Chapter Text

My many many many character bio’s because I might as well. I wrote these earlier this year, and they’re full of my personal preferences in music, what I think is funny, and personal things I feel add depth and thematic value to the characters. Also straight up arc rewrites.

Very Important Framework: This is all tangentially related to my own OC’s and personal Lore doc. It’s not like, “This is my OC and they’re now the final villain of cororika.” 

More like, “This is Agent 8/No. 10010, she’s my attempt to integrate this character and couple more while keeping the ‘Canon’ of Splatoon (Like all the ambiguity with sanitation, etc.) and making things I like canon to this story, and filling in gaps.”

Like for example, I can get behind a lot of, “Mind control? Of course. Race war? True to life. Brazilian Manta-ray? Ok sure marine life.”

Only one big change is made, and that’s The Inklings/Setting of Splatoon is not 12,000 years, it’s closer to 2 million. Not because of the evolution, that’s weird science stuff that’s not the problem. The problem is the society. Blame my AP world history class but to form a society with complex social ideas of social media, social classes, racism, etc. in 12,000 is stupid and quite unrealistic (Blame my teacher). But there are important lore stuff to know: 

1. The hero arcs are canon (so along side my Agent 3, agent 4, and agent 8 OC’s. Octavio just stole the Great zapfish a couple more than just two times. Justified by agent work being intensive and there being a need for backup agents)

2. Coroika is canon (Excluding stuff like the water stuff in Alohas chapter, the clippers in gloves chapter, and other things that are anachronistic for comedy). Justified as it being like how K-pop and popular culture is covered. Talbots, Stands, drama, shipping, are all things that the cast are subjected to because of the popularity of the sport. I imagine that this is not the big guns, they just do it for fame, fun, and money. Compared to professional league Turf War (Egings dad) with teams, brand deals, and all the stuff that basketball players/culture do ( I don’t know why but I think of Turf War closely to basketball, maybe just because of clam blitz)

3. Rider and the Octo are closely related to Agent 8/my OC’s (I am currently writing/revising that fanfic and will be posted, but just to give an idea.) The fanfic goes into the fact that Tartar’s mind control makes sense to be closers to a hive mind, and that the camabo co still operates and continues the sanitation process. And how Agent 8 tries to destroy the hive mind but ends up becoming the controller bud to Tartars weaken state/fully dying. And the fact the octolings and Rider are apart of it due to evidence. And then meeting and discussing things with Agent 8 because this is dangerous. 

And so on, and so forth.

Team Backstory: Meeting in kindergarten, team blue has always been known as the idiots with big hearts. They hit puberty and signed up for the Corocoro Cup, Cue the events of Arc 1 but with the only changes being to the characters. Not accounting for the S4 and Team Lime; Goggles is know this Luffy type who is “stupid” but has a really great understanding of people's emotions, Headphones is a girl failure she can never win and is stuck with these buffoons but it’s really endearing, Specs is mostly the same, Bobble hat is this low-key crazy ‘Sassy lost child’ who brings edge into this soft group of people. The King Cup Arc: the focus is on Goggles and Bobble and their connection with the Inkopolis Square Council, seeing how they grow and understand more complex situations. Octo Arc: the gang gains trauma. Ranked Cup Arc: Due to the events of the Octo Arc Specs is taken out of commission but with the Glasses Gang is able to glow up and grow as a character. Headphones is now extra wary of the horrors of the world, she is able to find solace in the Snipe Gang and Rizzes up Skull. The rest of the arcs flip flop between focus until the Splatlands.

Backstory: When Afro was born, their parents thought the rest would turn out octo and decide to raise them underground, but when bamboo was born as an inkling it was complicated. Her mother took her to be raised on the surface leaving her husband and son underground. Unfortunately the clan hated her for being mixed, so they didn’t teach her to use a katana so she just uses a kind stick.

Backstory: two octoling lovers escape to the surface as they escape with the sacred art of potion making. Potions can be deadly poisons, strong hilusinagetics, or natural sleeping drugs, etc. they carve out a shaky life of selling the potions to those on a need to know basis while becoming citizens and having office jobs. They gather their ingredients from the forest where one day they find a tiny baby with a blanket stitched with the name Whitney on it. They raise her as their own, teaching her the potion making business and continuing the tradition.

