Chapter Text
Y/n pov:
"Y/N GET BACK HERE!"
Oops. This wasn't the plan, I wasn't supposed to get caught sneaking out.
Jumping out of the window to escape Edith's wrath wasn't the plan either.
Sighing, I took off heading towards town. Brownies from the Waffle house were the best. The Waffle house, seems like a place Nina Zenik would live in.
"Caw, caw!" The crows were crowding around on the roofs. There was a weird amount of them today, maybe they know something us humans don't?
Walking on, there was a loud thud behind me. A book, the Six of Crows to be exact.
I left it at home. How did it get here?
Crooked Kingdom was beside it aswell. There was no reasonable answer for how they got there.
The crows shifted restlessly as I put the books in my bag. Then a group took of, swooping. Realisation dawned on me, they were swooping at me!
Talons extended, ready to pierce skin. Closer and lower they came at high speeds. I just stood there, frozen in shock.
Usually the crows weren't this aggressive. Nor did they try to attack humans.
I ran, wildly, trying to get them off my trail. Then there came a BONK to my head and I was falling, spiralling down in the every growing darkness.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The waves went back and forth, never stopping. They were like a little child none stop poking me in the side. Everything was white, sandy and...wet. WAIT A MINUTE, WET?
I shot up and the crows that were on me flew away at lighting speed.
A beach of sorts lay before me.
Something white fluttered down and landed on my now wet f/c shirt. It was a piece of paper.
"Follow the crows and they'll show the way"
The crows at my feet stared and waited, preening themselves. They seemed impatient. One pecked me hard in the leg and cawed, very loudly.
"Okay, okay! I'm coming" I snap, knowing full well that they don't understand.
Last thing I wanted to do is follow some dumb crows after landing up at some mysterious beach. To make it even worse my leg was miraculously still bleeding after my scrape from leaping out of the window.
The wind softly brushed my hair back, away from my face. I followed the crows and they brought me far. Farther and farther from the beach on which I had woken up on.
The surroundings never really changed much to my dismay. There were farms as far as the eye could see. A waterway was situated near a run down farm.
A waterway.
I stopped in my tracks and looked around once more.
"CAW" Another peck from the main crow, this time in my poor face.
We approached a city with quite a lot people bustling around on the streets. The people didn't look like they did back home. I needed to find out where I was, pronto.
A dark skinned man stood at a building, I went up to him. "Um, excuse me. Where am I?"
The man smirked. "Ketterdam, pretty girl"
He reached out to grab me but I lurched back, merging back into the crowd and bumping into quite a lot of people in the process.
Ketterdam. I was in Ketterdam. The place that only exists in Leigh Bardugo's books of the Grishaverse. My mind was blank. I walked with the crowd mindlessly, looking at the gray buildings.
How did I get here?
"CAW" The crow flew away.
Continuing, the famous menagerie came into view.
I was in the Barrel and, what was it.. WEST STAVE.
I knew where I was, kind of. Better than nothing.
Someone bumped into me, again. The person was wearing all black with a hood covering their face. I could only see that they had a lean build.
"Oh.. sorry" And the stranger mingled back into the crowd.
I ran after the person, could that be Inej or is the lack of food getting to me? Perhaps I lost a couple of brain cells when that crow hit me.
Round a corner, into a alleyway and then I lost sight of the strange person.
My mind whirled with a lot of unanswered questions. A sigh came out of my lips. This was going to be a long day...
Looking around, the surroundings seemed even more unfamiliar then they did before. Now there were no people around to even ask where I was. Once again I walked on.
A harbour came into view, from what I heard it was the fifth harbour. The harbour that was Dregs's territory, led by the notorious Kaz Brekker. Bastard of the Barrel, Dirty hands they called him.
Hot I would've called him if not for the fact that he could kill me in a second, I wouldn't even be able to save my life.
The sailors ran around, shouting in a language I surprisingly understood. Kerch.
I found an empty alleyway with fewer rats, than any other, to sleep in for the night or many nights. Before I could lay my head down and sleep, a crow came flapping down and dropped something. Another piece of paper.
"Welcome to Ketterdam, dear Y/n. This is your home."
I furrowed my eyebrows. This is my home? And who keeps sending me these letters and how do they know my name?
I belonged to my world not the Grishaverse, the biggest question is: How do I get back home?
A wise woman once told me that "Fear is the prison that holds us back from embracing our true potential, but when we confront it with unwavering determination, we unlock the door to limitless possibilities and unleash the greatness that resides within us."
That was all I could remember about the woman, just that about fear. I went by that quote my whole life but sometimes doubt finds a way to creep in.
Once you let fear in you will never be able to cast it out. I think that there is some truths that you shouldn't ignore...
Like that I was in Ketterdam.
