The Adventures Of Cedar Addams - The Wenclair Family

Summary:

Wedneday and Enid are married and in domestic bliss. But something is missing, a pack of their own, someone to be as bright as a rainbow like Enid and as purposeful as Wednesday.
But they can’t seem to make it work, until a fateful day driving back from a clinic where they had received the worst blow possible for their dream of their own family.
(Ch2 will explain the AU and more about the characters and ideas behind this series.)

This will be a series of SFW snippets of the Addams together with the new addition, it won’t be in chronological order and each one will be relatively self contained at first.

Chapter 1: The Blessing of Mother Nature

Chapter Text

“I’m afraid it’s not great news Mrs Addams, even with the simulated sperm we formulated from your wife’s DNA you will not be able to have a baby of your own.”

Enid dropped her head low and started to shake, a sure fire indication the worst kind of tears were about to make themselves known - tears of despair. Wednesday felt helpless in these situations

Wednesday pulled Enid into her space and hugged her, the same type of desperate hug they had shared that first night in the woods, broken and blood stained with their classmates watching. Normally this was an action only done in private but her wife needed her right now.
However this wasn’t a hug of relief like the night she defeated Crackstone. That was an embrace of a victory won and a heart given in service - this was lamenting a future they wanted but now could never have. Not even one of Grandmama Addams’ most elaborate potions could save this situation.

Wednesday couldn’t have kids after the stab from Crackstone, because while that healed quickly it had caused internal damage to her reproductive organs. Enid, they subsequently learnt during the following conversation with the doctor, had a congenital disease which meant her womb just didn’t work how it needed to.

Wednesday didn’t think the tears would ever stop, and even joined in as they sat in their car outside, repeating the embrace in a vain attempt to recover the bubbly positivity she once endured from Enid Sinclair, but now depended on with Enid Addams to keep her sane.

All was lost. All their hopes and dreams for their own family, their own wolf pack.

The drive home back to their mountain lodge - more of a sprawling luxury estate - was done in silence, with just a brief stop for Enid’s favourite Taco-Bell which failed to lift her mood, which in turn darkened Wednesdays even further. She just didn’t know what to do. When the light in her life was threatened to be dimmed she was lost, and felt so powerless

It was a journey back home along their five mile private gravel drive they had made thousands of times, so when the small creature leapt out of the forest into the path of their Range Rover Wednesday almost didn’t react in time.

Shuddering to a halt caused a huge cloud of dust to rise up, which took a few seconds to disperse.

“Did we hit it?” asked Enid shakily.

“I don’t think so querida - are you harmed?” Wednesday asked, holding Enid’s elbow tentatively.

“No I’m ok, thank you dearest.” Enid replied, still staring out if the windscreen to try and see the creature again.

“There it is Enid - to the right.”

Enid’s eyes followed Wednesday's pointed finger to the side of the road where they could see the creature trying to hide behind a jagged rock, but its tail was still easily visible.

As usual Enid was the first Addams to react, her concern evident in her haste to get out of the car and approach the creature. Wednesday watched as her wife picked the creature up and held it for a few seconds before turning around and bringing it to the drivers door. Wednesday wound the window down cautiously

Wednesday was always more careful as she didn’t have Enid’s razor sharp claws or incredible strength when it came to wild animals. Her wolf was always her best protector despite her prowess with the blades hidden about her person.

“Willa look! The gods have blessed us today!!”

Wednesday could see clearly what Enid was holding - a small, shaking, scared, half shifted werewolf, who could not have been more than five or six years old

“But how has she shifted - or half shifted - it’s daylight?”

Enid beamed a large smile as she stroked the wolf’s head to keep it calm, which it seemed to do almost instantly. Enid had that effect on all forms of life - human or animal or anywhere in between. .

“I think ahe is a daywolf, a very rare form of werewolf who can change at any time, but are generally very poorly treated and often cast out into the wild when young as most werewolf families can’t handle their unpredictable behaviour.”

“Oh no Enid - does that mean……”

“Yes,” Enid interrupted, “she’s a lone wolf, just like little old me.”

Fresh tears rolled down Enid’s cheeks, and the little daywolf reached out and pawed at her cheeks, it’s baby soft fur soaking up the moisture before Wednesday had a chance to wipe her wife’s tears herself.

She looked into Enid’s eyes, sparkling blue and bright as the sun, and knew right there that Enid was now a mum. And so in turn she was one too.

Her heart broke with happiness, not that it showed on her face. She had a reputation to keep after all.

“What shall we call her?”

Enid smiled an even broader grin as she stared back into her tiny wife’s obsidian black irises.

“I don’t care, it’s doesn’t matter to me.” Enid stroked the little girls hair to calm her, already lost in love for the scared wolf in her arms.

“How about Cedar? She ran out from behind a cedar tree at the side of the road. Seems apt.”

“Mmmm that’s perfect Willa. Come on Cedar, time to go home.”

The little daywolf growled contentedly and licked Enid’s face quickly before she had chance to react, making Enid giggle like a schoolgirl.

As she pulled up to the front of their house Enid jumped out and rushed inside with Cedar, mumbling about a bath and some raw meat snacks for the new arrival.

Wednesday paused as she turned around to survey the vast valley in which their house was situated, the front looking out over the whole impressive vista. She imagined the colourfully dressed figure of Mother Nature leading Cedar to find their land and their home. It had only been a few minutes and Wednesday knew that this gift was truly direct from the earth spirit herself.

