Chasing the sweetness

Summary:

“‘m fine.” He mumbles, voice muffled by the wooden table. He doesn’t raise his head even when a hand is hesitantly placed on his back, patting him gently a few times.

If he closes his eyes, maybe he can forget for a few moments the way Kaji played with the lollipop, twirling it around in his mouth before sucking it against his cheek.

Haruka wonders which flavor will it be this time. Maybe peaches, if Kaji is in a particular good mood, or strawberry, one of Haruka’s personal favorites - not that he’d let the other know any time soon.

He’s not ready for a new brand of teasing to start - hell, he hasn’t even survived the first one yet.

Or, Sakura has a problem and it comes in the name of Kaji Ren. Since the day he accidentally spilled his deepest desire to Kaji, the other is testing his patience in every way possible, driving him insane.

Needless to say, everything goes downhill from there.

Work Text:

Haruka feels like he’s going crazy and it’s all Kaji’s fault.

Since the day Haruka accidentally blurted out that he likes when Kaji plays with his lollipop, the other makes a show of it whenever they are together.

In his defense, he wasn’t really thinking about what kind of bullshit his mouth was spouting, words flying out in the heat of the moment. He was still out of it, mind completely blown away by the way Kaji had just kissed him.

He remembers that embarrassing moment even weeks later. It had been a long day and, after a long training session, Haruka’s mind was hazy, tired and frustrated by the way his eyes were always drawn to the elder’s lips – lingering there – for whatever reason – be it smirks, teasing remarks or that fucking stupid lollipop.

They were arguing over something stupid like usual, Haruka shouting frustrated and the older respond in kind, when Kaji – finally – had had enough and had taken his head in his hands, crashing their lips together, kissing him fervently, hot and daring, leaving him to want more.

Thinking about it again, it definitely had been Haruka’s own fault – he had taunted the other and Kaji had only responded like he always does.

But now, things were getting out of hand. It was becoming impossible even train with him, as the older tends to taunt him with his words and actions, inevitably attracting Haruka’s undivided attention on his mouth. He doesn’t even stop when there are other people around, knowing damn well that it will get Haruka all flushed up and squirmy.

The only thing that eases a bit Haruka’s mind is that Kaji is known to have a lollipop in his mouth frequently during the day and is seen playing with it so often that it doesn’t raise any warning bells, thus – thankfully – no one is really taken aback by his behavior.

The worst thing, though, is when Kaji licks his lips – a way to savor the lingering taste of the lollipop, like he once told him – making them all shiny and red and kissable, and Haruka feels himself flush up from head to toe, eyes automatically drawn to him. The fucker plays it innocent every time the first-year hisses at him to stop, claiming he doesn’t know what has the other so bothered. Except, he knows exactly what he’s doing, all smug smiles and teasing smirks.

Precisely what’s happening right now.

Once again, Kaji is back at being a public menace and disturbing Haruka. He sits there, at the opposite table at Café Pothos, with his chin propped up against his hand, ignoring the conversations around him as he plays idly with the lollipop in his mouth. He’s seated perfectly in Haruka’s field of vision, smirking and rolling that stupid stick in his mouth, sometimes stealing glances in his direction just to be sure Haruka is still watching.

And Haruka is.

Every. Single. Time.

When he sees the tongue poke between his lips, Haruka groans exasperated, banging his head against the table. Curse him and his loose mouth. He’s completely sure that Kaji wants to kill him – otherwise he can’t explain his behavior.

“Sakura-san, are you okay?” Nirei asks him with his voice laced with concern, “You seem a bit strange today.”

“’m fine.” He mumbles, voice muffled by the wooden table. He doesn’t raise his head even when a hand is hesitantly placed on his back, patting him gently a few times.

If he closes his eyes, maybe he can forget for a few moments the way Kaji played with the lollipop, twirling it around in his mouth, before sucking it against his cheek.

Haruka wonders which flavor will it be this time. Maybe peaches, if Kaji is in a particular good mood, or strawberry, one of Haruka’s personal favorites – not that he’ll let the other know any time soon.

