An Unsociable Rabbit

Summary:

Even after the truck incident, Blue Cop and Mega Trucker still have a hard time getting along. It doesn't help that Blue Cop isn't the most social, but that doesn't stop the start of a friendship and, maybe, something more?

Work Text:

Deus Machina, he hates this.

Well, hate is a strong word which doesn’t accurately show his emotions. A word like dislike is more accurate, but the word he needs isn’t one he can think of at the moment.

Now, you might be thinking, “Blue Cop, what do you dislike so much?” Well in very simple terms it’s

Socialization.

Insane, he knows, but he just doesn’t like it. He didn’t like it before he became a Star Guardian and he still dislikes it. For years he would keep to himself, mostly focusing on his training to become a Star Guardian. Even after he became one he focused on his assignments and missions. He only interacted with others when he needed to.

He could do group work, but it was just easier to do it on his own. The only person he actually got close to was Flam…. Never mind.

But now that Machina is gone, he has to interact with others. He doesn’t have a choice in the matter. Deus Machina gave him the Metal Breath and told him to find his friend. He still doesn’t fully understand, but since the Metal Breath chose Jun he’ll do his best to protect and help him.

It wasn’t that bad interacting with Jun, all things considered. He was a good, energetic kid who didn’t mind that Blue Cop didn’t know how to respond sometimes. Jun was the one mostly talking during the conversations with Blue Cop adding something here or there. He’s been contributing more to them after seeing Jun light up whenever he did. Blue Cop actually enjoyed Jun’s company which is weird considering he couldn’t stand some of his fellow Star Guardians even after years of working together.

Jun’s fine, amazing actually, it was Mega Trucker he didn’t like. Maybe he just got along better with humans than Metal Cardbots or something, but being in Mega Trucker’s vicinity was torture. Another strong word, more like hyperbole.

It may have to do with their interactions before Jun that caused this. Mega Trucker was someone on Machina who would regularly make dance parties which disturbed the surrounding area with all the different cardbots dancing and the loud music. So even though he was a minor criminal, he was still cautious around Star Guardians. And their first meeting didn’t help.

Blue Cop was patrolling the streets when he heard several screams. When he rushed to the source he saw several humans running away with Mega Trucker standing nearby, looking confused. When he confronted him, Mega Trucker got defensive, they fought, and then Mega Trucker retreated. Blue Cop will admit, he did come off a bit too strong, but he blames that on being on a new planet with different customs and not socializing with anyone in a long while.

Hey! Even introverts like him, sadly, need socialization, no matter how much he dislikes it.

Anyway, ever since Mega Trucker got sealed, they couldn’t get along. The dump truck would never listen to him! Always just dancing away to music without a care in the world! As if they didn’t have a responsibility to help find the other Metal Cardbots!

Blue Cop has told him time and time again about that, but it seemed like he didn’t care! What an annoying mech! He didn’t understand how Jun got along with him.

While thinking about this he soon heard the sound of music float through the doors. He sighed, why did Jun do this to him?

Jun had caught on to the fact that they didn’t get along too well, even after the truck incident, so he let them out of the Metal Breath at Edo’s workshop for them to bond while he was at school.

He left with a smile on his face while waving his hand in the air, expecting them to be better friends once he came back. He didn’t want to disappoint Jun, but there is a reason why he was outside the shop at the moment. The music Mega Trucker was playing was loud and annoying and he couldn’t stand it! He left to have some time to himself.

He tried to ignore the music, but it caught his attention. Confused, Blue Cop listened closer, it wasn’t the type of music Mega Trucker usually played. He liked loud, fast paced songs, like Latina Música. This was the opposite of that, being softer and slower.

Blue Cop was going to turn around, but the approaching steps of Mega Trucker stopped him. He kept his optics on the sky, clear skies, not a cloud in sight, and listened as Mega Trucker sat down beside him.

For a moment, no one said anything. The only sound being the music, still drifting through the air. Mega Trucker then groaned and turned to look at him. “You’re terrible at talking to people, yeah?” He phrased it as a question, but it was a statement. And what a direct statement it was! He was honestly tempted to respond with, ‘No scrap’ but didn’t. What he did say was, “What makes you think that?” Still looking to the skies.

He could feel Mega Trucker’s optics on him, watching him, and Blue Cop refused to look. He heard him shift before stating, “Y’know, I heard a lot about you on Machina.” That got his attention, being a Star Guardian did make him famous, but hearing it come from Mega Trucker was something else.

That made Blue Cop glance at Mega Trucker, “What have you heard?” he questioned. “How you were a shut in.” He shrugged. Blue Cop was going to hit him upside the helm. “You were the mysterious Star Guardian whose public appearances were few and far in between. Whose voice has, apparently, never been heard.” Mega Trucker was making gestures throughout this, exaggerating his story.

