Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

“I. Need. A. Fucking. Job.” After each word Wei Ying hit his head against a wooden table.

“Then go and find one.” Suggested Nie Huaisang, who was sitting on the opposite side of the table and casually drinking an iced latte.

“Oh really?” Said Wei Ying sarcastically. “Why didn’t I think about it earlier?”

“See? What would you do without me?”

“Nie Huaisang.” Wei Ying looked at him sceptically. “I did try to find a job.”

Of course he tried. He spent the last few weeks searching everywhere and sending his resume to almost every possible place, but no one wanted to hire him. He rarely got any response from potential employers and if someone decided to invite him for an interview, they never called back after. Wei Ying couldn’t figure out what could be the reason and he started to think that some God just really hates him and is playing pranks on him.

“Try harder?” Nie Huaisang raised one eyebrow. “I really don’t know how to help you.”

“Your brother doesn’t need anyone in his company?”

“I already told you, he doesn’t.” Nie Huaisang rolled his eyes and put the tall glass with coffee on the table. “Listen, if you can’t handle living on your own, maybe you should call your family and ask for help.”

Wei Ying grimaced awfully. It would be like admitting his failure. If he actually came back after these few months and asked for help, his family of course would let him stay with them again, but his stepmother… Oh God, she would point this out in every possible situation. She would look at him triumphantly with her scary eyes and little smirk. Wei Ying couldn’t handle such humiliation.

“No.”

“Then let’s find a different plan.” Nie Huaisang sighed. “Maybe find yourself a sugar daddy.” He joked. “Or mommy, I dunno.”

Wei Ying just looked at him speechless.

“You would have soooo much money with so little effort.” Nie Huaisang continued while laughing. “Or better! Start selling your naked pictures, I bet some horny perverts would buy them in tons!”

It looked like Nie Huaisang had the time of his life, laughing and coming up with more and more scenarios. He even started crying at some point, so hard he was laughing.

“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself.” Wei Ying snapped. “I’m going home.”

He stood up abruptly, making the table shake. His friend looked at him with a faint smile on his face.

“Wei Ying, don’t be mad! It was just a joke!” Nie Huaisang screamed after him. “A joke, you hear?”

“Fuck you too.” Wei Ying mumbled to himself and left the cafe.

He didn’t live far away from there, but decided not to come home yet. Wei Ying wandered around without any particular goal. Except for meeting with Nie Huaisang he didn’t have any other plans and he really didn’t want to spend the rest of the day in his cluttered apartment. Maybe his friend was right and he should contact his family before he does something stupid. But he couldn’t force himself to take a phone and call anyone. It was his decision to leave the family house to try living on his own and his pride didn’t let him admit this was a bad choice.

When the sun had already set down, Wei Ying decided to go back home. It was late, his feet hurt from walking and he still was a bit annoyed after meeting Nie Huaisang. He unlocked the doors and entered the tiny apartment, full of clothes, dirty dishes and something that a few days ago was his dinner but since then had probably invented a wheel and started a new civilization.

Wei Ying lied down on the bed, thinking. There was really no job for him and he couldn’t even think about new options. His savings had almost disappeared and if he didn’t find a new source of money soon, he would really need to go back to his family. Or maybe he could start living under the bridge. Such an option really sounded better than talking with Madam Yu about coming back.

He once again thought about what Nie Huaisang suggested. Could he sell his naked pictures? Would anyone actually buy them? And where do you even do this?

Wei Ying hid his face in hands, feeling ashamed that he was even considering this option. What if somehow Jiang Cheng finds them? He wouldn’t cope with that, not to mention meeting his brother in person. No, there’s no way he would sell his naked pictures.

But maybe there’s another way to use that sexy ass? Wei Ying was greatly aware of his own values and since he found himself in this lose-lose situation, he had to find some solution.

Nie Huaisang mentioned one more thing. What was that? Finding a sugar daddy or mommy? That could do, probably. Wei Ying felt that that would be a bit safer option for him. It only included some… special treatment. Maybe he could try until he finds a real job. No one had to know, especially his family. Yeah. He could try that.

