Chapter 1: Ruthless Thunder

Chapter Text

,,Captain...?"

,,I have to see her..."

,,But we'll die?"

,,I know..."

He slowly raised his finger towards his crew and the rest became a blur. He saw Zeus flying up while charging his lightning up, his crew running towards him, Eurylochus' face screaming the he shall make it home and say goodbye to his wife for him, the lightning heading towards them and then black. Has it struck? Was he being punished for his selfishness by death (who is he kidding? It's Zeus)? He felt the cold ocean all around him and his breath escaped him.

'I'm sorry Penelope, i'm sorry Telemachus, i'm sorry friends, i'm sorry mom and dad, i'm sorry Polities, sorry Eurylochus and i'm sorry ctimene'

'I wish i could make it back home'

He felt himself getting dizzy and right before passing out he saw something from the bottom of the Ocean grab him and pulling him down.

He was sure his life has ended here and then.

-------------------------------------

When he woke up again he was sure he would be gazing upon the souls of this crew and mom judging or even scream at him. But no. When he opened his eyes back up he was laying in the middle of an gigantic hall.

He sat up and then noticed something cold around his neck.

A Chain?

Where is he and why would someone chain him up? When he looked outside it was like his blood froze in his veins. He was in the middle of the Ocean.

A castle in the middle of the Ocean? This could only mean one thing....

,,Odysseus of ithaca" he heard a cold and firm voice speak. He slid around the floor towards him until he came to an halt infront of him. He lifted Odysseus' chin up to make him look at him.

,,Poseidon?" Odysseus voice spoke a bit shaky while his body went totally stif and his heart pounded in his chest like a drum.

How has he gotten here?

,,Ah don't worry" Poseidon said with a weird tone. ,,I have permission of Zeus to keep you here" he said as he dropped Odysseus' chin and slid to the window while talking.

,,you see, king of ithaca" he said stopping infront of the window. ,,i am your punishment" he said with an almost heareble smirk. Odysseus went into an absolute shock, he even started sweating.

,,what...?" He said and looked back up to a smiling Poseidon. ,,Let's get you into an cell"

Poseidon loosened Odysseus' chains and made him stand up, leading him into the cellar.

He threw him inside with more force than nessacary. ,,have fun in your new home, i'll make sure to sent your family a little thank you gift" he said laughing and then he left. Odysseus noticed he was in a completly isolated cell.

Odysseus broke down, he was 100% sure he'll never see his wife again and will never meet his son. he cried and cried the entire night in despration.

He just wanted to go home.

Chapter 2: Worried Wisdom

Summary:

Athena heard the news of her Warriors fate, informed by a group very dear to her

Notes:

I need to stop writing at night. This fanfic will break me while writing so be prepared. (*^▽^*)

Chapter Text

Athena was sitting in her chamber when Hermes barged in, closely followed by the A Twins. ,,Hermes? What's wrong?" She sounded a bit worried by there faces.

,,Listen! I know you currently really hate your little warrior but-"

,,if this is about a stupid thing he did then i don't wanna hear it" she said, turning away from them. Before Hermes could speak, Artemis tried ,,Thea, really i know you care" she cut her off with an hand swing.

Now Apollo wanted to try but before anyone could say anything, Ares and Aphrodite ran in. Athena turned back to them, her worries grew, Ares was never this worried about anything and Aphrodite normally doesn't care about her.

,,Listen Thea i know you've been following what he's been doing since you left him" Ares spoke with a firm voice ,,so stop being stubborn and let Hermes explain"

Athena nodded giving Hermes the go to talk. ,,So you know he's been chased by Poseidon, met circe, got to the underworld, spoke to tirisias, met a siren, and went into Scylla's cave right?" Athena only nodded. ,,Okay so update! Eurylochus was the one who opened the wind bag-" ,,he what?!" She said.

Hermes nodded ,,Now Eurylochus then decided to start a mutiny for the killing of 6 men" Athena's eyes widened ,,is he aware he killed hunderts with the wind bag?" Hermes just continued ,,he then killed helios cows because of hunger. Helios cows are immortal though and instead of helios, Zeus got informed and arrived with them. He gave Ody the the choice to either sacrifice himself or his crew" Athena rolled the eyes ,,Since Ody became more ruthless he chose himself and Zeus struck down his last boat" Athena stopped him ,,okay that's it?" ,,no" Hermes answered and Ares sat down next to Athena while the Twins were already holding onto eachother.

