Chapter Text
Iraq
Elliana was lay on her bunk next to Teddy when Teddy asked, "Have you heard from your family recently?"
"I spoke to my mom a couple of days ago and she seemed the same, as judgemental as always," Elliana replied with a laugh then sighed, "Nancy and Kathleen were telling me how I need to come home cause it's not fair how they have to worry about how I could die out here."
She looked down. Teddy looked at her with a sombre expression. She placed her hand gently on Elliana's back. "How are Derek,Lizzie and Amelia?" She quietly asked.
"Lizzie was telling me how the kids missed me and last Christmas they still made sure I had a place at the table so that I wasn't left out... I miss them"
Teddy sighed, "Hey, you'll see them soon enough you've got like what... a year left here right." Teddy smiled brightly.
"Yeah,I guess I do but I'll miss you, Owen and the football games we play every morning" Elliana giggled.
"Enough of all this 'I'll miss you nonsense '. Now back to your family, who haven't we spoke about?"
"Amelia and Derek"
"Okay so tell me about them"
"Well I heard the Derek and Addison are going through a rough patch but I'm sure they'll get through they always do they have to and Addison is more like a sister to me then Nancy and Kathleen so they have to get through it. And Amelia half way through her residency now I'm so proud of how far she's come after everything she's been through and how the reset of the family treat her"
"What about you Tea has anyone contacted you?" "My mum has she's been asking when I come home but hopefully I'm supposed to be leaving a bit after you for a couple of months so I'll be able to spend some time with them and maybe I'll come visit you" Teddy laughed.
"We will definitely have to meet up and I'll introduce you to Derek, Addison, Mark, Amelia and maybe Lizzie if she's not busy with the kids but I'm sure they will all love you. I mean you're one of the reasons why I have survived out here."
They both continued talking about their plans for when they get discharged back to America. They chatted for about 15 minutes until their other friend Owen came running into the tent.
"Hey! Do you guys want to play some football" He asked whilst leaning against one of the bed posts.
"Sure we'll be out in a second" Elliana exclaimed.
Shortly after, the trio of Majors walked out the tent to meet with the other group of Majors to start the match. They all set their bags in an order to create to goal shaped boxes and drew some markings with their feet across the sand. One of the fellow Majors ran back into the tent to grab their makeshift football and placed it in the middle of the 'pitch' that they created.
__________________________________________
One hour later, they were all called to the helicopters so they could go out in the field to help out with the injured soldiers. Quickly, everybody packed their bag and got in their full uniform.
Elliana and Teddy ran into their tent to grab their bags and equipment that was needed for this call. Elliana quickly glanced at the picture of her and her sister Amelia, which was partly underneath her pillow, and picked it up. She smiled slightly as she touched Amelia's face. "I'll be back soon, don't you worry I'm going to be okay as long as you are" she muttered quietly. She placed the picture back down on the bed, this time on top of the pillow, and began to but her bag on her shoulders. She looked at Teddy to see if she was ready to head out but she was still putting her final pieces of equipment in her bag. Teddy closed her bag and swung it on her shoulder and looked over to Elliana who was already heading towards her.
"You ready?" Elliana asked.
"As ready as I'll ever be." Teddy smiled
They left the tent and headed to the helicopter. Owen joined next to them and helped Teddy and Elliana up into the helicopter, then getting himself up onto it. Buckling themselves in, the three looked up at each other and did their little handshake.
The helicopter landed and their Captain came and gave them a little speech before handing out their orders.
"I want you all to work as quickly as you possibly can but you still have to be precise with your stitches cause we've got more than 50 wounded soldiers coming and there's only 15 of you Majors so I'm going to but you into 3 groups of 5 so that you can work as a team on your patients and hopefully get them sorted quicker." "When I call out your name please head over to tent 1 as you are group 1." The Captain called out the first group and the 5 headed over to the first tent and began preparing their equipment ready for the incoming traumas. "Okay, second group head over to tent 2" He read the next 5 names and they did the same things as the previous tent. "And finally group 3 that is Major Hunt, Altman, Shepherd, Dixon and Johnson. You've probably already guessed where you're going." He pointed over to the third and final tent that was set up. "Head over to tent three"
The five majors set up all of their equipment and we are making sure how much of each price of equipment they had and made sure the beds were all sanitised before the traumas came in.
