Chapter Text
It’s disaster.
No, it’s more likely a near-death experience.
Yoongi hates almost every kind of sport, especially running, moreover when he has to run through the crowd of people during dinner time, but he has to do it for life. Yoongi doesn’t even have his dinner and his feet feel like they almost fell off when he finally reaches the office.
Yes, Yoongi is running with an empty stomach to come back to the place where he was eager to leave a couple hours ago.
And yes, it’s a completely near-death experience when he finds out what he’s been scared of is really happening, and to make it worse, Yoongi is even seeing the grim reaper right there, on his desk, waiting for a chance to bring Yoongi straight into hell.
“Fuck,” Yoongi curses softly under his pant breath.
“Oh, hello, sir — Min Yoongi?”
Yoongi’s heart skips a beat, but he manages to nod after controlling his breath. “Yes, sir.” He is even answering in a steady polite tone. He maybe has such a hidden skill he never knew until now. “Good evening, sir. Park Jimin.”
That’s his boss, like — a big boss, Yoongi can’t curse at him even if he wants to. At least not for now. At least not when Jimin sits on his desk, with Yoongi sure — that he recklessly left his computer on, and the paper which now is on Jimin’s hand.
“Did you forget something, Yoongi ssi?” Jimin asks him while waving the paper. “I think you should be home at this hour. Don’t you feel hungry?” He looks at his expensive watch that only God knows the price of.
That’s not a question.
Yoongi takes a deep breath before taking a step toward his desk while grabbing on his sling bag like it’s his lifeline. “Sir, I — I can explain.”
Jimin tilts his head and reads the paper, completely ignoring how pale Yoongi’s face is after putting all of the courage to get closer to him. “What makes you think that this company is better than here, Yoongi ssi? Can’t you just judge it by its name? What? Beautiful Life Company? Who the hell gives their company such a kind of name?”
Their company is called Heaven on Earth, and Yoongi thinks that’s not exactly a wise choice either. Jimin doesn’t actually have a right to critique another company’s name like that, but again Jimin is a boss here and his father was definitely who named the company, and what Jimin read before is his application letter.
Yes, like Yoongi left his computer on with all of the details of his portofolio isn’t worst enough, it turns out that Yoongi also left his application letter ready on the table, and the worst of all, everything was found by Jimin, the one who shouldn’t, because Jimin is his boss and Yoongi kinda hates him.
Who doesn’t hate their bosses, anyway?
In Yoongi’s case, he hates his boss so much, especially the one in front of him.
Yoongi swallows heavily because the situation is never on his side. He can’t debate the company’s name or how Jimin can sit there as his boss when he is actually younger than him, and Yoongi is pretty sure that he’s exactly way smarter than Jimin, so instead of bursting in anger or accusing his boss for breaking his privacy, Yoongi choose to apologize.
Also, it’s better for him to have everything sorted out real quick because his stomach starts to growling and he really needs to wash his hair.
“I’m sorry, sir. I’m really sorry.”
Jimin stares at Yoongi and when Yoongi thinks if a simple apology will do, Yoongi is completely wrong. Instead of just accepting the apology and moving on, Jimin asks Yoongi another question that makes Yoongi wish he has more saliva inside his mouth so his throat won’t be this dry like he didn’t drink for a day.
“An apology. What for, Yoongi ssi?”
“Oh?”
“What are you actually apologizing for, Yoongi ssi?”
Jimin demands an explanation. Yoongi should remember how every boss usually acts. They act like jerks, especially when your boss is a fucking silver spoon.
Yoongi licks his lips. He should stay calm, because in a moment like this, Jimin is a predator and Yoongi can only lean to his stable breath so Jimin won’t put his nails further into his back. Okay, Min Yoongi Inhale, exhale. “I’m sorry for not turning off my computer after working hours and for leaving my table messy, sir. I promise it won't happen again.”
There’s a short silence which feels like forever for Yoongi who gets a headache in an empty stomach. Yoongi is trying his best to stay calm by not avoiding any eye contact with Jimin, so that his boss will believe him. Please.
“Really? Yoongi ssi.” Jimin gets up from Yoongi’s chair and walks closer to where Yoongi has been standing for a while.
Yoongi knows that’s not the answer Jimin wants since his boss saw everything already, but Yoongi can’t really afford a chance to lose both of his jobs, not when moving to his new job is still on the planning. He can’t buy his cat’s food with no job.
“Yes, sir. I apologize for my mistake.”