,,So Zeus idea was to sent him to Calypso's island" Athena almost spoke again but was cut of by Hermes holding up his hand. ,,But someone just asked him for something and well the moral of the story is your warrior just woke up down in Atlantis" Hermes finished of. Athena froze holding back every bit of emotion she was currently feeling. ,,A-And what is Poseidon planing to do to him" the goddess asked. ,,making him feel the pain his son felt" Artemis answered. ,,we thought we should tell you" Aphrodite said resting her hand on Athena's shoulder.

,,if you want to be alone right now, we'll leave" Hermes said, looking worried. Athena now let the tears loose, earning a hug by Hermes.

-----------------------------------------

A while later she woke up again with her head resting on Aphrodite's lap who was sitting on top of Ares, the twins where sitting on the ground and Hermes on a chair. Athena knew it was pointless Arguing with Zeus about his punishment so she had to take matters into her own hands, and as it currently seemed she had a little army behind her.

She decided to worry about this the next day and now just went back to sleep. She hoped Ody would would be fine until she could come help him.

Chapter 3: Night terrors

Summary:

Odysseus first week at Atlantis

Notes:

In case you haven't noticed i dread writing the toture scenes since idk how( T∀T)

Anyways take this awfully short chapter

Chapter Text

Every night Odysseus awakes from hearing the screams of his crew and friends in his nightmares. He's been at Atlantis for a week now without anyone to bother him, it's like Poseidon wants to drive him insane from lonelieness.

Their dying screams keep repeating in his head. If that was actually Poseidon's plan it was working. With every waking hour he regretted his desicion more, he had no idea what was coming for him but rest assured he'll regret not choosing himself.

Dying might soon seem like the better option. But for right now he just basked in the silence of himself.

Without anyone to talk to it got really lonely, he heard people infront of the chambers he was locked in but the voices quickly fainted leaving an uncomfortable silence behind.

He was in a phase of suffering he hoped he'd soon get out of(he doesn't) and hoped someone get him out of here before Poseidon remembers he's here[that also doesn't happen]

Chapter 4: The Pain of pissing off a God

Notes:

It took me a while to figure out a torture scene :(

So now here's the pain :)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Odysseus awoke by the noise of a door opening into the cellar. Odysseus has now been in isolation for 2 months. Will that finally find an end.

The being walking through that door was someone he wasn't pleased to see....

Poseidon

He was carrying his trident as he slowly moved towards the captive man, a smug grin on his face. Odysseus shruddered by the sight of the God infront of him.

Poseidon didn't even talk he just stopped infront of him, looking down on the man before raising his trident and stabbing Odysseus' arm with it. Odysseus just screamed in agony and pain.

He repeated that action a couple of times before just leaving it there for a while, stuck in Odysseus' arm.

After 3 minutes of pain(in case it wasn't clear ody is chained) it got pulled out again and some liquid was poured on the wound. The wound started burning painfully and he squirmed around while screaming.

The liquid kept being poured and it got more painful by the minute, the screaming getting louder, not only him but also in his head.

It hurt.

I just want to see my wife and son again.

After the liquid stopped Poseidon left again, leaving the poison like stuff in the wound.

Some magic force moved some chains around to chain his neck to the wall.

Odysseus cried for hours, hallucinating his family, friends and crew.

Polities

His mother

Eurylochus

Ctimene

Telemachus

Penelope take your time, wait for me

Notes:

Anyone who guesses the 2 references in the last line get.....a cookie!

Chapter 5: 7 years he's kept you trapped, out of your control

Notes:

Almost done guys so be prepared to cry soon ♡

Chapter Text

Athena was pacing olympus, waiting for Hermes to come back with information on Odysseus state. It's been 7 years since they heard from him or Poseidon, not even Zeus has heard anything.

Don't question why Athena asked him, she didn't want to i promise.

The twins, Ares, Aphrodite and Hepheastus were sitting on a couch that is made out of roses. Persephone made it for olympus since there was parely anywhere to sit.

Talking about Persephone, she was looking around if Odysseus showed up in the underworld like....as a ghost.

The thought made Athena shrudder but she brushed it off.

As she sat her eyes on Hermes she felt hope rising in her. Apollo was also happy seeing him but that was for a whole 'nother reason.

