“Erm Blitzo? Why do you look so tired?” Stolas asked.
The young prince had arrived at the circus grounds and saw Blitzo trudging to the house, flopping onto the porch with a pout. Curious and concerned for his friend, Stolas immediately got out from the limo and went to his side. He got a handkerchief to dab the sweat off his face, worried he might be dehydrated or something.
“Thanks Stolas but I’m okay. Just a little frustrated I missed it again…” Blitzo panted, taking the cloth and wiping his brow.
“Missed what?” He wondered.
“The ice cream truck. I was so close but my little legs couldn’t catch up and I’m not supposed to run after it if it’s too far from the grounds.” Blitzo explained, crossing his arms and grumbling. “I want my Rocket Pop, dang it!”
“And this ice cream tastes good?” Stolas guessed, surprising Blitzo a bit.
“Are you kidding? Getting to enjoy an ice cream after chasing the truck on a hot afternoon? That’s paradise my friend.” Blitzo told him, almost looking poetic in a way.
“Well that does sound nice. I’ve never had one before.” The prince admitted, causing the imp to sit up in pure shock.
If a record scratch could’ve sounded in that moment, it would have. A child never having an ice cream truck treat?! Ever?!
“You…you never had an ice cream from a truck?” Blitzo began slowly, turning to his friend with a look of horror on his face.
“I can’t say I have. Although it does sound fun.” Stolas smiled.
Tiredness be damned, Blitzo stood up with a look of determination on his face.
“Emergency meeting in my room!” He declared.
(…)
It took a bit of time but a small group was gathered in the larger bedroom. Blitzo knew he’d need all the help he could get so with the help of his friends and sister, he’d be set. And with a certain someone just happening to be in town, this plan was starting to unfold.
Blitzo paced back and forth as Stolas, Fizz, and Barbie sat on Blitzo’s bed with looks of utter confusion. Barbie was a little annoyed she was dragged away from playing in her room but the look on her brother’s face said this meant business. Fizz was a little nervous about whatever scheme Blitzo had in mind since he didn’t want to get in trouble but he decided to suck it up and listen to whatever he had to say.
Plus he was bored after practice.
“You’re probably wondering why I brought you all here.” Blitzo began, not noticing as Barbie rolled her eyes.
“Well yeah you dragged us upstairs like a lunatic.” she snarked.
“What’s wrong?” Fizz asked.
“Well I have come to learn something quite disturbing…” Blitzo told them before giving them a grave look. “Stolas has never had ice cream from an ice cream truck!”
Fizz, Barbie, and the mystery guest gasped in horror; a kid never having the joy of getting an ice cream from a truck?! That was horrible!
“Wait they don’t have ice cream trucks drive by your place?” Fizz asked, turning to Stolas.
“I can’t say I have ever done that.” Stolas told him.
“You’ve never heard that tune from outside and waited to chase the truck down?” Barbie questioned.
“I don’t think I could. I’m usually inside so if I heard the truck, it’d be too late by the time I would get outside.” Stolas shrugged.
“It is a truly distressing situation.” Blitzo sighed, shaking his head before giving them a hopeful look. “But that’s going to change today! If we’re gonna get Stolas his first ever ice cream truck treat, we gotta work together!”
“Sir yes sir!” The group sounded off.
“That’s what I like to hear!” Blitzo grinned. “Any questions?”
Barbie glanced to her left, gesturing in confusion. “Yeah uh…why is he here?”
The group turned to see Chaz, looking just happy to be included, sitting next to Barbie with a smile. He turned to his shorter friends before giving them a cheerful wave. He had been walking around the outskirts of the circus grounds and had been thinking of stopping by to visit his pals when Blitzo had rushed up to him. He barely got a ‘hi’ out when he was asked if he wants to help on a super important mission.
He nodded yes and was immediately dragged into the house. He was told to wait until Blitzo had finished his speech before speaking. Apparently Blitzo had told this to his friends and sister as well because Chaz had seen the surprised looks on their faces but didn’t say anything and just sat next to him.
“Hi guys!” Chaz waved.
