Chapter 1: You can't see me!
Chapter Text
“Where is Lily?” asked Victoire, walking into the kitchen of the Burrow. “I cannot find her and I have her hair piece” Victoire held up a gold hair clip. Then the door to the backyard opened and Lily Potter walked in in a gorgeous forest green dress. “Lily, oh thank god. Here” Victoire held out the hairclip and gave it to her younger cousin. Lily was a flower girl with Victoire’s younger cousin on the other side of the family, Aurelie. Aurelie was Fleur’s younger sister, Gabrielle’s, daughter and whilst Victoire rarely saw her mothers side of the family she still included her cousin in the wedding.
“Thanks Vic” said Lily. “I’ll go get Fleur to help me put this in my hair. Is there anything else I can do for you?”
“Just make sure all the others aren’t making a mess of themselves” said Victoire “I need to go get dressed but I can’t leave incase I see Teddy”
“Teddy is at our house grabbing something with Hugo and Louis” said Lily “He said he’d be about half an hour” Victoire let out a sigh of relief. “He said he’d let us know when he got back, but that's what I was coming to tell you. Your dad wants you to see the set up, and James has a question”
“Oh help” Victoire rushed out of the house barefoot and walked through the field out the back of the burrow and to the location where she and Teddy were holding their wedding. She and Teddy had decided to get married in a field close to the Burrows edge. It had been their special place for so long, and they wanted to make their love for each other official in the same spot they had started dating and got engaged. As Victoire approached the tree that held so many memories she felt tears well in her eyes. It was perfect. Chairs were set up in front of a big old oak tree and her uncle Charlie was standing in front of the chairs talking with her dad. “Hi dad!”
“Oh Vic” Bill turned to look at Victoire and she saw tears in her fathers eyes “You look beautiful”
“I’m not even ready yet” said Victoire “well, not finished”
“Your hair and makeup looks incredible,” said Charlie. “I am so happy for you”
“Thanks uncle Charlie” said Vic. “Lily said you guys wanted me. Anything wrong?”
“No, we just wanted to make sure you approved of all this,” said Bill. Victoire looked around and everything was exactly as she’d imagined it. “I hope it's all okay, Ted chose a lot of the decorations and where they should go”
“It's perfect,” said Victoire. She spotted four chairs in the front row that had bouquets of flowers on them. “Are they for Ted's parents?”
“Yes” said Charlie, “those two for Remus and Tonks, one for his grandpa Ted and one for Fred” Victoire felt tears well in her eyes and she smiled. “Is everything okay?”
“I wish they could see him” said Victoire “and I wish Fred and Ted’s grandpa were here too” Bill pulled her into a gentle hug. For a moment Victoire didn’t care about her hair being ruined, all she cared about was Teddy getting to see his parents and have them witness his wedding day. Then, there were running footsteps and Louis came running up to them.
“Hi Vikky. Teddy’s back and mum wants you to go to the house and get ready. Like now” he ran off again. Victoire grinned and squeezed her dad extra tight, before smiling.
“I’d best be off before mum blows up” she grinned and walked off back to the house, making sure not to see Teddy. As she walked back up into the burrow she heard her mother gasp and rolled her eyes. “What mum?”
“Your feet” Victoire looked down and saw her rather dirty feet. “I will be right back, do not take one step further” Victoire rolled her eyes and sat on the kitchen bench and saw two of her cousins fighting over something.
“Lily, Hugo what's up?” she called out.
“Hugo grabbed something from dad's office” said Lily “I don’t know what it is but I wanna see it” the pair continued to fight and Victoire sighed. She walked over to them and saw a strange hourglass. “Hugo let go.”
“No Lily, it's mine,” Hugo said.
“Both of you stop,” said Victoire. “I don’t want you messing up your clothes and I don’t want you breaking anything. Now. Give that to me and go get Harry. We’re going to bring him here and sort this out” Victoire took the object from the pair and they sulkily walked off, arguing. Victoire sighed and sat down on the coffee table. The last thing she wanted to do was spend her wedding day sorting out her cousin's fights. Hopefully Harry can fix it easily, she thought. She was deep in thought when she heard footsteps and turned around to see Teddy.
“Vic?” he asked
“Teddy!” she shrieked as she jumped up and tripped over the coffee table. The hour glass in her hands flew across the room and smashed. “You can’t see me! It's bad luck”
“I’m just leaving” said Teddy, closing his eyes and looking anywhere but his fiance. He was just stumbling down the rest of the stairs when he heard a loud pop and the sound of Victoire’s shuffling stop. Cautiously he opened his eyes and saw she was gone. “Uhh… Vic?” He ran down the last step and looked around the room. “Victoire?”

Victoire landed with a crash right where she had been. Slightly annoyed at the fact that she’d have to re-do her hair, she sat up and took in her surroundings. She was in the Burrow still, but it looked different, darker. Noticing the significant lack of photos of her cousins and family, she started to worry. However, she didn't get to panic for long, as a second later a red-haired man was pointing his wand at her throat.
“What the hell?” she shrieked
“Who are you?” asked the man who she realised to be a significantly younger version of her uncle Charlie with incredibly short hair. When she could only squeak in response he pointed his want closer at her face. “Who are you?” he repeated through gritted teeth, a terrifying look in his eyes.
“Victoire” whispered Victoire, scared for her life. “Where am I?”
“Why should I tell you?” asked Charlie. Just then the kitchen door burst open and none other than Bill walked in, a large smile on his face.
“Charlie, why the hell are you pointing your wand at Fleur?” exclaimed Bill, running over to his brother and pulling him away from Victoire. Only when he looked closer at her, he too pulled his wand out. “Who are you?”
“Victoire” said Victoire, a little more confident. “Listen, I’m not from here”
“Where the hell are you from then?” asked Bill “and why do you look like my fiance?”
“I’m..” Victoire hesitated, she could change everything by saying where she was from, but what other choice did she have. “My name is Victoire Weasley. I’m from the year 2024”
“That's not possible” said Bill
“Believe me I wish I was lying” said Victoire “However I’m not. Could you please tell me what year it is and if you have any ideas on how to get me back?”
“It's 1997” said Bill slowly “I don’t want to tell you anything else, I don’t trust you” he eyed her suspiciously before turning to his brother. “Charlie, go get the others please” Charlie nodded and jogged off. “Now, why do you look like my fiance?”
“Surely you’ve worked that out by now” said Victoire with a grin. Bill only stared back at her. “Oh come on, you said you were smarter when you were younger, Dad” Bill’s eyes widened in shock.
“How do I know you’re not lying?” asked Bill “and it’s not polyjuice potion making you look like this?”
“I don’t know how to prove it to you but I’ll tell you what I know. I know you first met my mum, Fleur Delecour during the triwizard tournament held at Hogwarts in 1994. You started secretly dating in the summer 1995 and told everyone you were helping Fleur improve her English. You got engaged in 1996. You also got attacked by a werewolf the night Dumbledore died, but you don’t fully transform, you just have wolfish tendencies. Like enjoying your steak on the raw side. You got married in 1997, I’m assuming not yet as you said it was 1997 and still called mum, Fleur, your fiancé. I don’t know what else to tell you that won’t change the future”
“I…” Bill was lost for words. “If you aren’t actually my daughter you sure as hell know a lot about me” Victoire couldn't help but giggle a little at that comment. Luckily at that point Charlie came back inside with 2 people Victoire only knew from photos.