Group backstory: army was born to a rich family who owned their own restaurant which nurtured his love of cooking, they sent him to a private Christian academy where a certain pastor taught. Forge and army became quick friends and began on their turf war journey where they began to assemble their team. White and blue lived on the same block and would always play after school together, they developed an interest in turf way and were recruited into team orange. They are not really a team, more like a family that loves but doesn’t respect each other. After arc 1, there’s a party where the not-S4 form and blue meets/falls in love/dates Designer headphones, etc.

Group backstory: Aloha and divers mothers were dear friends, so when Aloha's mom became pregnant with no father present and divers mother’s boyfriend had passed they moved together and became one big family. As they struggle to find 2 members, they end up paying out two girls to complete team pink who have no problem with acting like beach bimbos. Aloha and diver are like siblings, straw and Monroe see them as coworkers.

Backstory: Born to a single mother, mask was born with Hay Fever (bad allergic reaction to the world) and wore a medical mask. He was bullied for looking creepy and being a gamer, this made mask a hatter. He was good at turf war and chose similar people to make up his team. Although strangers at first, team cyan became a close knit troupe of like minded friends with similar interests.

Backstory: we don’t really know where Designers wealth comes from, just that he has it. His parents gave him the equivalent of a rich college dorm to live in the city. He rents it out and maintains a job as the Inkopolis square turf announcer.

Backstory: upper lower class, a live of isolation, when he left the house at 10 to go to a store, fell and got a nasty concussion, now has short term memory and had lots of amnesia; and plenty of existential crises through his short life

Backstory: an escape half inkling meets a baker in the countryside and falls in love. The only reminet of this past life is a large back tattoo that only her husband has seen. This developed Skull’s love of sweets, etc.

Expanding on the information I gave in the Intro, the torment cup’s are treaded like televised sports programs with a bunch of rumors and drama. So here’s my general rewrite:

So the turf war runners before the events of the arc needed to create more buzz for the minor turf league, so they decided to push 4 talented up and coming teams. Introducing The S4. (Also having the vintage and skull thing happens) 

The S4 were already on the raise but they were launched to popularity due to the magazines mentioning them advertising the Corocoro Cup. But they didn’t get along

Being 14 year old teenagers they were rude, mean, and ill prepared for being thrust into the spotlight. They bully each other and lash out due to the reputation they gain (Team Cyan being creepy, Team Pink being party animals) and the pressure that leads to.

Team Blue are still stupid as fans like Rider fight for the same status/recognition that the S4 have received. The general public agree with the Team Blue slander/see them as the underdogs (until they win every single cup)

Goggles dosn’t pants people as often, he still does it but I imagine that it’s at the beginning and end of an arc (First pantsing Rider, ten pantsing specs at the end of the arc.)

The main focus of this arc is mending the relationship between the S4 through team blue (Aloha getting a reality check, Army learning to loosen up, Mask learning that life is good actually, and skull getting out of the depression phase of a break up) and having a fun time.

Groupe Backstory: Nadia, Eging and Arthur all met in the same prestigious school and became close friends before meeting Hina in high school. They split up but are always close friends even having kids around the same time. N-pacer, Emperor, and Eging Jr were raised as close childhood friends but clearly not as close as their parents, but still they remained like this, not developing other friendships. N-pacer and Eging just went with what Emperor wanted because it was easier. When he said they’d be the greatest team, they let him. But being the “King” only made Emperor more paranoid and aware of his insecurities and gave him a horrible god complex to compensate. And they let him, and they took all his abuse and hate because it was easier than doing something. One Summer while training in the forest, Emperor met Gloves. They spent a lovely week together where Emperor opened up and let his Kingly mask off and showed this boy the real him. But once they left that forest, the king returned where he threw Gloves away like trash. Emperor’s actions light a fire of revenge in Gloves as he joined others who disliked how Emperor ran the Square (Inkopolis Square council) and decided to overthrow his rule through whatever means necessary. But with the S4 and team Blue’s arrival, this plan is complicated.

About 8-10 months later, there buzz of new exciting turf war found in Inkopolis Square. And the inklings here are VERY different. 

Emperor has been the raining champion four two years (there are 2 cups every year, hence 4) and has seemingly gone from a bright eyed newcomer, to a prideful narcissist with many people who’d kill to be the King of the Square. Because Emperors dad is an inventor he’s the first one to try out the duelies and meets a fresh Gloves. 