“Yoongi ssi.” Jimin sounds so cold now they are facing each other. Yoongi can’t guess if Jimin is angry or getting frustrated from his answer, or maybe both, or more. “You were just leaving your portfolio and your application letter for other company for everyone to see,”
Well, that’s not what Yoongi intended to do. Maybe if Jimin didn’t get curious and act like another boss who doesn’t care about their employee’s life, this no need to happen and both of them will have a perfect peaceful night.
Shouldn’t rich people like Jimin usually have a pretty busy social life after work like he usually sees in the drama than an ordinary civilian like Yoongi?
“And you did everything using a company’s computer, especially,” Jimin takes a deep breath and Yoongi feels the cold on his toes. “You did everything while you were still working here, Min Yoongi and what? You apologize for just wasting out the electricity?”
And papers, to be exact, or a lot of instant coffee for his stressful moment.
Yoongi folds his lips. Of course he gets it that Jimin isn’t angry just because the bill Yoongi causes. It’s nothing compared with the heater in his office which automatically turns it into a tropical country in the middle of winter. Yoongi went there a couple times and he can definitely tell if Jimin never runs in the middle of thick snow without even a single jacket because his mom found his bad score sheet under the mattress.
Rich people.
“Yes, sir.” Yoongi mumbles quietly.
“I think that’s not the exact apology we are looking for here, Yoongi ssi.” Jimin crosses his arms while Yoongi’s application letter is still in his hands. Why is he so obsessed with that paper that has nothing to do with him?
Yoongi looks at Jimin while the man is looking back at him, waiting for Yoongi to finally have the guts to touch the real subject.
Yoongi takes a deep breath while remembering his cat. He has a white cat named Sugar, and fortunately Sugar has to eat a specific brand of cat food or she’ll get sick like once when Yoongi has to run to the vet in the middle of the night and that specific brand is more expensive than the others, hope it’s because it’s healthy and delicious as it looks, not because they are using BTS Suga as the brand ambassador.
Yoongi loves Sugar, so he can’t really let her not get her best food.
“You know, my father won’t be happy if he knows it.”
Jimin doesn’t even bother to hide about how he could get this job. Can’t he get interested in another field and not work here? Maybe somewhere far around the North Pole? And yeah, Yoongi knows how Mr. Park can get a little bit too hard.
“Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience that I cause here, sir.” Yoongi holds himself not to send the man a curse. “Is there anything I can do for you to — let all these things go? I promise it won’t happen again, sir.”
Jimin keeps staring at Yoongi before finally — finally puts the paper down. Yoongi is about to take a relieved breath thinking that Jimin is finally giving up, but guess Yoongi can’t really see if the real storm is coming at him.
“So you are willing to do anything, Yoongi ssi?”
Yoongi gasps. Does Jimin have a bad plan inside that head? He can’t let Jimin ask him for something bad. No, he can’t let Sugar live with Namjoon, because it will more likely let Sugar live in hell since she can’t get along with Namjoon’s plants and Namjoon will kick her out.
“Uhm, I’m pretty sure there’s a wise choice that will work for both of us, sir.”
Jimin smirks. “Okay,”
Yoongi is ready to learn how to put a spell on someone without really touching them after seeing the smirk. Jimin is a boss, and again, how the boss can become such a jerk, Yoongi doesn’t want to think if the smirk has anything to do with his fate. Well, Yoongi is someone who is taking care of his daily water intake, so maybe his kidney —
“Be my date, Yoongi ssi.”
“What the fuck,” Yoongi gets surprised for a second until he realizes that he is speaking it out loud instead of just cursing inside his head. “What,” He quickly closes his mouth with both of his hands before he curses again. “Sir?”
Yoongi’s heart is sliding down into his toe. Did he hear everything right?
What —
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, sorry. Do — do you have a boyfriend?” It’s Jimin’s turn to be surprised by his own words.
Yoongi almost choked at the question. “Yes, sir? Boyfriend?” Yoongi blinks. He keeps being surprised with what is just happening here in front of his eyes.
What the hell is actually happening?
“Uhm, no?” Yoongi doesn’t know why, but he is obediently replying. “What,”
“Oh God,” Jimin’s eyes are getting wide. “Are you, are you straight, Yoongi ssi?”
Yoongi still can’t understand why both of them are jumping into this conversation when they are just talking about the paper a minute ago. He is looking at Jimin, trying to see what exactly is his intention that has something to do with his sexual orientation, but all he can find is Jimin’s pale scared face like he is afraid of what he just asked.