“Who are you?” exclaimed Lupin at once, pointing his wand at Victoire. Tonks did the same, a fierce look in her eyes just like Teddy. As Victoire stared into the faces of her future parents in law she couldn’t help but feel tears well in her eyes. How cruel was it that she got to meet her fiancés parents and he couldn’t. Was the world really that cruel? Everything blurred as the tears grew, threatening to spill over. As she stared at Lupin and Tonks through the tears their images started to blur and form into one. She could almost imagine Teddy was staring back at her. She swallowed hard and a tear escaped her eye, sliding down her face.
“Oh honey” Tonks lowered her wand a little. “Are you okay?” All Victoire could do was nod her head once. Tonks didn’t fully lower her wand but turned to Bill. “Have you confirmed her identity?”
“I’m not sure. Is there any spell you can perform?” asked Bill
“I can do a simple occlumency spell on her” Tonks turned to Victoire with a straight face, letting no emotion show “I am going to perform a spell that allows me to see your memories. Do not push me away. I will not pry for long. Just enough to prove you are who you say you are” Victoire nodded. “Okay, come with me into a separate room. Everyone wait out here and get Mr and Mrs Weasley” she led Victoire down the hall. Lupin followed them and stood outside the door, guarding it. Bill and Charlie left to get their parents. Tonks closed the door and turned to Victoire. “Right, I will perform this spell and then we’ll get to the bottom of this” she looked Victoire dead in the eyes. “Legilimens”
Victoire felt her mind fly back to the moment she and Teddy got engaged. They were under the big old tree in the burrows garden. She was sitting on the swing, admiring the sunset when she turned around and saw Teddy down on one knee. As Teddy spoke all Victoire could think of was how much she loved him. Of course she said yes and they kissed.
Tonks moved onto a different memory.
It was a family dinner at the burrow. Everyone was there, including Teddy and Andromeda. The memory progressed throughout the dinner, all the cousins causing chaos, the adults trying to calm them down and Teddy throwing sneaky glances at Victoire. Bill caught them and separated them immediately, a fereice look in his eyes as he sat close to Victoire and engaged her in a conversation. But Victoire looked past her father and into teddy’s eyes, entrapped by their ever changing colour.
Tonks moved onto the last memory. It was Teddy and Victoire walking through the halls of Hogwarts. They were patrolling together as Teddy was headboy and Victoire a prefect. Victoire went to turn down the next corridor but noticed her boyfriend wasn’t with her. She turned and saw him staring at a collection of portraits on the wall. Victoire’s eyes skimmed over the faces of Sirius Black, Mad-eye Moody, Colin Creevy, Severus Snape and Fred Weasley until they came to rest on the 2 faces her boyfriend was looking at. The smiling face of Nymphadora Tonks grinned back at them. She winked and laughed happily at the couple in front of her. In the portrait next to her, the handsome but solemn face of Remus Lupin gently smiled at them. Victoire slipped her hand into Teddy’s and laid her head on his shoulder. “I miss them” whispered Teddy in a tight voice “So much”. Victoire nodded and kissed his cheek gently before hugging him tightly.
Tonks pulled herself out of Victoire’s mind and stared at the young girl open mouthed. Victoire looked back, a few more tears escaping her eyes. Tonks studied Victoire closely and smiled when she could see the resemblance of the two people getting married. “Dora?” Lupin knocked on the door “Everything alright?”
“Yes” called back Tonks, wiping her eyes “Be out in a sec, go get the others” They heard Lupin walk off and Tonks subconsciously placed a hand on her stomach as she stared at Victoire.
“Congratulations” said Victoire, nodding at her hand. Tonks stared at her.
“How did you-?” she asked “I haven’t told anyone except Remus”
“I am from the future,” said Victoire simply before she smiled. “I’m pretty sure you know who was in those memories”
“And the portraits?” asked Tonks, already knowing the answer. When Victoire remained silent, Tonks silently covered her mouth, a look of horror on her face. Victoire had tears streaming down her face. Tonks slowly walked over to Victoire and pulled her into a tight hug. Victoire hugged her back in shock.
“I’m sorry” whispered Victoire.
“It's alright honey” said Tonks gently, pulling away and wiping her eyes. “It was bound to happen sooner or later. Just don’t tell the others yet. Especially not Remus. He’s already majorly freaking out”
“I won’t say anything,” said Victoire. She wiped her eyes and faced Tonks with a brave smile. “I never introduced myself. I’m Victoire Weasley”
“Tonks” said Tonks with a smile “Although you already know that” Victoire nodded. “Right, well. Let's go find the others and get you home” Victoire nodded and wiped her eyes again, praying her make up hadn’t been ruined too much. Tonks walked out the door and Victoire followed, still in shock that she’d actually met her future mother in law. They walked back into the kitchen of the Burrow where Bill, Charlie, and Lupin were sitting, now joined by her grandparents, Mr and Mrs Weasley.
“She is who she says she is,” said Tonks, taking a seat next to Lupin and gesturing for Victoire to sit next to her. Victoire slowly walked over and slipped into the seat, feeling incredibly awkward as everyone in the room stared at her.
“Are you sure?” asked Lupin
“Yes” said Tonks firmly, rolling her eyes at her husband “You seem to forget I’m a trained auror. I know what I’m doing”
“What's your name?” asked Mrs Weasley, looking curiously at Victoire. The young girl looked up, surprised. She glanced at Tonks, wondering if it was okay to reveal the information. Tonks nodded, an encouraging smile on her face.
“My name is Victoire Weasley, and I’m from the year 2024”
“So you’re related to us?” asked Mrs Weasley in wonder. Victoire nodded, unsure of how much she could say. She glanced at Tonks.
“I think we can all get to know each other better later” said Tonks before she glanced at the clock on the wall “For now there's a wedding in not very long. How about you all go get ready and I’ll disguise Victoire with some charms”
“We can say you’re a friend from school” said Bill, standing up and straightening his dress robes “Just stick close to Tonks the whole night please and don’t talk to many people” Victoire nodded. She was nervous about the wedding. She knew what attack was going to happen that night, but didn’t want to tell them. She knew she couldn’t as it would change the future. Everyone dispersed from the kitchen and Tonks led Victoire upstairs into the bathroom.
“Right” Tonks faced her with a smile “We need to make you not look like Fleurs twin”
“You’d better change everything about me” said Victoire. Tonks nodded and got to work. She changed Victoires hair so it was a light brown colour and up to her shoulders. Next she modified her face to make her eyes green and she put freckles across her nose. “Is that enough?” asked Tonks. Victoire looked in the mirror and gasped. She looked so different.
“Definitely enough to throw people off” she smiled at her future mother in law “Thank you”
“Oh it's nothing honey” Tonks smiled. Victoire brushed her new short hair out of her face and Tonks caught sight of the ring on her finger. “Hey! We match” Tonks held out her own hand “Sad considering the circumstances, but still. It's such a gorgeous ring who can say no to it”
“It is so beautiful,” said Victoire, gazing down at her hand. “I’m proud and honoured to wear it”
“So, are you two engaged?” asked Tonks, leaning against the bathroom sink with a smile.
“Yes, today was actually meant to be my wedding day. Except I’ve somehow ended up 26 years in the past” she sighed. “I bet Ted, my fiance, is worried sick”
“Ted?" asked Tonks, her hand resting on her stomach again “Ted is my…?”
