I don't want to view a world on fire

Summary:

After Sovreign attacked the Citadel, Shepard just wanted to spend some time on a break with her friends. But when a bright flash of light brought the entire citadel to a burgeoning galaxy, she knew she wouldn't be getting overtime for this.

This is a Mass Effect watches the fallout world through the eyes of a character fic.

Notes:

After many months of not having the motivation to continue writing I have finally found it I came back to this chapter and realized I don't like it that much, so I edited it. I hope you enjoy the edited version.

Chapter 1: The introduction

Chapter Text

A month after the Reaper attack on the Citadel, things are progressing slowly.  The repairs to the Citadel have been moving along.

Allison Shepard has been going around the Citadel and helping people with problems and making sure the tenuous stability they currently have is maintained.

She and her crew are currently on the Citadel and are trying to enjoy their brief period of inaction before being inevitably pulled back into the field.

Shepard is currently on the Normandy, trying to convince some of her crewmates to watch a web series about space marines and aliens with her. Liara was immediately on board; she wanted to find out what humans thought aliens would have been like before they met them. Tali agreed to spend time with the rest of the crew. The only one disagreeing was Garrus. "Thank you for the offer commander, but I just don't have the time to sit down and watch a show with you guys." Shepard retorted "The only thing you have to do is make sure we are ready to go at a minute's notice... for the tenth time."

Before the conversation could continue further, a bright flash of purple light filled their vision.

A similar flash appeared in the Council chamber where all the councilors were just finishing up a session talking about the budget to finish work on the wards, when the same flash viewed on the Normandy was seen in the room.

Just before the flash overtook their vision, councilor Sparatus confusedly said “what the …”

That same flash appeared before all the people on the Citadel. It engulfed the vision of all the ambassadors on the Presidium, the Citadel Tower lit up like the star on a Christmas tree, and almost all the partygoers who weren’t high on drugs thought they would go blind. Eventually almost all the beings on the citadel vanished, leaving only the keepers to carry on their silent tending to the massive station.

When all the people’s visions cleared what they saw before them took their breath away. The sight of a galaxy, purple with rich and deep blues, at the dawn of its creation, suspended in time.

Shepard, Garrus, Tali, Liara, and Wrex were gathered on what looked like to be a small platform with a walkway behind the that led to a closed door.

When they looked around, they saw many of the same set up with many different people, including the councilors.

Immediately, any person that had seen any kind of combat immediately stood up scanning for threats. If they weren't so shocked, they would have realized that they had no weapons. Before any other action could be taken a thing stopped them.

What happened was another flash of light but much softer. At the tail end of it what appeared was a giant woman made of bright stars and a purple sky.

She was about the height of the Normandy and when she appeared everyone, especially the Asari, with their biotic skills, felt like a mother was welcoming them home after a long time away.

“Hello, my children” softly spoke the unnamed entity. Shepard was immediately on guard. Things that spoke that softly and with a “my children” aren’t usually good.

On her arrival everyone was rendered silent. After a beat, Councilor Irissa spoke up “who are you”

“I am Cassandra, and before you ask, I am here to help”

Wrex spoke up next and asked “what are you” obviously wondering if he needs to get ready for a fight.

“As I said I am Cassandra, but more specifically The Mother”

“The Mother” questioned Liara, with a tone of puzzlement.

“The Mother, I am the mother who welcomes all of her children back home at the end of their life, but some humans may call me the grim reaper”

“You said you are here to help” queried the Salarian councilor Esheel

“That’s right, I am here to help with a viewing of a different universe”

That got almost every being there to raise their hackles.

“Silence” yelled Sparatus, “what do you mean by a different universe”

“I mean a different universe Councilor, more specifically a different Earth, one where the ground was scorched with fire, one where life on the surface can be hellish.”

Immediately all humans let out noises of terror, many questioning what the being could mean.

“So do you accept”

“We do” said Shepard, who wanted all the help they could get against the Reapers.

“Very well, get ready to view a world that was set on fire”
