on from the train car, smiling. But his smile quickly fades when he sees Dragovich and Kravchenko walk up to the two. He watches Reznov's facial expression turn to one of suspicion and anger. Chernov is doing to go try and get them away from the two men sitting down, but then Viktor Reznov gets up and swings for Dragoviches face, punching him square in the jaw. This startles the other men around them, Dimitri included. But it doesn’t take long for Dimitri to join in after Kravchenko tries to yank him off of Dragovich.

“YOU TRAITOR! YOU SENT THE GERMANS AFTER DIMITRI, YOU WANTED ME AND HIM DEAD!” Reznov yells as he punches dragovich repeatedly in the face, “YOU- OW!- YOU ARE A PSYCHOPATH!” Dragovich yells in return.

“Ohhhh no…!” Chernov runs over and many others get involved as well in an attempt to separate the four men. When separated, everyone calms down, though there is still tension. Viktor and Dimitri are sitting together in the train car, Viktor holding Dimitri tightly.

“I thought I lost you for a second… for a moment I thought you were dead when I found out you were missing…”

“Well I am here now am I not?” Dimitri gives a reassuring smile and lays his head on Viktors shoulder; Viktor chuckles and holds him tighter.

“Let's take a nap.. yes?”

“Sure! Lord knows we need it.”
