Chapter Text

Piper POV

You will leave these bodies,” Piper repeated, even more forcefully.

Jason’s face tightened. His forehead was beaded with sweat. “We-we will leave these bodies.”

“You will vow on the River Styx never to return to this ship,” Piper continued, “and never to possess any member of this crew.”
Leo and Percy both hissed in protest.
“You will promise on the River Styx,” Piper insisted.

Piper could feel their wills fighting against hers. Then the eidolons spoke in unison: “We promise on the River Styx”

“You are dead,” Piper said.
“We are dead,” they agreed.
“Now, leave.”

All three boys slumped forward. Percy fell face first into his pizza.
“Percy!” Annabeth grabbed him.

Piper and Hazel caught Jason’s arms as he slipped out of his chair.

Leo wasn’t so lucky. He fell toward Frank, who made no attempt to intercept him. Leo hit the floor.

“Ow!” he groaned.
“Are you all right?” Hazel asked.

Leo pulled himself up. He had a piece of spaghetti in the shape of a 3 stuck to his forehead. “Did it work?”

Piper looked around. She felt pretty confident that she had gotten rid of the eidolons, but at the same time she had a nagging feeling in her gut that she hadn’t done enough to get the eidolons out.

“It worked,” Piper said, feeling mostly sure that she was right. “I don’t think monsters can break promises made on the River Styx.”

Jason blinked. “Does that mean I can stop getting head injuries now?”
Piper laughed, exhaling all her nervousness and doubts. “Come on, Lightning Boy. Let’s get you some fresh air.”

After Jason and Piper left, Percy stood up. “I’m going to my room, I’m really tired,” he said before getting up and starting to walk away.

“Ok, I love you Seaweed Brain,” Annabeth said.
Percy looked back and stuttered “I-I love you too, Annabeth,” before walking away.

Annabeth looks at Frank, Hazel and Leo before speaking up, “Did you notice that? He stuttered. He never stutters. And he didn’t even call me Wise Girl, he called me Annabeth!”

Frank and Hazel look at each other before looking back at Annabeth.

Hazel was the first one to speak up. “Annabeth, it was probably just an accident. He was just possessed by an eidolon, and was probably shaken up about the whole situation.”

“She’s right Annabeth.” Leo spoke up. “As a person who was just possessed by an eidolon, it takes a lot out of you. He was probably just tired. Trust me.”

Annabeth sighed. “Maybe you’re right, I’m probably just over reacting. I’m going to bed, goodnight.”

Percy POV

Percy didn’t remember when he went to sleep, but he kept having nightmares. They started out as normal dreams. His first one had him and Annabeth in it. He missed her so much when he was at Camp Jupiter. He missed her princess curls, and the way her hair smelled like lemons. He missed her laugh and her smile. But most of all, he missed her eyes.

“I’m really happy you’re back, I missed you so much.” Annabeth piped up.
“I missed you too Annabeth,” Percy said before kissing her check.

“Percy, I just want to say that I thought that you planning out our future, and talking about New Rome was really sweet. And I wanted to let you know that I” Annabeth said before she got cut off by a gasp. She fell down on the ground and started shaking.

Percy started panicking and rambling, “Annabeth, what happened, are you ok, what’s going on, I’ll get you some ambrosia, that’ll fix everything, I just need to find it.”

“Percy,” Annabeth choked out before groaning in pain. “my stomach.” Sure enough, when Percy looked down, he saw Riptide impaled in her stomach.

“How could you do this to me Percy, I…I thought you loved me,” Annabeth croaked out.
Percy’s eyes began to water. “Wise Girl, I do love you, I swear, I don’t know how this happened to you but I’ll fix it.”

“How will you live with yourself knowing you just stabbed your best friend and girlfriend. You’re even worse than Luke.” Annabeth said before taking her final breath.

Percy looked down at his hands. They were shaking and covered in blood. He was a monster who killed his girlfriend. He doesn’t deserve sympathy or kindness. He wished that he was the one to die instead of Annabeth.

Chapter Text

Hazel POV

Hazel thought that Annabeth was overreacting about Percy, but after breakfast, she was willing to change her opinion. Mostly everyone was eating, except that Percy and Annabeth were still asleep. A little while later, Percy walked in. He had bags under his eyes and looked like he hadn’t slept in weeks.