She whispered quietly into the wind, bowing her head in reverence of all that was around her.

“Thank you.”

She allowed a tear of joy to run down her cold cheek. then followed Enid inside, pushing the door shut on their home as happy squeals and laughs sounded from their bathroom. Clearly their daughter was receiving her first ever bath.

Wednesday didn't even try to stop the dimples from appearing on her cheeks as she smiled.

“What a truly dreadful day” she muttered as she found herself skipping towards the bathroom, like a lovesick idiot.

She wouldn’t have it any other way.

Chapter Text

Extract from “Werewolf Physiology - An Introductory Compendium for Family Packs”

Appendix 4, section C “Werewolf Sub Species - Daywolves

Daywolves are a rare subspecies of werewolves that are widely misunderstood and mistreated. They are not as rare as Blood Moon werewolves (the most recent example of course being the Prime Alpha werewolf Enid Addams (formerly of the disbanded Sinclair pack)) but most packs will never have experienced one being born into them.

It is possible to recognise a Daywolf as early as six months old, but their characteristics are most evident at around 2 to 3 years of age.

These characteristics include, but are not limited to:

  1. Ability to shift outside of full moon periods
  2. Ability to shift during daylight
  3. Shifting can be partial or full, depending on the cause of shifting.
  4. Shifting can be done willingly, or inadvertently during periods of stress or in defence of their safety.
  5. If allowed to stay shifted to the wolf state for more than 6 months it is unlikely they will ever be able to turn back to their human form
  6. Hair and fur is typically longer and thicker than most standard werewolves, but not always.
  7. Behaviour, especially in younger Daywolves, is always unpredictable, showing animalistic behaviour in human forms on a random basis. This can be controlled later in life. If the Daywolf is treated well this is normally playful and fun behaviour, a mistreated young Daywolf pup may lash out in anger.
  8. Normally happy as young pups unless mistreated (see cures and behaviour management below).
  9. Size is normally smaller than other werewolves as the constant shifting negatively impacts their growth rate.
  10. Nutrition -  needs at least three times the amount of calories as a normal werewolf. This is needed to fuel the constant shifting exertions.

Cures

There is no known cure for the Daywolf state, despite rigorous historical “testing”. Most “cures” traditionally used have no scientific basis and are almost always cruel and barbaric,  inflicting great pain and distress on the subject. As a result all attempts to cure or “turn” Daywolves is strictly illegal in all registered werewolf packs.

Support is available from various werewolf charities and support groups are available to help with rearing and coping with Daywolf pups.

Behaviour Management

The unfortunately limited research carried out so far has found that there are three main areas to concentrate on when raising a Daywolf pup.

1. Nutrition

Pups must be given at least triple the amount of food as normal pups, and this must contain mostly meat. If out of pack grounds this can be achieved with cooked meats and doesn’t need to be raw. Daywolves become very tired and mentally stressed if they do not have this correct nutrition so it is the first task of any DayWolf parent to ensure this is provided for.

2. Exercise

Daywolves, while not physically stronger as a regular Werewolf, are very athletic even at an early age. They thrive and excel with climbing, running and jumping exercises and related sports. All Daywolf parents should ensure these activities are freely available to their pups.

3. Mental Stability

Daywolf pups should be provided with a safe space to hide away in. The constant shifting is difficult to cope with mentally, especially at a young age when a Daywolf will struggle to understand why it happens and will not be able to control it. Parents should educate themselves to know when the signs are evident that the pup needs parental support (hugging, scenting, scratching as per usual pup needs) or alternatively needs to hide away in a private area.

The ideal situation is for a Daywolf pup to have their own sleeping quarters with an additional “safe space” within that room for them to retire to when needed. That space should never be entered in by the parent or even a werewolf health professional as a foreign scent will make it feel unsafe to the Daywolf pup. This is similar to the marital nest between mated pairs, and should be treated with the same reverence for best results.

Addendum:

It is understood new private research into Daywolf care is being carried out by the Addams Institute in Vermont, USA. As soon as this research is complete and verified by our specialist scientists it will be included in future editions of this publication.

Chapter 3: Bathtime Menace

Summary:

Being new mums was always a challenge, especially with a feral Daywolf as their daughter.
Wednesday is challenged in her solitude, how will she react?

Notes:

This is set a few weeks after they first find Cedar - she is about 6yo and still quite feral and shifts into her Daywolf state quite often as she is used to it after being alone so long.

Chapter Text

If anyone had pressed their ear to Enid and Wednesday’s family bathroom door they would have been forgiven for thinking that some sort of Kraken had been unleashed in their bathtub.
Thankfully this was not the case, but Cedar was doing her very best to imitate one as Enid struggled to keep her under control amongst all the toys and bubbles she was frolicking in.
Bath time for Cedar was a regular occurrence as her preference for playing outside in the mud, half shifted, meant that her long hair and skin was often plastered with sticky dirt with pine needles wedged in the matted fur.
It was fun spending time with Cedar for Enid, but it wasn’t always easy. Just after they had taken her into their household Wednesday had been given a new book deadline, and Wednesday preferred to make her publishers panic by giving them her finished book a few months early and demanding that it would be printed immediately. This meant self-imposed long days and nights at the trusty typewriter in her study. This didn’t bother Enid too much, she would be there when Wednesday was all sleepy and red-eyed after another all night writing session to look after her and make sure she had some rest cuddled up to her in bed.
But while Wednesday was writing they made sure her study was locked as Cedar could be roaming free and didn’t really understand what “momma is working don’t disturb her” meant.
Cedar was a werewolf and could sniff Wednesday out immediately whenever she was on their property, which was no mean feat considering she never wore any perfume or makeup and showered with scent free soaps and shampoos. Cedar was starting to understand about why doors were locked but she did get upset when she couldn’t see both her new mothers. It was for this reason they had installed the locks on the study door so Wednesday could hopefully work uninterrupted.

