Chapter 1: A new leaf

Chapter Text

Schroeder pov:
Age: 8

Lucy's in my face spewing something.

I don't really ponder on what it is since one, I'm playing the piano and two, I'm VERY used to her antics at this point. But then I notice her face seemed a bit more worried so, I look up.

" Schroeder? Will you be my pen pal?"

I look back down and start playing a jingle I heard on the tv.

"Are you serious? Were you even listening?"

I bluntly say. "Nope." I carry that tune into one of Beethoven measures, the transition was perfect- until she slammed her hand all over my keys.

I decided to just listen to her so she'd become a little less annoying.

"I'm taking my aunt's advice and decided on going to that all girls school I've been telling you about."

I can't recall a time she discussed this with me.

"I just wanted to know if you'd keep your promise and write now and then.."

I give her a deadpan look. "When did I ever agree to this?"

"Yesterday! I made sure Charlie Brown was right there when I ask because you always do this."

I glanced to the side and see him. Where did he come from?
"He was always here!"

Can she read my mind?

"No, I know you too well that's all."

She makes one of those jump scare smiles. I know it's that because it makes my heart jump.

"Yeah Schroeder, you did agree to it."

I look at her, that normal grin is back and that tingling feeling evaporates.

"So?" She says I turn back to my piano just playing a random song I read once.

"So, how long will you be gone? Lemme guess-"
before I could finish the sentence she's stomping on the ground. It's in a rhythm so I play a piece with the same tempo. She notices and I can feel the heat radiating from her.

"Why are you being so cruel?" I roll my eyes.

"Because you've done it multiple times." I turn to face her, it seems like I've grown a centimeter taller.

"You got me the first time. Ok! Could you come up with a more original way to Harass me?" She looks like she's about to either cry or punch me in my throat. So I back up.

"Listen, Lucy-" she's running out the door out of my room . Charlie waves bye and follows her. I hear my mom chat with her until I hear her scream for me. I already know she snitched on me so I'm ready to walk down stairs to see her smug face. But I don't. She's gone and it's just my mom and I.

Lucy pov:

8 years old

I feel awful. It's embarrassing to hear it from the source. My cousin had her 13th birthday party. I told her all about him and she straight up told me I was "harassing him"

"Lucy, for your age it's cute. But soon you have to realize what you're doing isn't the way to go."

At first I didn't want to believe it but. it's all on his face. When I told my mom she thought it was cute. Everyone thought it was adorable. But I'm just smothering him.

"Stop following me blockhead!" I wanna punch Charlie but I decided not to.

"I just want to make sure you're ok." I want to tell him I'm not, but instead I shout at him to stop bothering me. He went on his way and I started packing.

I'm heading off to the same school my cousin's at. I'll learn more about girlhood and become a better version of myself. This is the right thing to do.