Leo looked up from his pancakes. “Hey Aquaman, are you good? You look even more tired than usual. I can see your wrinkles coming in.” He smiled to himself before looking up at Percy, who was glaring straight at him.

“Leo, I’m not in the mood today. I didn’t sleep well so can you just leave me alone?” Percy spoke.

“Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. What, he’s just mad that he didn’t get his beauty sleep.” Leo said with a grin on his face

“Leo, drop it.” Percy said, the storm clouds brewing in his sea green eyes.

Leo continued. “I’m just saying that some of us don’t get sleep either and you don’t see us complaining about it.”

Everyone at the table looked around at each other. Piper and Jason looked at Leo with pleading eyes, begging him to stop. Hazel gave Frank a knowing glance. They had gone on a quest with Percy before and they knew that sleep deprived Percy is not a nice person, but Hazel didn’t expect it to escalate so quickly.

Percy looked up at Jason and asked, “Can you pass me the butter?” Jason passed Percy the butter tray. Percy gripped the butter knife and chucked it at the wall. It sticks to the wall and everyone gasped.

“Leo, that’s what’s gonna happen to you if you don’t shut up and get off my back. Now, I’m going back up to my room and nobody better bother me, ok?” He got up and left the dining room.

Everyone looked around at each other before Hazel spoke up. “Ok, what was that? I get that Percy is tired, but that was extreme. He threatened Leo’s life! That’s not normal! Once Annabeth gets down here, someone’s going to need to explain what just happened. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s not normal for Percy or anyone! Maybe this is just some 21 century stuff, but I thought that I had learned lots of behavioral patterns and that wasn’t one of them.”

Just then Annabeth walked in. “Hey guys, what’s up? Has Percy come down yet?”

Everyone looked at each other before Piper pointed at the knife in the wall. “That was the result of an argument that Percy and Leo got into this morning. I guess Percy didn’t sleep well and Leo was bugging him, so he snapped and threw the knife into the wall and threatened Leo”

Annabeth started to walk back upstairs. “I’m going to go check on Percy, that doesn’t sound like him.”

Annabeth POV

“Percy,” Annabeth knocked on his door. “Are you in there? Can I come in?” She thought she heard a groan, but then Percy unlocked his door before sitting back in his bed.

“Percy, what’s wrong? Piper told me you snapped at breakfast. Are you ok?”

Percy looked up at her, his sea eyes surprisingly dull. “I know it was wrong of me, but I’ve been having nightmares ever since I got my memory back and they were really bad last night.”

“Oh baby, I’m so sorry. I’ll go tell the others it been rough for you ok? I love you Percy.” Percy nodded back before closing his eyes and falling asleep. Annabeth kissed his forehead before leaving his room.

Annabeth walked downstairs and went into the dining room. “So,” Piper asked, “Why was he so angry?” Annabeth sighed. “He’s been having some really bad dreams since he got his memory’s back, so he was really tired.”

Piper sighed with relief. “Ok good, we just wanted to make sure he’s ok.” Annabeth nodded before going back to her room and reading.

Percy POV

Percy thought his nightmare couldn’t get any worse, but it did. His mind wandered back to when he was 5 and still living with Smelly Gabe. The smell of alcohol lingering around the apartment. Gabe’s pig like eyes landed on Percy.

“Hey kid, fetch me a beer.” Percy shook his head. “Mommy said I’m not allowed to touch your drinks.”

Gabe rolled his eyes and sneered. “I don’t give a fuck about what your bitch of a mother said, go get me a drink.” Percy went to the fridge to go get Gabe a drink, but once he had it, he tripped over an empty beer bottle and spilled the beer all over the floor. Gabe got up and stormed over.

“You little shit! I told you to get me a beer and you didn’t listen. Now you have to be punished.” Gabe grabbed Percy by the hair and dragged him to a closet. He picked him up and threw him into the closet and locked the door

“No food for a week, and no water for 2 days.” Percy started crying. He saw a piece of broken glass stuck in his foot from the beer bottle. He picked it up and started cutting himself. He didn’t want to live anymore.