Blue Cop hadn’t paid much attention to gossip and rumors back on Machina. He was too focused on his work to pay attention. But he wasn’t exactly wrong. The few times he did make a public appearance he tried his best to make it quick to get back to his work. He didn’t even talk as much, mostly because he was scared he would stutter in the face of the crowds.

But Blue Cop was wondering why Mega Trucker would even bring this up in the first place, what good did it do for him? “Gotta say, wasn’t expecting me to give you trouble, Oh mysterious Star Guardian.” Mega Trucker jokes, looking at him with a smile.

He huffed, and didn’t, he did not, pout, “I was just going easy on you, don’t let it go to your helm.” Mega Trucker laughed at that, slamming his hexa-lateral scapula. Blue Cop jolted away and Mega Trucker stopped. He looked a little guilty, “Heh, Sorry.”

Blue Cop shook himself off, “It’s fine.” They both resumed watching the sky. After a while, Mega Trucker spoke again, “Wanted to know what else I heard?” Well, curiosity killed the cat, and he hoped satisfaction would bring it back. “Sure.”

“You were one of the best Star Guardians.” That caught Blue Cop off guard, he finally turned to look at Mega Trucker. He was staring directly at Blue Cop. The intensity made Blue Cop heat up a bit.

“Always doing work, every single day. Never taking a break, always moving and doing something.” Mega Trucker leaned forward a bit, “One of the most loyal Star Guardians.” Blue Cops optics took on a pink hue, embarrassed at hearing praises about him and flustered at how close Mega Trucker was.

It was weird to hear praises about himself from someone other than his superiors. The other Star Guardians distanced themselves from him due to his unsociable attitude, while others were jealous of him. And he didn’t spend a lot of time with civilians or any other groups. Did people really believe that about him?

“Why are you saying this?” Blue Cop questioned. Mega Trucker shrugged once more, leaning back but still sitting closer than he was before. “Just wanted to remind you about yourself. You seem like you need it.” Oh, he was trying to cheer him up. How… sweet of Mega Trucker.

He had to admit, maybe he was getting stuck in his helm. It was hard for him, whenever something happened he would focus on that and spiral. It happened before he became a Star Guardian and still happens now. He just got better at hiding it.

Blue Cop sighed, relaxing a smudge, “How did you know.” He questioned as he listened to the music. Letting it calm himself down. Mega Trucker optics upturned as he answered, “You’re not as stoic as you believe, Blue.” Blue?!- Machina, Mega Trucker, was going to kill him.

“Really?” Blue Cop questioned. Mega Trucker nodded, “Real easy to see when you’re stressed. You tend to go off more, and your plating sits tightly against your frame. You flex your servos and you keep your braces tightly against the sides of your frame.” He.. noticed all of that? He took the time to notice all of that?

“Uh-Ahem, You.. You noticed all of that?” Mega Trucker nodded at him. Blue Cop tilted his helm at him, “Why?” He genuinely wanted to know. Most people tended to just see him as someone stuck up due to his personality and never looked deeper. So seeing someone actually look deeper is weird for him. He finds he doesn’t mind it.

Mega Trucker lets out a sigh, “Listen, even though we don’t really get along, I do want to be friends with you. And friends have to look out for each other, just like Jun said, yeah?” He gives a smile to Blue Cop and holds his servo out in a fist bump, “So how about we’d be friends and look out for each other?”

Huh?

Oh.

Blue Cop was most definitely overheating by this point, he wouldn’t even be surprised if steam was coming off him. Mega Trucker was really something else, huh? Someone really kind. He was just too stuck in his helm to see it, only focusing on the negative traits. But Mega Trucker did have some positive traits to him. Very pleasant positive traits.

Blue Cop looked into Mega Trucker’s optics, saw the sincerity in them, and brought his fist against Mega Trucker’s. “I’d like that. I’d like that very much, Mega Trucker.” Blue Cop smiled back at him. The dump truck lit up at his acceptance and in the next moment, had his braces wrapped around his midsection, lifting him up into the air.

Blue Cop was caught off guard, but unlike the earlier touch it wasn’t bad. Mega Trucker hugged him tightly and exclaimed, “ALRIGHT!! We’re friends now so that means we gotta celebrate! C’mon! We gotta have a dance party, Blue!” Mega Trucker looked up at Blue Cop, resting his helm against Blue Cop’s chassis.

Blue Cop chuckled a bit, “I cannot dance Mega Trucker.” Mega Trucker rolled his optics, “Cannot dance, Deus Machina, I can’t believe what I’m hearing! Every Mech can dance! C’mon I’ll show ya’ some moves!” He put Blue Cop down and ran back into the shop, yelling at Blue Cop to follow him, still using that nickname.

Blue Cop stayed where he was, watching Mega Trucker, holding his servo against his chassis. He was still hung up on the feeling of Mega Trucker holding him in the air, looking at him like the only mech in the world. He shook his helm and followed after him. Ready to learn some dance moves.

He couldn’t wait to see where this friendship goes.
