Understanding Feline Logic

Summary:

The title says it all…

Christine only makes a cameo appearance.

Notes:

I just got done with a 5,600 word story in which Erik only makes a very brief cameo. So I thought, for a change of pace, that I’d write a little drabble. This little thing is partly based on real life. My new kitty, Ella Sara, and Ayesha definitely have something in common…

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Get her a vertical scratching post! She’ll love it so much more than the flat scratch pad!” Erik stared in disbelief at his cat. Oh, she was definitely using her new scratching post. Sort of. Erik had walked into the lair to find his cat upside down on the scratching post. She had her front legs wrapped around the post and was ‘bunny-kicking’ it with her back legs!

“What the…?” Erik had absolutely no words.

After a few minutes ‘bunny-kicking’, Ayesha got down, went over to her scratch pad, sharpened her claws on it, then went back to the post and repeated her earlier performance! Erik was firmly convinced he was now shacked up with a complete lunatic. He thought this was completely insane, even for a cat!

********

Later that day, Christine walked into the lair for her lessons. And her jaw dropped. Ayesha was weird enough with her scratching post ‘bunny-kicking’, but then she saw Erik.

He was upside down on a floor lamp pole with his arms wrapped around it and trying to ‘bunny-kick’ it with his legs!

Christine’s mind went blank. She turned right around - without a word, and left. There would be no lessons today. “Completely insane,” She thought, “even for Erik!”

Notes:

I bought my late kitty a scratching post. She ignored it. She preferred scratch pads. My new kitty prefers the pads as well. A couple of weeks ago, I discovered her using her late sister’s scratching post exactly as Ayesha does hers in the story. I’ve had cats ever since I was 18 months old - a little tabby girl called, Teeny Weeny. Never in all the years of kitty companions, have I ever seen any of my cats use a scratching post like that! I had to immortalise it.