Enid was the fun mother, the nurturing mother and most importantly the mother Cedar went to when she hurt herself.

Wednesday had just a big a part to play as well. Whenever Cedar asked questions it was always directed at Wednesday. When Cedar was too hot she liked to cuddle up to Wednesday whose cold skin cooled her down a little bit. Wednesdays gentle words over her seemed to make her heart slow and her breathing less laboured when she was stressed or had gone through a painful full shift by surprise. Wednesday was the calm influence in her life she was drawn to when things got too much. Of course both of them could adopt each others roles as needed but they were very different people and had natural abilities that complemented each other really well when it came to looking after Cedar.

Today Cedar was being a total menace in the bathroom, splashing around and squealing with joy whenever Enid got another wave of water in her face. Bath toys were all over the room and very little of the floor wasn’t covered in bubbles or pools of water. In truth Enid was having as much fun as Cedar but also trying to ensure her daughter was cleaned up at the same time.

Enid momentarily took her eyes off Cedar when she turned to grab a fresh towel to wipe her face. In that brief period Cedar jumped out of the bath, landing on the floor with a soggy splat and ran into the hallway, trailing wet footprints behind her as she headed towards where she knew her other mother would be, her nose sniffing out Wednesdays scent immediately.

Enid was fast to react but Cedar had the head start and there was no way she would beat her daughter to her wife’s office door. Cedar was very quick on her paws when she was determined and not many people - or werewolves - could keep up with her.
Wednesday’s office door slammed wide open after a splintering crack, the sound of the lock being ripped from its door frame. The mechanism was never designed to be strong enough to withstand a full speed onslaught from a small but powerful Daywolf pup - Cedar had just run full speed at the door and it never stood a chance.

Enid was just behind her and close enough to see Wednesday spinning in her chair to see Cedar running towards her, the furious ball of fur soaking wet and squealing with excitement.

Wednesdays face was a picture of shock as Cedar jumped towards her, the spray from her fur already landing on the freshly typed pages laid carefully across her desk.

Enid’s heart stopped. Wednesday’s writing was never duplicated, and her wife treated it with kid gloves once each page was finished. There would be no rescuing the work once it was soaked through with the soapy bathwater and Enid fully expected her wife to explode with anger at the damage caused.

Cedar landed in Wednesday’s lap and buried her face in Wednesday’s neck, scenting and snuffling into her skin. In a quick moment Wednesday was soaked and at least ten pages of her novel had newly smeared ink across them.

Enid was frozen to the spot, not sure about what to do, when the most delightful sound came from Wednesday’s lips - a deep throaty chuckle. Her wife nuzzled into Cedar’s wet fur in return, causing their daughter to giggle and squirm even more. Wednesday held Cedar out at arms length, big smiles on both their faces.

“Well well it seems our little terror has found me! You are very clever Cedar. Now will you let me count to ten to find you?”

Cedar nodded excitedly and jumped towards the floor, her claws scrabbling on the finely polished walnut floor as she struggled for grip. Eventually she picked up some speed and raced out of the room, laughing and squealing with joy.

“It seems I have a hunt a Daywolf down now, want to help me my love?” she asked Enid, as she quickly slipped her combat boots on and started to tie the laces.

“B-but your work Willa? Aren’t you mad?”

Wednesday glanced at the pages which had been ruined, took Enid’s hand in hers and kissed the back of her knuckles, then her cheek, an action which always made Enid blush a little, then spoke softly into her ear.

“I can replace those pages, but this moment with our daughter will never happen again.”

Enid melted at this, just realising in that moment how much their daughter had changed her wife. If there had been any doubt of Wednesday’s dedication to their little wolf pack it was obliterated instantly.

“It won’t happen at all if we don’t hurry up,” she joked, “you know how fast she can be!”

“Well that’s why my big bad wolf is going to help me, you up for the hunt my darling?”

“Always my little terror.”

Enid half dragged Wednesday down the hallway to the now open side door. With a resigned sigh she realised she was going to have to make Cedar take another bath once she was ‘caught’, as there was no doubt she’d be back in the muddy undergrowth already.

“Maybe we will both help Cedar with her bath this time?” Wednesday asked as they picked up speed as they reached the tree line.

“If you think you’re tough enough babycakes….”

“How hard can it be?”

Enid giggled at this, knowing that Cedar would soon be soaking them both again in bath water despite Wednesdays bravado. But first they had to catch her, and the woods were Cedar’s home turf, and the afternoon was going to be a long one trying to catch her.

It was turning out to be a wonderful day.

Notes:

Hope you like this, there’s more to come soon! Let me know if you have any requests of situations our little Wenclair pack might get into that I can write about. Cedar can be between 6yo and 16yo - challenge me!!
Thanks for reading.