He’s not ready for a new brand of teasing to start – hell, he hasn’t even survived the first one yet.

Squeezing his eyes shut, he tries to shake away the thought, but it’s more difficult than anticipated. It’s like his mind always drifts to Kaji and his stupid lips. They have kissed before, many times, though it’s not like they are in a relationship or something. It just started with them sharing some heated kiss whenever one of them was mad at the other for being careless or inconsiderate during a patrol or a fight. Then, it degenerated with kissing in other moments during the day – just for fun – and now, after Haruka blurted that out, Kaji is having his fun tormenting him.

The way they usually kiss after Haruka is driven up the wall, mad and angry, completely annoyed while Kaji stands there, looking at him with one corner of his lips lifted, blue eyes shining with barely concealed amusement, gaze dark and hungry, it’s always mind blowing. Thinking about it, maybe that’s the reason Kaji is doing this so much.

Images of Kaji, his lips and tongue – of their hot make out sessions – flash through his mind.

Yeah, Haruka grimaces, already feeling his cheeks heat up, thinking about that wasn’t a great idea.

Just as he bangs his forehead against the table once again, his ears catch a little yelp from the person at his side, “Sakura-san, you’re scaring me.”

Shit.

“I’m fine, Nirei.” Haruka turns his head to the side where Nirei is seated, placing his cheek against the cold surface in a vain attempt to cool it down and peeks one eye open, looking through and glancing at his friend’s face.

Nirei has his brows pinched and his lips pursed, worry dances in his eyes as he stares at him not knowing what to do. Haruka can see the way he wrings his hands in his lap, a clear sign of anxiety, and he wants to punch himself for having induced that feeling into his friend.

He didn’t mean to worry him so much. It’s all Kaji’s fault, of his stupid lollipops and of the desire he has to kiss his stupid face every time he sees him.

Sighing, he straightens up from his slouched position sitting properly at the table. Glancing quickly at the other occupants, he catches various degrees of concern on their faces. The only one who seems to hold it a bit more together is Suo, even if the slight pinch between his eyebrows betrays his rising worry.

“Just a bit tired, I guess.” He lies through his teeth, hoping that no one will be able to call him out. Through the corner of his eyes, he can see Kaji staring at him from the other booth. The second year has stopped playing with the lollipop in his mouth, opting to look at him with a carefully blank expression, masking pretty well his emotions. He adverts his gaze quickly before he can get caught. Thankfully, none of them seem to have followed his eyes, “Maybe a headache.”

“Then, you shouldn’t bang your head on the table, Sakura-kun.” Suo tilts his head to the side, studying his face carefully, “It won’t help with the headache.”

“I know, sorry.” Haruka mutters looking at the half-eaten plate in front of him. He shrinks in his Furin jacket, trying to avoid Suo’s analytical gaze, “Didn’t mean to worry you.” He says apologetically in Nirei’s direction, receiving a warm smile in response.

“It’s fine, Sakura-san. Just don’t do it again.” Nirei offers him a sip from his warm drink but Haruka refuses, giving it back to him, “It must be the weather. You should start wearing something warmer.”

The days were starting to get colder, but nothing Haruka couldn’t handle. There was still enough time before he needed to wear hoodies and jackets a bit more covering.

“It’s fine,” He holds back a yawn, propping his arm on the table and resting his chin on his hand. He looks at them from under his lashes, “Maybe I’m just tired.”

Suo hums thoughtfully, eye still not leaving his face. He looks like he doesn’t fully believe him, but, luckily, he doesn’t call him out on it, “Then, perhaps, you should go home.”

This doesn’t seem like a bad idea, maybe in this way he will be able to stop glancing at Kaji and, at least, he will put some distance between them. Sneaking a quick look at him, he finds the blonde in the same place as before, though this time he seems absorbed by his phone. Completely engrossed by it, Kaji doesn’t even see when Hiragi says something and looks at him with a confused expression when he doesn’t reply.

