Chapter Text
They had managed to get Oliver to the hospital in time, calling an ambulance while Bex and Shane followed behind in their cars. Bex told the doctors what had happened and they managed to administer the antidote in time, now they were just waiting on updates. Bex and Shane had went to Hassani's room to tell him what had happened with Oliver and Jenna Wells.
Shane heard his phone go off again - he hadn't had time to answer it in all the chaos - and saw that he had multiple missed calls from Jen and a few text messages telling him to call her and that it was urgent. The last one was a text, so he excused himself to make a phone call outside the room, closing the door behind him. He chose to call Sarah back first to see if Dr. Dulles had told her anything and then would call Jen back.
"Hey. Did you show him?" Shane asked when she picked up on the other end.
"I showed my dad the video and asked him like you asked me too." She said.
"Thanks." Shane said, meaning it. "And?"
"Did you get that thing taken care of?" Sarah asked him.
"I did." Shane told her. He had said he couldn't make it and that he had had something important to do but had asked Sarah to ask her father about the woman in the video in his place. "So, what did he say?"
"Dad said... Something weird. He knew who she was, but wouldn't give her name. He said she graduated." Sarah relayed.
Shane blinked. "Graduated?" He asked, confused. "What does that mean? Graduated what?"
"I have no idea." Sarah told him. "But if you wanted to come and talk to him in person, I'd do it soon, like I said before."
"Right. Yeah, I'll - " He briefly glanced back at Hassani's room. "I'll get there as soon as I can. Thanks again."
"See you soon." Sarah said.
Shane hung up and went to call Jen's number.
"I need answers." Was the first thing Shane heard her say.
He blinked. "Did you run the voice?" He asked. "Uh wait, actually I need to tell you something first."
And he went on to tell her what had happened with Oliver and Jennifer Wells.
"Is he gonna be okay?" Jen asked, concern evident in her voice about Oliver.
"The doctors think so. So, hopefully. We told Hassani what happened. We're with him now... Waiting for updates on Oliver." Shane said. There was a brief silence. "So, who did the voice belong to?"
"It belonged to Eve Lazarus." She told him.
"Wait - "
"Yeah."
Shane processed what he was just told.
"Why did you ask me to run her voice?" Jen asked.
"I - " Shane started, trying not to freak out. He finally had an answer. He was on his way to finding out who he was. "She's.... My mom. My biological mom. I found out when I was eighteen that my parents had adopted me and I've been trying to find out who my biological parents were for my entire adult life and I remembered Dr. Dulles. Going to him - Like sessions with him, when I was a kid. So I found him and I've been talking with his daughter. She found these VHS tapes of my sessions with Dulles. That's where I got the voice for you to look up. She was looking at me - watching me - through a two-way mirror - I couldn't see her face in the video. Sarah said he recognized her - Said she graduated. But wouldn't say anything else. I'm gonna go there and see if he'll tell me more. Maybe seeing me in person will convince him to talk more."
"Wow." Jen said. "That's... A lot."
"Yeah." Shane exasperated.
"You said Dulles said she graduated?" Jen asked. Shane could hear the wheels turning in her head from her tone of voice. "And the video was of her looking at you through a two-way mirror."
"Yeah." Shane said, wondering where she was going with this.
"Do you think he meant... " She trailed off, but the implication was there.
Shane blinked. "Graduated from... The Pit? You think - " He was briefly at a loss for words. "You think Lazarus was an inmate - At The Pit? That The Pit's been in operation for over twenty five years? - You think - " He paused. "You think I'm the son of a serial killer? Who's now high up in a military position because she got the cure for being a murderer?" His voice went higher with each word.
"Maybe." Jen said. "Maybe not. We don't have all the answers. Or maybe even all the questions. But it seems like it's a possibility. I know this is a lot to take in."
Shane rubbed the back of his neck briefly. "No kidding."
"But we'll figure it out." Jen assured him. "Are you going to tell the rest of the team?"
He briefly glanced back at the door. "I guess, yeah. I will. And then I'll go and see what else Dulles has to say."
"Here's hoping he'll tell you more." Jen said.
"I'll let you know." Shane told her and hung up. He turned and headed back into Hassani's room, Bex and Hassani looking at him as he walked in.
"So." Shane stated. "You know how I said I had big secrets too..."