Chapter 4: Some Memories Never Fade

Summary:

Wednesday finds something new about her daughter and its not good news. But they find a way past it.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Wednesday heard Cedar’s shouts of joy long before her daughter’s tiny feet stomped across the tiled kitchen floor towards the countertop. She had been with them for a year now and while they had managed to teach her enough speech to catch up with her peers, she was still very werewolf-like in her movements even though she didn’t look like one in her human form. The joy was simply because Cedar was always hungry and she could smell meat being grilled. She sure could eat a lot for such a small girl.

Enid had taken the time to find out more of DayWolves in their extensive library - Wednesday having insisted on one when they built the house - and had realised with research that they must have caught Cedar just in time before she became completely wild and unable to shift back to human form. They had estimated Cedar had been abandoned in the woods for two years, so probably since she was four years old, as they had taken her in when she was approximately six and so was now seven.

On finding this out Wednesday had fallen into a despairing rage for days, unable to fathom how anyone could abandon their own offspring to fend for themselves at such a young age. In order not to upset her girls she had hidden away and tried to concentrate on her writing.

It had been Cedar herself who had brought Wednesday’s mood back to normal, barging the door to her office down with surprising ease and running into her momma’s arms, much in the same way as Enid had done all those years before in the Nevermore woods. Cedar had cried when they hugged, repeating “I miss you momma” over and over again. Which of course made Wednesday cry too, not that she would ever admit that to Enid. She promised to herself at that moment that she would never distance herself from Cedar ever again - she didn’t want her beautiful daughter to feel unloved for any reason.

And Cedar was so very beautiful. When she was half shifted Cedar was wild looking but when back in human form she was every bit a cute and pretty young girl with a very persuasive and slightly crooked smile, her green eyes sparkling with joy.

As Cedar climbed up onto the high stool at the kitchen counter her long brown hair tumbled over her face which she quickly pushed away with the palm of her hand, then blew her bangs away with a loud “pfffft”. Cedar hated her hair being cut and Enid was only able to trim her bangs while she was asleep so Cedar could see properly.

Cedar also didn't allow her hair to be brushed or styled by anyone, but did it herself occasionally after seeing Wednesday brush her hair and subsequently asked for her own brush, Enid only happy to buy her daughter some beauty items she could call her own.

As a result of this reluctance, her hair was down to her waist and wildly curly and messy. It hadn’t been an issue before now and so they had never really needed to take any action, but it was becoming a real problem now.

As Wednesday placed a plate of pork chops and bacon in front of her daughter she decided to ask about her hair.

“Cedar darling?”

“Yes momma?”

“Would you like me to do something with your hair one day? It looks like it’s getting in the way a lot. Maybe I could cut it for you?”

Cedar stopped chewing and stared at Wednesday, a look of terror on her face.

“NO MOMMA NO NO NO NO!!!!” the little girl screamed as she dropped her cutlery, jumped off the stool and ran out of the front door and towards the side of the house.

Wednesday was shocked and frozen for a second, until she realised she had to go after her.

After searching around outside for a few minutes she found her daughter cowering behind the wood store. Not wanting to scare her, Wednesday sat down on the floor a few metres away, making sure her daughter could see her but not facing her or making any movements towards her.

After another couple of minutes, when she could sense Cedar had calmed a little, she spoke.

“Cedar darling, I’m so sorry for upsetting you. That was not my intention. I will never cut, or even touch your hair unless you ask me to, and I will never talk about it ever again if that is what you wish.”

“Sorry momma.” Cedar sniffed, her knuckles pushed into her eyes to try and stop the tears.

“You have nothing to be sorry for darling, it was completely my fault. If you are comfortable doing so can you explain why what I said upset you so I can make sure I don’t do it again? You don’t have to answer me, you won’t get into trouble.”

After a long pause, Cedar spoke, in an almost inaudible whisper, clearly struggling to get the words out.

“Bad mommy used to do it.”

Wednesday's throat tightened her nerves on edge instantly. Enid and Wednesday had let Cedar use the term ‘bad mommy’ to talk about her birth mother. Cedar seemed to remember some small parts of her life before being abandoned, her new mothers dealing with these traumatic memories for the little girl as they surfaced as best as they could.

“Bad mommy used to cut your hair?” asked Wednesday tentatively.

“Yes, and it hurt.”

“Why did it hurt honey?”

“She pulled it out and used a blade to take it off. It really hurt momma.”

Tears flowed from her daughter's eyes, Wednesday wanting to just pick her up and hold her tight, but she was confused at her description and although she knew it wouldn’t be nice to delve further she needed to while Cedar was open to talking about it.

“She pulled it out and scraped it off your head?”

“Everywhere momma. All over. It hurt so bad.”

“All over? Did she do it when you were a wolf then?”

Cedar bowed her head and tried to stem the tears with the sleeve of her jumper, Wednesday so proud of her daughter's bravery in speaking about what must have been a horrific experience.

“Bad mommy said I was naughty for being a wolf in the daytime and would pull out my wolf hair and a blade scraped my skin.”

Wednesday realised what Cedar was telling her and her heart broke into a million pieces. She had read in the extensive lycanthropy books they owned about an old fashioned - and very illegal - practice of trying to turn a daywolf into a normal werewolf by shackling them down when they turned in daylight and pulling their hair out and shaving them to try and train their werewolf brain to shift only at night. It was proven not to work centuries ago and was incredibly barbaric. And to think they had done this to a four year old girl.  Wednesday clapped her hand to her mouth to try and stop herself from crying out loud and stay as composed as possible.

