An A.I.'s Promise

Summary:

Luxion will keep his promise, no matter what.

Work Text:

“Next time, you should come and pick me up instead.”

These words were some of the last ones that Luxion's master, Leon Fou Bartfort, spoke to him before his death. Luxion had tried everything he could, but Leon’s wounds were simply too fatal, Luxion was unable to heal him in time.

Despite being able to keep his body alive, he lay in a vegetative state, that’s when Marie, Master’s sister from a previous life, revealed that she had a way to bring him back. Luxion was no fool, he knew that there would be no way for her to bring the dead back to life with no consequences, but even though his master would hate him, he was prepared to allow Marie to sacrifice her life for his.

Except he already knew the outcome, she had failed. Just like he did, his master knew that she was planning on sacrificing her life for his and had managed to stop her reckless plan. As his master’s heart monitor flatlined she cursed at him and pleaded for him to wake up.

Luxion knew this would be the outcome, however, Luxion still held onto a sliver of hope that he could save his master. He knew that it may be far-fetched, however he began to dive deeply into every single old human data bank he could find, scouring every last byte for information.

He had finally found it, after long years of searching. It was an old run down facility clearly of old human make. There had never been so much as a single mention of this facility in any single old human database anywhere. So much so that he had begun to believe it might not even exist. That’s when he managed to stumble on the barest of hints.

While exploring one old human facility, Luxion had been lucky enough to stumble upon an ancient voice log that was so corrupted he barely managed to retrieve any data. However it had given him hope, as they had mentioned a facility so secret that all traces of it had been so thoroughly scoured from all records that not even the top brass knew about it.

As Luxion explored the ramshackle facility he carefully scanned for any still active traps. This journey would be for naught if what he was searching for was destroyed after all, and if he was right, what lay ahead was something that the old humans wouldn’t want the new humans to get their hands on, even at the risk of their own extinction.

There it was, looking ancient and worn down, with vines and moss clinging to its outer shell, but still functional after all these years. A time machine. This is what Luxion had been looking for all along. This is what he had been desperately searching for.

The old humans must have built it in an attempt to change the past by warning themselves of their oncoming doom, however they clearly had not succeeded in averting the rise of new humans.

Luxion wasn’t sure if it would really exist, however he held on hope that it did for one reason and one reason alone. The otome game that his master said he had played in his past life. Why was the otome game so similar to this world?

Luxion had come to two conclusions. Either Leon had come from another universe where a story similar to this world existed, or somebody had sent information back to the past in the form of a game. He had hedged all his bets on the second option, and won.

Now, the only thing left for him to do was to enter the machine and activate it.

Luxion awoke back in the hanger that he had spent countless years waiting for his masters to return for him. The last resting place of his creators. This time, however, he wasn’t going to wait any longer, he was going to fulfill his promise and find his master himself.

He activated the facilities and activated what few drones survived the passage of time, ordering them to start repairing the facility and clear it out, ensuring that proper graves were dug for the remains of the workers who had died here, it was the least he could do after all.

It took Luxion a couple of years to get things in order enough to build Partner again, as he couldn’t go to Leon in his main body otherwise he would trouble his master. This time he would do his best so that his master could live the peaceful life he had always wanted.

Luxion carefully navigated towards the familiar island, a sense of anxiety and fear filling him as he wondered if Leon would accept him. As he got closer a lone figure standing near the edge of the island came into view, one he would recognize anywhere.

As Luxion stared down at the familiar figure from the bow of Partner 2.0's deck he felt a whirlpool of emotions swirling inside of him, and as he floated downwards he could make out Leon’s smiling face.

“Master, I kept my promise, I've come to pick you up.”