“Son? Yes” Victoire “He’s incredible. You’d love him. I wish he was here. He’d give anything to meet you”
“I would too,”
“Tonks” the name felt strange coming out of her mouth. “I don’t have any wedding appropriate clothes to wear” said Victoire, gesturing to her pyjamas she was still in. Tonks nodded.
“How about we quickly go and see if there are any clothes here that’d fit you?” Victoire nodded and followed Tonks downstairs. They walked into the laundry and found some of Fleur's clothes hanging up. “These would fit you, right?”
“Just about” Victoire picked up a simple black slip dress “Do you think this is okay to wear?”
“Definitely” Tonks stepped out of the room and closed the door. “Get changed in there, leave your clothes in a pile and we’ll deal with them later” Victoire quickly pulled her pyjamas off and threw them in a corner. She slipped the dress on and smiled, it fit her perfectly. She opened the door and smiled at Tonks. “Shoes!” exclaimed Tonks as she flicked her wand. Victoire couldn’t help but smile at how much she reminded her of Teddy.
“Tonks” Victoire slipped on the plain black heels that had appeared “If something bad was to happen, should I tell you?”
“No” said Tonks firmly as they walked towards the marquee “You mustn’t tell us anything big like that. Let it happen”
“But should I hide if something should happen, like if there were to be an attack” she tried not to give away too much detail “and people got tortured for information, should I hide so I’m not interrogated”
“Victoire” Tonks stopped dead in her tracks, a few metres away from the line of guests and Remus, who was eyeing her closely. “What do you know”
“You said I can’t tell you”
“Right” Tonks sighed “Does something happen soon?” Victoire nodded “Does it happen tonight?” Victoire nodded again. “Merlin's beard, poor Bill” she sighed and ran a hand through her blonde hair. “Okay. Well, I need you hiding somewhere safe. I’ll talk to you later. Lets just enjoy the wedding first” Tonks grabbed her arm and dragged her over to Lupin. “Hi sweetheart”
“Hello” Lupin nodded at Victoire “You look… different”
“Thank you?”
“It's a good different” reassured Lupin “Are you sitting with us?”
“I’m not sure,” admitted Victoire. Then a curly haired red-head appeared in front of them and she awkwardly stood beside Tonks as they chatted to who she now knew was her uncle Harry.
“Oh, this is Vic. She’s a friend of ours from school” said Tonks as Harry led them down the aisle “Bill did tell you she’s sitting with us, right?”
“Yes, last minute change” Harry directed them to their seats and Victoire awkwardly sat next to Tonks and Lupin as they chatted in low voices. The seats around them filled up slowly and VIctoire got more and more nervous. She had spotted her twin uncles leading people through the marquee and had to hold back her tears as she listened to her uncle Fred flirt with her veela relatives. Then the wedding started and she watched her fathers wedding unfold. She smiled as she watched her mother and father marry each other. She glanced around her and saw all her uncles grinning, and her grandparents all smiling and wiping their eyes. She spotted her two aunts too, and her aunt Hermione. She tried not to stare at her uncle Fred, but it was difficult.
“I now pronounce you man and wife”
Victoire burst into applause as her parents kissed for the first time as a married couple. She wiped her eyes a little and turned to look at Tonks and Lupin next to her. Tonks was smiling and cheering, while Lupin looked solemn and reserved. As Victoire stared at her fiance's parents, she didn’t see the two people in love that she’d always seen in photos. She saw a woman clearly in love, and a man in a constant battle with himself. Victoire knew that Lupin had had issues with his feelings, but she thought he’d been more in love with Tonks than this. Shaking her head, she focused her attention back on the front, happy to see her parents together.

The reception was beautiful. Victoire stayed close to Tonks, feeling very awkward when the woman left to dance and all Victoire could do was stand next to Lupin, who looked just as sad as her. As the night continued, Victoire got more and more nervous, she knew the death eaters were coming soon, and she needed to hide.
“Remus” she whispered to the man next to her, who was leaning against a pole frowning.
“Yes?”
“I need to talk to Tonks” Victoire looked through the crowd but couldn’t see her “Do you know where she is?”
“I don’t” said Lupin “Why do you need to talk to her?”
“Something happens” said Victoire in a low voice “Something bad. I can’t prevent it, but Tonks said I need to hide” Lupin looked at her. “I don’t know when it happens but its soon, and I need to be well hidden because its bad”
“Oh god” Lupin ran a hand through his hair “Okay, let's find her and get out of here” He grabbed her arm and dragged her through the crowd. They found Tonks dancing with a very drunk Charlie. “Dora, come with me”
“Oh Rem, let me have fun” said Tonks
“It's urgent,” said Victoire. Tonks caught her eye and nodded.
“Sorry Charlie, I’ll be back” she gently directed the man towards Hagrid “Why don’t you dance with Hagrid” Charlie stumbled off and Tonks turned to them. “Okay, let's just go to the house so we can talk in a quiet spot”. The three of them walked back to the Burrow and stood in the kitchen. “So, when does this bad thing happen?”
“Soon” said Victoire, glancing through the window “I don’t know when but it happens at night. You two can’t leave, you’re too important”
“Can you tell us anything?” asked Lupin
“I don’t know how much I can reveal” said Victoire “All I know is you two help a lot of people so you can’t leave. But I also can’t leave the grounds of the Burrow because after tonight it gets really dangerous”
“Merlin's beard” Tonks ran a hand through her hair “Where can we hide you?”
“Could I go to like the very edge of the fields, and maybe put a disillusionment charm on. From what I’ve been told they don’t search the grounds, only the house and things close to it”
“That or we take you back to our apartment” said Tonks
“No” said Victoire “It's not safe”. She glanced outside again, night had fallen properly. It was soon they’d be here. “Put a disillusionment charm on me and I’ll find somewhere in the grounds to hide. Please stay safe” Victoire stared at her future parents-in-law “You need to get back there, I don’t know when it will happen”
“Okay” Tonks looked uncertain but cast the charm. “Good luck, we won’t leave until we see you again” Victoire nodded and walked off, avoiding people and grateful for the blanket of darkness the night provided. She watched from a distance as Tonks and Lupin made their way back to the tent. As she passed the chicken coop, she saw a bright white light enter the tent and she knew it was time. She started running, past her grandpa's shed and up the hill to the apple orchard. She weaved through the trees until she felt she was deep enough in. As she sat in the dark she felt tears in her eyes.
How could this have happened? How did she manage to end up in the past, in the middle of a raging war, with her fiance's dead parents. She was missing her wedding day. It was definitely over now. She had no way of contacting her parents or Teddy or anyone. She was truly lost. At least Tonks believed her, she didn’t know how much the others believed her, but Tonks did so that was enough. Victoire didn’t know how much time passed while she sat there, alone in the dark and very cold. She didn’t have her wand with her so she had no way of warming up. As she sat there, alone, Victoire let the tears fall freely down her face. There were screams echoing from the Burrow and she buried her fingers in her ears, trying to drown them out. Slowly, time passed and Victoire uncovered her ears.
It was silent.
“Vic?” she heard a shaky voice call as the sun rose. Victoire stood up and poked her head out. She saw Tonks and Lupin walking towards her, covered in bruises and blood.
“I’m here” she called out “By the trees” she walked over to them and gasped when she saw just how beat up they were. Lupin had a blackeye and was limping. Tonks had a large cut across her eyebrow and a swollen lip.
“Oh you’re okay” Tonks pulled Victoire into a hug as Lupin tapped his wand on her, removing the disillusionment charm. “You’re not hurt?”