Leo POV

Leo woke up in the middle of the night to hear footsteps in the halls. He decided to go check it out. He stepped outside of his room and saw a
dark figure going towards the engine room. He followed the figure to see Percy sneaking around and messing with the controls.

“Aquaman, what are you doing?” Leo asked. Leo swore Percy froze for a second, before he kept messing around with the controls. Leo walked up to Percy to get him to stop, when he noticed his eyes were closed. Percy started to mumble incoherently and walked around the room.

“Percy, are you sleep walking?” Leo shook Percy’s shoulders. “Dude, wake up!” Percy’s eyes fluttered open. “Huh Leo, what are you doing here? And what am I doing here?”

Leo started laughing. “Dude, you sleepwalked into here. You really don’t remember?” Percy smiled. “I don't remember anything after I fell asleep.”

“I’m just glad you were asleep when you came in, I thought you were messing with the controls on purpose.” Leo said with a smile.

“Ha ha ha yea, that’s funny. Anyways I’m gonna go to bed now bye Leo.” Percy said, rushing out the door. After he left, Leo started fixing the controls.

Jason POV

(24 HOURS LATER)

Jason was in the shower when the water stopped and the pipe exploded. He put his clothes on and ran downstairs to check on the pipes, only for him to see Percy already down there.

“Percy, hey, thank goodness you’re down here. The pipes just broke upstairs.” Jason stated. “What are you doing down here?”

Percy tensed before relaxing and saying, “I came down here because…I heard the pipes burst so I came down to fix it.”

Jason smiled. “Awesome, thanks man.” Jason heard a groan from Percy, but he remembered what Annabeth said at breakfast, so he thought he was just tired.

Chapter Text

Leo POV (24 HOURS LATER)

Leo swore he heard someone thumping again during the night, but he chalked it up to him imagining things. When he got up to go eat breakfast, everyone was at the table and Percy was looking a lot happier, but his eyes were still dull. Everyone was laughing and having fun and everyone was acting like a group of friends. The awkwardness from their first meeting was gone. Leo was talking to Hazel when he heard a thud. Leo tensed.

“What was that? Did that come from the engine room? I’m gonna go down and check.” Leo ran downstairs, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw him smirk. But Leo ignored it. After a while, he ran back upstairs.

“Guys I have some bad news, the engine completely broke down. We’re gonna have to stop on a nearby island to get supplies to fix it.” Leo steered the Argo II onto a nearby island.

“Ok everybody, let’s split up.” Jason said. “I’ll go with Piper, Percy, you can go with Annabeth, and Frank, Leo and Hazel, you guys go together. Leo, you find materials, Piper and I will scout the area, and Percy and Annabeth, you guys see if there’s a good place to set up camp for the night. We don’t know how long we’ll be down here. Once your done, meet back here at the Argo”

Annabeth POV

Annabeth was worried about Percy, but he seemed to be doing a lot better. She missed him so much when he was at Camp Jupiter. He took her hand and squeezed it tight.

“Come on, I think I see a good place to set up camp, let’s go.” Percy said. Annabeth followed him, but noticed they were getting farther away from where all their friends were.

“Percy, baby, we’re getting farther away everyone. Are you sure we’re going the right way?” Annabeth asked.

“We’re going the right way, Annabeth just drop it!” Percy said angrily. He squeezed her hand tighter, not letting her go.

Annabeth seemed nervous. “Are you sure, you’re leading me farther and farther away and I don’t see a good place to set up camp.”

Percy looked back at Annabeth, his eyes looking more golden in the light. “Annabeth, just drop it! We’re going the right way!” Percy yelled at her. “Look, we’re here.”

Annabeth looked around. There was a clearing, but not a big enough clearing to set up camp.

“Percy, this isn’t big enough to set up camp, let’s get out of…here. Percy, what are you doing?” Annabeth turned around to see Percy pointing his sword at her neck. He was smirking and still holding onto her wrist so she couldn’t escape.

“Percy, put your sword down, this isn’t funny!” Annabeth said.

“You think I’m trying to kill you? No, I’m just trying to knock you out.” Percy grinned.