It’s actually a rare sight coming from his boss — well, boss mostly isn't afraid of anything, but no matter how much Yoongi wants to enjoy himself seeing Jimin like this, he feels like it’s something serious that he can’t take this as a simple joke. Still, he also can’t wait to tell Namjoon about it tomorrow that he, Min Yoongi, just succeeded at making Jimin scared.
“Uhm, no, sir. I’m gay.”
Fuck it, if becomes a proud gay can cause him to be fired, then he will definitely drag Jimin with him. He never hides it from anyone though.
“So, you are gay and single.”
Why does it sound miserable coming from his boss’s mouth? Damn it.
“Yes, sir.” Yoongi nods.”Is there anything I can help you with about those facts, sir?” Yoongi laughs awkwardly, because what the fuck is Park Jimin wants from him? It’s just about his application letter, but why does it feel like it will threaten him more than what he expected?
“Fuck, thank you.” Jimin breathes a relieved sigh. “You know I’m gay too, right? Well, I mean I never really act like I’m not.”
“I figured, sir.” Yoongi doesn’t want to tell Jimin how he could know before Jimin can even tell him the truth. His boss just needs to learn about taking care of his privacy first by maybe next time, not kissing anyone in his office without closing the curtains because for God sake, his office is a clear aquarium without it. So, he should know by himself that he’s the star for a week because of that. Everyone knows instantly how gay he is.
And this gay man over here is just asking Yoongi to be his date. They can’t skip the part, especially that part. “Uhm, so?”
Jimin straightens his back. He quickly comes back to himself, to the part where Yoongi doesn’t like him. “I want you to be my date, Yoongi ssi.” Jimin repeats his earlier words, this time with so much confidence. He then points at Yoongi’s paper that he put down before with his finger. “We can forget about it if you help me, Min Yoongi. How about that?”
What answer does Jimin expect?
Yoongi wants everything that happened tonight to be forgotten, so that he can still feed Sugar her favorite food and buy her favorite toys, but is it the right way?
“I have a reunion this weekend.” Jimin explains as if he can read Yoongi’s confused face. “I don’t know why everyone insists on meeting again after a long time, it’s like we will forget how we look if we don’t meet again.” He rolls his eyes.
“That’s what reunion is for, sir.” Yoongi mumbles, thinking he does it silently but again, he is speaking too loud for Jimin to hear him clearly. “I’m sorry, sir. I mean, reunion can’t be a bad thing. It can be fun to see your friend again, don’t you think?”
Yoongi loves all of his friends and loves it more to spend time with them, even when Jungkook starts to strip out all of his clothes in the middle of the bar when he’s drunk.
“No, when anyone thinks they have the right to ask you about anything they want just because we are friends.” Jimin points out. “We aren’t even that close for them to ask about my love life,” Jimin folds his lips as if he regrets speaking those last words, but it’s too late though, Yoongi hears it.
“So, this is about your love life, sir.”
“You aren’t allowed to repeat those words, Yoongi ssi.” Jimin coughs, clearing his throat. “It’s about the reunion. I was supposed to come with a plus one and I don’t have anyone to come with me,” Jimin explains more. “And this is the win-win solution for us, don’t you think?”
One thing he should tell Namjoon next is Jimin, the almighty Jimin has his face blushed right in front of Yoongi and he can’t take a picture of it. Damn it.
The most important thing is, Yoongi can finally read what is going on here.
“Do I have to come as your only plus one, or — “ Jimin is about to open his mouth, maybe scolding Yoongi for cutting his words, and Yoongi is lifting both of his hands. “Sir, I just have to make sure that I understand the assignment here. If you need me to become more than just a friend, you should tell me.”
“I need you to become my boyfriend or fiance, or husband, I don’t care.” Jimin coughs again, and his face is getting redder than before. The fierce boss that Yoongi faces every day, who likes to show who he is, now looks like a teenager who has to face his crush.
Where does all the confidence go?
“Which one do you exactly want me to, sir?” Yoongi bites his lips. For Neptunes sake, does he have to admit if Yoongi starts to enjoy seeing Jimin like this and to tease Jimin back? It sounds dangerous but also fun. “I think we have to draw the line here, because being boyfriend, fiance, or husband will require a different situation.”
Jimin clears his throat before making eye contact again with Yoongi. “I need you to become my boyfriend just one night, Yoongi ssi.” Jimin clears the story. “You’re gonna help me and I’ll completely forget what happened last night between you and that stupid company. God, they need to learn how to name their company better.” He becomes Yoongi’s boss again, but less annoying, because this time he is the one who needs Yoongi’s help more.