“No” said Victoire “But you are, oh my god”
“We’ll be fine” said Tonks “But listen, you have to get back to the Burrow and with Molly and Arthur. We have to go and check on some things but we’ll be back soon. You have to stay with them”
“Of course” they walked back Lupin's firm arm around Tonks waist. “Who knows about me?”
“We briefly explained what happened to Ginny, Fred and George. But you will need to explain in more detail. I wish we could stay but I’ve been called in to work and I need to see Kingsley”
“Go check on your parents” said Victoire as they were about to enter the kitchen “Please”
“What happened to them?” asked Tonks
“Just go check on them” said Victoire “Anyone related to the Order is in big trouble now” Tonks nodded and walked into the kitchen. Mr and Mrs Weasley were sitting at the kitchen table, drinking cups of tea and holding each other. Victoire saw her twin uncles sitting in the lounge room with Ginny and Charlie. “Where’s my dad?” asked Victoire
“He and Fleur went to their cottage” said Lupin “He said he’d be back soon” Victoire nodded. Mrs Weasley looked up at her and smiled a weak smile. “Fred, George, Ginny, Charlie can you come here?” asked Lupin. The siblings looked up and eyed Victoire cautiously as they walked over, the boys clearly standing infront of Ginny guarding her.
“Guys I’d like you to meet Victoire” said Tonks “She’s the person we told you about. Who’s here from the future”
“So you confirmed who she is?” asked Charlie “I know you said you did but I don’t trust her”
“I did” said Tonks “You were there. She is safe. Please, be nice” she glanced at Lupin “We need to go and do some stuff but Victoire you’re welcome to say whatever you want to these guys and we’ll be back soon. Please try to think of ways to get you home”
“I will” Victoire embraced Tonks “Thank you so much” Tonks nodded and took one final glance around the kitchen before racing off. “So” Victoire looked at everyone “Hi, I’m from the future”
“So Remus and Tonks said you’re our granddaughter” said Mr Weasley, inviting Victoire to sit at the kitchen table.
“Yes” said Victoire “I know I don’t look like I did before”
“You should’ve seen her” said Charlie, sitting down “She was Fleur’s twin”
“So you’re Bill’s daughter?” asked Mrs Weasley
“Yes,” said Victoire. She saw all the cuts and bruises they had and frowned “I’m sorry, is there any way I can help you guys heal those wounds you have?” asked Victoire “I’m a healer and they look pretty bad”
“Oh darling, if you could that’d be amazing” said Mrs Weasley “And could you look at George’s ear?”
“Not an ear mum” said George “Just a hole” Fred snickered and Mrs Weasley frowned. She beckoned George forward and he sat awkwardly in front of Victoire. “Why don’t you look like Fleur?” asked George
“Tonks transfigured me to look like this because I am mum's twin” said Victoire, unwrapping the bandages that were around his head “It's scary, especially in this time because we’re around the same age. Me and my brother look scarily like her”
“You have a brother?” asked Mrs Weasley
“Yes, and a sister but she looks like dad” said Victoire, “I can heal this but I need to borrow someone’s wand, I don’t have mine” Mrs Weasley nodded and handed her her wand. “Thanks” she got to work on healing the wounds around George’s ear.
“So tell me about your siblings” said Mrs Weasley
“I’m the oldest of three” said Victoire “My sister Dominique is in the middle and she’s a year younger than me. And then Louis is the baby. He’s 5 years younger than me” Victoire smiled “Louis and I are mum's twins but Dom is the spitting image of dad” Victoire finished George’s ear and smiled. “That's done, can you turn so I can heal the cuts on your face and arms?” George turned and Mrs Weasley continued with her questions.
“So how old are you?”
“I’m 24” said Victoire “Dom is 22 and Louis is 19. All the rest of my cousins are around that age too”
“How many cousins do you have?” asked Mrs Weasley
“On dads side there's 12 of us” said Victoire “13 if you count Teddy, my fiance. He’s an honorary grandchild”
“13 grandkids Arthur” Mrs Weasley beamed at her husband, who looked happy.
“Who has kids?” asked Ginny.
“Everyone except Charlie and Fred” said Victoire “You two stayed childless, I’m not sure why” the brothers high fived and grinned. Victoire smiled and turned to George “You’re all done. Who wants to go next?” Fred shoved Ginny forward, who had a cut on her collarbone.
“Can you tell us about your cousins?” asked Mr Weasley.
“Sure. Tonks said I could say anything, but please just remember to keep it to yourselves. Not that I think you’ll be seeing many people, but yeah” Victoire smiled “So after me and Dom, the next oldest is Molly. She’s Percy’s daughter-”
“He comes back?” breathed Mrs Weasley, hope glimmering in her eyes. Victoire nodded and her grandmother broke into a huge relieved smile. “Oh thank goodness”
“Yes. So there’s Molly, then her little sister Lucy. Then after that it's Uncle George’s kids” the young man perked up from where he was sitting by his twin. “You have twins, called Fred and Roxanne”
“Why’s he named his kid after me?” asked Fred “Cos you love your brother so much?” he teased George, who shrugged.
“I don’t actually know why” said Victoire, deflecting the question “But they’re your only kids. Absolute chaos though, pranksters and quidditch stars”
“I’m so proud George” said Fred, wiping a fake tear away. George sat smiling happily.
“After them its your oldest son aunt Ginny”
“Oldest?” asked Charlie “How many kids does she have?”
“Three” said Victoire “James is your oldest, and he’s the same age as Fred and Roxy” Ginny’s eyes widened.
“So I take it Ginny gets with Harry” said Fred “Only he’d name his kid that”
“Yes” smiled Victoire “Then Louis is a couple of months younger than James. Then its Ginny’s second son, Albus”
“You name your kid Albus?” asked Fred, looking at his sister, who shrugged.
“And then it's Ron’s first kid, Rose. And she’s the same age as Albus. Then after Rose it's Lily, Ginny’s daughter. And finally Hugo is a couple of months younger than Lily, and he’s Ron’s son” Victoire smiled “That's all of them”
“Wow” said Charlie “It's a good thing Fred and I don’t have kids, there’d be too many”
“Yeah” laughed Victoire “So yes, that's all of us. We’re nearly done with Hogwarts too. Rose and Albus are in their final year and Lily and Hugo are in their 5th”
“Can we see what you really look like?” asked Ginny, as she went back to her seat and Fred came over. Victoire nodded and tapped Mrs Weasley’s wand against her head. The magic vanished and everyone’s eyes widened. “Wow” said Ginny “You really are Fleur’s twin”
“Yeah,” laughed Victoire “I’m probably close to mum's age in this time now too, so we probably look even more similar.
“Veela genes are strong then” laughed Fred.
“Yes,” said Victoire. She stared at Fred and forced herself to not lose it. She started to heal his wounds silently, allowing herself time to memorise every detail of his face.
“Did you say you were engaged?” asked Mrs Weasley, speaking up again as silence fell over the kitchen.
“Yeah” said Victoire, praying they wouldn’t notice her ring matched Tonks. She didn’t want to tell them about Teddy, because that would reveal Tonks was pregnant and dead. “Today was actually my wedding day, hence the rather awful makeup and hair”
“No” gasped Ginny “You were going to get married and you ended up here?”
“Yeah” sighed Victoire “Our family can never catch a break” she laughed and patted Fred on the arm “Done, Charlie come here” she was becoming more comfortable with them and it felt nice. Charlie sat down and held out his arm. Victoire healed it and moved to the cut on his face.