They spend two weeks together and get very close and share many things and just vide. It’s all good until Gloves faces him in the cup and Emperor goes, “Nothing personal kid, The Crown knows no mercy.”

This inspires Gloves to focus on taking him down, aligning him with the other teams. Inkfall wats Emperor gone because he feels that he’s messy and unfit to be running things, Stray is part of the up incoming counter culture who are against the Man, and Metry is very power hungry and is still the best choice for the spot. Making them The Splats Square Council.

Gloves goes to Inkopolis plaza to recruits people to shake up the tournament, but unfortunately he finds Team Blue. They do their thing and bring Team blue and all the others to the square. 

After Metry’s defat to Rider, she picks him to be her way in as the council lose and the Plaza cast advances.

This is Specs arc where is is the main protagonist with his team and conflict. The main crux is the relationship between Emperor, Gloves, and team Emperor. 

Gloves feeling of being angry and sad for the betrayal of Emperor and also having to face him. Eging and N-Pacer feeling resided because they are responsible for the creation of this monster but learn that it’s not their fault, it’s his fault. And Emperor going through hell because he regrets his choices but doesn’t know how to apologize/communicate that feeling healthily.

So … This is a lot, so strap in.

So prior to the events of October expansion, the octolings were surviving like most octolings do (Stealing, doing odd jobs, Killing for money). Just surviving instead of truly living. They decide to leave and then fall through the ground after being attacked by a lone Cuttlefish at a post into the facility. They lose their mommies and are split up. 

Hachi does his thing with Cuttlefish and Team blue, with a greater emphasis on his broken memories. He is toured by this phantom of a woman and these voices who speak to him in his dreams. He tries to find out more and drives him to protect team blue, gather all the mem cakes, etc. A

Candy Is let into a different part of the facility and meets some of the Deep-sea Dwellers and some failed test subjects and rejects that live in a junk pile, she focuses on protecting them from the horrible experiments that they are being used for. She escapes through the labs. 

Afro wanders through the bowls of the facility fighting reject sanitized creatures with a companion (Low key picture the wastes from Hollow knight). He escaped through the trash shots and meets up with Candy to escape with the raft. 

Nana is kept in a lab because she is a the ideal test subject to experiment on. Cue just like a bunch of torture and horrible phonological scars. She is used as a pawn to entice Hachi, and then has the rest of the arc as usual.

Emphasis on the dark and gritty side of the Deep sea metro. I imagine this Arc being very similar to Mouth-washing (The phycological horror and the peril) and Madoka  magica (The innocence being twisted and ruined, and the strength of love and hope) with maybe a dash of Made In The Abyss (Need to finish this one).

The main screen time is split between our 2 main protagonist, Emperor and Headphones.

Emperor is on his 9 to 5 arc, he grows and matures as a person learning humility and the importance of human connection. But he still doesn’t try to mend his relationship with his team and his brother. But baby steps.

Headphones learns to, “Stand proud, You’re strong.” And falls in love with Skull, keeping him close to the focus. 

Vintage and his team as well as New-Emperor are just doing terrible, As New-E continue their avoidance tendencies. And vintage is being super Emo.

Specs is out of commission and starts his training arc/Glow-up by the Glasses gang. 

Everything happens as normal except Vintage and Omega leave before they can celebrate Team Blue. Double Egg and Red Sole learn to chill out and celebrate with everyone.

Riddle me this: Big lights with confetti and food as the square celebrates the winners of the Ranked cup Arc, as team Blue walk out of Deca tower. Headphones leads them as she really was the main reason that they won and the first one to greet her is Skull. The others rush forward to celebrate as Skull takes Headphones to over see it on top of Sheldon’s shop. They smile and chat and say something corny like

”Thank you Skull, I couldn’t do it without you.”

”Thank you Headphones. You really helped me through this whole fiasco.” They laugh, she puts her head on his shoulder. They watch the celebration and then lean in for a kiss. 

And then intertwine it with Vintage just kissing it. Screaming and crying because he hasn’t learned what everyone else has this arc, the most important thing is to look forward.