Haruka hums, wondering what could be so interesting to not make him hear the question from his favorite senpai. He returns his attention to his table, finding only Suo and Nirei still on his case. Nodding slowly at their previous words, he mutters in a soft voice, “Maybe in a bit.”

Taking his prolonged silence and hesitant answer as preoccupation about his duties, Nirei reassures him with a small smile, “Yes, Sakura-san, we can take care of things here, don’t worry.”

Before he can open his mouth and thank them, he feels his phone buzz in the pocket of his pants. Taking it out, he steals a glance at the screen, careful at not being spotted by the curious eyes of his friends. Tapping over it, he finds a new message from Kaji.

Kaji: Everything okay?

Haruka blinks at the message, looking lost for a few seconds. He rereads it two times before concluding that it’s really there and not a mere trick of his imagination. It’s not like they’ve never messaged each other before, but this seems so random that he doesn’t know how he should react.

Raising his head slowly, he meets Kaji’s gaze. A small frown on his face, his blue eyes burn into him with curiosity and something akin to worry, seemingly able to read even his soul with the intensity they spread. His own mismatched ones drop to Kaji’s lips when he sees the older remove the empty stick of the lollipop from his mouth, licking his lips like he always does to have a last taste of the sweet.

Haruka mimics the gesture like an afterthought, cursing himself a second later when he sees those lips curl in a teasing smirk, a subtle quirk of the corner of his mouth. Raising his gaze, he finds amusement dancing in the blue irises. When Kaji lifts an eyebrow, Haruka remembers that he didn’t respond in the first place, so he slowly nods, keeping his eyes steady in his, gold and silver against blue.

He feels himself sink into those gems, unable to shake them away, completely caged by their intensity. Releasing a shaky breath, Haruka forces himself to advert his gaze and point it again to his table. Raising his hand, he touches his temples gently, closing his eyes in a last attempt to avoid Suo’s curious gaze and to help the dizziness he feels raising go away. The phone buzzes again in his hands and he tiredly looks at the screen one more time.

Kaji: Are you sick?

Sakura: I’m fine.

Huffing a bit, Haruka glances up finding Kaji’s eyes once again. His brows are furrowed more prominently while he stares at him, carefully studying his expression. Haruka’s heart misses a beat at the blatant concern the other shows him. He scowls, willing that traitorous muscle to stop moving on his own for trivial reasons.

He stares at the second year just to be sure Kaji received the message, thinking this is the last of their interaction, but the blonde doesn’t advert his gaze, keeping him anchored. Tsugeura’s boisterous laugh breaks him free from his reverie and Haruka adverts his gaze, blinking a few times to return to the present and rubbing his temples once again.

He doesn’t catch the worried look his friends share, too busy thinking about how that blue cage still calls his name.

“You should go home, Sakura-chan.” Kiryu says, mistaking that gesture as the telltale sign of sickness, urging him to take care of his health, “You don’t need to stay here for us.”

He lets his eyes travel over the table, looking dejectedly at where Kotoha’s omurice lays, half-eaten, disappointed that he wasn’t able to enjoy it completely due to the continuous distraction.

“Kotoha-san will understand.” Suo’s lips quirk up in a small smile, so subtle that he almost misses it. He knows that but he hates when the food goes to waste. And he was really looking forward to that omurice.

Pouting, Haruka shares a glance with him and Suo points in Kotoha’s direction with a slight tilt of his head. She seems busy dealing with a whining Umemiya at the counter, snickering with Tsubaki as the other third year teases their friend. A smirk and a teasing remark are on the tip of her tongue when she looks at the way the Bofurin leader shakes his head, hands in his hair, pouting childishly.

Sighing, he nods, getting up ready to leave, “Call me if something happens.” Haruka stares at Suo, unblinking in front of his friend’s smiling face, “Anything.”

“Will do.” His friend nods, smile reaching his eye.

Haruka notices the way his lone eye steals a glance in the direction of the other booth, where he knows Kaji and the other second years are, but he doesn’t give it importance. Like it didn’t happen, Suo’s eye points on him again, sending him a last long look that he can’t decipher. With a nod to the others and a little wave in Kotoha’s direction, he gets out of the café, letting the door close at his back.