“So who am I married to in the future?” asked George
“Angelina” said Victoire
“Angelina Johnson?” asked Goerge in surprise
“As in my ex-girlfriend Angelina Johnson?” exclaimed Fred
“You two broke up?” asked Ginny sadly “I liked her”
“Apparently she’s still around” said Fred, shoving George “This git gets her”
“It's a long story” said Victoire “But yes”
“And Ron and Hermione end up together?” asked Ginny
“Correct” said Victoire “And, you are envied by every witch in England because you get the chosen one”
“Harry and Hermione are part of the family? Oh thank goodness” Mrs Weasley smiled happily. “Oh the future doesn’t sound bad at all, does it Arthur?” Mr Weasley smiled and hugged her.
A knock on the door startled them all. Mr Weasley, Fred, George and Charlie all jumped to their feet, Mr Weasley approaching the door with his wand out. He beckoned to his sons to go back to their seats but they stayed where they were behind their father. Victoire sat next to Mrs Weasley and Ginny, her eyes wide.
“Who is it?” called out Mr Weasley
“Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin” called back a female voice. “We got married in Scotland this year, I am a metamorphmagus and Remus is a werewolf. You currently have someone not from our time with you” Mr Weasley opened the door and Tonks and Lupin stepped in. Both were coated in dust and looked shaken and tired.
“What happened?” asked Mr Weasley, closing the door behind them and ushering them to sit at the kitchen table. Mrs Weasley jumped up to make tea, Ginny joining her.
“They attacked all the houses related to the order” said Tonks “They got into mum and dads house, tortured them like they did to us” Victoire gasped. She had no idea they’d all been tortured. Despite being 24 her parents didn’t tell her many details about the war and what they’d been through.
“Are they okay?” asked Mrs Weasley, bringing over steaming mugs of tea and placing them in front of Tonks and Lupin. Victoire noticed that Tonks had the pink mug that she’d adored so much growing up and insisted on using. This made her smile.
“They’re shaken and resting” said Tonks “Thanks Molly”
“Bellatrix got to them so it wasn’t quick” explained Lupin. Everyone shared similar looks of shock and horror. “And they burnt down Dora’s old apartment building. So we’re moving in with her parents”
“Merlin's beard” muttered Charlie
“Oh Tonks” Ginny got up and gave the young woman a hug.
“Thanks Gin” Tonks smiled “Luckily Mad-eye told me that because I lived near the ministry my stuff would be targeted anyway. So most of it was already at my parents in storage. We only really lost furniture and stuff like that”
“Let us know if you need anything dear” said Mrs Weasley. She got up to grab some food and Tonks turned to Victoire.
“You really do look so much like Fleur”
“I’ve been told” she smiled “I told these guys all about my family and cousins. Nothing else though” Tonks nodded. Lupin sat forward, looking curious.
“So, how did you get sent back in time?”
“Well my cousins Hugo and Lily stole a time turner from my uncle Harry’s office, we’ve all been banned from there by Harry and aunt Ginny. Or at least I think it's a time turner, I don’t know what they look like since they were all destroyed in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. Anyway, I got it off them and told them to find Harry when I heard Teddy come downstairs, Teddy’s my fiance” she added, seeing confused looks “And I got so scared that he’d see me before the wedding that I panicked and tripped and the time turner went flying and smashed and before I knew it I was here with uncle Charlie pointing his wand at me” everyone remained silent before Tonks smiled and smirked at Ginny.
“I told you you’d end up with Harry” Ginny blushed deeply and frowned.
“They have three kids together too,” said Fred. Tonks made a triumphant noise and laughed as Ginny slid further into her seat.
“So do you have any idea how to get back home?” asked Lupin
“No” sighed Victoire “I have no way of contacting them either”
“We’ll work something out” said Tonks reassuringly “But I think you guys all need to rest. Has anyone checked on Bill and Fleur?”
“I’ll go” said Lupin
“Let me come, Remus” said Arthur “It's safer with two people”. Lupin nodded and the two men stood up and pulled their cloaks on. They bid farewell to everyone and left. Silence fell over the kitchen before Ginny tried to stifle a yawn but Mrs Weasley saw her.
“Ginny. Bed”
“But mum-” a stern look made her stop and sigh. “Fine”
“You boys go up too please” said Mrs Weasley “Even if it's just for a short while, you need sleep. You all look exhausted”
“You need sleep too mum” said Charlie
“I will” said Mrs Weasley. “I just need to heal my arm and I’ll be up too. Please go rest” The boys all nodded and walked upstairs, Charlie with his arm around Ginny. Victoire looked at the two adults sitting next to her and felt extremely awkward. Tonks was clutching her mug tightly in her hands and staring into the living room of the burrow.
“Can I heal your arm for you?” asked Victoire, looking at her grandmother. Mrs Weasley nodded and held her arm out. Victoire gently started tapping the skin with her wand and muttering spells. She then conjured some bandages and wrapped them around Mrs Weasley's arm. “All done” she smiled and turned to Tonks.
“Mum patched me up already” smiled Tonks “As I’m sure you’re aware, she’s very good at healing spells. Lots of practice from me”
“Yes,” laughed Victoire. She grabbed the dirty mugs off the kitchen table and put them in the sink, waving her wand at them to start washing them.
“Oh dear you don’t have to do that” said Mrs Weasley
“Please let me grandma” said Victoire “I feel so awful intruding on you. I need to do something and you need to relax” Mrs Weasley looked uncertain but Tonks put a hand on Mrs Weasley’s arm and that seemed to settle the woman down.
“So, tell me more about this fiance of yours” said Mrs Weasley “I want to know about the man marrying into our family?” Victoire glanced at Tonks, who smiled encouragingly.
“Uhh okay. He’s 2 years older than me, and he’s an auror. We’ve known each other since the day I was born and apparently we’ve been inseparable since. He’s uncle Harry’s godson, and absolutely incredible. He’s so kind and caring, and always looks after me and the entire family. He’s been everyones guiding light. We’ve been dating since my fifth year and his seventh year. He proposed last year and as you know, today was meant to be our wedding day” she sighed and ran a hand through her hair “I love him so much, and I know he and dad and everyone must be going absolutely crazy having no idea how to find me or where i’ve gone. Ever since the war everyone is a little more paranoid” Victoire stopped and took a deep breath “Sorry. That was a lot”
“No, no. Don’t worry” said Mrs Weasley, a smile on her face “He sounds absolutely amazing, doesn't he Tonks?”
“Oh yeah” Tonks had tears in her eyes and was grinning widely “He sounds perfect”
“Are you okay dear?” asked Mrs Weasley, her smile fading and her arm resting on Tonks leg. Victoire looked Tonks in the eye, concerned for what might happen.
“Yeah, yeah” Tonks took a deep breath and hugged herself “Listen, there’s something I should tell you. I haven’t told anyone else, but I need your help” she hesitated and Victoire nodded encouragingly. “I’m pregnant”

“Really?!” Mrs Weasley flew at Tonks and embraced her in a tight hug. “Oh Tonks, dear, that’s incredible”
“Thanks Molly”
“How long have you known? When are you due? Oh my goodness I’ve got so many old baby clothes you can have. Is it a boy or a girl? Doesn’t matter. I’m going to make you all the clothes you need” she grinned “Oh a little baby, how exciting. I’ve missed having them around”
“Keep your voice down Molly” whispered Tonks with a smile
“Ooops” Mrs Weasley grinned “I’m sorry. I’m just so excited”
“I’m glad someone is” muttered Tonks
“Are you alright dear? Is it Remus?”