Before they knew it five soldiers were brought into their tent and placed onto their allocated beds. Elliana looked at all five soldiers and she found one that looked like they needed an orthopaedic surgeon more than the rest of the five soldiers. Even though she was still certified as a trauma surgeon she knew that Owen was in their group so she could focus more on orthopaedics this time. Teddy and Owen ran over to two of the wounded and assessed them. Owen noticed that his preferably needed a cardiac surgeon so he called Teddy over.
"I'll take yours, this one needs you more I'm not quite sure what's wrong with him yet but I know it's his heart that needs help the most"
"Okay Owen, I was just about to call you over anyway"
Meanwhile, Elliana went over to bed 4 and looked at their wounds to make sure there wasn't any bleeders that could be seen.
She began cleaning the inside of the wound so it wouldn't get infected later on. She then stitched her soldier up and moved home to the other bay in the tent.
When they landed back at their camp they all said their goodnight and headed to allocated tents. Elliana & Teddy headed to their tent and both lay on their beds as they let out a sigh.
"Well it's been a crazy day today." Elliana said.
"Yeah, i mean 50 soldiers in one day! It must of been a hard day for them out there. Like that could of been one of us"
"I don't know what I'd do if you got hurt, you're my best friend, we've been through a lot together and I can't lose you"
"Well your not gonna lose me anytime soon Elliana trust me on that and your not getting hurt or dying anytime soon as well okay? It's gonna be a long time till you die and you'll be all old and wrinkly" Teddy looked at Elliana and giggled as she said the last part. They both laughed for a while before slowly dozing off as the sky turned dark.

Chapter Text
2.01
New York
Elliana's POV
I finally arrived back home to New York. I hopped off the plane ,wearing my army uniform, and headed to the nearest door to get into the airport. I swung my rucksack over my shoulders and pushed open the door. I didn't have a suitcase to collect so I walked over to the checkout area and handed my passport over. They checked it and let me through. I walked along the corridor and as I turned the corner I was surrounded by multiple different stores that I haven't seen in a while. I couldn't even remember the last time I went into a shop as I've been in the army for the past 5 years. I walked past the shops and made my way to the exit off the airport.
I called a taxi over and asked them if they could drive me to where Amelia was staying.
After about half an hour, I finally arrived outside her apartment feeling nervous about how she would react since I hadn't told her I was coming home in the last letter I wrote to her. Slowly I brought my hand up towards the door knocker and knocked three times.
"Coming, just give me one second!" Amelia shouted from inside the house.
Carefully, I took a couple of steps backwards and waited patiently, my hand shaking slightly from the nerves of awaiting her reaction. As the door began to open Amelia turned her head to see who was behind the door, jaw dropping as she seen the face of her sister. Tears began to brim at her eyes as she shot from inside of the apartment to the outside. She gripped onto her sister tightly like she was going to disappear if she let go.
"You don't understand how much I have missed you" She cried out.
"I missed you too" I replied
"You've been away for five years. Thank you for coming back. I've been so worried about you especially that time when you didn't send me a letter or call for like a month. I'm so glad you're back. Your like the only person in this family that actually cares about me other than Addison"
"Don't say that about our mum and siblings even if they are very annoying they do care about you and I'll speak to them about it when I go see them later but right now I want to know what you've been doing these past 5 years cause even though I know a little bit I want to know everything!" I smiled.
"Okay well do you want to come inside first it's a little cold out here" They both headed inside the apartment and sat down on the couch, Amelia sat close to me holding my hand. "I don't even know where to start" Amelia laughed.
"Well how about your residency? How has it been going? Do you know what you want to pursue and become a fellow in? Have you scrubbed in on any cool surgeries?"
"Well my residency is going so well I'm a 4th year resident" She smiled brightly. "I think I might what to become a neurosurgeon but not because I want to follow in Derek's footsteps, I just find it so cool and amazing"
"I'm happy for you, I really am and you know if you ever want to become and ortho, general or trauma surgeon I'll gladly mentor you and find you the most amazing surgeries" I smiled.