Taking a few steps away from the entrance, he breathes deeply the chill air of the afternoon, filling his lungs. He closes more his Furin jacket when a shiver runs down his spine and can’t help but think that, maybe, Nirei was right – he should start wearing something warmer with the weather changing.

Shrugging, he starts to walk in the direction of his house with his hands buried deep inside his pockets. He nods towards some vendors who kindly greet him when he passes near their shops, offering a few bags full of food.

The quiet peace of the afternoon envelops him like a soft blanket, seeping through his bones and making him relax, removing the tense set his shoulders had taken inside the noisy café.

A few meters away from Pothos, the quiet bubble gets broken as he hears some steps following him. The hairs at the back of his neck raise in alert, sending alarming bells and putting him in a fight stance. From the sound of the shoes on the ground, he knows that is only one person. Tacking a few wrong turns around the neighborhood, he tries to understand if the person is really following him or just walking in the same direction, even if that is quite unlikely, given the part of town he lives in.

When they follow every single side route he takes, he’s certain there is someone after him. He turns his head to the side, glancing at them from the corner of his eyes. The only thing he’s able to spot is a dark jacket, the face obscured by the black hood. The person is not too tall, with few centimeters over him, and probably around his age.

Deciding to not let the other know he’s aware of them, he returns on the main street, slowing his pace down to something more casual and looking around to decide where to act. If he remembers correctly, there should be an alley perfect for his plan some meters ahead.

Increasing his pace, he turns around a corner and disappears from sight, hiding quickly behind another one and waiting for the person to appear. He hears the steps slow down as if the person is confused by his sudden disappearance. Without giving the other enough time to process what’s about to happen, Haruka jumps on him.

Holding out his hand blindly, he grips the jacket and shoves the person against the wall eliciting a groan, one arm firmly pressed under his throat, the other clenched in a fist ready to punch at any given moment. A soft, strangled sound and a grunt reach his ears when he presses his arm more against him. Snarling, Haruka opens his mouth to insult him, ready to raise his leg against his stomach, prepared to kneel him in the guts, but he stops in his tracks when he recognizes Kaji’s face.

“What the hell?” he asks with wide eyes, letting out a surprised sound, “Why are you following me like this?”

He moves away the arm around his throat, relaxing his grip and unclenching his hand, letting his leg fall on the ground again. Haruka takes a few steps back, remaining still close enough to crowd him against the wall.

“Glad to know you’re aware of your surroundings.” Kaji smirks, letting his head fall back against the wall with a soft thud. With Kaji leaning back this way, Haruka can glimpse the round form of the headphones resting around his neck, half-covered by the hoodie he’s wearing. The usual lollipop is nowhere in sight, “You know, if I had a knife, you would have already got stabbed.” He says, with a dark edge to his tone.

He recognizes it as the tone Kaji usually uses when he thinks that Haruka did something stupid and dangerous and is careful at pointing it out, in a way the younger won’t perceive badly.

“Shut up.” Haruka grumbles, rolling his eyes and reaching up to remove the black hood, letting it fall down to reveal his blonde hair. He lets his hand drop against the collar of the hoodie, gripping weakly the fabric in his twist, “Why are you here?”

Kaji looks at him from under his lashes with a dark gaze, studying his face long enough to make Haruka fidget nervously, “I saw you get out of Pothos.” Kaji’s hand shoots out to block him from getting too far away when Haruka tries to take a step back. He grips the bottom of his jacket, holding him close as a small frown takes place over his face, dropping his voice to a softer tone, “I wanted to know if everything was okay.”

His heart skips a beat when the implication of the words hits him.

Haruka raises his eyebrow, incredulous, “And you had to follow me like a damn stalker?” He takes some steps closer, slowly reducing the distance between their bodies, “Couldn’t you call for me like any normal person?”

Kaji shrugs, leaning better against the wall and accommodating Haruka’s body against his. Crowding against him like this, Haruka is able to distinguish the different shades of blue present in his eyes. Kaji raises his chin higher to maintain the eye contact as Haruka takes one more step closer. He instinctively leans in when Kaji wets his lips, eyes tracking the movement.