“What are you talking about, what are you do..” Before she could finish, Percy smacked the hilt of his sword against her head, knocking Annabeth out cold.

6 HOURS LATER

Jason POV

Jason and Piper came back to the Argo II, where Frank, Leo, and Hazel were. They all looked around. “Has anyone seen Percy or Annabeth? I haven’t seen them at all since we all split up. We saw you guys once, did you see them?” Hazel asked. Jason shook his head.

Jason turned to everyone, “I don’t know where they went, but I think something’s wrong with Percy. He’s just been…different. They way he threw the knife at the wall, and his attitude changed.” Leo started laughing. “Speaking of Percy, did you know he sleepwalks? I caught him sleepwalking into the control room, and in his sleep, he started messing with the controls.”

Hazel and Frank looked at each other before speaking up. “He’s never sleepwalked before. Even when he was really tired on our quest, he never sleepwalked.” Jason spoke up. “Yea I caught him downstairs with the plumbing after the water stoped the other day, he started to fix the pipes, but I swore that he wasn’t fixing the pipes when I got down there.”

Piper looked around. “Are you thinking what I’m thinking? It’s no coincidence that Leo caught Percy messing with the controls, and Jason caught him messing with the plumbing, and suddenly our engine breaks down? Maybe he’s been trying to sabotage us the whole time. And if he is, then he could be putting Annabeth in danger. We need to go find them!” Everyone ran off together to go look for Percy and Annabeth.

Annabeth POV

Annabeth woke up to find herself tied to a tree and Percy sharpening his sword. “Percy, why are you doing this? I thought you loved me.” Percy laughed, his eyes looking more golden by the minute. “My original plan was to give you up to Gaia, but plans change. I’ll make this quick, for Percy’s sake.” He said with a wicked grin. He lunged forward and tried to stab Annabeth in her stomach, but her hand got free and she pushed his arm away, redirecting his sword into his shoulder. Annabeth screamed in pain, the sword red with her blood.

“Way to make this harder for yourself.” Percy smiled. “I can’t wait to see what your little friends reactions will be when they see your mangled body.” Just as he was about to stab her stomach, Jason ran up and shoved him out of the way.

Percy POV

Something about this nightmare felt different. Annabeth and him were walking on an island when he cornered her and knocked her out. When she woke up, she was asking him why he would do such a thing. But when he tried to talk to her, the words he wanted to say didn’t come out of his mouth. He said something completely different. He started talking about killing Annabeth. It was almost like someone was…controlling him. He started putting the pieces together. Did Piper really get the eidolon out of his body? Percy didn’t remember anything afterwards, so the eidolon could have been torturing Percy in his own mind. Which means that…this was real. Annabeth was tied to a tree, he did threaten her and he was about to kill her! Just then, Percy’s body went to stab Annabeth in her gut, she shoved his arm out of the way, but he stabbed her shoulder instead. Annabeth screamed, and Percy wanted to cry. He was hurting the love of his life, and he couldn’t do anything about it. He tried to get his body to stop, but it wouldn’t listen. He started crying, but he knew that the eidolon wouldn’t let it show, so no one knew that he was being possessed yet. He was just about to stab Annabeth again, when everything went black.

Jason POV

Everyone was walking around the island when they heard a scream. Jason tensed. “Was that Annabeth? I heard it from over there! We need to hurry!”

They all started running when they saw Annabeth tied to a tree, her shoulder stabbed and bloody, with Percy holding his sword next to her. Everyone ducked down into some bushes before Piper gasped. “There’s Percy! He’s the one who stabbed her! I can’t believe it!” Jason spoke next.

“He’s about to stab her again! I have to stop him.” Jason ran up and shoved Percy out of the way before taking his own sword and cutting Annabeth free. Everyone came out from the bushes. “Percy, you have some explaining to do.” Jason said.

Chapter Text

Jason POV

“You have some explaining to do.” Jason said. “Why would you stab Annabeth! And sabotaging our ship just so we would crash, newsflash, that isn’t normal. Let’s be real, we all know something is up!” Percy started laughing.