"Are you trying to bribe me into those specialties" She questioned
"No....I don't know what you're talking about" I lied. "Does Derek still live in New York because last time I spoke to him he was acting quite weird"
"He um actually moved to Seattle like two maybe three months ago and Addison just left like a couple days ago for work as there's a TTTS case"
"Why did he move to Seattle without Addison I thought they were okay again?"
"Well...He walked in on Addison sleeping with Mark and left for Seattle the same night and hasn't come back since"
"She cheated on him, with Mark?" I was shocked to hear about this because when I last spoke to them they seemed better.
"He was never home anymore and always chose surgery over her and I don't think she meant to do it but mark was just there"
"Do you think Derek will be mad at me if I'm not mad at her, I'm not saying he deserved it but she's been in my life for probably more than 15 years and I've not seen her for 5 of those years so the next time I see her I don't want to be mad at her when I've missed her and she's been there for me during the hardest parts of my life and sometimes Derek wasn't even there for me he was to busy and had to deal with other things" I stated
"I don't know if he'll be mad or not but I walked in on Addison and Mark but I never told Derek and I knew about it two months before he found out so if he'll be mad at anyone bar Addison and Mark it would probably be me more than you. He also still hasn't forgiven me for crashing his car, like come on it was ages ago get over it."
"Yeah I guess you're right." I sighed. "Oh, and this might be a bit much to ask but do you mind if I stay here tonight I can sleep on the couch or on the floor but I just don't want to buy a hotel if I don't have to. But if you have people coming over i can find a hotel" I asked in hope that she says yes.
"Of course you can stay here tonight I've not seen you in 5 years your staying in this house tonight and you can share my bed with me"
"Thank you Ames are you 100% sure you're okay with me staying the night"
"Don't be so silly Birdie! Do you really think I'd make you buy a hotel when you could just stay here with me" Amelia smiled. "Oh and do you need some pyjamas cause I've got loads"
"Yeah if you don't mind, thank you so much for this. This is why you are my favourite sibling because Nancy & Kathleen definitely
wouldn't let me stay the night."
"You look a little bit tired and it's nearly 7 now so do you want to have something to eat now and then go to bed?"
"Yeah sure"
"Okay so what would you like to eat we can order takeout"
"Order your favourite and just get me the same as you cause this is gonna be my first takeout in a while" I laughed. "And I'll give you the money for it"
"Don't worry about the money and I think you'll love the food"
"Okay" I laughed. Slowly I moved closer to Amelia and rested my head on her shoulder. "Maybe we could watch something on the TV? What's a good show to watch now?"
"How about The Real Housewives they are kinda crazy, a bit like our family but at least we don't flip tables."
I turned the TV on and turned on The Real Housewives of Orange County whilst Amelia ordered the food. Standing up from the couch, I told her that I was going to go to the toilet and change. She said she'll get changed too and leave me a set of pyjamas on her bed. Whilst she headed to her bedroom to change I went to the bathroom. After I'd finished I made my way to her bedroom and knocked on the door. She opened it and was already dressed in her pyjamas, She handed me her spare set and said, "I think these ones will fit you best and they're kind of matching with mine so u thought it would be cute" She let out a small giggle.
"Thank you."
"I'll just be in the living room if you need me"
"Okay I'll only be like 5 minutes anyway"
"Take your time, I'll see you in a minute" She shut the door as she walked out.
I began to take my shirt off and as I did this I caught a glimpse of my scars in the mirror and looked at them, tracing their lines with my finger. Sighing I took my pants off and put the pyjama pants on.
Amelia's POV
I walked over to the couch and sat down, I went to pull my phone out off my pyjama pants pocket but I realised that my phone wasn't there. "Oh, I must have left it on my dressing table" I stood up from the couch and walked back to my bedroom. Before I opened the door I thought about knocking but I didn't think she'd be bothered if I came into the room whilst she was changing . As I opened the door I noticed her looking down at her body, I caught a glimpse of what she was looking at from the side of the mirror and I was shocked at what I saw.
I started to become worried about how it happened and if she was okay, I slowly built up the courage to ask her if she was okay. "Hey birdie, are you okay?"
Elliana's POV
As I turned around to answer to the voice I saw Amelia stood beside the door. "Yeah, sorry if I have kept you waiting for long"
"No, I've not been waiting for long I just left my phone in here so I came to get it." She broke eye contact for a second and glanced down at the side of my rib, which I noticed her do.
