Work Text:
Blitz slowly cracked open his eyes, groaning as he rubbed them and sat up on the couch. He grabbed his phone that was previously thrown on the ground and checked the time. 8:43am, fuck he was late, but below the time was a notification from Stolas.
'God dammit,' Blitz sighed internally. 'What the fuck does he want now,' he opened the message, squinting a bit from the bright screen.
Stols, 7:26am: "Good morning, Blitz. I would like to see you this full moon. I have something very important to discuss with you. Please, do not worry. This is not me cutting you off from the human realm. I simply need to speak with you about something that I have been working through for quite some time. Thank you, and I will see you when you arrive."
Blitz stared at his phone, reading and rereading the message over and over again. He typed out a quick "K" before shutting the screen off and laying back.
'Did I do something wrong? What made him want to talk? Is it because I haven't fucked him in 3 months? Fuck, what do I do?,' his mind raced a mile a minute.
He hated to admit it, but the bird had grown on him a bit. Not that he would ever tell him. There was no way a demon prince could ever love someone like him. Blitz huffed a breath and stood to start getting ready for his day. He was a bit late getting up after waking up late and having a mini crisis over Stolas, but nothing could start until he got there so it didn't matter much to him. He needed to get his mind off of it before he crumbled in anxiety.

Killing helped. Blitz finally was able to focus on something other than Stolas. He could tell that Millie and Moxxie noticed that he was a bit off beat today, but it was nothing they couldn't handle. He knows he does his job well and nothing could stop him from doing so. He only had a week to mentally prepare himself for whatever conversation Stolas wanted to have.
As the week progressed, Blitz got more and more restless. He took on more jobs than he realistically could handle just to avoid having to think about the full moon. He knew what was coming, even if Stolas said not to worry. What else could he possibly be referring to? Of course he was unhappy with his end of the bargain. Blitz had been basically using the book for free for months now. Something had shifted in their relationship ever since that awful night at Ozzie's. Though he and Fizz were cool now, the humiliation he faced while Stolas hid behind his menu still scars him along with all the other bullshit in his fucked up life.
A string of knocks on Blitz’s office door pulled him out of his thoughts. The door opened to show Millie with a slight worried look on her face. She walked in and closed the door behind her, making her way to a chair in front of his desk and planting herself in it.
“Hey B, you doin’ okay?” Millie asked softly, her head tilting a bit.
“Uh, yeah? Why?”
“Well, ever since a few days ago when y’ came in late, you've been actin’ a bit.. funny.”
“The fuck does that mean?”
“It means we're worried about you. You're throwin’ yourself into jobs so much that we can't keep up, you don't want to talk about anything other than work, y’ come in early and stay late-”
“Is there something wrong with me wanting to do my fucking job?"
“ ‘Course not, but-”
“But nothing, Millie. There's nothing going on, nothing is wrong, so hop off my ass for five fucking seconds.”
“Blitz, we're not just your employees. We're your friends, too. You can talk to us if somethin’ is wrong.” Blitz paused for a moment. He stared at Millie, trying to look for some form of deception that he knew he wouldn't find. She wasn’t like anyone else he'd met. She was the toughest, most compassionate, and honest imp he'd ever met. He knew she would never do him wrong on purpose. He let out a sigh and looked down at his hands, then to the wall.
“It's complicated,” he muttered. Millie offered him a soft smile.
“You can tell me anythin’, B.”
“So uh, Stolas texted me a few days ago. Wants to see me on the full moon. It wouldn't be that big of a deal, ‘cept he said he wanted to talk instead of our normal thing. He said not to worry about it, but that's literally all I'm fucking capable of doing, and after 3 months of not seeing him-”
“Hold on, it's been 3 months since you saw him??” Millie looked bewildered, and Blitz honestly couldn't blame her.
“Hah, yeah. Kept giving me excuses not to see him. It's whatever. It's his night so if he doesn't want to, y’know, spend it with an imp then he doesn't have to. I’m not gonna hold it against him for having better things to do..” he trailed off. Lucifer, he was being so pathetic right now.
“But you wanna see him, right?” Millie questioned. Blitz went quiet. A silent acknowledgement. Yeah, he wanted to see Stolas. So what? He may annoy the shit out of him, but he was an amazing fuck and maybe he isnt annoying all the time. He knew that pompous rich asshole was only toying with him, but he looked damn good doing so.
“So.. why don't y’ tell him that?” Millie continued.
“It's not that easy, Mills. This deal we have is supposed to benefit both of us. I can't help it if he doesn't want his side of it. I still have the book, we can still do our job, it's fine.” It's really not that he doesn't want to be around Stolas, but that doesn't change that he wants him for the novelty sex. Blitz can handle being a novelty; he doesn't really have any problem with their deal. He's content.