,,Any news" Athena asked while Hermes walked towards her. Hermes looked at her with a pitiful look which drained any hope from the Goddess.

Nobody knew where Odysseus was or how he was doing. Athena knew she had to save him after the advice Telemachus gave her but didn't know how.

Poseidon didn't let Athena into Atlantis since...well..they hate eachother.

It was weird, nobody knew where he was. She knows she asked around.

~☆☆☆☆~

The nights got worse for the man in Atlantis, nightmares got more gruesome. What Poseidon did to him got worse by the years, pleasuing himself on Odysseus got an every day occurrance.

He prayed for Athena's or Hermes help everyday but he started doubt anyone would ever come for him but the last bit of hope would never die.

The hope of seeing his wife again was slowly dying and meeting his son seemed so unrealistic by now. He just wanted to go home and snuggle in the arms of his wife and hug his son for the first time, get to know him, train him.

Meet him.

Oh how he missed his family, his wife, his son, his sister, just everyone.

Home seems so far now when 20 years ago it seemed so close, so reachable and worst of all? He had no idea which breath would be his last due to the torture he indured every day.

He just wanted to see the face of his old friend, his great grandfather. All he wanted was to go home, a wish he started giving up on.

~☆☆☆☆~

Athena started pacing even more, not knowing what was going on with her best friend worried her. She regretted leaving all those years ago, her brain went crazy with the "what if she didn't leave"

He would be home by now.

His crew would still be alive.

He would've gotten to see Telemachus grow up.

So many what if's they made her wanna scream. Her thoughts were interrupted by a certain messager god bursting through the doors.

His face looked worried, and his breath was shaking almost as shaking as his voice when he spoke the words of hope.

,,i know where Odysseus is" followed by the words of worry.

,,But we have to hurry 'thea"

Chapter Text

Athena and Hermes were rushing down to Atlantis through Hermes special paths. Hermes tried explaining what he just heard Poseidon planning to do to Odysseus.

He failed miserably at that.

They hoped they'd make it there in time to stop the sea god in his grand plan.

~☆☆☆☆~

Odysseus' cellar was opening and a pretty woman was standing in front of him with all the might one might have. Odysseus would've stood up if he wasn't chained in a way that kept in on the ground.

The women introduced herself "my name is Amphitrite, Poseidon's wife" she bowed in the end and then crouched down infront of the man.

The king of ithaca looked at her in confusion until she spoke up again with a voice that sent shivers down his back "i am so sorry for what my husband is planning to do to you and i wish i could stop him"

She stood up straight again and spoke one last time "i hope they make it here in time". She then left again leaving Odysseus more confused.

Who were they?

~☆☆☆☆~

About 20 minutes later the door opened again, revealing the god that kept him here for years. The god unchained him and pulled him along behind him by his neck chain.

Arriving at the hall he arrived in the day of his crew dying, Poseidon threw Odysseus across the hall which made him fly against a pillar.

Poseidon spoke to him "You will experience your last breath today" and with that it dawn on the old king.

Poseidon wanted to kill him today.

He threw him around a bit until he was bleeding a lot and probably had a couple of broken bones.

Odysseus gave up, he couldn't move anymore even if he tried so he spent his last moments recalling his life:

He remembers it as if it was yesterday, the moment he laid his eyes upon Penelope for the first time. Originally he was trying to help menelaus get with Helen of sparta but in the process he laid eyes upon Penelope, a woman he thought was blessed by Aphrodite, prettier than Helen.

The first time he saw her he knew she was the one for him, the woman he wanted to marry. So when he introduced Helen and Menelaus and suggested an oath to the king(one he also swore upon) he offered his suit towards Penelope, who seemed stunned that a man would choose her over her cousin.

The king accepted and they spent a lot of time together, Penelope ended up falling for him and one day Penelope threw an Apple at Odysseus which he caught with perfection.

It was official they were getting married.

~♤♤♤♤~

On their wedding day, everyone showed up, his sister and her boyfriend Eurylochus, his best friend Polities, menelaus and Helen, Athena, his parents, his friends, her family, just everyone.

It was a big party (something her father wanted), with a lot of dancing and drinking.

It was a special day.

At the end of the day Odysseus gave Penelope her wedding gift, a bed made out of the tree they officially met at.

A month later he finished building a palace around that tree.