“Chaz here just happened to be in the neighborhood but I figured he would wanna help us out.” Blitzo explained before turning to the shark boy. “You’re okay with chasing down an ice cream truck, right?”
“Oh you know it!” Chaz grinned. “I love getting sno-cones from one!” He then gave them a sheepish look as he scratched the back of his head. “When I can actually catch the truck that is…”
“With his longer legs, I think he’ll be able to chase and wave down the truck.” Blitzo told the group. “We can probably catch it on the late afternoon route when it drives by again. What do you say, guys? You wanna get that truck?”
“Well, I have been looking for a bit of an adventure after being stuck at the hospital…” Stolas mused before giving them a smile. “I’m in!”
“You know, a strawberry bar does sound good…I’m in too!” Fizz smiled.
“Well we can’t let Stolas not try an ice cream from a truck. You’re only a kid once.” Barbie reasoned before turning to Chaz. “Alright big guy. You’re in!”
Chaz was so happy that his tail began to thwap up and down on the bed, bouncing the kids. “Whoo-hoo! This is gonna rock! I can’t wait to tell Moxxie!”
Blitzo couldn’t help but laugh seeing his friends and sister bouncing around on the bed. He had no idea shark tails could be so strong. But if Chaz was as fast as he was strong, this was gonna be a wild mission.
Operation: Ice Cream Truck was a go!
(…)
The kids had gone downstairs to work out their plans. Since Stolas was still recovering from his surgery, he couldn’t exactly run after the truck himself. But he could keep an eye out for the truck by the gates of the grounds.
Fizz and Blitzo would be first line of attack, trying to get the truck to stop. Two kids looking cute and wanting to spend their money was bound to get a smart ice cream truck driver to stop. Then again, there are some vindictive drivers that will flat out ignore kids just to be petty.
That never made sense since being petty was stupid since they didn’t make money by being jerks.
For the second line of attack, that left Chaz and Barbie to chase after the truck. If a kid was chasing a truck down, eventually they would have to stop just to make a sale. They did have quotas to fill and all.
Stolas was sitting by one of the tents with a walkie-talkie, keeping an eye out for the truck. He had pretty good hearing too so if he heard a truck with music coming their way, that would be his signal to let them know to start waving to get the truck’s attention or chase after it. He felt a little bad he couldn’t do more but Blitzo assured him until his stitches were fully healed, it was totally fine he couldn’t wave and run around like a doofus.
Cash, who had been working in his trailer, stepped outside to go take a leak in the outhouse and asked his kids what they were up to. When they explained their plan, the older imp shook his head. They were making things way more complicated than they needed to be.
“Ya know, you could just go to the corner store to get some ice cream if ya want it that bad,” Cash reasoned.
“But it’s not the same as getting it from the truck!” Barbie retorted.
“The best part of getting ice cream from the truck is the thrill of the chase!” Chaz added.
“And doesn’t Stolas deserve the chance to get an ice cream from the truck like everyone else?” Fizz told him.
Blitzo put his hands on Stolas’s shoulders, giving him big eyes. “Look at this face! He’s been stuck in a stuffy hospital for ages! He deserves a treat!” Blitzo pouted, trying to look as cutesy as possible with Stolas looking up at him as innocently as possible.
Cash shook his head before poking his son in the forehead. “Alright ya goons. Just don’t go running across the street, capisce?”
“Yes sir.” They nodded.
Cash left the kids to their own devices, having other things to do. If they wanted to chase an ice cream truck, that was their business. Maybe they’d actually get it to stop.
If they did that, he might get an ice cream sandwich or something.
The kids soon got into their positions. Stolas watched where Blitzo had returned from running to when his ears perked up. A familiar tune was coming in from the distance. Now was his chance to be useful and help his friends!
“The truck is coming from the right!” Stolas spoke into the device. Fizz and Blitzo stepped onto the sidewalk, waving the truck down with money in hand trying to look as cute as possible. “Hey ice cream truck guy! We want ice cream!” They called, jumping up and down in excitement.
But as the truck came closer and closer…it totally snubbed them.
“Of all the jerky moves!” Barbie growled before she and Chaz began to chase it down.
