Work Text:
The twins walk side by side on this beautiful sunny aftersoon. Performance had a bag of supplies while Rhythm had an big insulated lunchbox to keep everything warm and toasty. The girls decided today would be a phenomenal day for a picnic. The lack of wind and clouds made for a beautiful afternoon to eat outside, and they seized that opportunity.
"Let's set this up." Rhythm laid down the tarp over the snow. With the hot stew stored into the canisters, the women sit down and prepare their lunch. Taking the utensils out of the insulated lunchboxes, they're warm to the touch! How comforting. Not too hot.
Performance opens her thermos to reveal tons of steam in her face, causing Rhythm to let out a chuckle when she watched her twin sister was surprised by it. "Why are you shocked about steam?"
Performance mumbled her words: "I. I don't know! I guess I just wasn't thinking straight when I decided to open the canister."
"I cannot believe that you're considered a genius amongst many others." Rhythm playfully poked at her sister's reputation. These two inseparable sisters have always teased one another in regards to their silly mess-ups, such as when Rhythm would mistake salt for sugar in a recipe when they were younger. The girls never took eachothers insults to heart, because they knew eachothers intentions way better.
Performance shrugged: "What can I say? I'm not working in the entertainment industry as a Director for nothing. Of course I can act intelligent and mature infront of everyone, but still have my clumsy moments elsewhere."
"And I'm proud to be one of the few people who can witness it." Rhythm took a spoonful of stew from her thermos. A veggie stew she prepared for herself and her dear sister since Performance couldn't cook a proper meal, even if her life depended on it. She never felt the need to get better at it, she can live off of her own less-than-mediocre cooking as long as she can get Rhythm's or Thoughtful Director's leftovers. That is her biggest flaw, but one that Rhythm doesn't mind catering to.
They ate in silence. It was a sign that Rhythm's stew was delicious! While they enjoyed it, the sun's rays were warming up their backs while they overlooked an areay of snowy mountains. After Performance finished her 5th spoonful, she decided to comment on the weather: "My goodness. Isn't that sun just wonderful?"
"Isn't it?! It's as if Megabird herself decided to bless our picnic!" The neat sister looked up from her stew to enjoy this small talk.
"Nah, she would never. Especially since we're, you know... Dating." The young director shrugged her shoulders in a way that portrayed doubt. Rhythm noticed how Performance changed immediately. As her partner in crime, the neat sister decided to sit closer to explain her theory to Performance.
"Mm. I am sure she's already aware, Perfy. But, we're already dead so there isn't much to worry about now, other than the societal consequences. If she truly detested us, she would have gotten rid of us one way or another. Or even just stopped the attraction the second we felt it, just like when we were alive. She may not like us, maybe she does. Who knows? All we can do now is hide from prying eyes and enjoy eachother's presence." Rhythm attempted to comfort her sister, pressing her temple against Performance's. It caused both girls to immediately smile; their cheeks pushed up.
Rhythm snuggled into Performance even further by pushing her cheek against Performance's. They laugh and share a delightful hug after placing down their meal. "I'm so lucky to have such a doting sister!"
"Some people don't even have good, regular relations with their siblings, so you better be grateful that I am here to feed you so much affection." Rhythm placed a sweet kiss on Performance's cheek briefly and returned to their cuddling and sharing a laugh together. Performance leaned back and hit the ground, her head laying on the snow.
The girls began to playfight. With Rhythm trying to pinch her beloved twin and Performance defending herself from Rhythm's merciless hands. As a stylist, she works with her hands frequently and has become a master with them. The defenseless director becomes bombarded with tiny tickles and painless pinches. The two laugh up a storm as Performance tried to hit away Rhythm's hands.
"Phew, that's enough from me." Rhythm laid down onto Performance and hugged the giggling twin. Their arms hold eachother's body dearly against one another. As the warm sun rays drape their cuddling bodies, they fell asleep peacefully.
