Summary
Those who fought to bring a permanent light to the city of Gotham became legends, figures used in stories told at bedtime to try and chase the nightmares away.
Eventually these stories began to be questions as to whether those figures were real or fable. Those who remember a time when the city was able to bask in hopes for a better future swore to the myths’ authenticity. But the darkness which seemed to overrun the city made the younger believe such people could never have existed as the stories were told.
At the very least as with all myths, the stories were different, passed down with changes to better fit the teller and the recipient. Though the details within the stories were changed, where all versions agreed was the ending and who plunged the city back into everlasting darkness.
They all agreed he was once one of the good guys. To the children of his time he was their hero, giving them extra care, especially the street kids. Where the myths diverge is the reason why he turned his back on his team and city. The question constantly asked as if it could change the way things were.