Yoongi chews on his lower lips. Is it right to help his boss like this?
“I’ll also pay you, Yoongi ssi.” Jimin adds while Yoongi is still thinking about it. “I’ll pay you three months' salary. I’m sure that’s a good amount of money.”
That’s a damn good amount of money when Yoongi wants to buy a new bed for Sugar and for himself. It’s Jimin, but it’s money we are talking about here.
Damn, why does Jimin have to also talk about money? Because no matter how much he hates Jimin and still there’s a thought inside that this idea of faking a date is ridiculous, Yoongi still needs money, that’s why he sometimes takes an overtime here and wants to move to another company for a bigger salary. Damn capitalism.
“Will we meet someone I know there? I mean maybe someone from the company or anyone we had met in the meeting or else?” Yoongi dares himself to ask, even though the possibility of him having a mutual friend with Jimin is far from happening. “I mean if there’s someone I know, you should know that it’ll be harder to make them believe,”
“Why?”
“Because everyone knows that I don’t like you, sir. I mean — there’s always a love-hate relationship between boss and employee everywhere, please don’t be mad at me.” Yoongi laughs, this time he is genuinely laughing at the situation, because who knows if there will be a day where Yoongi can tell Jimin about it like he talks to his friend.
“I know.”
“Oh?”
Jimin shrugs calmly as if what Yoongi just said isn’t something big for him. “I also don’t like my father, so I think I know.”
Yoongi deadpans. “Well, it’s not actually like that, but — yeah, we can go as you want, sir. I just told you this, so you won’t expect more and maybe you can have another plan if it doesn’t work with me, sir. I mean I can help you, but — “
Jimin chews on his lower lips and Yoongi can’t help but to pay attention to his face. Jimin is actually good looking, with such soft white skin, bright eyes, and sexy lips.
You should stop yourself, Min Yoongi.
“So, you’re telling me that you’ll help me become my fake boyfriend even though you don’t like me.” Jimin resumes their conversation. He is crossing his arms now on his chest and Yoongi goes back to feel that he is talking to his boss.
“Well, I’m pretty sure I can act.” Yoongi grins.
Jimin shakes his head. “You know that I always do everything right. I hate it when I do something half heartedly. I want everything to be completely perfect. I’m sure that you are already aware of it, Yoongi ssi.” Jimin says in a familiar tone that sends Yoongi a chill.
“So,” Jimin pauses for a second. “Give me at least a day.”
“Yes?”
“Give me a chance to at least make you like me a little, so I can afford to make you at least smile, because we can’t appear as a perfect boyfriend if you don’t like me at all.”
“Oh? Sir, I mean —”
What —
Jimin lifts his palm as a sign that this conversation isn’t open for negotiation. “Okay, so we will start by picking you up in the morning, Yoongi ssi.” He smiles and takes Yoongi’s paper with him when Yoongi thinks the paper is already forgotten. “I’ll bring this with me as a deposit, so you can’t take everything back and we’ll see you tomorrow, Yoongi ssi.”
“What should I do, sir?”
“Just be pretty as always and wait for me home, Yoongi ssi.” Jimin smiles again and Yoongi almost choked at the word ‘pretty’ but he swallows it fast. Jimin taps his shoulder lightly before finally, finally walks past Yoongi and ends this conversation that feels like eternity. “I already turned off your computer and your printer, now I’m taking this evidence, it’s time to go home, or do you want me to drive you home?”
“No, sir. Thank you. I can walk home by myself.” Yoongi replies quicker than he intended to. and Jimin looks surprised. “I mean,”
“That’s what should change before you become Park Jimin’s boyfriend, Yoongi ssi.” Jimin smirks, shaking his finger, pointing at Yoongi. “See you tomorrow then.”
Yoongi nods slowly. “Yes, sir. Good evening.”
“Good evening, Yoongi ssi. Have a good one, and don’t forget to eat your dinner.”
Yoongi looks at Jimin’s back while he slowly disappears, leaving Yoongi alone in the dark with a super loud mind. Now he has another thing to tell Namjoon. One thing that feels like a Korean drama is that Park Jimin, their boss, is just asking him to become his fake boyfriend and Yoongi consciously accepts the offer.
Also, Jimin just called him pretty. Pretty, as always.
What the hell is just happening, and what the hell will happen?
