Work Text:
When Spot came back to his dorm after a long day of work he sighed, leaning his head against the back of the door. All of a sudden he heard his boyfriend, who did not notice Spot was home, let out a whimper before screaming,
“Why does it even matter to you?!”
Spot's heart sank. Not only was his boyfriend crying, but his boyfriend only used that tone with his parents. He didn't even use it when him and Spot fought, it was specifically for his parents. And if Race was talking with his parents then it wouldn't end well. Race wasn't even out to his parents. His parents were super homophobic. Race had moved away as far and as soon as he could.
Spot waited a second before he heard Race scream again,
“You cant rule my life! You never cared about anything to do with me growing up! Why are you starting now?!”
Spot walked towards the pairs bedroom, where the sound seemed to be coming from. Before Spot even made it out of the mudroom Race shouted for the third time,
“I love him, is that so much for you to comprehend?”
Oh fuck. That meant Race was out. Definitely going to end with someones head off its shoulders.
Spot couldn't help when he heard this, running into the bedroom. The door was closed and Spot opened it softly and peered inside. There was his boyfriend, phone glued to his ear, tears streaming down his face, and Spot could hear one of Race’s parents screaming at him through the other line. Spot opened the door a little more and when Race wordlessly looked up at him, desperation and worry in his eyes, Spot crossed the room, brought Race’s phone away from his ear and hung up on Race’s parents mid sentence. Spot powered off Race’s phone before turning back to his boyfriend. He laid his boyfriend down on the bed before lying down next to Race and pulling him onto his chest. Race let out a sob into Spots chest. A sob turned into too many to count and Spot was just petting through Races hair, whispering soft reassuring words into his ear, as he also rubbed a hand on his back.
After a little while, Race’s crying had slowed and Spot asked,
“Racer, why were you talking to your parents?” Race sniffled and cleared his throat before he said,
“I forgot to not have my cousin see my Insta post of us going to Rhode Island because one of the pictures had us kissing. He saw it and told my parents.”
“Oh baby, I'm so sorry.” Spot whispered, holding Race closer. They stayed in that position for a while and Race fell asleep like that.
