Summary
After Lily dies saving Harry from Voldemort, Halloween 1981, James moves in to Grimmauld Place with Sirius to get help raising Harry on his own and to process his grief. He is trying his best to wrestle with his guilt, single parenting, and what his role is now that the war is over.
Regulus, after destroying all of the horcruxes and killing Voldemort, effectively ending the wizarding war, asks Sirius for a place to stay (hard being homeless and a famous war hero inevitably). Inadvertently forcing him to live with the last person he was unable to save’s husband and son.
