Runaways.

Summary:

Stan can’t handle his life in South park anymore and asks his life-long best friend Kyle to run away with him.

There's not much angst in this, maybe at the beginning but it's happy mostly, they are 17, enjoy!

Work Text:

Kyle sighs and looks at his friend Stan, who is currently on his floor sobbing. Stan had texted him to come over.

Kyle bent down and looked at Stan, "What happened?" he asked, whispering. Stan looked up at him.

Tears filled Stan's eyes once more, "Everything happened! My life is all shit! Everyone is changing so fast i feel as if i have no control over life!" he said to his friend.

Kyle's eyes softened and he pulled him into a hug, Stan sobs into his shoulder, he can feel his jacket becoming wet from tears.

Stan calms down with Kyle's comfort and they sit there in silence for a while, the silence between them  comforting.

Stan takes a deep breath, his voice filling the once silent room. "Kyle, let's run."

Kyle's stiffens and once more looks Stan in the eyes, "What do you mean?" he questions.

"Let's leave it all behind, Kyle. There's nothing left for us here."

Kyle's breath stifles, Stan looks completely serious, as if he's been waiting to say this his whole life.

"Stan, what about our families..?" He asks, Stan sighs.

"You know they won't care about what happens to us, you're just not ready to leave yet." Kyle looks away from Stan.

"I'm sorry." He says, his voice barely a whisper. "Don't be. Tell me when you're ready, i'll be by your side."

Kyle flops down on his bed, he just got back from Stan's house. I want to be ready, Stan's right.

He sighs, his eyes barely opening and he falls asleep.

Kyle's eyes fluttered open, he looks around his dark room, his mind already wandering to Stan's words from yesterday.

He picks up his phone, the faint glow lighting up the room, he takes a minute for his eyes to adjust before opening his texts with Stan.

"Let's do it." He texts Stan, waiting in anticipation for a reply.

He sees the three dots pop up, "Get your stuff together, i'll be waiting outside your window." Stan replies.

Kyle feels a weight lift off his chest and he pulls out a bag, he packs some clothes, and necessitates.

He hears light taps at his window and he looks out it, seeing Stan with pebbles in his hands outside of it.

Kyle smiles, he opens the window and starts to climb out onto the tree next to it.

He jumps down from the tree and is face to face with Stan, Stan has a huge smile on his face, his nose a little pink from the cold.

Kyle feels his face heat up as he looks at him, his heart racing, a cold breeze blows onto the two that snap them out of their trance.

Stan takes his hand and they start walking, Kyle feels light, like he's floating.

He looks at Stan once again while they walk, "Where are we going?" he asks him in a whisper, Stan shrugs.

"We'll know when we get there." He responds, Kyle nods, trust in his life-long best friend.

They walk hand in hand, the cold air swirling around them, Kyle looks around the deserted streets of South Park.

"Did- Did you bring money?" He asks Stan, Stan nods. "Did you?" "Yeah."

"We could stay at a motel, i brought enough for a night." Kyle suggests, Stan nods.

Stan let's go of Kyle's hand, his hand feeling cold without Stan's, he puts it in his pocket to hide from the stinging cold.

He watches as Stan pulls out his phone and looks something up, "I found a motel that's 10 minutes away, wanna go there." Kyle smiles.

"Sure, i like walks anyways." He responds, Stan smiles back at him and they walk side by side again.

Kyle feels numb from the cold, his cheeks stinging and his nose hurts whenever he breathes in the cold air, he should be used to it by all the years he's lived in South Park but he's not.

He stops infront of the motel Stan talked about, Stan looks at him. "This is it."

Kyle takes his hand out of his pocket and grabs Stan's, "Come on!" he laughs a bit, dragging Stan inside.

The bell to the door dings when they walk in, the lady at the front desk sitting up abruptly when she realizes people are inside.

She looks at them, "What can i do for you boys?" she asks

"We need a room." Kyle says, squeezing Stan's hand a bit.

"Alright, all we have is a room with one bed, is that fine?" She says, Stan nods, "Yes that's fine."

Kyle takes the money out of his pockets and hands it to the lady, she gives them their room key and they head to the stairs.

Stan unlocks the door and they head in, it's not the best but it's a motel so they didn't have high expectations.

Kyle sighs and sets his bag down on the floor, taking out his phone charger and plugging his phone in.

Stan looks at him and smiles, "I'm glad you agreed, i wouldn't have left without you." Kyle looks at him when he says that and smiles.

"I wouldn't either, you're my best friend Stan." He says, best friend leaving a weird taste on his tongue, he wasn't sure what his feelings meant exactly but he knew that it was more than whay friends should feel for each other.