He stares at the way his tongue peeks through, lingering with his gaze on his mouth and starting to feel his head spin. Haruka closes his eyes, biting back a groan as he lets his head fall against Kaji’s shoulder with a gentle thud, mindful of the headphones resting near his neck.

The blonde lets out a surprised sound, freezing against the wall, “What the hell?” Kaji lets go of his jacket, quickly raising his arms, surprised by the unexpected action. He hovers with his hands awkwardly around Haruka’s frame, not really sure of what to do with them, “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.” Haruka mumbles, hiding his face better. Kaji knocks his head gently with his own, nose brushing between his white hair. His cheek presses gently against the top of his head for a moment. Haruka moves his hand lower, gripping the black hoodie at Kaji’s waist and letting out a shaky breath.

“You don’t seem fine.” He feels Kaji’s arm wrap around his lower back, grip strong and steady, anchoring him against his body. Haruka squeezes his eyes at the contact, feeling the flush travel up over his features, “Did something happen?” The concern that laces Kaji’s words arrives perfectly well at his hear, making his heart squeeze painfully in his chest, “Sakura-”

“I’m fine.” He repeats with a firm tone, interrupting him. Haruka raises his head to glance at him with a frustrated expression, finding his frowning one already set on him.

Kaji stares at him for a moment, contemplating him silently. Uneasiness creeps in his chest under his scrutiny, his sharp gaze never leaving his face even when Haruka starts to fidget nervously. He can see the moment the realization dawns on him and braces himself for the teasing that’s about to come.

“Ah.” Amusement flickers in his gaze, lighting up his blue eyes. Haruka closes his eyes, avoiding his amused gaze and tries to hide back against his shoulder, but warm fingers wrap around his chin – so, so carefully – holding him back, thumb softly brushing against the skin of his jaw in a father-like touch. His heart rate picks up, so fast and loud that Haruka wonders if Kaji is able to hear it given the close distance. He could easily break out of Kaji’s grip, yet he decides against it, remaining put, but maintaining his eyes closed – a last, desperate way to shield himself – from what, he’s not so sure, “If you wanted to kiss me, you could have just said so.”

He sounds so smug and completely unbothered, but the slight weaver in his tone is enough for Haruka to know that Kaji is affected exactly like him, maybe a bit nervous too. Haruka can hear the smirk permeating his words and can easily visualize the way his lips are lifted at the corner of his mouth, teasing and amused, brightening up his pretty features. He can almost picture in his mind the way his blue eyes are light up, a sharp gleam that betrays the way Kaji is excited at the prospect.

“I don’t want to kiss you.” Haruka grits his teeth, feeling his cheeks heat up at the implication. He resolutely keeps his eyes closed even when Kaji clicks his tongue, mockingly. His thumb skims along his jaw, sending shivers through his body.

“Yeah?” Haruka opens his eyes so quickly that he gives himself whiplash. He stares in his amused ones, feeling the irritation raise and cloud his remaining judgement, making the embarrassment he was feeling before a mirage of the past. Haruka grips his collar hard with both hands, wrenching Kaji’s head closer to his, glaring at him. Narrowing his eyes in front of the mischievous glint he sees dance in the elder’s ones, Haruka braces himself for what the blonde is about to say, “Your body says otherwise, though.”

“Shut up.” He growls, moving him closer – as if it was even possible – harsh words and brash actions, “Shut. Up.

Before Kaji can utter a single word, Haruka crashes his lips against his in a hard kiss. They immediately fall apart with a low groan, letting their tongues meet in a harsh dance, teeth clashing, nose bumping.

Shit. He has wanted to do this the whole day.

Huffing out in amusement, Kaji cups his head gently, leaning back for half a second and guiding their mouth back together once again, less forceful but not less intense. He lets Kaji take ahold of the kiss almost immediately, senses completely overcome and mind blank.