“No way am I missing out on a smiley face popsicle!” Chaz declared, running like the T-1000 from the second Terminator movie.
Stolas ran up to Blitzo, fretting a bit as Fizz tried to catch up with the other two. “Oh no…we missed our chance…” he frowned, blinking as Blitzo crouched down in front of him.
“Hop on.” Blitzo told him.
Stolas carefully got on Blitzo’s back, surprised he could lift him. “Aren’t I too heavy?” He asked.
“Nah. You weight about as much as a couple of grapes.” Blitzo joked before carrying him away. “Yeehaw!”
Fizz had barely managed to catch up with Barbie and Chaz, gasping for breath. “How do we stop a truck?! If he passes the block before we get there, it’s all over!” He cried out.
“We just gotta make him stop!” Chaz reasoned.
Barbie was looking around for any solutions before an idea came to her. “I've got it! Chaz! How good is your aim?” She questioned.
“Uh pretty good! Why?” He wondered.
“Toss me at the truck!” She requested, hopping in his arms much to his surprise. “I’m an acrobat! I’ll make it work!”
Chaz looked to Fizz who gave him a shrug. He wasn’t sure how tossing her would work but screw it; if they were gonna get that ice cream, they had to be crafty. “Okay! Here goes something!” He declared, holding Barbie over his head before tossing her ahead.
To his and Fizz’s surprise, Barbie was speeding ahead with no problem. She got a good grip on the side of the truck, climbing along the side before she could see herself in the side view mirror. She wave to get the driver’s attention.
“Hey! Stop the truck!” She called.
The driver, a pimply teen imp, immediately hit the breaks. Barbie held onto the truck just in case he decided to speed off the moment she let go.
“Are you nuts?! Why would you do that?!” He questioned.
“Because we want ice cream, duh!” Barbie told him, smirking as her friends and brother caught up. Seeing that he had no choice but to serve them, the imp sighed as he put the truck in park. He opened the window to give the kids their options on what they wanted. This was a really lame summer gig.
“Alright what do you want?” He sighed.
“One cherry Hell-Italian ice please.” Barbie smiled, hopping down from the truck.
“I’d like a Rocket Pop!” Blitzo chimed in before turning to Stolas. “What do you want?”
“Oh I’d like a fudge pop please.” Stolas told the imp.
“I’ll take a strawberry cheesecake pop.” Fizz told him.
“One smiley face popsicle and one blue raspberry sno-cone.” Chaz told the imp.
“Is that it?” The teen snarked, groaning as he saw Cash and Tilla move up to the kids.
“Once ice cream sandwich for me.” Cash added, impressed the kids actually got the truck to stop. He turned to his wife, place a hand around her. “You want anything?”
“A lemonade Hell-Italian ice sounds great.” She smiled.
The teen groaned, hating big orders like this. By the time he would be done getting all these treats, more brats and their families would crowd his truck. He thought he’d get an easy gig selling ice cream to the other teens in town without having to sell to kids. But this totally blew!
“Fuck me…” he groaned, seeing more kids gathering around his truck.
The family soon headed back, happily enjoying their treats. “You know, you’re right. This does taste pretty damned good.” Cash told his kids.
“I do wish you didn’t have Chaz launch you like that…” Tilla fretted. “Maybe we shouldn't watch Extreme Wrath Wipeout for a while.”
“Sorry mama. But desperate times call For desperate measures.” Barbie reasoned, licking the top of her treat. Hopefully it would be soft enough to eat by the time they got back to the house.
Blitzo was happily licking his Rocket Pop, looking up at Stolas. “How’s yours?” He wondered.
“This is extraordinary! I didn’t know getting ice cream could be so exciting!” Stolas giggled, chocolate all over his face.
Fizz was chomping on his ice cream as he looked at the second ice cream in Chaz’s hand. “Saving that for later?” He guessed, seeing blue all over Chaz’s mouth.
“You could say that.” Chaz smiled, his teeth and mouth a bright blue. He was very happy that he got his second ice cream. He was going to be a bit full after eating the sno-cone but that was okay. This was for later and it might get a little melty but it wouldn’t be for him.
This was going to be for Moxxie.
