Summary:

Fear is a powerful emotion. It makes people do a lot of things they wouldn't normally do. Fear makes people freeze up, fear makes people come together.

Fear is a lot like love in that way.

For Ribbun Week 2024!!!

Chapter 1: Part One

Chapter Text

"AAAAGH!" With a scream of pain Ragatha goes tumbling past the quivering, frozen Gangle, hitting... well, something with a loud, painful thud upon being hit with the current enemy dragon's tail rendering her out of commission along side most of the others. The poor scarf-clad witch let out a pitiful sob at the sound that was so much louder when it bounced through her skull. Gangle was stuck in the fetal position as she resigned to her fate unable to pick up her feather pen and useless against the aggravated reptile ready to sear her alive.

She was going to die here.

She was absolutely, positively SURE she was going to die...

And then she was pushed aside by a mass of pink and purple. A mass that was now shaking in pain and chanting some incantation from his spell book.

Gangle couldn't help but stare as Jax, determined and barely affected by the burn that made his skin bubble, sent golden thread to wrap around the dragon's scales, digging in between the cravices of it's skin and making it roar in pain and eventually burst into EXP and resources. "Heyyy... looks like the dragon dropped some loot! Don't mind if I do~" The rabbit took most of the winnings but there was nobody to stop him so what they don't know can't hurt them.

Jax and Gangle briefly locked gazes. "Welp, you'd better pick up the others with those big, strong ribbon arms! I'm going back to Hubtown." And with that he tucked his grimoire under his pits and walked off without giving Gangle much of a window to say much of anything. She just gathered the others and used a beast to bring them back to Hubtown too.

Chapter 2: Part Two

Chapter Text

Jax eagerly gulped down the nasty tasting painkilling potion, really just focused on the high it'd give him when he saw Gangle peeking through his door. Jax quickly tossed the potion aside even though it was a tad too late. "What do you want, Crybaby? Kinda busy here..." The sly rabbit's left foot was tapping onto the floor impatiently as Gangle timidly slipped into his room.

"Um, I just wanted to thank you... for saving me." Gangle quietly said. Jax's eyes widened a tad before he remembered to mute himself. "Come again?" Gangle fumbled with her scarf. "I said, thank you for saving me! I... I really appreciate it." Jax's cheeks dusted red as he grabbed his cap. "Jeez... don't get so sentimental on me, Ribbons." He said uncharacteristically quiet before taking a swig of a different potion as he avoided her gaze. "I don't do that mushy crap." He added ever so slightly clumsily.

It was about then when the room got uncomfortably quiet and the atmosphere got... weird.

Gangle spoke up. "Are you... bleeding?" Jax looked down at his leg. He was bleeding. "Huh... I didn't even notice." Gangle frowned, walking up and putting a bandage over the injury. "I'm... I'm sorry for being so pathetic. It's my fault you're injuried, isn't it?" He chugged the rest of it down. "Yep. Pretty much." Jax said without much thought, shutting down any further attempted comfort. "Right..."

Gangle stood there... awkwardly. Jax pulled out another potion, this one was a calm sky blue. "Wait, are those... are those Zooble's potions?!" Jax froze at the question and quickly put his hand over her mouth. "Shhhh! Shh! Not so loud, toots! You're gonna get me sent to the dungeon... again." He scolded before gulping down the sky blue liquid and feeling a little sedated. "Haa... that's the stuff..."

"A sedative? Jax, you can't stea-" Gangle squeaked out but Jax shut her up... with a kiss. That potion must've really loosened him up because the kiss was just a little too gentle. It didn't scream Jax. He pulled her in by the scarf for a little longer than necessary before pulling back. "You won't tell Caine, will you?" Gangle shook her head. "Good. Now go away." Gangle stumbled off, her mask tainted red as she ran out of his room.

It was only then that Jax realized what he had done. "Oh my God, I just kissed that loser..."

He couldn't even be that mad about it.