“It's always Remus,” sighed Tonks. “I told him the day before yesterday, and he was not happy. I know this was a huge mistake, there's no way in hell I want to be stuck pregnant during this war, but I am not getting rid of it. He’s begging me to. He keeps saying he’s doomed me to a life of shame, how I’ll be shunned from society, looked down upon. He did his classic too poor and old speech too which you know I’m a big fan of. Plus, he’s now saying that the baby is going to be better off without its father, crazy I know. He says if it’s by some miracle not “like him” it’ll be better off without its father “of whom it should be ashamed”. But it's no use. He says it’ll be like him. I know it won’t. I’ve done my research. The actual condition can’t be passed down genetically, at most the baby might be like Bill and get cranky at full moon and won’t be vegetarian” at that Victoire couldn’t help but giggle. As both she and Teddy carried the werewolf gene they were both huge meat eaters and disliked vegetarian food. Tonks looked at her and smiled tiredly. “Did I just explain the future?”
“Yes” giggled Victoire “Perfectly”
“Oh do you know their baby?” asked Mrs Weasley, looking between the two women.
“You could say that” smiled Victoire “Teddy, their son, is my fiance”
“Really?!” Mrs Weasley practically started levitating “Oh my goodness Tonks you’re part of the family, and Remus too. Merlin’s beard, this is incredible, oh I can’t believe it. Wait till Arthur hears”
“It’s pretty good” said Victoire “The future is almost perfect”
“It sounds incredible” said Tonks, tears in her eyes “At least we know what we’re fighting for now”
“Dear are you okay?” Mrs Weasley put a hand on Tonks' knee. The young woman shook her head. Victoire had an inkling she was crying because she knew she’d never experience that future, but she didn’t want to tell Mrs Weasley.
“I’m sorry Molly, my emotions are everywhere at the moment” Tonks sighed shakily and wiped her eyes “You should rest Molly”
“So should you dear, you need it” Tonks nodded “Victoire, dear, let me make up a bed for you upstairs. Harry and Ron’s room is free”
“Grandma I-” she stopped herself “Can I call you that?”
“Oh of course dear” Mrs Weasley smiled through misty eyes “That sounds so wonderful to hear”
“Anyway, as I was saying, I can just rest down here on the couch and get some food started for you. I didn’t fight like the rest of you”
“If you’re sure”
“Of course. Please go up. I’ll look after everything down here” Mrs Weasley looked uncertain but stood up. She hugged Victoire and Tonks before walking upstairs. Victoire looked at Tonks and sighed. “You should go to sleep too Tonks, you need rest”
“I’m going to wait till Remus and Arthur get back,” said Tonks, putting her feet up on Mrs Weasley's vacant chair. “So, tell me more about Teddy”
“Okay” Victoire smiled as she flicked her wand and the dishes started putting themselves away. “He’s 26, an auror, and the best man ever. He is the kindest person you’ll ever meet. Having been raised by Andromeda, Harry, Ginny and the rest of the Weasley’s you’d expect nothing less, but still. He’s incredible. We’ve been dating since Hogwarts, as I mentioned, and I miss him like crazy. We’ve been inseparable since the day I was born. We were raised together like the rest of the cousins, but we’ve always had a different bond. He’s my soulmate and my best friend”
“He sounds amazing,” said Tonks, wiping her eyes on her sleeve. “And he’s not a werewolf?”
“No, not at all” smiled Victoire “Cos dad’s got the part wolf gene in him, me and my siblings have it too. So I’m part Veela from mum and part werewolf from dad”
“Bet you had the boys running after you” said Tonks “Look at you, I’d get you if I could”
“Dad is very protective of us” smiled Victoire “But me being part werewolf and Ted being half werewolf too is quite helpful. We’re huge meat eaters”
“Oh really?”
“Yeah, every house in our family has a lot of meat just in case” smiled Victoire “Except for Percy’s daughters, they’re vegetarian, least favourite cousins” laughed Victoire “I’m kidding. But Teddy understands what I feel during a full moon and I understand him. We just take those days off and stay home”
“You take days off work each month?” asked Tonks
“The fear and segregation around werewolves have been changed. Since Remus fought in the battle of Hogwarts, and was part of the Order, people started to think differently. Hermione and Kingsley worked hard and got werewolves recognised and respected. They can now be employed like normal, are provided wolfsbane if they want it, and part werewolves, like us, can have days off around full moon”
“I wish Remus could hear that” smiled Tonks “That’d change everything”
“He was awarded an Order of Merlin, first class, too. First werewolf to ever receive one. Andromeda kept it on display above the fireplace for years until Teddy and I moved into our apartment. Now we have it along with all your awards, wands, and the rest of our special things”
“He was? Oh my” Tonks smiled “We have to tell him that. They’ve been gone a while” she frowned “I wonder if I should go find hi-” she was cut off by a knock at the door. She jumped to her feet, tripped over a chair leg, and walked towards the door, wand out. Victoire stood by the kitchen, clutching her grandma's wand tightly. “Who is it?”
“It is I, Remus Lupin. I am a werewolf and your, Nymphadora Tonks, husband. I call you Dora, and you are the only person I’ve ever let see my scars. I come with Arthur Weasley, Bill Weasley and Fleur Delecour-Weasley”
“Come in” Tonks opened the door and ushered them inside “Oh Merlin's beard, what took you so long I was worried” she threw her arms around Lupin, who hugged her back. “Have you explained everything?”
“As best as I can” said Lupin “Where are the others?”
“All upstairs and meant to be resting” said Tonks, clutching Lupin’s arm tightly “Arthur, Molly’s only just gone up and would love to see you. You should rest too, we’ll be okay down here”
“Thank you Tonks” Mr Weasley smiled tightly at her and rushed upstairs to see his wife. Silence fell over the kitchen till Fleur locked eyes with Victoire and spoke.
“So you’re our daughter in the future?”
After another long winded explanation, Victoire eventually caught Lupin, Bill and Fleur up to date on everything. She obviously left out the details about Teddy, but after Tonks and Lupin came back from a walk and she saw Lupin looking like he’d seen a ghost and staring intently at her engagement ring, she knew Tonks had told him. She felt so bad for the couple, but really hoped no one else found out. Tonks was napping on the couch while Lupin ran his fingers through her hair, deep in thought. Victoire was seated in a single squishy armchair, the one she’d adored since she was a child, and Bill and Fleur were sitting together on a smaller couch. They were brainstorming ways to get her back home, or at least contact everyone from her time so they knew which time period she was in.
“I’m sure Hermione and Harry are working overtime trying to figure this out” said Victoire “Kingsley as well”
“Didn’t you say he was minister for magic?” asked Bill
“Yes, but we see him so much, he’s practically family now. He’s at a lot of our lunches, we all adore him” she smiled “He’s like another uncle to us”
“I’m glad he’s still around” said Lupin “he’s a good man, and the person we all need to be minister”
“I agree” nodded Bill “better than that wretched Scrimgour or whoever it is now”
“Thicknesse” said Lupin grimly “I believe he’s under you know who's control. I don’t really want Dora at work anymore. If he’s with them like they say, he’s a direct link to Bellatrix and I hate to think what’d happen next” he stared down at his sleeping wife and Victoire saw the love in his eyes. “Does Kingsley know this has happened?”