“My beautiful girl, you were never bad. Neither mommy or I would ever do that to you. I promise. You are beautiful just as you are, no matter how much hair you have.”

“Can I keep my hair long?” asked Cedar through her sniffles.

“Of course honey, whatever you want. Maybe we can go shopping for some hair accessories so you can tie your hair up if it gets in the way?”

Cedar instantly perked up and turned to face Wednesday, now on her knees and waving her hands around with excitement.

“Can mommy come too? I like her hair bands they are pretty!”

“Yes of course. We can also go to Uncle Pubert's restaurant and get you a big juicy steak if you want too?”

Cedar grinned, the mention of meeting her crazy uncle making her eyes light up. Or maybe it was the steak which Pubert was a master at cooking that excited her? Either way, Wednesday was in a renewed state of bliss seeing her daughter's beautiful smile reappear.

Cedar got up and ran over to Wednesday and flopped down into her lap, her little arms wrapping tightly around her momma's waist.

Wednesday leant over and whispered into her daughter’s ear.

“I am so proud of you for being so brave. If there is anything you ever want to tell us we will always be there for you.”

A “thanks momma” came from Cedar, her words muffled as her face was buried in Wednesday's thick black jumper. It was at that moment Enid appeared.

“Hey girls whatcha doing hiding here?” she asked.

Wednesday shook her head lightly, a silent signal to not ask too many questions and speak later in private. Wednesday thought fast - she didn’t want to betray Cedar’s trust, not even to her wife, at least not until Cedar was in bed and asleep and they could discuss the issue in private.

“We were playing hide and seek weren’t we Cedar?” she offered, hoping Cedar would play along.

Cedar wiped her face with Wednesday’s jumper and looked deep into her momma's eyes. Wednesday saw trust in Cedar's dark green eyes. And maybe a little bit of mischievousness too. Damn, sho thought.

“Yes, and I found momma really quickly cos she’s not good at hiding!”

“Is that so Cedar? Maybe momma needs to practice more?” Enid smirked, knowing she had trapped her wife in this conversation.

“Yeah! And we are going shopping now to the mall, momma promised! And you are coming too, Mommy!”

Enid stood there, wondering what had happened for Wednesday to willingly go to the mall, but it didn't matter. A win was a win, and seeing Wednesday and her daughter smile so widely made her fall in love with them all over again. It was time to tease Wednesday now she had the chance.

“Maybe momma can get some colourful ties for her dark hair, what do you think Cedar darling?”

“Don’t be silly Mommy, Momma will melt if she touches colour!”

“Oh, will I?” Wednesday teased. “What happens if I blow a raspberry on your tummy, will YOU melt?”

“No momma it tickles!” Cedar squealed, then Wednesday picked her up and blew on her stomach, Cedar letting out the throatiest of cute giggles.

Enid melted at the sight of her small - but perfect - wolf pack. Who were now going to terrorise the mall - again - and probably be thrown out, again

Not before she got her daughter some rainbow unicorn hair ties though.....

Hope you liked this one. Bit of trauma to come out but out little pack handled it well, don't you think?

Chapter 5: First Day At School Part One

Summary:

Cedar is off to school - a little late, but how will she cope with it?

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Enid and Wednesday climbed out of their Range Rover outside the elementary school and opened the back doors. There was a steady throng of small kids with worried-looking parents around the front of the school - most likely also dropping their kids off for their first-ever day in education too.

Wednesday grabbed Cedar’s little backpack, a cute brown one which looked like a wooden log and tried not to touch the ridiculous amount of colourful pin badges adorning it. She didn’t want blisters this early in the day.

Enid busied herself with unbuckling Cedar from her little car seat, a seat which had seen better days but with Cedars tiny little claws being so razor sharp most of her car seats were damaged beyond repair in a few weeks. Such was the life of a parent with a squirmy fidgety little DayWolf as a daughter.

Thankfully Cedar had recently managed to get her claws under control in the summer so they had decided it was probably best to send her to school. Cedar was clever for her age, Wednesday had made sure of that, so le even though she would be joining the school in third grade she would still be able to keep up with the academic work she needed to understand.

It was other people she struggled with.

Cedar did not like adults, and she didn’t like being told what to do. This was almost certainly due to how cruel her birth parents had been, and while they didn’t have any great knowledge about what had happened to Cedar before she was abandoned there were little snippets that their daughter talked about which helped them understand what she had been through. It would be a very painful day indeed for her birth parents if they ever met Wednesday Addams now she knew what they had done to their little bundle of joy.

Enid had been to the school and spoken to the teachers about all this and agreed on how best to deal with Cedar in their learning environment. They had even had some of the teachers visit their ranch for a weekend to see how Enid and Wednesday interacted with Cedar, the teachers very glad to be treated to a five star luxury weekend away at the Addams’ expense.

So it was with great relief that Wednesday spotted the vice principal Mrs Atkinson at the school gates, waving over to them cheerfully as they closed the car doors and led Cedar towards the school. The little wolf was vibrating with excitement at the thought of this new expereince, even if the mass of kids running around the Addams group were a little overwhelming. She was tough and headstrong and Wednesday had tauight her well in how to stand up for herself. Enid had counteracted that with ideas on how to make friends and make the other kids laugh.

