It’s Just A Game

Summary:

Daisuke finds a game of monopoly and the crew decides to play, that’s all.

Chapter 1: Before the game

Chapter Text

Sitting in the lounge, Anya felt a weird rattling sound coming up from behind her. Turning around, it was Daisuke smiling ear to ear, holding up a game of monopoly.

“Anya! What do you think, should we have a game?” Daisuke asked her, but before she could answer Swansea spoke up from the other end of the lounge.

Damnit Daisuke, maybe before offering you should check that all the pieces are inside ya dumbass!” Curly called out as he walked over to the others.

Curly & Jimmy were discussing something else when the other three’s conversation reeled them in.

Daisuke slapped the box on the table and started going through the pieces inside.

“I call the dinosaur!” He declared as Swansea swat him over the back of the head.

“You still haven’t checked everything!” Swansea pointed out as he pushed Daisuke out of the way to search himself.

“But if we have everything, we can play?” Daisuke eagerly responded.

“I wouldn’t mind if we have everything here.” Anya chimed in, peering over Daisuke’s shoulder.

“Yeah! But it’s a 4 player game, and there’s 5 of us…” Daisuke sighed.

“What about you Curly, do you want to play with us?” Anya asked him.

“Uh, no thanks Anya, I prefer to just watch these sorts of things.” Curly replied.

“Oh… okay.” Anya sighed, really wanting him to play with him.

“Can you guys stop acting like we can even play?” Swansea barked, “All the money’s gone!”

“Aw man.” Daisuke commented, “I really liked monopoly as a kid.”

“Why don’t you guys just keep track of your money on paper?” Curly called out before leaving the room and turning into his quarters.

“That could work.” Anya smiled, “But we need someone to keep track of everyone’s money.” Anya glared at Daisuke from the other side of the table.

“Oh come on Anya, how do you cheat at a dice game?” Daisuke frustratingly responded.

Jimmy reminded himself of last week’s board game night where Anya accused Daisuke of cheating at a different board game.

“I can keep track if you want.” Curly reappeared with paper and pencils in hand.

“Thanks Curly!” Daisuke bounded over, “Okay, so everyone starts with $1500.” Daisuke trailed on as he took the paper from Curly’s hands and began writing some numbers inside.

“Here Anya, is this cheated?” Daisuke smugly showed her the parchment.

“No, it isn’t.” Anya smiled before Jimmy spoke up.

“God Anya, do you have to be so paranoid?” He smirked

“Alright, quit your yammering, the game’s ready.” Swansea said, “Also, I’m using the dog.”

“Alright then, I’ll use the cat.” Anya smiled, looking into the tiny cat’s metallic face.

“Sweet, that means I get the best piece in the world, the racing car!” Jimmy celebrated as he put the car next to the other three pieces on the go space.

Anya didn’t think this is how today would turn out, but it seemed nice.

And peaceful.

Chapter 2: Need More

Chapter Text

“So, who’s going first?” Swansea asked before Anya cut in.

“I’ll go!” She insisted before picking up the dice and rolling them. As the faces showed a 3 and a 5. Anya tapped the board every time she took a step before landing on Euston Road.

“Euston Road costs $100, will you buy it?” Curly turned to Anya.

“Yes, I will.” Anya hummed to herself as she picked up the card.

“Alright, my turn!” Daisuke exclaimed as he picked up the dice and rolled them, snake eyes.

“Hell yeah, community chest! Daisuke cheered before picking up the card.

“You are assessed for street repairs, so pay nothing!” He smiled before slipping the card under the light blue deck.

“Well hang on now, Curly should draw the cards, that way no one can cheat!” Anya explained, mainly focusing her eyes on Daisuke.

“Jeez Anya, you get pretty competitive, huh?” Curly chuckled before grabbing the bottom card and reading it. “Nope, he’s right.” Anya grumbled a bit but that was all.

“Finally, my turn.” Jimmy grumbled before rolling a 6 and a 1. “Ugh, fucking chance.” He grumbled again.