“No” said Bill “I don’t know where he is now, after the attack last night everyone is being followed. If he’s smart, which he is, he’ll be lying low for a bit”
“I’ll try to contact him later, see if he’s okay. Then if we need we can ask for help” Lupin ran a hand through his greying hair and Victoire noticed a similarity between him and Teddy. She’d have to make sure she told him.
“But how are we going to get Victoire back?” Fleur spoke up from where she was wrapped tightly in Bill’s arms “Are we just going to sit around and wait?”
“I’m going to have a read of a few books” said Lupin “I just have to unpack them from my stuff at Dora’s parents. I’ll try to have them here by tonight. Right now I’m not moving” Fleur nodded and turned back to Victoire.
“So, tell me more about you and what you do?”
“Okay, well, as I said before. I’m engaged to my fiance and long-term boyfriend Teddy. But as for what I do, I’m a Heeler at St Mungos. I was just a general medi-witch. But I’ve just qualified as a fully qualified midwife. So I’m going to move my primary focus to that”
“A midwife?” Bill sounded shocked and proud “That's impressive”
“Thank you” smiled Victoire “You two were the ones who encouraged me to expand my repertoire and pursue the area of heeling I loved”
“Glad to hear we’re good parents” said Bill “You know, mum was going to be a Heeler before I was born I think”
“She was” said Victoure “She’s the one who inspired me to actually become one. Grandma Molly is amazing”
“She is” agreed Bill “I’m glad she got the large family she always wanted”
“She’s so happy, I wish I could take you all there”
“Me too,” said Bill. There were footsteps on the stairs and Ginny appeared looking exhausted “Hi Gin”
“Hi”
“Want me to make you something?” asked Fleur
“Yes please” nodded Ginny, collapsing on the couch “When will you guys get your wedding photos back?”
“The photographer said today or tomorrow if we’re lucky” said Bill as Fleur got up to go to the kitchen, Victoire following her young mother. Together the two witches worked in silence to make some toast and tea for everyone while they listened to the siblings talk.
“Wow that's quick” said Lupin
“Yeah, we hired someone with fast turn around” said Bill “Didn’t want to risk having them get captured or the film destroyed”
“Smart” nodded Lupin
“Is that going to be all the photos?” asked Ginny “Including the individual and reception shots? I want to see them”
“Should be,” smiled Bill. They continued to talk but Victoire tuned out, an idea forming in her head. She knew that in her parents house and the Burrow a number of different photos from their wedding were displayed, she knew because she and her cousins had studied them day and night, looking at the unfamiliar faces of people lost to time. She had avoided the photographer most of the night, but had been ushered into the large group photo, standing next to Tonks and Lupin, Tonks with her arms around her. She knew this exact group photo was displayed on the Weasley’s coffee table at the burrow, and she loved to look at it. She wondered if someone would notice the pictures change and see an unfamiliar face there and maybe, just maybe, recognise her through her disguise and work out that was where she was.
“I have an idea” she blurted out, interrupting Bill “It's about how I can maybe get back to the future”

Chapter Text
“So, tell me what happened again” said Hermione, sitting in the living room of the Burrow with her nephew
“I came downstairs, because Bill wanted me to look at the final decorations. I heard Lily and Hugo yelling as they walked out the kitchen door so I went to go see what they were on about, but then I heard Vic yell out my name and how I can’t see her or whatever, and so I shut my eyes and then I heard her stumbling around, and I heard glass smash and a pop, and then there was no noise at all. I opened my eyes and all I saw was that pile of sand and no Victoire”
“So she just vanished?”
“Yes” sighed Teddy, putting his head in his hands “I don’t know where she went”
“What kind of pop was it?” asked Harry “Like a disapparating pop?”
“No it was different I think” said Teddy, lifting his head up and running a hand through his sandy brown hair “And besides, why would she disapparate? Does she not want to marry me that much? Oh god has she ran away? Merlin's beard I hate my life” he put his head back in his hands and felt arms slip around him, holding him. He saw red hair and knew it was his godmother, Ginny.
“Ted, there’s no way she disapparated” a voice spoke up and he recognised it as Domonique, Victoire’s younger sister. “There’s something fishy going on”
“Like what?” asked Ron “It’s not like Voldemort's back” the glares he received from his wife, sister and mother were enough to shut him up and focus his attention on his cup of tea.
“Lily, Hugo” Hermione turned to her son and niece “What did you take from Harry’s office?” both 15 year olds avoided her gaze
“You have to tell us so we can find Victoire” explained Harry “If you don’t we can’t, and that's not good. I have a lot of dangerous things, full of powerful magic in there and we just need to know what it was”
“It was a sand timer thing” said Hugo “Like we have in those muggle board games we play at our Nanna and Grandad's house”
“An hourglass?” asked Ginny “Like the one we found in Moody’s things Harry?”
“I think so” said Harry “Lily, Hugo, can you come with me. I want to see where you found it in the office so we can confirm what it is?” The two teenagers got up and followed Harry out of the room and they heard a pop as they disapparated.
“It’ll be okay Teddy” whispered Ginny “We’ll find her”
“I know” Teddy whispered back tightly “I’m just scared I’ll lose her too” he shoved his palms against his eyes to stop his tears and Ginny hugged him tighter. She didn’t know the best way to comfort him, but she knew she’d try. Luckily, everyone else in the room was distracted by the books Hermione had out, and they’d got everyone else in the family out into the yard.
“Ted, I promise, we will find her” said Ginny “No matter what, we’ll get her back”
“How do you know that though?” Teddy looked up at her with tears glistening in his eyes and Ginny felt her heart break. She gently ushered him into the kitchen and sat in front of him. He sniffed and wiped his eyes on the sleeve of the jumper he had put over the top of his nice white button up. Ginny recognised the jumper as one of Tonks old ones and smiled a little. “I just don’t want to lose her too. She means too much to me. With dad and mum gone, I just, I can’t lose her. She means too much to me. I know she means a lot to all you guys, but she is all I have”
“She’s not gone, don’t worry. She’s just missing. We’ll find her” Ginny looked at him “And Ted, remember, we are still all here for you, and we love you. Me, Harry, James, Al, and Lily. Your grandma and Grandpa, plus your Gran, who is over there right now staring at us and I can tell she wants to hug you. All of your cousins, aunts and uncles here. We all love you, so much. I can’t even begin to think how hard this must be for you, but you’re not alone and we will get her back”
“Thanks Ginny” Teddy stood up and hugged her. She smiled and hugged him tightly. Andromeda met her eye and she nodded for her to come over. Andromeda rushed over and embraced Teddy in a tight hug. Ginny smiled and mouthed ‘thank you’ before slipping away back to the living room where Hermione was pouring over books. Five minutes later Harry, Lily and Hugo came back inside.
“What broke?” asked Ron
“The hour glass full of time turner sand that we found in Mad-eyes things” said Harry grimly
“You’re saying she’s gone back in time?” asked Teddy, walking back into the room with Andromeda’s arms wrapped tightly around him. “Merlin's beard how are we going to find her, she could be anywhere”
“It’s okay Ted. We’ll find her” said Ginny
“But where could she be? She could be anywhere” said Teddy
“I think I know where she is” said Dominique, from where she sat in front of the coffee table, staring at all the different wedding pictures
“Where?” asked Teddy
“Well, I’m not certain. But there’s this person in mum and dads wedding photo, and I’ve never seen them before, but they look a bit like Victoire with dark hair, and…” she trailed off
“And what?” asked Harry
“And they’re standing next to your parents Teddy”
Victoire had now been in 1997 for 2 days, and she missed home. She missed being able to leave the house. She missed not fearing for her life. She missed her family. Mostly, she missed her Teddy. She was enjoying her time in the past though. She loved getting to know the younger versions of her aunts, uncles and grandparents, and of course she was relishing in meeting her dead uncle and in-laws.