Kaji swipes his tongue against his lower lip, making him part his mouth once again with a soft sound. Haruka gasps when Kaji’s hand sneaks in his mismatched hair, tangling between his locks and tugging at it until Sakura tilts his head to the side just the way he wants to devour him better.

Haruka sighs when a sweet taste invades his mouth, filling his senses. He almost smiles in the kiss, chasing the sweetness.

Strawberry.

He licks in his mouth, following the sweet taste on his tongue. With shaky fingers, he moves one of his hands to Kaji’s neck, thumb brushing against his jaw, fisting the other in his hoodie. He feels his legs tremble as Kaji bites hard on his bottom lip – almost drawing blood – pulling at it with his teeth, just to soothe it out a second later with his tongue. He can feel one of Kaji’s hand travel down his body, modeling along the curve of his hip where it rests, grip bruising, warm even over the jacket.

He feels out of breath, lightheaded, head fuzzy. He can’t even tell if it’s from the lack of air or their closeness anymore. His heartbeat picks up again when Kaji’s touch travels, exploring the expanse of his back, soft and careful, a stark contrast with the way he kisses him, like a man starved, full of tongue and teeth, greedy, devouring even his soul in the process, igniting a new flame inside his body.

He tries to meet him with the same passion, responding in kind, but it’s hard when all these emotions swirl in his chest, consuming him from the inside and confusing his mind. Yanking at his blonde hair, Haruka hears him moan against his mouth and smiles, pride spreading in his chest at having been able to pull a sound like that from him. He leans back to look at him and feels his breath catch in his throat for reasons not related to the last minutes.

With his pupils dilated, lips red and swollen with kisses, hair disheveled, Kaji looks completely devastated, even if he was the one conducing the game. Haruka can’t help but stare at him in awe with his lips parted, chest heaving. His heart beats so loudly, trashing against his ribs that he almost thinks it’s trying to leap out his chest, breaking free from its cage.

“It wasn’t so hard, was it?” Kaji’s lips curl up in a smug smirk and Haruka is possessed by the sudden urge to punch his face – hard.

Amusement flickers in his gaze, lighting up his blue eyes, almost like he heard his thoughts. Haruka marvels at the way they crinkle at the corner, like they usually do when Kaji is really happy about something and breaks his composure, showing things of himself to others.

Haruka clicks his tongue, hiding the fact that he secretly enjoyed it, “God, you’re insufferable.” He rolls his eyes, fighting the smile that threatens to erupt on his face when he hears Kaji’s quiet laugh. He likes the way it makes his chest warm and his fingers tremble.

Taking him by surprise, Kaji leans in stealing another kiss. He presses his mouth gently against his, making Haruka gasp when his tongue lazily travels along his lips, quietly asking for an entrance. Compliantly, the younger opens his mouth to give him total access. The way Kaji curls his tongue against his in a slow, teasing motion, lazily following his own around, slowly gets to his head, making it spin, and Haruka tightens his hold on his hoodie in a desperate attempt to remain upright.

Despite their closeness, he presses even closer to his body, desperately trying to find some support when his legs shake under the intensity of the kiss. Haruka shivers when Kaji moves his arm around his back, holding him up against his body possessively, not letting him fall.

“Kaji…” exhaling a shaky breath, Haruka dives right back in, capturing his lips in a new kiss. Kaji responds immediately, gripping his hair and angling his head to the side, not wasting a single moment to deepen the kiss. Haruka is unable to bite back a moan when Kaji’s tongue finds his, tangling them together and fighting a lost battle, licking in his mouth and carrying along his sweet taste.

Breaking off from his lips, Haruka clumsily presses a kiss at the corner of his lips, then on his jaw, lips distending in a small grin when Kaji exhales a soft sigh, fingers trembling in their hold in his hair. Kaji lets his head fall back against the wall, letting out a shaky breath and pressing Haruka’s face more against his neck, in an attempt to give him more access.