With his hands shaking, he reached for his phone. Feeling pity for himself, he tried to google some phrases that would help him find a sugar parent. Finally he ended up on a fishy looking website.

“Why is it all pink?” He asked himself. The color reminded him about the cotton candy his sister loved buying during festivals.

It looked a bit like websites offering normal jobs and he could be easily convinced that it was just a casual website if the color was more serious. And maybe if little stars didn’t appear anytime he clicked on something. And… oh God was it a “smooch” sound effect? Why?

Wei Ying wasn’t sure if the website was a real deal or maybe just someone created it as a prank and forgot about its existence. There was no way that a user with the nickname “iSmEllEdYOURtoES” would actually function on the Internet, right? He scrolled further, looking for something that wouldn’t make him feel like puking. He found all of the offers disgusting. Requirements like “little teeny tiny hole”, “smelly feet” or “only if you can drink 1 liter of milk in one sitting” scared him and Wei Ying literally saw how his faith in humanity was slowly evaporating. But the salary, though. He couldn’t just ignore such a huge amount. His bank account had never had so many zeros following a number which wasn’t a zero. If he really could earn so much…

His phone suddenly rang.

Wei Ying almost dropped it on his face from shock. He sat down abruptly, his heart pounding with a great power inside his chest. The number was unknown, so could it be…?

“Wei Ying here.” He said to the phone. He really hoped his voice wasn’t shaking due to excitement.

“Hello, my name’s Mary. I’m calling, because you left your resume in our shop, is that correct?” She sounded very young.

“Eeee, yes. Yes, it is correct.” Wei Ying swallowed nervously. He left so many resumes, that he had no idea which shop she was talking about. “Could you please remind me the name of the shop?” He asked.

“Ah yes, of course. I’m calling from Marks and Sam. Are you still interested in taking up a job in our place?”

“Yes. Yes, I am.” He tightened his grip on the phone. His hands started sweating a bit.

“That’s great, then!” Mary sounded overjoyed. “Would you be able to come here tomorrow at eleven in the morning?”

“That’s… Yes, I’ll be there.”

“Fantastic. Then, I’ll send you a confirmation in a minute. See you tomorrow!”

Before Wei Ying could answer, the girl hung up. A huge weight loaded off his mind. There was one more chance for him to get a normal job and he will succeed. He won’t need to actually get a sugar daddy, so bye bye fishy website!

~*~

The next day didn’t go as Wei Ying wanted. He didn’t oversleep and that was a huge advantage for him. He found some decent clothes, washed himself properly and even used that one cologne he got for his last birthday (it was one of the expensive ones and Wei Ying treasured it a lot). He really did everything to get the job.

He couldn’t understand why the following incidents happened to him. Wei Ying bought himself a small black coffee right after getting out of the bus, but didn’t manage to try it, because some guy bumped into him and the hot liquid ended up on Wei Ying’s chest. Cursing and jumping around he only made his hair look untidy again. He wanted to chase after the person who just stained his shirt, but couldn’t see him anywhere. Not long after, he realized that the fifty bucks he carried in the pocket magically disappeared. Great.

In the end he arrived at Marks and Sam twenty minutes late with a huge stain on his red shirt and with his hair springing around his head. He glanced at his reflection in the shop window and the only thing he could think about was a scarecrow. He looked ridiculous.

Wei Ying sighed, tried to at least whip his hair into the shape again and then, ready to take the interview and with positive thoughts only, took a step towards the glass doors, only to bump into the little kid.

The boy screamed in surprise and dropped a huge bottle of suspiciously looking yellow drink. Wei Ying could only observe with terror in his eyes how the bottle hit the ground and the liquid sprayed on his very own trousers. Yellow drops left awful stains on the cheap fabric.

“Are you okay?” Wei Ying asked the child, trying not to yell. How was he supposed to get a job now?

The boy’s mother rushed towards them and started to apologize to Wei Ying, but he didn’t listen. He could think only about how that day became worse and worse with every minute.