“Oh, you guys are really oblivious. I didn’t know how easy you guys would be to fool.” Piper spoke up. “What do you mean fool us? What are you hiding?” Percy started laughing again, even harder this time, the green in his eyes disappearing and turning solid gold.

“You really thought that Percy was the one doing this? No, it was me the whole time. The real Percy has been trapped living in a nightmare for the past couple of days. He was really freaking out when he saw me stab his little girlfriend.”

Hazel gasped before looking at everyone. “Percy’s still being possessed by an eidolon.” Hazel turned towards Percy. “That’s why your eyes are gold, and why you tried to sabotage the ship, and why you stabbed Annabeth.”

Percy smirked. “So you finally figured it out.” Annabeth spoke up, her voice laced with pain. “What do you mean that Percy’s living a nightmare?” The eidolon grinned. “I got help from Gaia to put his conscience to rest. He thinks he’s been sleeping the whole time, and having some pretty terrible nightmares. Except for when I made him watch me stab you, Annabeth. He was freaking out. He started crying and begging his body to stop. But, he’s out cold now. Any realization he had that he was possessed has been wiped from his memory.”

Jason stepped forward in front of Piper. “Let him free eidolon, this isn’t your body.” Jason nudged Piper behind him and handed her some ambrosia and nectar to give to Annabeth.

The eidolon smirked. “See, that was originally the plan. Gaia wanted me to sacrifice Annabeth and the Percy to bring her back. But, while Annabeth was passed out, I conferred with Gaia, and she agreed that it would be better if I could keep this body. So my new targets are you, and your girlfriend, Grace.”

Piper stood up. “How did you resist my charmspeak? All of your brothers did.” The eidolon smirked again. “Before I possessed your friends, Gaia wanted to make sure that one of us would stay inside of your friends, so she trained me to be stronger than my brothers. I just mouthed along the words with my brothers.”

Frank spoke up next. “We’re not afraid of you. We can beat you in a fight any day.” The eidolon started laughing. “You aren’t serious right. I would have killed your friend, if I didn’t get shoved. I have all of Percy’s powers at my disposal, and my own abilities. There is no way that any of you can beat me. I could take on all of you and still win.”

Percy POV

Percy swore he was really distressed about something, but he forgot. He was still having really bad nightmares. His last one was really bad, he ended up stabbing Annabeth, and tying her up to a tree. But now his mind was going back to his fallen friends. He was starting into Luke’s cold, dead eyes. He saw Zoe, Silena, Beckendorf, Bianca, and so many more. He heard the voice of Nico Di Angelo.

“Bianca died because of you! I wish you died instead of her! You said that you would protect her but you lied!”

“He saw himself handing Luke Annabeth’s knife. He stared directly into Percy’s eyes.

“Even though I joined Kronos, you’re worse than me. You killed Silena, you knew the drakon would be there. Look at you! Look at all the damage you’ve done. This war is because you wouldn’t join our side. I hope you’re happy with your life. Everyone is dead because of you.”

Percy started crying. He didn’t mean to hurt anyone, but he’s too much of a burden. He thought back to Zoe, how he died and he didn’t do anything, how Beckendorf trusted him and he failed to protect the one person he cared about. He’s too much of a burden for anyone to really care about him.

Annabeth POV

Annabeth’s day had been pretty weird so far. Her boyfriend knocked her out, tied her to a tree, tried to sacrifice her, and then just decided to kill her instead. Then she found out he was possessed the whole time, so she’s going through it mentally. Just then, the eidolon spoke up.

“Well, this has been fun. But, Gaia’s getting impatient, so I’m gonna need your friends to come with me or things will get messy.”

Leo stepped forward. “Yea, things are gonna get messy for you, C’mon guys let’s kill this guy once and for all!” Everyone pulled out their weapons, but before they could even attack, a giant wave came up and trapped them. The wave morphed into a mini hurricane with the seven inside of it. The hurricane got bigger and bigger until the eidolon let them go.

“I told you I could beat you in a fight, so don’t try me. But, because you guys are so persistent, if I keep fighting you, little old Percy will have used up too much of his powers and burn up. But, their is one way I will willingly leave your friend and stop possessing him.”