“Hey, what’s wrong with chances?” Daisuke asked him.

“They’re useless, the point of the game is to own all the properties, not draw all the chance cards.” Jimmy explained.

“Advance to the nearest utility, if unowned you may buy it from the bank.” Curly read out the orange card.

“Heh, this is what I’m talking about, I’m buying it.” Jimmy smiled before moving to the electric company, “That’s $150.” Curly stated as he erased previous numbers.

Swansea picked up the dice next and rolled a 3 and a 4. “Chance!” Swansea exclaimed before Curly picked up an orange card for him.

“Go back three spaces.” Curly said neutrally.

“Heh, figures.” Swansea smirked before going back 3 spaces, and then paying $200 to the bank, as he landed on income tax.

Anya picked up the dice and rolled a 4 and 6, tapping along the board until she stopped at Marlborough Road. “Are you gonna buy that?” Curly asked her.

“Yes.”, she responded.

“Alright, then that’s $180.” Curly spoke to himself.

Daisuke picked up the dice again and rolled a 2 and a 1.

“Looks like your luck’s running out.” Anya chuckled as Daisuke moved to Kings Cross Station.

“I’m buying it, $200!” Daisuke declared, a new fire in his eyes.

“My turn again.” Jimmy commented before rolling a 6 and a 3, landing on Strand.

“Are you buying Strand?” Curly asked him, “It’ll be $220.”

“Heh, of course, that’s how you win.” Jimmy chuckled as he grabbed the red property card.

Swansea rolled a 1 and a 4, landing on Pentonville Road.

“Finally, a property for everyone!” Curly exclaimed but Swansea decided otherwise.

“Nah, start the auction.” Swansea stated, shocking Anya & Daisuke.

“What?! But it’s only $120? Why?” Daisuke asked him.

“Daisuke, in this game every dollar counts, I’m not buying everything I can and then going broke a minute later.” Swansea explained.

“My turn would be next, so I’ll start.” Anya raised her hand to get everyone’s attention. “I bid $50.”

“Hah, no way!” Daisuke laughed, “The cheap ones are the best, so I’m not gonna let you get a set, $60!”

“$70!” Anya called out, Daisuke snapped back with $80, then Anya with $90, and then Daisuke again with $100.

“$300.” Jimmy called out, in a monotone voice.

“What-“ Anya tried to speak but she was interrupted.

“I don’t want you to have it.” Jimmy glared at her, making her slouch in her seat. “Okay…” She sighed.

Anya readjusted herself in her seat and rolled a pair of 6s. “Go to jail!” Anya & Daisuke both exclaimed at the same time.

“Hahaha, looks like I’m gonna win easy peasy.” Daisuke giggled as he moved Anya’s cat to the jail space.

“Agh… this isn’t over!” Anya playfully swat Daisuke’s shoulder.

Daisuke was the next to roll a pair, rolling two 4s and placing his dinosaur on Whitehall.

“Whitehall is $140, will you buy it?” Curly asked Daisuke.

“Of course!” Daisuke laughed as he picked up his new property card.

Jimmy picked up the dice and rolled a 2 and a 5, landing on the water works.

“Hah! And that’s a full set!” Jimmy laughed aloud as Curly peered over to check the price on the card.

Swansea picked up the dice next and rolled a 4 and a 6, landing on Vine Street.

Swansea gave a look to Jimmy before saying anything. “I’ll buy it.”

“Alright then, that’ll be $200.” Curly thought aloud.

Anya picker up the dice again and rolled a 2 and a 3.

“Looks like your stuck in jail.” Daisuke commented, sticking his tongue out at her.

“Not if I pay the bail.” Anya smirked before moving her cat out of jail and onto Marylebone Station.

“The station costs $200, so the total is $250.” Anya explained, turning to Curly.

“Alright then, I guess I’ll just have to take all your money!” Daisuke laughed as he rolled a 6 and a 5, moving his piece to Trafalgar Square.

“That’ll cost $240, Daisuke.” Curly looked to him for an answer.