"You can ask, I don't like to talk about it but you can ask a couple of questions." I said.
"How d-did that happen?"
"Well I can't remember what day it was but I think it was a couple of weeks ago and we were getting shot at. I was running with Teddy but I fell down and hit a metal pole."
"Does it hurt?"
"A little but after a while you get pretty used to have bad bruises but I'm just glad that this isn't a really bad one because I've had a lot worse than this."
"Y-you've had worse than t-that." She asked as tears filled her eyes.
"Y-yeah. But you don't need to worry about me I'm fine I'm here now"
"Okay, um the food came"
"Okay well how about we eat then I've not had a proper meal in a while." I laughed.
We both left the bedroom and sat on the couch eating our Chinese takeout. "I have to admit you've got brilliant taste in food Ames"
"Thanks birdie."
"I think I'm going to head to bed now cause I've got a long day tomorrow."
"Why what's happening tomorrow?"
"I'm catching another flight to Seattle because Richard has a couple of cases for me but now I might stay there longer cause Derek and Addison live there now or Addison is coming back here."
"Oh, will you come back and visit me though because I can't deal with Mum, Nancy and Kathleen and I mean Lizzie is alright but she usually just does what the other 3 do because she's scared of how they will treat her"
"Of course I'll come see you just give me a ring whenever you need me Ames it doesn't matter where you are I'll come to you."
"You're an amazing sister Birdie"
"I know" We both laughed at my comment and headed off to her bedroom. She jumped into her bed and I crawled into it. We both got comfy and she turned her bedside lamp off leaving the room quite dark. I turned my head over in Amelia's direction and noticed that she was already asleep, slowly my eyes began to close and I drifted off to sleep.
Unfortunately, I was awoken by a nightmare from a time back in Iraq. I moved my hand over my face and wiped the sweat off my forehead.
Suddenly I felt a pair of arms wrap tightly against me. "You're okay, it's just a nightmare. You're gonna be fine. Just lie back down and I'll hold you."
"Thanks Ames" I sniffled.
"You used to do it for me when I had nightmares even though yours might be worse than mine but I'll be here for you. Now lie down and let me hold you."
I slowly laid down and rested my head on her chest as she hugged me tightly, I began to drift off to sleep as she kissed the top of my head.
The next morning, I was awoken by Amelia stroking my back. Which felt oddly comforting as it's usually me who comforts her and the only person that usually comforts me is my best friend, Teddy, but she's still in Iraq so I probably won't see her for a while. "Good morning" I mumbled gently into her chest with my head still resting on her.
"Morning birdie" She replied as she was lacing her fingers through my hair.
"What time is it?"
"It's 8:30. What times your flight at?"
"Oh my flight is at 11 I think but did I lie in for that long?"
"You sure did birdie. Must have been the travelling that's made you tired" She laughed, "Do you need a spare change of clothes for the flight?"
"No, I'm just gonna wear my uniform today if that's alright."
"Of course it's fine it's your body."
We spent the next couple of hours chatting about her life and she checked the time, "Oh shit it's 10:00 you've got your flight in an hour. I'll drop you off at the airport"
"Thanks Ames"
"Just let me get changed really quick and you'll have to change too"
"Yeah, I can just do it in the living room it's quicker that way"
"Okays"
We both headed our separate ways and got changed. I changed back into my military uniform quite quickly and waited for Amelia to come back in. About 5 minutes later she walked into the living room with her bag and asked if I was ready to leave. I answered with a nod and we both started to head out of the door. She unlocked her car and hopped into the drivers seat whilst I hopped into the passenger seat. She turned the radio on and our favourite song came on so we began to sing loudly whilst smiling at each other. It made me feel sad how much I had missed this feeling with being around her knowing she was okay. I was getting excited to see Addison and Derek. I love Derek but sometimes I loved Addison a little more because during school I skipped 3 grades so I was in the same grade as Derek so he was sometimes a bit annoyed that I was in the same classes as him but when I got to college everything changed. He got accepted into Bowdoin whilst I went to Yale. There at Yale I met Addison and we were roommates so we became close friends.