Stan's smile widens and he flops down on the bed, he pats the spot next to him and looks at Kyle.

Kyle giggles a bit before laying down next to him, pulling his shoes off.

"I wonder how everyones gonna react." He says, laughing.

Stan pulls off his own shoes and looks at Kyle, "What if we woke up to police at our door?" he jokes, Kyle rolls his eyes.

"Let's go to bed, we can continue walking tomorrow." Kyle says finally, Stan nods, turning off the lamp on his bedside, Kyle doing the same thing.

The darkness surrounds them, but instead of feeling scared Kyle feels comforted, a happiness looming over him.

He can't help but smile at the ceiling above him, he falls asleep to Stan's breathing.

Kyle wakes up to Stan shifting, he feels a pain in his neck but the pain is replaced by his heart racing when he feels Stan's arms wrapped around him.

He feels his face heat up, he struggles out of Stan's hold and stands up, stretching.

He looks at his phone on the table, he walks over to it and taps the screen, multiple missed calls from his mom and text messages from his friends.

He feels his heart sink a bit before he hears Stan groan, he looks over to him and sees him getting up.

Stan looks at him, "My legs are sore." he says, Kyle giggles.

"I think i'm gonna shower before we leave." Kyle says, Stan nods and lays back down.

"Wake me up after so i can shower after you" He says, closing his eyes again, Kyle nods.

He grabs his bag and walks into the bathroom, turning the water on and walking into the shower.

He washes his body and gets out, getting dressed and then brushing his teeth.

He walks out the bathroom and wakes up Stan, Stan groggily thanks him and walks to the bathroom, Kyle can hear the water turn on.

He looks at his phone, picking it up off the charger and looking at his notifications, messages and missed calls from his family.

His heart sinks a little and he unlocks his phone, tapping on the messages app.

"Kyle where are you?" His brother Ike, he opens the message, thinking. Before he sighs and closes the app.

Stan comes out the bathroom, "We should leave now." he says, Kyle nods.

They get their bags ready and head out, waving goodbye to the lady at the front desk.

Kyle steps outside and feels the cold sting his cheek, he looks at Stan who is already looking at him.

"Let's go." Stan says, grabbing his hand once agan. Kyle smiles at the action and lets himself be pulled by him.

"Where are we going?" He asks staring at Stan, Stan looks lost in thought for a moment before responding, "I don't know." he says.

His eyes scan the area, "But i know we'll figure it out together." Kyle nods, feeling a sense of excitement and uncertainty.

Stan's hand in his comforting him, he squeezes it and feels Stan squeeze his hand back.

"Wanna grab some breakfast?" He asks, Kyle's stomach growls at the suggestions. "Yeah, that sounds amazing."

They walk into a diner, the bell above the door jingling as the enter.

The waitress greets them and sits them at a table.

They sit down, Kyle can't help but feel a sense of freedom.

Stan looks at him, excitement in his eyes. "We're really doing it."

Kyle nods, his heart racing as he stares at his friend.

The waitress comes over and takes their order, they both order something simple.

They sit in the booth, waiting for their food to arrive, Kyle can't help but steal glances at Stan.

His blue eyes shine in the sunlight, Kyle feels his heart race.

Stan catches Kyle's gaze and smiles, his cheeks flushing slightly. Kyle feels his own face heat up in response.

The waitress arrives with their food, breaking the trance the two were in.

They finish eating and pay, they step outside into the crisp morning air.

The sun is shining making Kyle squint his eyes a bit, he looks at Stan and they stare at each other.

Without a word Stan reaches out and brushes a strand of hair out of Kyle's face, Kyle feels a flutter in his chest.

Stan's hand lingers on Kyle's cheek, his fingers tracing the curve of his jaw, Kyle's eyes close, savoring the touch.

And then, without hesitation, Stan leans in and presses his lips to Kyle's. The kiss is soft and gentle, a tender exploration of each other's mouths.

Kyle's eyes fly open, and he feels himself melting into the kiss. He wraps his arms around Stan's waist, deepening the kiss as they stand there on the deserted highway.

The world around them fades, Kyle can hear his heartbeat in his ears. All that matters is Stan, the way his mouth moves against his- as if they were made for each other.

They break apart for air, Kyle smiles, "Wow." he whispers.

Stan grins back, his blue eyes shining with happiness.

They stand there for a moment, holding hands and smiling at each other. Kyle knows that their relationship will never be the same again.

"Let's get out of here." Stan says, his voice breaking the silence, "We've got the whole world to explore." he says with excitement.

Kyle nods, "Let's do it." he says happily.