“Haha, of course I’m buying it.” Daisuke smirked, leaning back into the couch.

Jimmy rolled an 8 and a 2, grumbling about the chance cards as he landed on the according space.

“Your building loan matures, collect $150.” Curly read aloud.

“Heh, looks like this’ll be an easy game.” Jimmy smirked.

Swansea rolled a 1 and a 4, sitting his piece adjacent to Daisuke’s.

“And here comes the money.” Daisuke whispered to himself. “Pay up Swansea, $20.”

“About time some money started getting passed around.” Swansea grunted.

Anya picked the dice up and rolled a 1 and a 6, landing on the chance space.

“So Curly, what’d I get?” Anya eagerly asked.

“It says… advance to Mayfair!” Curly responded.

“Yes!” Anya cheered, “I’ll buy it.”

“You can’t buy that.” Jimmy interrupted.

“What?” Anya tried to ask before getting interrupted again.

“It doesn’t say you can buy it, so you can’t buy it.” He reaffirmed.

“Oh… okay…” Anya sighed in defeat.

“Okay, I guess I’m next.” Daisuke cautiously picked up the dice and rolled a 2 and a 5.

“Regent Street.” Curly said calmly, “Will you buy it?”

“Uhm…” Daisuke gave himself a second before answering. “I can’t, it’s too much money.”

“Alright, so we got an auction.” Swansea smiled before holding up 3 fingers. “$300.”

“What!? Not even a chance at a starting bid?” Daisuke exclaimed in surprise.

“$310.” Jimmy stared at Swansea before the latter spoke while staring back at him, “$350.”

“Argh, fine, you can keep it if it’s that precious to you.” Jimmy groaned.

“But Swansea, isn’t that really expensive?” Curly asked him before receiving an answer. “That’s why I saved my money earlier.” He said before rolling the dice in Jimmy’s direction.

Jimmy scooped the dice into his hand and rolled, showing a 3 and a 4.

“Whitechapel Road, I’m buying it.” He said bluntly.

“You also get $200 for passing go, right?” Curly asked him.

“Obviously.” Jimmy sneered, rolling his eyes as he flicked the dice back to Swansea.

Swansea rolled a 2 and a 6, moving his piece to Oxford Street.

“That’s another $300…” Jimmy glared at the buyer.

“$300 well spent.” Swansea glared back.

“Actually guys.” Curly stood up from the couch with the notes tracking the money. “I’m out of space, so I need to grab more paper, I’ll be right back.”

Curly’s emptiness opened up a new position. Jimmy stood up, walked a few paces, and sat down in the middle seat of the couch, in between Anya & Daisuke.

There was an awkward silence before someone spoke.

“Um, excuse me, I need to grab something from my room, I’ll be back soon.” Anya said before leaving towards her quarters.

Daisuke was next to speak up after a few seconds passed, “Hey Jimmy, could you grab my sandwich from the kitchen for me?” Jimmy glared beside him but Daisuke continued, “I’ve got a really sore butt from sitting, but you were just up, so you can grab it for me, right?”

“Jimmy took a few seconds before answering, “I guess.” He groaned as he got back up and went up to the kitchen.

Daisuke took the cue to spread his legs across the couch, with Swansea joining in by filling the third seat with his butt.

As Jimmy returned, he immediately noticed how Daisuke & Swansea covered the whole couch. “Move, I want to sit there.” He demanded.

“Just sit on the floor.” Swansea responded, “You were just there and my back hurts.”

“And Daisuke?” Jimmy replied.

“He already told you, are did you already forget?” Swansea furrowed his brow before Anya & Curly returned.

“I’m back, how’s this?” Curly asked, flashing the new piece of paper towards the guys.

As soon as Curly sat down on the ground, Daisuke moved his legs to make room for Anya.

“Oh, thanks Daisuke.” She smiled as she sat down and picked up the dice.

“Gotta say kid, you aren’t a complete moron.” Swansea snickered.

“I’m not sure what you mean.” Daisuke laughed back, sticking his tongue out at him.