She was the only person in our year that didn't judge me for being 3 years younger than everybody else. After we both graduated we both got accepted into Columbia University where we completed are residencies. We were there with Derek and Mark and we also met Naomi and Sam Bennett. We all shared a house together. We were known as the Surgical Six during our residency. By the time of our fellowships we were all still close but none of us fellowed in the same specialties. I decided to move to John Hopkins to specialise in Orthopaedics and Trauma but everyone else stayed. Derek specialised in Neurology. Addison specialised in Neonatal and OB/GYN and later Fetal surgery. Mark specialised in Plastics. Naomi became a fertility specialist. Sam started a fellowship in Cardiothoracic but later became an Internal Medicine Specialist. Naomi and Sam have opened the Oceanside Wellness Group with some other doctors. Even though we all don't get together as often we are all still close. Well, maybe everyone except Derek, Mark and Addison but they are still close with Sam and Naomi.
We arrived at the airport and Amelia walked me in and before I left to get the plane I turned around and squeezed her tightly. "I love you Ames. I'm gonna miss you but I know you're gonna have the time of your life finishing your residency and you'll meet people or have probably already met people that will be your friends for life. Thank you for being there for me last night and I'm sorry for waking you up. Just remember that you can ring me or text me whenever you need me and if you want me to come fly out to you I will and we can have a girly day out like how I used to take you out when we were younger. Go do me proud and yourself proud in your residency." I said with tears in my eyes.
"Thank you for always being there for me Birdie and rooting for me. I will make sure to do well in my residency and look after myself. Now go you got a plane to catch I'll be fine."
We hugged once more before I left to walk for the gate. I boarded the plane and buckled the belt, preparing myself for the next 6 hours on the plane. I picked a random movie and played it using the headphones they provided. After the film had finished I tried to have a small nap but failed so I decided to watch another film. I ordered a drink and a sandwich for my lunch/dinner. After a couple of hours the plane had finally landed. I walked off of it and headed over to security and walked out off the airport. I called a taxi over. "Hi, where can I take you today?" The taxi driver asked.
"Just to Seattle Grace Hospital please"
"Of course it will take 20 minutes to arrive there."
"Okay thank you"
The 20 minutes had passed and we had arrived outside of the hospital. I paid the driver and got out. I headed over to the entrance of the hospital and walked in. I went up to the desk and asked a nurse if they could tell me where Chief Webber's office was. They gave me the directions to his office and i thanked her. As I was walking to his office I heard a group of people talking.
"Hey, who's that over there she looks kind off familiar but why is she in an army uniform?" One woman said.
"I'm not sure Cristina but she looks a little like Derek don't you think?"Another woman replied
"Hey imagine if it's one of his sisters that he doesn't like. Or maybe he's got another secret person in his life like Satan" The woman called Cristina said.
I had to hold in a laugh as she said this. I eventually found my way to Webber's office and knocked on the door. "Come in" I heard Richard say. I walked in and saw him speaking to a short woman who turned her head in my direction as I opened the door.
"Hey Richard did you miss me"
"I'm so glad you could come here Elliana"
"It's no problem at all. How is Adele."
"You know how she's like she still wants me to reduce my hours and be home more."
"Oh, well when you get home tell her I said hi and I'll have to come and visit her sometime soon"
"Of course I will, she'll be happy to see you. She's missed you since you've been away for so long."
"I've missed her too" I turned my head over to the short woman who stood near the back of the room with her mouth slightly open in shock. "And who are you may I ask?" I spoke politely.
"Uh..I'm Dr. Miranda Bailey and are you Dr. Elliana Shepherd"
"Indeed I am" I held my hand out for her to shake it which she did straight away.
"It's a pleasure to meet you" She said.
"Dr. Bailey over here is one of our best 4th year residents and she has quite an interest in General surgery."
"Ooh well maybe if Richard over here gives me a job and you still have a knack for General at the end of your 5th then maybe you could become my fellow if Richard doesn't steal you from me. I'll have to see you in surgery one day." I stated.
"Sir, I believe you should hire her." She said as she walked out the door.
"Elliana I would like to offer you a position as Head of Orthopaedic surgery and a position as a General attending and Trauma attending. You will be spending more time in Ortho as you are the head of the department if you take the job"
"Thank you for the opportunity and of course I'll take the job. When do I start?"
"Tomorrow at 6am."
"Okay Richard do you mind if I stay here for a bit because I still haven't seen Addie or Derek."
