Chapter Text
The evening sky was dark with the moonlight casting shadows on your brisk figure as you made your way from the Skyhaven station—towards Caleb’s house. You had luckily caught the last train, feeling a little proud, there was a bounce in your steps. Your lips curved while thinking about your plans falling into place. Caleb has no idea you were coming a week earlier. You had worked your ass off to finish up exams in time for his birthday and you even prepared a whole weekend itinerary.
It was past midnight when you arrived and snuck in through the garden gate, slipping in the back door like some thief. Filled with adrenaline, you were caught off guard when you heard the shower running. Caleb must’ve worked late again, he promised you he would sleep early tonight. That liar!
As you neared the bathroom door concocting a punishment for him, the shower abruptly stopped. You didn’t have time to think of doing something else when the door swung open. Misty steam escaped from behind a tall figure as you launched yourself at him.
“Surpr—“
“Didn’t I tell you to only stay in the guest room?”
You didn’t get a chance to even touch Caleb before invisible hands shoved you away. Landing with a thud, you were disoriented and confused.
After the shock settled, Caleb didn’t immediately fawn over you which made you finally look up to see he had his back turned and was walking into the kitchen. He had a towel wrapped around his waist and his hair was slightly wet still.
He didn’t look back as he leisurely poured himself a glass of wine. “I also remember telling you no clothes. I don’t have time for this. If you can’t listen to simple commands, I’ll call someone else.”
You couldn’t make sense of the words you were hearing. The guest bedroom? No clothes? Calling someone else? Who did he think you were? At midnight on a Friday at that!
“Caleb.” It was one singular word, but you were pissed and it sure as hell sounded like it.
You watch his back stiffen and hear the clink of the wine glass being set down.
“Pipsqueak?” Caleb spun around to see you still halfway laying the floor where his evol had thrown you. “Pipsqueak what are you doing here?”
You see his cold face instantly wash into the worried and overprotective look you knew so well. Caleb’s face also had a touch of bewilderment as you shifted into a sitting position on the floor.
“Pipsqueak get up, it’s cold.” Caleb knelt and tried to grab your hand but you push him away. Almost as hard as how he’d thrown you earlier.
“It’s quite comfortable.” You snap. “It would be colder if I wasn’t wearing clothes though I suppose.”
You watch as his eyes widen and he opened his mouth but nothing came out.
“Who were you expecting?” You didn’t beat around the bush. “Who did you think I was?”
“I—“ Caleb sighed, “Pipsqueak let’s talk somewhere else, come on.”
Caleb tries to grab you again but you rip your hand away from him this time.
“Where? In the guest room?”
You glared into his deep eyes and felt a little satisfaction as you saw your words striking exactly where you aimed them.
“It seems like you have prearranged plans for the night so I’ll be going now.” You declared and quickly got up, brushing yourself off while looking down at him.
“Pipsqueak, the trains aren’t running and it’s late. If you don’t want to talk or see me right now, we can talk in the morning, so—just stay.
You didn’t reply and stalked towards the door. You froze when you saw a shadow outside and heard three crisp knocks. Glancing at the time, it was exactly 1am.
“How punctual.” You scoffed under your breath.
Caleb quickly overtook your strides, standing between you and the door as well blocking the window view.
“Caleb, get out of my way.” You gritted out.
“No.”
“Fine, I’ll stay here. Open the door then.” You crossed your hands over your chest and motioned with your head. “Go on.”
Caleb didn’t move and it was a stalemate until you heard footsteps fading away. You didn’t want to miss your chance so you lunged at the door, but didn’t get to even touch it before Caleb grabbed you.
The world spun as you were hoisted over his shoulder. “Caleb let me down now!” You kicked your legs and pounded on his back but his steps didn’t falter.
You were carried into his bedroom and he held you with one arm while the other hand locked the door behind.
Caleb set you down on the bed and you scrambled away from him. He didn’t move to touch you again.
“I’ll go sleep in the guest room if you promise you won’t leave tonight.” He says not looking at you.
“Why should I promise anything when someone promised to sleep early tonight but had a 1am appointment?” You slipped off the side of the bed and headed towards the door.
Before you could even take your second step, strong arms wrapped around your waist and you were pulled back into a solid chest. You started struggling but couldn’t move an inch in Caleb’s hold. You felt his calm breaths on your back but also felt his erratic heartbeat.
You finally twisted around in his lap enough to face him. “Caleb, I’m never going to forgive you if you don’t let me go right now.”
You didn’t expect to hear a low chuckle. “That doesn’t matter to me as long as you’re with me.” Caleb’s voice had deepened and he had this look in his eyes. It was almost as if the lights couldn’t reach it, his eyes had darkened into a clouded violet shade.
“I won’t leave, so let me go.”
Caleb didn’t respond.
“Hey, I said I’ll stay tonight so go sleep in the guest room like you promised.”
“Would it be selfish of me if I wanted to stay like this?” Caleb rested his head on my shoulder, sighing into my hair.
“I’m tired, if you want someone to keep you company, maybe that girl hasn’t gone far, go call her.” You say with an even tone even though your hands tightened into a ball and your vision flashed with red, hot jealousy.
Caleb seemed to noticed everything as he ran his hands down the sides of your body and unclasped both of your hands.
“I only want you.” He whispers. “But…that side of me is dirty and I don’t want you to see it.” He says into your skin.
“…what side of you?”
“Did you know, you’re the first thought that greets me in the morning and the last memory I have before sleeping. You are the star of every single one my of dreams and I sometimes can’t tell the difference between dreaming and reality when I’m with you.”
You separate your bodies just enough to look at Caleb, to slowly caress his face and hold it in your hands. Your fingers began to trace the line of the soft arc of his eyebrows to his eyes, down to the slope of his nose and then the cupids bow… you couldn’t tell if it was your fingertips burning or if it was his lips that were on fire as you brushed against them.
He melted into your touch, softly kissing your fingers as if worshipping a deity. His mouth tried to follow your hand when you pulled away, he looked a little lost even. You propped yourself on his right shoulder and trailed your left hand down his body, reaching the edge of the towel around his waist.
Your fingers began to tease the folded lines and Caleb realizes what you wanted to do. He sobers up and stops your wandering hand.
“No.” He gasps.
“Why not?” Your fingers inched forward into the towel. “I interrupted your little appointment so shouldn’t I make up for it?”
Thinking about it, your blood began to boil again. “I’m not the little girl who needs your protection anymore so stop trying to hide things from me. If you’re doing these things, why can’t I?”
You rip off the towel and adjust your legs to sit astride him. Immediately, you felt a heated length spring up, hitting your center. Separated by a thin piece of lace. You couldn’t help but whimper which chorused with Caleb’s low agonized groan.