“How long is it going to take for them to find me?” asked Victoire one day while everyone was sitting around the Burrow’s kitchen table.
“Well, we’ve done everything we can think of for now” said Tonks “Now we continue our research and hope they’re smart enough to work it out. Although, with Harry, Ron, Hermione on the case I’m sure it’ll be sorted in no time. Rem always said Hermione was the brightest witch of her age and I believe it” She was at the Burrow alone again. Lupin seemed to be coming less and less, Victoire noticed, and she didn't like where it was going.
“I know” said Victoire “I just don’t want to be stuck here forever. I adore you guys, but I know the older versions of you and I prefer being younger than you all”
“Thats fair” said Ginny “I still find it weird I’m your aunt and you’re the same age as Tonks”
“Strange isn’t it” laughed Tonks.
“More tea?” asked Mrs Weasley
“I’ll get it Grandma” Victoire jumped up and grabbed the teapot from her grandma. She was so used to taking the stress off her grandma's shoulders at home it felt only right for her to do it in this time too, when she was arguably more stressed, or at least stressed in a different way.
“Thank you dear” smiled Mrs Weasley, sitting back and smiling. As Victoire boiled the tea, she let her mind wander, wondering what was happening at home.
All the wedding guests that weren’t immediate family had been sent home. Now only the immediate Weasley family, all the cousins, Andromeda, Teddy and Kingsley were sitting around the Burrow, talking. Teddy was sitting anxiously, bouncing his leg while he played a game of chess with Dominique to try and relax his mind. Molly and Lucy were pouring over books with Percy and Hermione, trying to work out something. Kingsley, Harry and Ron were whispering in a corner, throwing glances over at him. The rest of the family were sitting around in various states of panic, and all the cousins were huddled in a corner.
“It's never good when they’re all together” mumbled Dominique as she took one of Teddy’s nights out.
“No” agreed Teddy tightly, biting his nails and prodding one of his pawns forward
“What do you reckon they’re talking about?” Dominique took out his bishop
“Dunno” Teddy tapped a random piece while his mind wandered, wondering if his fiance was okay.
“Checkmate” said Dominique and Teddy sighed. He stared at the board and heard shuffling. Through his floppy fringe he saw his cousins all get up and walk quickly from the room, glancing backwards at everyone. “They’re up to something” whispered Dominique
“I know,” mumbled Teddy. He got up and silently followed his cousins, Dominique, behind him. They peaked round the doorway and saw Fred reaching for the glass of spilled sand. Harry had ordered none of them touch it and had used his wand to clean it up. “Fred!”
“Ah” Fred jumped back from the table “Ted you scared me”
“What are you doing?” asked Dominique
“Well, if Vic is in the past, when we think she is, then uncle Fred is still alive. And I want to meet him” he looked at Ted “You understand right?” Teddy sighed and nodded. Ever since they’d worked out Victoire was probably in 1997 with his parents, he’d wondered if there was a way he could meet them. He knew it would be nearly impossible, but he was desperate to meet them, and he understood how Fred felt.
“I know Fred” Teddy’s harsh expression softened and he walked over to his younger cousin. “Why don’t we talk to Hermione and Harry”
“Thanks Ted,” Fred smiled. Teddy and Dominique turned away to go find their uncle before they heard whispering again and Teddy turned around again.
“And I’ll be taking that with me” he grabbed the jar from his cousin's hand and screwed the lid back on. “We’ll be back” he and Dominique walked away and just as they were exiting the room Teddy tripped and the jar of sand went flying, landing with a loud SMASH on the ground.
Victoire was taking a walk around the yard with Tonks, talking about Teddy. For someone who found out she had less than a year left to live, Tonks was surprisingly upbeat. She was smiling and laughing at the stories Victoire was telling.
“And then, he switched his appearance back from McGonagall and got away with only an hour of detention” Victoire grinned as Tonks laughed.
“Oh I used to do that with Dumbledore” she laughed “We used to prank the staff and students, I’m glad Teddy’s continuing it. McGonagall must like him if she’s not giving him bad detentions”
“She’s known us all since we were little, because we’ve all been going to Hogwarts since we were babies and she’s at family dinners over the summer. Uncle Harry says she loved Ted’s dad and you and probably secretly enjoys it but has to be fair”
“Does Teddy say what they do in detention?” asked Tonks
“Sit down and have cups of tea and talk” smiled Victoire “Her office has always been open to any of us. She’s very sweet, almost like another grandmother for us, just a lot stricter”
“She is honestly so nice” agreed Tonks “I don’t know how much anyone knows about me and my personal experiences during the war, but last year I was severely depressed, and stationed at Hogsmede, and I quite often met McGonagall for tea when I reported back at Hogwarts. We didn’t like each other very much when I was a student, as I broke a lot of rules and she doesn’t tend to like people who do that. But since I joined the order, we’ve gotten a lot closer. I'm glad she and Teddy get along so well” she smiled “I’m glad, even though Remus and I are gone, that Teddy has people in his life looking after him. It really comforts me”
“Ever since I can remember, people have always looked out for Teddy, for all of us, but especially for him. Remus left a lasting impact on the students he taught at Hogwarts, many of which he fought alongside and saved during the battle of Hogwarts too”
“That's so nice to hear, next time Remus is here, if you could tell him that, I’d really appreciate it” Victoire noticed her becoming quiet and decided not to press the matter, but instead gave her some time, looking around the yard and seeing Ginny running towards them.
“Tonks! Victoire!” she yelled. Immediately Tonks perked up and whipped her wand out, looking around for danger, Victoire doing the same. “You have to come quick”
“What's wrong Gin?” asked Tonks
“More people have appeared” said Ginny, out of breath “Victoire they’re looking for you”
“What?!” Victoire took off in a sprint towards the Burrow, leaving the other two behind. As she ran, she couldn’t think of who it could be. Had they followed her, or found a way to bring her home. She wasn’t ready to say goodbye to all these people. Maybe her dad was here, or Uncle Harry. Even Teddy? She missed him so much. She slowed as she reached the house, not hesitating before she burst inside and was met with the sight of her Uncle Percy. Percy wasn’t one for hugs but when she saw someone she knew, Victoire flew at him and hugged him tightly. He held her tightly. When eventually his embrace loosened slightly she looked over to the kitchen table and saw the person she’d been longing to see for the past 2 days. Teddy.
“Teddy!” she cried, throwing herself onto him and being met with the tightest hug ever. She buried her face in his neck and felt a lump form in her throat, swallowing hard to try to get it to go away. The feeling of his familiar embrace was the best feeling, she’d missed it so much.
“Hey Vic” whispered Teddy, she felt his hands run through her hair “How are you?”
“How’d you get here?” she whispered, lifting her head and staring into his eyes, eyes that perfectly matched his mothers.
“Kind of an accident” he laughed sheepishly, “you know how clumsy I am”
“Oh Ted” she hugged him again till she heard the back door open and two sets of footsteps run in. She felt Teddy stiffen in her arms and she lifted her head to see him staring at Tonks, who stared back.
“Mum?”
Notes:
I have not proof read this one but I believe it is pretty solid. Please enjoy :)