"Of course you can just make sure you get some sleep for tomorrow and if you need anything come find me. I'll be ordering your scrubs to come for tomorrow"
"Thanks Richard"
I walked out of his office and walked over to the closest nurse and asked them for the direction to the neonatal ward and they took me to the ward. I walked over to the nicu where I suspected Addison to be. I saw her standing there staring at the babies through the glass. "I've always wanted a baby, they look so cute when they are asleep" I said out loud.
___________________________________________
Addison's POV
"I've always wanted a baby, they looks so cute when they are asleep" I heard someone say, but I began to become confused as I recognised the voice of the person but surely they weren't there. I turned my head in the direction of where I heard the voice come from and as soon as I seen who it was I felt my jaw drop. "Is I-it really y-you Elliana" I said with a crack in my voice.
"It sure is"
"Oh my god, I can't believe you're really here" I spoke with tears in my eyes as I made my way over to her and hugged her tightly.
"Ow, your hugging just a tiny bit too tight" She tried to laugh through the pain as her rib began to play up again.
"Sorry, Sorry, Sorry, I've just missed you so badly"
"I've missed you too. I heard you came here and dropped a bomb on Derek's new mistress" She laughed.
"Yeah, I guess I did she didn't look very happy when I told her"
"Oh before I forget do you know where I can find a good hotel that's close to the hospital"
"Yeah there's a really nice one where I'm staying at and it's only like 5 minutes away from the hospital"
"Okay I guess I'll be following you home then tonight."
"Would you like me to take you to see Derek, he's a bit mad at me at the moment but he might be happy to see you." I said.
"Yeah if you don't mind that would be nice"
___________________________________________
Elliana's POV
We both began to walk down the halls of the hospital whilst talking about how both of our lives have been going. We eventually reached the room that Derek was in with an intern. "Derek" Addison spoke.
"What Addison I told you I don't want to speak to you" He said angrily.
"I know but there's someone I'd like to see and they want to speak to you"
"I swear to god if you bring Mark Sloan in here I don't know what I'll do."
"Who's Mark Sloan?" The intern questioned.
"Nobody important Meredith"
"Right Derek he has been you best friend since you were kids so he's not just nobody important he is important"
"Yeah well not until you both slept together"
"Okay, I'm not gonna start arguing again but anyway this person is not Mark and I was shocked when I first saw them here"
"Well who is it Addison?" Derek said not even making eye contact with Addison as the intern named Meredith looked between the two of them confused.
"Derek. Elliana is here" She said
"W-what do you mean she's here are you playing some sick kind of joke because it's not funny"
"No I'm not I swear she's here I'll go get her now"she said as she left the room to get me.
"Who's Elliana?" Meredith asked.
"She's one of my younger sisters she the nicer and understanding one out of my five sisters"
"Oh, okay" Meredith said, "Do you want me to give you some privacy?"
"No she has to meet you soon anyway eventually"
Addison brought me into the room that had Derek and Meredith stood in it. "Hi Derek"
I spoke kind of quietly.
"Elliana..."

Chapter 4: Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head pt.2
Chapter Text
2.01
Elliana's POV
"Ellie" Derek said shocked. "W-what are you doing here?"
Addison had left the room to give us time to talk with each other as her and Derek weren't really on speaking terms at the moment.
"Surprise! I got discharged and Richard offered me a job here so I came. Is that a problem?" I asked.
"Why didn't you go back to New York?"
"Well I did too see Amelia and she said you left for Seattle and then Addie came here too."
"How long have you been back for?"
"I got back yesterday morning and hoped on a flight to get here this morning."
"Well I guess I'm glad your back"
"Thanks...I have really missed you, you know. You never really replied to my letters." I said looking down.
"I know but I've been busy and if I had the time to I would have" Derek replied.
Meredith stood awkwardly behind Derek, with one of her patients scans in her hand, feeling out of place.
Derek noticed this and took a step to the side, "Elliana this is one of the interns Meredith. Meredith this is my sister Elliana"
I held my hand out for her to shake which she did. "It's nice to meet you Meredith and I sure hope Derek hasn't been a bad attending" I smiled.
"Well we were good...until I found out that he had a secret wife." She said and Derek looked down.
"If I was here I would have got him to tell you because he's a little stupid when it comes to things other than surgery."