Reinvigorated by his positive response, Haruka leaves a trail of kisses down the column of his neck, nibbling softly at his skin. Euphoria and excitement twirl in the younger’s belly, making him feel dizzy and bolder. He feels Kaji’s breath hitch when he bites harder on his neck, licking the same place immediately after to ease the pain. Haruka himself has to hold back a groan when Kaji’s hand tightens his grip in his hair.

In the back of his mind, Haruka vaguely registers that they are in a public alley where everyone could bump into and see them in this state, completely lost in each other. Despite that, he doesn’t find it in himself to really care about that possible development and continues with his task.

Having had enough – and secretly missing his lips – the bi-colored teen travels back to his mouth, pressing his lips against Kaji’s for the hundredth time in the last minutes. Slowly, the kiss changes into something lazier and calmer, not the heated make out of before.

He feels the older sigh softly against his mouth, hand carding gently through his bi-colored hair, traveling at the back of his head where it rests, cradling him against his face. The arm wound around his waist moves him closer, letting him rest against his body. The gentle way the action is portrayed is enough to make his heart rate increase again and he feels his cheek heat up, burning.

“Anyone could see us.” Kaji murmurs against his mouth, lips chasing his when Haruka draws back to breath. He opens his mismatched eyes to stare at the blonde and can’t help but marvel at the sight in front of him. He looks so handsome like this – hair disheveled, red lips, raw and bitten, a soft flush over his cheeks. Haruka swallows loudly, heartbeat picking up once again, “We should go.” Before he can say anything, Kaji leans in to press a kiss on his cheek, effectively cutting off any reply, “before they come looking for us.”

Haruka knows he’s right, that they should leave before their friends can make this route to check on him, worried for his health – but he doesn’t want this to end.

Kaji cradles gently his head between his hands, stopping him just as Haruka tries to kiss him again, and bites back a smile when the younger frowns.

“Fine.” He rolls his eyes, a pout already forming on his lips. His bad mood disappears the instant Kaji leans down with a swift motion, brushing his lips against Haruka’s in a soft kiss. It’s over too soon, but he doesn’t have the force to complain, “What did you tell them?” He asks then, curious.

He forgot to ask before, too enraptured in Kaji’s presence, but he really wants to know what he told the others when he left Pothos to go after him.

Pushing his hair behind his ear, Kaji skims his jaw with his thumb, leaning close enough for their noses to brush, “That I had an errand to run.” The blonde leans forward to connect their lips once again in a chaste kiss that Haruka wastes no time in reciprocating. He feels his lips tingle pleasantly even when they break apart, “But they could start come looking for us.”

Haruka knows that. Closing his eyes, he lets his forehead fall gently against Kaji’s. He feels the ghost of the elder’s lips brush against his right cheek, then the corner of his mouth. Pressing closer, he lets Kaji guide him into a new kiss, much slower and more tender than the lasts. Haruka sighs softly as Kaji sets the pace, lazily deepening the contact.

The tender, yet firm way Kaji cradles his jaw, the soft sighs he elicits and the lazy pace he sets make something – undefined – squirm in Haruka’s belly, waking up some emotion he can’t decipher.

“Alright,” Haruka stares at the blonde’s lips once they separate again, eyes tracking the way Kaji’s tongue wets them, already mourning their loss, “Let’s go.”

“Go where?” Kaji asks, raising an eyebrow. Despite the obvious confusion he shows on his face, he doesn’t put much resistance when Haruka takes his wrist, pulling him along in the direction of his house before he can ask anything else.

They step out of the dark alley, shielding their eyes at the sudden burst of bright light that hits them once they enter the main street again. Kaji slides his fingers between Haruka’s with gentle movements, lacing them together with a practiced ease that speaks volumes of the number of times he has done this before.

With few gentle tugs, Kaji takes his place at his side, following him silently. Their intertwined hands are slightly covered by the long sleeve of Kaji’s hoodie, giving them a sense of security only betrayed by the faint pink that spreads on their cheeks.

Letting out a soft sigh, Haruka glances at him from the corner of his eyes, finding his blue ones already set on him, “Home, obviously.”

“Do you think Sakura-chan knows that we know about their relationship?”