Before the mother and her child left, she tucked five dollars into his hand. Wei Ying looked at the note speechless. What was he supposed to do with that money? Get himself a new pair of trousers? Where? Or maybe try to survive another day? It wasn’t even enough for a meal.

He gritted his teeth angrily and hid the money inside his pocket. He would think later about what to do. Firstly, he still had an interview. Wei Ying took a deep breath and thought about his sister, always positive and always happy. This view calmed him down a bit. He could do this, he could get the job.

But well, he didn’t. The owner of the shop really tried not to grimace at Wei Ying’s view and tried even harder not to look nervous. He didn’t want to listen about Wei Ying’s experience (there was none) or didn’t even ask him about his availability (he was available anytime). After maybe five or ten minutes the owner stood up and told Wei Ying that he will of course call him back soon. And then he kindly showed Wei Ying the doors.

Wei Ying found the nearest park and sat down on a bench, hiding his face in hands. That was a disaster. It really looked like the whole world was against him. He just wanted to become independent, did he ask for too much?

Tears gathered in the corners of his eyes and he didn’t even try to hold them. He felt so miserable and useless. It’s been three months since he moved away and he couldn’t help but his positive thinking from the beginning disappeared. Of course he knew from the start that it’s not going to be easy. He was ready to work hard, ready to be constantly tired and ready to live modestly. But no one had prepared him to fail.

Wei Ying was shaking and crying, and didn't even care if anyone saw him. There was no end for his tears. He looked for a tissue, but apparently he didn’t have any. He felt again like he was in the orphanage and just got informed that another family refused to adopt him.

His phone rang. Wei Ying looked at it through tears and realized that it was his sister. Oh God, he really wanted to tell her everything, but he knew that she would ask him to come back home. He sniffed and since he didn’t have anything to wipe away his tears, he used his already stained shirt.

“Shijie?” He asked quietly.

“A-Xian!” Her voice sounded so happy. “I missed you, A-Xian.” She giggled. “How are you doing?”

“I’m… “ He refrained himself from telling the truth. “I’m fine.” He said instead.

“Really? You sound sad.”

“That’s because…” He sniffed again and looked around. “I just got rejected.” He lied, when he noticed some girls laughing on the other side of the path.

“Rejected?” She echoed. “A-Xian, you didn’t tell me there was a girl you like!” Jiang Yanli somehow sounded even happier. “Or was it a boy?”

“That’s…” He sighed. “Nevermind. I don’t wanna talk about it.” He mumbled. He dried more tears with his shirt, but they wouldn’t stop showing up.

“That’s fine. But remember, A-Xian, there are always other people who would love you, you know? Maybe they were just… not for you?” His shijie tried to comfort him. “You’re going to be okay, you know?”

“I know.” He swallowed a huge portion of phlegm that just appeared in his throat. “It will be fine.”

“Exactly.” Jiang Yanli said relieved. “And when you visit me, I will make lotus root soup for you.” She promised.

“Will you make it spicy?” He asked, smiling.

“Extra spicy. Just for you, A-Xian.”

Even more tears gathered in the corner of his eyes and he almost cried harder. She was too good for him. She shouldn’t be so good.

“Thank you, shijie.” He whispered.

“Don’t need to thank me.” He could imagine her smiling widely. “But tell me, how’s your situation with a job?”

“I…” His lips started shaking when deciding what to say. “I got a job.” He lied again.

“Really? A-Xian, I’m so happy for you!” She screamed in excitation to his ear. “Are they paying you enough? Don’t you need any extra help? Remember, you can tell your shijie everything.”

“They’re paying me enough.” He confirmed.

“That’s good, that’s good. Remember to visit us soon, okay? I really miss you, A-Xian.”

“I miss you too, shijie.” He smiled faintly. “I will visit you when I’ll have a few days off in a row, okay?”

“Sure. And remember, don’t overwork yourself.”

“I won’t.” He whispered.

“Take care, A-Xian.”