"No I'm not your the one who's stupid with relationships." He replied.
"Yes you are Derek."
"Well, it was lovely meeting you Meredith but I best get going and try and get a room at a hotel"
"It was nice meeting you too" Meredith answered with a smile.
"Bye Derek"
"Goodbye Elliana"
I walked out of the room and headed back to the nicu to find Addison again and wait with her till she's finished her shift.

I reached the nicu and stared through the window and looked at the babies again. I placed my hand on the window. Addison spots me and starts to walk over.
"Hey! You ready to go Dovey" Addison said with a smile, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
"Yeah" I smile back at you and lean into you. "I've missed you Birdie" I whisper.
"I think that I missed you more" Addison laughs. "I have a room in the hotel. Why don't you just stay in my room tonight instead of paying for it"
"Really are you sure?"
"Yes Dovey! I'm sure you're so silly sometimes of course I wouldn't mind. It will be like old times"
"Thank you" I hug Addison tightly.
Addison held onto the hug not wanting it to end. "Let's head to the car shall we" She says with a smile and brush a piece of hair away from her face.

The Seattle air was crisp as Addison and I stepped out of the hospital, the city lights reflecting off the damp pavement. The familiar scent of rain-soaked concrete mixed with the distant aroma of coffee from a nearby café.
"You know," Addison began, her voice breaking the comfortable silence, "it's been years since we've had a night like this. Just the two of us.
I smiled, pulling my jacket tighter around me. "Feels like a lifetime ago."
We reached her car, a sleek black sedan that contrasted sharply with the older, dust-covered vehicles around it. Sliding into the passenger seat, I glanced over at Addison as she started the engine.
"So, what's the plan for tonight?" I asked, trying to mask the nervous energy bubbling inside me.
"Well," she said, merging into the light traffic, "I was thinking we could order some room service, maybe watch a movie, and just catch up. Unless you have other plans?
I shook my head, a genuine smile spreading across my face. "That sounds perfect."
"Okay then we'll do it"
We drove through the streets, which were not that busy as it was later on in the night.

We reached the hotel and headed out of the car. We walked up to your hotel room.
The hotel room was elegantly furnished, with a large king-sized bed, a plush sofa, and floor-to-ceiling windows offering a panoramic view of the city skyline. Addison tossed her keys onto the dresser and kicked off her heels.
"Make yourself at home," she said, heading to the minibar. "Want something to drink?"
"Just water, thanks."
I settled onto the sofa, taking in the room's ambiance. The soft hum of the city below provided a soothing backdrop.
Addison handed me a glass of water and sat beside me, tucking her legs beneath her. "So, tell me everything. What's it like being back?"
I took a sip, gathering my thoughts. "It's... surreal. After everything in the army, coming back to civilian life feels like stepping into a different world. But being here, with you, makes it a bit easier."
She reached out, placing a comforting hand on mine. "I'm glad you're here, Ellie. Seattle Grace is lucky to have you."
I chuckled, "Let's hope they think so after my first day."

After a light dinner and a classic romantic comedy, Addison and I found ourselves reminiscing about our younger days.
"Remember that summer we spent in Cape Cod?" Addison asked, her eyes twinkling with nostalgia.
I laughed, "How could I forget? You tried to teach me how to surf, and I ended up with a sprained ankle."
"Hey, in my defense, you insisted on going out during high tide."
We both burst into laughter, the sound filling the room.
As the night wore on, a comfortable silence settled between us. I glanced at the clock; it was nearing midnight.
"We should probably get some sleep," I said, stifling a yawn.
Addison nodded, standing up and stretching. "You're right. You've got a big day tomorrow."
She handed me a spare set of pajamas and pointed towards the bathroom. "You can change in there."
"Thank you" I said and headed to the bathroom to change.
After changing, I returned to find Addison already tucked into bed. I slid in beside her, the sheets cool against my skin.
"Goodnight, Birdie," I whispered.
"Goodnight, Dovey," she replied, her voice soft and filled with affection.
I cuddled into you slightly, humming a soft tune as I drifted off to sleep. Even with everything that was happening between you, Derek and Mark...especially you and Derek, I felt a sense of peace I hadn't experienced in years. Tomorrow would bring new challenges, but for now, I was home.