Suo hums thoughtfully under his breath, before he shakes his head in denial. He takes one sip of his tea before declaring, “I don’t think so.”

Kiryu hums, looking as Kaji gets up a few minutes after Sakura to follow him outside. Eyes pointed on the retreating figure of the second year, he almost doesn’t notice the way Hiragi changes the conversation when the others start to ask where the second-grade captain is going – and why he’s going alone.

He sees Hiragi stare at his friend with an indecipherable expression before turning around and fall into an easy conversation with the other third year at his side.

So, Kiryu muses, they’re not the only ones who think something is going on between those two.

He needs to give that to them, they have been stealthy. Suo and him started to suspect something was happening only recently. Given the way they look at each other and are comfortable around one another, the thing must have been going on for longer. He doesn’t think anyone else caught up on it, but it’s better to be sure.

“Let’s keep it this way, Suo-chan.” Kiryu feels Suo’s heavy gaze on him, but he doesn’t move his eyes away from the same door the two have disappeared through, “Let’s give them more privacy.”

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Haruka hears Kaji ask softly as he nuzzles contentedly against his neck, eyes shut closed and half-asleep.

They are sprawled against his futon, Haruka almost all over Kaji’s body, head nestled against the crook of his neck, one leg tangled between the blonde ones and Kaji’s arms wound around his back, in a strong and possessive hold.

His lips tingle pleasantly after all the kisses they shared. His chest warms when Kaji starts to card his fingers between his bi-colored hair, scratching lightly against the scalp and accompanying him in a soft slumber, not helping at all in keeping him tethered to the real world.

Kaji nudges his head gently when Haruka doesn’t give him a response and the younger blinks a few times, trying to remember what was asked of him.

Closing his eyes again, Haruka smiles contentedly, “Yeah,” he murmurs. His fingers curl in the soft fabric of Kaji’s hoodie and he sighs softly, “I am.”

He could swear he feels the soft press of Kaji’s lips against his head before he falls asleep, but maybe it’s just his tired mind playing tricks.

“You fucker,” Haruka hisses, scowling when he’s met with Kaji’s smirking face. He presses one hand on the wall near Kaji’s face, leaning closer to whisper, “Stop playing with me.”

“What?” Kaji rests against the wall at his back, tongue playing with the lollipop in his mouth, and looking at him with half-lidded eyes, “What’s wrong? I thought you liked it.”

Yeah, too much apparently.

“You know exactly what’s wrong.” Haruka glares at him. Here, in an empty classroom, in front of each other, Haruka can’t decide what he wants to do more – if kiss him senseless or punch him. He leans down more in his direction, shivering when Kaji’s gaze sharpens, full of poorly concealed interest, “Stop it.”

Kaji makes a thoughtful sound, making the lollipop click against his teeth. He takes it out of his mouth, holding it in his hand. Absently, the blonde licks his lips, savoring the taste one more time. Haruka finds his eyes driven to the movement, like in a trance, following the way his lips curl up in amusement as he steps even closer, shoes bumping into Kaji’s, with only few centimeters separating their faces.

“Let me think about it.” Kaji wraps his hand around the back of Haruka’s neck, pulling him closer and Haruka’s hand shoots down to grip the bottom of his hoodie. He pretends to ponder over his words, “No.” the blonde clicks his tongue, “I don’t think I can.”

The last thing Haruka sees is Kaji’s smirk flash over his pretty features, before the older dives in and kisses him hungrily.

In the back of his mind, he registers the flavor. Peaches, this time.

He hums softly in the kiss, Kaji must be in a good mood today.

“You fucking-” Haruka growls out, gripping at his hoodie tighter when Kaji bites harshly at his bottom lip, feeling the blonde’s lips stretch in a smirk against his mouth. He leans back to insult him but is stopped by Kaji’s expression.

A sharp gleam lights up his blue eyes, making Haruka’s lips twitch in return. Kaji moves in for another kiss, guiding him gently with the hand pressed at the back of his neck and Haruka meets him halfway, letting him do whatever he wants, because, in the end, who is he to stop this?