“Mrs and Mrs Addams so good to see you again!” Mrs Atkinson chirped as they met. Cedar stood between her two mothers with her back straight looking straight up at the teacher with a big proud smile on her face.

“And Cedar you look fantastic in your uniform!! And your hair is still soooo beautiful.”

Cedar flicked her hair back over her shoulder. It was still impossibly long and unkempt but she was very proud of it and thankfully had been given a pass at the school - normally they didn’t like very long hair that wasn’t tied up for safety reasons but Cedar was more likely to be the danger other kids were facing not the other way round. The little wolf waved cutely - she didn’t speak often especially to strange adults straight away - which made all three adults hearts melt.

Enid was the first to speak, eventually being able to relax now Cedsr was at ease.

“Mrs Atkinson thank you so much for meeting us here. I know Cedar loves to see you and it’s made the start of the day much easier.”

“That’s ok Mrs Addams, I will be teaching Cedar’s class today so I will be able to asses how she was with the other students and how well she fits in.”

“Your efforts are very much appreciated Mrs Atkinson” Wednesday replied rather more somberly.

“Mrs Addams, it’s the least I can do after you paid for our new commercial  kitchen, the Michelin star chef to run it and upgraded our sports hall with the magnificent climbing wall.”

“I want to make sure my daughter has the best start in education  and feels at ease with an environment close to what we have at home. She might settle in lessons more easily if she is able to burn some energy off and has enough quality meat and carbohydrates for lunch.”

“I have given strict instructions she is only to each rare steak for mealtimes Mrs Addams, and her climbing wall is available whenever she wants it.”

“It is to benefit all the children, Mrs Atkinson, not just Cedar. If they are well nourished and exercise regularly all the children’s learning will improve dramatically.”

“I see you have done your homework Mrs Addams, I just wish the education authorities could see that too.”

“I will make them see.” Wednesday replied, a little more darkly.

Enid saw her wife starting to get a little too serious so stepped in, placing a hand on Wednesdays shoulder, her cue to take a deep breath and let Enid take over the conversation.

“Anyway…..Mrs Atkinson thanks so much,,,,,and Cedar darling…..” Enid knelt down and hugged her daughter tightly “you’ve left your stabbing knife at home yes?”

Cedar gave a little nod.

“And you’ve got all your art supplies?”

Another nod.

“And you’ll be nice to the other kids? If you feel yourself getting angry go to Mrs Atkinson and she will help you but you must try your best, ok?”

“I’ll try mama.”

In a surprise move to Enid, Wednesday knelt down too and kissed Cedar gently on the forehead.

“Have a terrible day my little wolf.” she whispered.

Mrs Atkinson looked in shock at these words. Cedar knew Wednesday said things the opposite way so wasn’t bothered.

“I will momma, you have an awful day too?”

Enid could see Wednesday almost tearing up so gave her daughter another hug before getting back up.

“You ready Cedar for your first day?” asked Mrs Atkinson.

“Yes Miss!!” chirped Cedar.

Enid and Wednesday stood hand in hand as their daughter walked off into the school with the teacher.

“I wonder if the teachers will survive Willa?”

“We will know in six hours mia lune. Or when the police call us.”

Enid looked at her wife to see her displaying a mischievous grin.

“You’re a menace Mrs Wednesday Addams.” she chuckled.

“Yea but you love it dont you Mrs Enid Addams?” replied Wednesday, giving her wife a knowing wink.

Enid rolled her eyes and opened the car door to let her wife get in

“No comment, babycakes.”

Chapter 6: First Day At School Part Two

Summary:

It had been a nervous wait for The Addams, how would Cedar get on at school?

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

After fretting and worrying and trying to keep themselves occupied for six long hours and completely failing to not be nervous wrecks, Enid and Wednesday pulled up to the school to collect Cedar. Neither of them spoke, too anxious to see what state Cedar would be in when she exited the main school door.

There was a sudden burst of noise, then at least ten small children tumbled out of the door, with Cedar in the middle of the group. She was laughing, giggling and jumping around with her classmates, the long educational day clearly not doing anything to tire her out.

Enid grinned widely at seeing her daughter happy, while Wednesday was happy on the inside, as was her way.

“Momma! MUMMY!!” Cedar squealed, barrelling over to them and almost tackling them both to the ground such was the energy and speed she was carrying.

“Are you….” Wednesday started to say but was quickly interrupted by her little daughter who was vibrating with energy and couldn't wait to speak.

“MOMMY THIS IS MY WOLFPACK!!!” Cedar shouted, “Come and meet them!”

Cedar dragged Enid and Wednesday over to the group of children who were all talking between themselves excitedly. As the Addams approached they all made growling noises and put their hands on their heads to mimic little wolf ears.

“I TOLD THE CLASS I WAS A WEREWOLF AND TOLD THEM ALL ABOUT IT AND SHOWED THEM MY CLAWS AND FUR AND THEY LOVED IT AND SAID THEY WANTED TO BE WOLVES TOO AND I SAID THEY COULD IF THEY COULD GROWL AND THEY COULD AND WE ARE A WOLFPACK NOW SO WE CAN LOOK AFTER EACH OTHER THIS IS LISA AND BETHANY AND ROBERT AND CLARA AND ….AND ……”

“Cedar dearest, please breathe. I do not wish for you to expire right now.” Wednesday interrupted, placing a cool, but loving hand on Cedar’s reddened cheek. Cedar gulped down a much-needed lungful of air and carried on.