The Forest Guardian arc is straight forward, so it’s cut up with the exploits of the others: 

Headphones is enjoying her boo, prince and Lace-less being Emo. Emperor and Vintage finding solace in each other, Eging and the boys vide out, N-Pacer hangs with Omega. Etc.

The final Splatfest Arc is spent on Fierce and Hivemind and their relationship. They were childhood friends/sweethearts who clearly want to be together after all this time. It’s just a fun time until the end where after Hivemind loses they do this thing,

”Well it seems you’ve still got it in you after all these years.”

”As to you dearest.”

”Don’t call me that.”

”I’ll call you whatever I want-“

”How dare you-“

They bicker and get closer and closer until they are right at each others faces and just start vigorously Making out, sealing the deal and becoming a couple.

The shadow arc becomes like the penultimate arc where our hero’s will be tested. 

A cruel reflection forcing the characters to confront their greatest flaws and make the hard decisions. For example:

Emperor will see the kind Cinnamon Roll that is Shadow Emperor who has a kind loving relationship with Shadow Vintage (opposite to the weird situation ship he has with vintage), and he’ll see poor Shadow Emperor being bullied by Shadow Prince and be inspired to try and mend their relationship. 

Goggles will become super self actualized realizing that he is the truly the opposite of pure evil (he’s stupid).

Headphones will feel bad about how Shadow Headphones is acting and Skull will say some corny stuff like, “I’d love you even if you were a nasty shadow girl.” And Shadow Headphones and Skull are like a toxic power couple.

Bobble hat beefs with her shadow and has the most powerful desire to ride the shadows, becoming the main protagonist of this arc. She is allowed to be crazed and joyous, and cut to Mask who’s blushing under his mask and clutching his chest like, “What is this feeling? Ive never felt like this before?” And he’s fantasizing about Bobble hat carrying him like a princess.

And then the internet humor of having characters interact with the complete opposite. Like Double Egg getting so heated because his shadow is feminine and has a healthy relationship with his parents. N-Pacer is so annoyed with a chatty ditsy shadow, with her conventional bubbly Omega. Hachi’s shadow is a spiting image of how he was before he lost his memory, but none of the Octos have the heart to tell them.

This arc is an end of an era. We see how the characters have changed and grown over these roughly 3-4 years. Looking fondly on the past while looking bravely on the present.

Celebrating all these wacky characters we’ve met and everyone gets screen time.

All the couples get cute moments: Designer and Sailor-B cuddle and reminisces about how they first met, Hivemind and Fierce are holding hands and bickering like an old married couple, Emperor and Vintage staying close and talking, Skull and Headphones being so sweet, etc. 

Riddle me this: The Stamp Rally is almost over and the sun is going down with the bright orange of the sky turning to purple.

Goggles and Rider stand on a building laughing and thinking about how they met. They stand overseeing the stamp rally as the others celebrate and cheer. Rider and Goggles share a moment, and say that they like each other. But they laugh and decide that they’ll go slow and hold hands, they are called down by the others to join the celebration.

It is this that leads to Laceless becoming team leader and them bringing in Squidkid as their 3rd. There’s this moment where Prince and Laceless see each other after not for like 4 months and they look and are instantly attracted to one another (very cute)

New horizons, Hazzah

The Monarchs: Emperor after his 9 to 5 arc realizes his mistakes and begins to mend his relationship with Prince and his team, but it was slow. His worst trait is his avoidant tendencies (ignoring instead if facing problems) so when he is faced with something serious, like questioning his sexuality he shuts down and leaves. He gains boyfriend, but deeply hurt Prince who was starting to warm their relationship. (This is from Ranked-to that buffer after the shadows)

This made Prince so angry that he goes out and just does kinda vaguely delinquent stuff (Staying out late/Loitering) and meets Candy, who takes him under her wing and allows him a safe place to feel angry. He decides to train and grow as a person (New style, pierced ears and nose, learning Octarian, nurturing his love of inventing, Doing that Anime trope where in a summer a child goes into a teenager who looks like a twenty year old) as he recruits Squidkid, and the others do the same as they nurture and grow as people. Curiously they don’t have a fourth member, they just have a rotating wheel of whoever is available (Eging, N-pacer, the S5, etc.)

Team Splashy: brought into the fold to be closer to her man, Splash forms a team distinctly after the Stamp Rally with curious characters how don’t seem to get along with Team Gloves (Cue Humor)