“I have a feeling this talk probably ain't exactly what you think it's gonna be. Blitz, I’ve seen the way y’all interact with each other. Honestly, I think that bird’s got it pretty bad for you. An’ I think deep down, you do too,” Millie reached across the desk to bring Blitz’s hand into her own with a sweet smile. Damn her and her weird way of making him feel better. Blitz returned her smile and patted her hand with his free one. He stood feeling much less anxious about everything. Maybe he was finally prepared.
-
Blitz was very much not prepared.
He saw that coming from a mile away. Even though Millie eased his worry in the moment, actually standing outside Stolas's palace about to climb up to his window had him reeling a bit. He just needed to swallow his anxiety and start climbing. Sure, his hands might've been a little sweaty so his grip wasn't the most secure, but that didn't stop him from making his way to the balcony.
Stolas was sitting on his bed, tapping his claws on the porcelain floor. He was obviously also in his own head about this, too. Blitz was a bit glad he wasn't the only one. Stolas looked up once he saw him climb over the balustrade and straightened his back a bit.
“Oh, hello Blitz. It's been.. quite a while, hasn't it?”
“Uh, yeah. So, um, what was it you wanted to talk about?” Blitz walked over to the bed and sat next to Stolas, pulling a leg up for him to hold. Stolas took in a breath and turned his full attention to the imp.
“I wanted to speak with you about our deal. I went to Asmodeus not too long after the night we went to his club. I requested an Asmodean crystal from him that I intend to give you,” Stolas stood and walked to his bookshelf, pulling a mid-sized box off one of the shelves and bringing it back to the bed where Blitz completely looked like he was about to throw up.
‘Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck, he's calling off the deal. He's leaving me behind. Of course he is. Why the fuck wouldn't he leave after all the shit that's happened-’ Stolas cut off his thoughts and began speaking again.
“I realize I haven't been the kindest to you. This transactional thing we had, it wasn't right. It never has been. I am giving you this because you mean so much to me. I want to get to know you properly. I want you to stay with me because you want to. You have every right to go your own way, but please know that you have changed my life so exponentially that the only thing I can give you in return is this. I must request my book back, but in turn you will receive the opportunity to traverse the human world safely and legally, without breaking demon law.” Stolas took Blitz’s hand and placed the crystal in his glove. It glowed while adhering itself into the fabric. Blitz looked at it, then up at Stolas.
“Changed your life? What do you mean I changed your life? What- what in hell are you talking about??” Blitz couldn't understand how he could change a demon prince’s life. Shouldn't he have anything and everything he ever wanted?
“Well, I suppose I haven't been completely upfront with my life with you. My.. ex-wife, Stella, hasn't been the kindest to me. I learned we were engaged the day you and I met, actually,” Stolas smiled at the memory of the two of them, then soured before continuing.
“My daughter was born out of obligation, but she is the best thing to come out of my marriage. If Octavia hadn't been born, I’m honestly unsure what would have become of me. I never loved Stella, really I’m unclear if she is even capable of love. I have suffered years of insults and bruises so my daughter could have a normal life. Everything felt so grey, with Octavia being the only pop of color for miles,” he pauses, taking a moment to analyze Blitz's face for anything negative. He just looked confused, mostly. He didn't know what to say. All this was happening the entire time? Stolas cleared his throat and started to speak again.
“Then when I saw you again after so long of being alone, it was like color had exploded all around me. When we slept together for the first time, it was as if a switch flipped in my brain. For the first time I felt like I had the opportunity to choose what I wanted to do with my life. You taught me that I could write my own path; to stray from what was written in the stars.” Stolas took Blitz’s other hand, offering a smile to counter the imp’s shock.
“I want to learn from you. Tell me what I’ve been doing wrong in this relationship, and trust it will be fixed. Please give me this opportunity. You don't have to decide today. I am simply asking you to consider everything I have told you and give me your answer when the time is right for you.”
Blitz’s mouth straightened into a line. ‘What the fuck just happened. Where did this even come from??’
“Look, Stolas, I get what you're saying, but this is a lot. Too much for me to figure out right now,” he broke eye contact to look at their joined hands. “This entire time, I thought you were just interested in me because I’m an imp. I mean, you’re a fucking prince. Why would you ever want to be with me?” Stolas let go of his hand to bring it to Blitz's chin, lifting his head to look at him again. He looked pained, yet a smile was still on his face.
“Darling, you are the bravest, funniest, most caring imp I’ve ever met. How could I not want to be with you?”
“I just- I need some time. I’m not saying no, but my entire grasp on our whole thing has been completely lost. This feels like out of nowhere to me,”
“I completely understand, Blitz. If you're interested, I have some fine whiskey for us to share. I would love to sit and genuinely get to know each other. Only if you're up to it, of course.” Blitz went quiet, going over his options. He wouldn't be opposed to some whiskey. He finally returned Stolas's smile.
“Yeah, sounds good.”