“You too, shijie.”

When she hung up, the new tears burst out from his eyes. Wei Ying curled up his knees and hugged them tightly, tucking his head in his arms. He already felt miserable, but now there was also a tug of guilt in the equation. He shouldn’t have lied to Jiang Yanli.

He had made a decision. Wei Ying took his phone and with his fingers shaking, he found that fishy website from the previous day again. The pink color was awful, the stars’ effect was even worse, but he had to do this. Wei Ying gritted his teeth and nervously started looking at the offers again. He agreed to sit on this bench until he found himself a sugar parent. Next time he wouldn’t need to lie to his sister about getting a job.

It felt like an hour or so. He dug up through thousands of offers and he almost lost his hope. Wei Ying didn’t have any high demands, he was just looking for someone a bit normal with no weird fetishes. There were no actual photos on the website and everyone was using made up nicknames, so he couldn’t determine how old the potential sugar parent would be, but he really wished for them to be no more than ten years older. And, God please, if he’s supposed to share the bed with someone, let them look at least decent.

His gaze suddenly lied on a weirdly looking offer. Unlike the others there were no emojis used and the sugar daddy didn’t have any profile picture. His nickname was also suspiciously normal.

2h@n8uN

About me: I’m a calm, rather silent man. I live alone and earn enough to support the two of us. I’m the pride owner of two bunnies.

What am I looking for?: You don’t need to have any experience, I will guide you and teach you everything you need to know to serve me well. I expect you to do everything I ask you to and to communicate if something is not to your liking.

What do I offer?: You surely will be pleased with our cooperation. I will treat you with respect and will solemnly honor your boundaries.

Notes: Please, do not fall in love with me.

Preferable gender: Any.

Payback: 5k/w, cash only

Wei Ying blinked a few times. This looked too normal, to be true. Compared with other offers where people were writing about how perverted they were and what they expected from potential sugar offspring that was… weird. The payment also didn’t look hefty, he already learned that there were others who would offer more. But five thousands wasn’t the amount he could easily find anywhere. And that sugar daddy… he sounded normal.

Wei Ying swallowed saliva and clicked on the contact button. His hands were suspiciously steady, his mind clear. He was going to do this.

Y1ngst3r: Hello! Is the offer still available?

The answer came back in a few seconds.

2h@n8uN: Good evening. Yes, the position is still open. Are you interested?

Y1ngst3r: Sure, I am. Do I need to send any information about myself or some pictures…?

2h@n8uN: This is unnecessary.

Wei Ying let the air out from his lungs. He didn’t even realize he was holding his breath until that moment.

2h@n8uN: What time are you available tomorrow?

Y1ngst3r: Anytime for you, daddy.

He cringed. He actually couldn’t believe he wrote this. Wei Ying was known for his weird humour, but he had never done something so obscene. But that was exactly what he was expected to do, right?

2h@n8uN: Please, refrain yourself from calling me that.

Y1ngst3r: Whatever you say. Where and when will we meet?

2h@n8uN: I will contact you in the evening and tell you the exact time and place.

~*~

Wei Ying was preparing himself for bed. He was brushing his teeth and moving his head into the rhythm of some rock song, when he suddenly heard a strange sound. He froze and looked around, searching for the source of it.

The sound appeared again, making Wei Ying feel uncomfortable. Still with the toothbrush in his mouth, he left the bathroom and turned off the music. He carefully looked around the apartment, but didn’t find anything unusual. Finally, he heard the sound for the third time.

Wei Ying realized that the sound he heard was that awful ‘smooch’ sound effect from the pink, fishy website. He dug up his phone from the pile of clothes and unlocked it. He got three new messages.

2h@n8uN: Meet me tomorrow at 6:30 in the afternoon in my apartment.

2h@n8uN: Bring your resume with you.

The last message was the address. If Wei Ying didn’t have his mouth full of toothpaste, he would probably nervously swallow. Instead, he slowly put down his phone and sat down on the bed.

“I think I just got myself a sugar daddy.” He said aloud.