Chapter Text

Jason POV

Everyone looked around at each other before Jason spoke up. “Alright, what will it take for you to leave Percy alone?”

The eidolon laughed. “Gaia and I consulted and we have come up with 1 term. I get to take you and your girlfriend to Gaia right now.”

Leo started laughing. “I’m sorry but why would they agree to that? Are you stupid or just slow?” Everyone looked at Leo in disbelief. He was antagonizing the eidolon on purpose! But Leo gave a thumbs up behind his back and Jason realized he was distracting the eidolon while they came up with a plan.

Jason leaned over to Piper and started whispering. “You’re going to have to try to charmspeak him. I know that he’s stronger but you need to try. I believe in you.” He gave her an encouraging nudge and Piper stepped forward, and Leo stepped back.

“Eidolon, I know that Gaia wants Jason and I to go with you, and I know that you want to listen to her, but she’s lying. Once we go to her she’s not going to actually let you stay in that body, she’s going to use Percy for her own selfish reasons. She’ll just discard you like the rest of your broken toys. Just let Percy go and then you can save yourself the pain. I know she’s probably promised you things but there all lies. Just trust me and leave Percy’s body”

The eidolon started shaking and stuttering. “I-I wi-ill leave this…No no, Gaia needs Percy, I need to fight this. Your smooth talking won’t fool me.”

Piper sighed before continuing. “Eidolon you will leave this body and never come back. Leave his body, leave his body, leave his body.”

The eidolons eyes glazed over, looking like a pool of melted gold, but now there was a bright sea green starting to show. It tried to keep fighting, but Piper’s constant charmspeak eventually made him surrender. “I will leave this body and never come back, but I get to do one last thing.” Before Piper could object, the eidolon tapped his forehead. “One last memory, and now my last gift” Piper started speaking. “Wait, stop this right now…” But she was too late, and the eidolon took Riptide and shoved it in Percy’s stomach and twisted. He left after that, and Percy fell to the ground, blood pooling all around him.

Jason rushed forward and grabbed Percy, his hands getting stained with his blood. “I’m going to fly him up to the medbay, who wants to come with me?” Annabeth stepped forward, and Jason took her and Percy into the Argo.

Percy POV

Percy opened his eyes and saw a beautiful island with lots of greenery. “No no no no no no I can’t be back here, I left, I escaped and I’m safe. I can’t go back please.” He started crying and took in a shaky breath. Suddenly a figure emerged from the shadows, and Percy stiffened when he saw her. “Percy, you came back, I knew you would! Let’s go have some fun!”

He shook his head. “Calypso please, I’m happy now, I don’t want this, let me go please let me go.” He started crying even harder. She smiled her shark like grin. “Oh sweetie, it’s funny how you think you have a choice.” She grabbed his wrist and dragged him towards her cave.

The rest of the night was a blur. He could never forget those touches. His skin felt permanently burned with her hands. “I went through this once I can do it again.”

The next morning Calypso made him breakfast. “I made this especially for you sweetie, eat up.” Percy picked at his plate before taking a couple bites and setting his plate down. His head felt dizzy and it was getting harder to focus. “I’m not…hungry…what did you put in this-“ His train of thought stopped suddenly, and his speech got more slurred.

Calypso took his hand. “Now you won’t fight me on this, come on.” She dragged him back to the cave, but Percy didn’t fight her. “Such a shame I had to go this far, but for you I’ll make the extra effort.” Percy started to protest. “No stop, it not ok, don’t do-“ Percy slumped forward and passed out. Calypso’s eyes gleamed with a hunger. Now she could do whatever she wanted.

Annabeth POV

Well now all of Percy’s actions made sense. All of the weird behavior and actions finally clicked in her head. But right now, she needed to focus on Percy. He was bleeding out and there was nothing she could do until they got to the Argo. All of a sudden, he started twitching and flinching in his sleep. His mumbles is what really worried her. She heard him begging someone to stop, and she could only imagine what he was going through. Jason touched down on the Argo.

“I’m gonna go get the others, you help Percy.” He flew down and left Annabeth in the med bay with Percy. She gave him ambrosia and nectar, then bandaged his wounds. Now all she could do was wait for him to wake up.