“SHOW THEM EVERYONE!!” she shouted at her friends. The whole group lifted up their hands and showed off their makeshift claws taped to their fingers, made of lollipop sticks and cardboard and painted in all sorts of colours of glittery paint.

Cedar started a cute little growl and the group joined her, then fell about laughing and shouting.

“Did you teach them our werewolf code Cedar?” asked Enid.

“SURE DID MOMMY! Hey everyone what’s the rules?”

“BE KIND AND LEAVE NO-ONE OUT!!” they shouted in unison.

“That’s wonderful my little wolf. You have taught your peers well. Now it’s time to say goodbye to your pack until tomorrow, ok?” Wednesday added, guiding her daughter towards their car as she waved goodbye to her friends. She noticed Enid had a tear in her eye which she was trying to hide by slyly wiping it away with her sleeve, so motioned for her to get in the car and strapped Cedar in herself.

The journey home was anything but quiet, Cedar regailing them with stories from the day, clearly not traumatised about the new school experience.

Once they arrived home Wednesday suggested Cedar go and do some climbing in her room to let off some steam so she could see what Enid had been upset by. She found her wife in their bedroom sitting at her dressing table, dabbing away the copious amount of tears that flowed from her glistening blue eyes.

“My sweet wolf, what has made you so upset?” asked Wednesday quietly as she approached her. Enid jumped up and tackled her in a huge desperate hug, the pair both falling onto their bed in a heap. Enid was still sobbing so Wednesday stroked the back of her head to reassure her and also encourage her to tell her how she was feeling.

“I’m so happy Willa I was so worried about Cedar at school. I hated school, the kids were so mean to me cos I was a werewolf then even meaner when I couldn’t wolf out. Cedar had her little pack on the first day I just can’t believe it! Am I dreaming?”

“Well, dearest, you have taught her well, and her vivacious spirit clearly comes from you. Who wouldn’t be drawn to such a unique soul like our little wolf? If someone told me she was actually your daughter I would not be surprised. The earth goddess blessed us with a daughter in your own image, that cannot be denied.”.

Wednesday squeezed her wife extra hard and kissed her cheek, then pulled out a black silk hankerchief and dabbed Enid's tears away.

Enid was silent for a while, the only sound in the room the faint sniffles from her as she began calming down. The distinct smell of Wednesday - old books and peppermint - never failed to soothe her.

“I did catch her trying to sneak a knife into her backpack when she got ready this morning though, so I think there is some part of her that takes after you, babycakes.” Enid added, pulling away from Wednesday, a smile returning to her radiant face.

“Maybe I should buy her a sword too?” Wednesday pondered out loud.

“Can we at least wait until she’s had some formal fencing lessons?”

“She will need no such thing. She is an Addams, and I will teach her.”

“Ok ok my precious moon girl, I was just joking.”

Wednesday scowled.

“You should never joke about correct swordsmanship, Enid.”

Enid knew better than to tease Wednesday any more than that, she had her fun and tried to apologise by giving her wife a firm kiss on the lips. It was her best weapon against the overly serious nature her wife could sometimes get stuck in.

Wednesdays chased after Enid’s lips as Enid tried to stand up, Enid giving in for a few more seconds of marital making out before jumping up purposely.

“Ok before this goes any further, we need to make food, our little furball will be hungry, and I noticed you haven’t eaten at all today Willa.”

Wednesday huffed in annoyance but still allowed Enid to pull her up and drag her into the kitchen to help prepare food. What had she done to deserve such a perfect wife?

And a perfect daughter?

Chapter 7: Difficult Conversations

Summary:

Cedar comes home upset, and our little pack has to pick its way through a problem at school.

Chapter Text

Enid heard the door slam - and slam so hard it felt as if their whole house shook. She was used to this happening when Cedar got home from school as the girl didn’t know her own strength but this time it was accompanied by the faint sound of sniffs and sobs.

Ever since Cedar had been able to control her werewolf shifts more easily Enid and Wednesday had agreed to let her go to school. Home schooling served a purpose but it was no good for Cedar’s interpersonal skills being on her own in the house with just her parents to keep her company.

Cedar had looked forward to school and while her first few years were hard it was nothing that the other students weren’t experiencing - she was living the normal high school life. She had even let other parents who lived nearby bring her home. All of this was working so well.

Until today.

Enid left the kitchen and walked calmly over to Cedar's wing of their rather large house. Wednesday had insisted that Cedar have her own space and had immediately remodelled the interior to give Cedar her own wing of the house, much as Wednesday had enjoyed at the Addams mansion. Cedar had her own bedroom, lounge, bathroom and a gym which had all sorts of climbing and stress relief features in it. It was this room Enid stopped outside of as she heard Cedar racing around and growling behind the locked doors.

“Stress zoomies again?” Wednesday asked, startling Enid and making her jump. Enid had no idea why her wife never made a sound as she walked around their house -even after many years of marriage and living together she still wasn’t used to it. This time her wife was even wearing her heavy combat boots too which made the silence even more inexplicable.

Enid clutched her chest in surprise and then affection as Wednesday snaked her arm around her waist and pulled her close to kiss Enid on the cheek.

“Yeah I think so” she replied, blushing slightly. “I suppose you heard her come in too?”

“Yes mi amore , she sounded distressed. I am concerned.”

“Probably best to let her get the energy burnt off for a couple of minutes.”

“Good idea Enid. Shall we sit?” Wednesday asked

“Or we could make out?”

Wednesday blushed.

“That would be, errrrr, acceptable.”

While Wednesday was the queen of romantic gestures and proclaiming her love to her wife in grand ways, Enid was insatiable and just wanted to kiss her all the time. And Wednesday would never tire of kissing those perfect sweet-tasting lips. Or feel the power of being pressed up against the hallway wall by her strong werewolf wife, so there was no way she could escape Enid’s lips as they waited for their daughter to calm down.

After a few minutes Cedar appeared to become quieter so the two mums broke apart, lips bruised and cheeks flushed red. They took a few moments to calm down before Wednesday knocked on the door.

“Cedar honey, are you ok?”

Nothing.

Enid tried another method.

“Rawwww awooo?” she growled gently, the vibrations in her chest so deep Wednesday could feel them through the floor. Which meant Cedar could too.

“Rawruff” was heard from Cedar, so very quietly but enough for Enid to hear.

Enid opened the door and peeked her head inside the room.

“Can we come in, Cedar darling?”

Neither mum entered Cedar’s room without permission. Cedar was trusted to behave herself in her rooms and had been so good she insisted on cleaning and tidying them to show how much she appreciated her own spaces. Both Enid and Wednesday knew how lucky they were with how responsible Cedar was, even at her now relatively young 12 years of age, and were determined to reward Cedar with as much respect for her spaces as they could.

“Yes Mummy.”

Enid and Wednesday stepped inside to find Cedar curled up in a ball on one of the high climbing ledges. This room was built up against the rock face which their house was built in front of, a perfect and natural climbing wall for Cedar to practice on. And to hide away on her own sometimes too, the cracks, crevices and nooks in the rockface just the right size to snuggle into.

Wednesday knew not to beat around the bush. Cedar was not a little kid anymore and liked direct talking.

“So what happened at school Cedar dear?”

“Some girls were being mean about us to me. Saying that you shouldn’t be together as two girls.”

“Oh really. How did that make you feel?”

Wednesday didn’t enjoy asking that question but Enid had told her to ask it each time rather than getting the key to the weapons cabinet every time.

“Made me angry. And I wanted to turn into a wolf and bite them.  But I didn’t.”

Enid was next to reply.

“Oh honey I understand and I am SO proud that you didn’t. It can’t have been easy.”

“It was hard but you taught me to think first rather than react.”

Wednesday huffed quietly at this, Enid glaring at her. Wednesday would have preferred action, those girls would have deserved a quick swipe from Cedar’s small but razor sharp claws. But that wasn’t Enid’s style.

“So I thought about it and said ‘At least my mommas love each other unlike yours’ cos both their parents were mean to each other and broke up.”

Wednesday smiled. That was a comment she would have been very proud of herself. She knew better than to congratulate her daughter though and let Enid talk.

“Cedar, that might be true but don’t say hurtful things even if you are angry. It won’t help.”

“Ok mommy.”

“That’s a good girl.”

Cedar sat up and appeared to be pondering something before jumping down to the floor into a soft crouch, and then bouncing over to hug Enid. Wednesday stood by Enid’s side and watched her wife’s pride over her little pack become evident in her broad smile.

Cedar looked up at Enid and spoke plainly.

“Mommy, do I have to like girls like you and momma do?”

Enid glanced on Wednesday, both of them looking at each other with a ‘I guess we are talking about this now then!’ look. Wednesday shook her head as if to say ‘No way am I replying to this’. Enid sighed, and paused for thought for a few moments before speaking.

“Well, Cedar no you don’t. If you like someone that’s ok, it doesn’t matter who they are. As long as they respect you and care for you then that’s ok with us. Is there anyone you like?”

“Maybe. There’s a boy called Robert who made sure I was ok after the girls were mean to me. He’s really nice and talked to me for a while. He’s really kind to everyone and asked me loads of questions about being a Daywolf.”

“Seems as though you have a nice friend there, Cedar. Is he a normie or an outcast?”

“You shouldn’t say that Mommy, everyone is normal, we need to be nice to everyone.”

Enid was about to reply when Wednesday beat her to it.

“You are quite right Cedar, that is very clever. We should treat everyone with kindness and not presume we know people before we meet them.”

Enid looked over to her wife with a ‘who are you and what have you done with Wednesday?’ look, perfectly understandable given the out-of-character response from her. But dammit she was right. Before she could think of a witty reply Wednesday delivered another surprising line.

“Would you like to invite Robert over for pizza on Saturday? His parents can come too so we can meet each other.”

“Ooh that sounds fun Cedar what do you think?” Enid chirped, always happy to have guests to cook for.

“I’ll ask him, he only has a daddy, is that ok?”

“Of course darling,” Enid replied immediately “do you know if they have a car to get here?”

“Oooh yes, it’s so cool it’s like grandpapas, big and black.”

Enid and Wednesday looked at each other again in surprise.

“Is it a hearse Cedar?” Enid asked with a sigh. She knew what was coming next.

“I think so mommy”

Enid looked over at her wife and narrowed her eyes as she saw her wife with a stupid grin on her face, clearly aching for the last word.

“My my Cedar that IS interesting. I think we will get on just fine .”