~♤♤♤♤~

He remembered the sounds she made when they made Telemachus, all the pleasure screams that came from her mouth, her nails on his back, the feeling of her around him, him in her, her hair in his hand, the texture of her skin.

The moment she told him she was pregnant was the happiest moment of his life, they cried for hours just hugging eachother.

~♤♤♤♤~

He cried when his sister, ctimene was the one in a white gown, standing at the alter and kissing the love of her life.

The talk he had with Eurylochus back then was the scariest of Eurylochus' life, he made him swear he'd never do her wrong or leave her(never did he expect he'd be the reason his sister no longer had a husband)

The smile on Eurylochus' face when he gave his final approval was a face he'd never forget.

The love in their eyes made him tear up.

~♤♤♤♤~

When Helen got kidnapped and Menelaus begged for his help, he knew he had to leave cause of that stupid oath that was even his idea.

They planned on it for weeks, build stuff for an eternity.

~♤♤♤♤~

When his son was born was a moment he wouldn't forget even after his death, the tears, the fear, the happiness.

The tears of happiness and relief.

The fear of doing something wrong.

The happiness of finally holding his son.

But there was also sadness when he realised he had to leave for troy soon and didn't know when he would return.

~♤♤♤♤~

In troy he met some cool and nice people, people he'd never forget.

Diomedes, who stabbed to gods.

Patroclus, who died for the person he loved.

Achilles, who killed Hector of troy.

And so many other cool and amazing people.

~♤♤♤♤~

He remembers all the people he met on his way home:

Polyphemus, the cyclops that he blinded.

Aeolus, the wind goddess that gave him the wind bag to help him.

Circe, the sorceress that helped him get to the underworld.

Hermes, who helped him defeat Circe.

Tiresias, the prophet that forsaw his future.

The Sirens, that he outsmarted.

Scylla, the monster that ate 6 of his men.

Zeus, who killed his crew.

He was forever grateful for some of them (fuck Zeus and Poseidon).

And now he was laying here, listening to Poseidon walking towards him as he imagined seeing his crew, best friend and parents again.

So when Poseidon raised his trident above Odysseus, a smile crept onto his lips.

Thank you

~☆☆☆☆~

Hermes and Athena froze for a second as they heard an agonizing scream from the direction they were going. Athena was the first one to move again as she grabbed Hermes hand and ran towards the direction.

Hermes slammed the door open and Athena let out a scream that mimiced the one they heard earlier. There he was laying on the floor bleeding out.

Her best friend, the kid she met years ago he was so happy back then, she wished their last conversation wasn't a fight, she wished she'd come save him earlier.

She walked towards him with tears streaming down her face.

Her student...was dead and there was nothing she could do about it except cry. She broke down next to him and Hermes now also started screaming.

All Athena could hear was Hermes running towards her until her brain shut off, repeating one line over and over again.

Why was she so stubborn, why didn't she help him.

~☆☆☆☆~

The next thing she knew was that she was carrying that lifeless body of her student as her and Hermes flew him to ithaca.

After arriving on the shores of Ithaca they walked through the streets with people looking after them. The first time they stopped was at the palace, getting stared at by the guards who immediately rushed to get his wife and son.

They arrived at the same time and Penelope looked at Athena in shock while Telemachus looked happy seeing her again until they both looked down at the body she was holding.

They faces dropped and when they looked even closer Penelope screamed, a scream that sounded exactly like the one Odysseus gave in his last breathing moment.

They were really made for eachother.

Only diffrence was that when Penelope screamed every maid, guard and suitor rushed outside to see what was going on. Penelope and Telemachus were crying, the suitors let out a celebration scream(Athena really couldn't stand them) and the guards and maids were shocked at the body.

~☆☆☆☆~

The next year went by quite quick:

Odysseus got a funeral.

Athena and Hermes explained beforehand what happened to the rest of his crew which made many people not show up.

Penelope had to immediately choose a new husband.

Why ever she chose the worst one, Antinous, Athena would never understand.

They married almost exactly after she chose him.

The other suitors had to go home.

And now they were here, Athena spent almost everyday at the palace to make sure Telemachus was fine due to Antinous choosing to abuse him, telling him stories about his father when he was down.

She helped him clean up after some of the things he did to the maids, fixing them up, cleaning their wounds, getting them dressed again, cleaning the bodies of the ones that didn't survive his wrath.

At the same time she and the prince had to listen to screams coming from Penelope's chambers everyday. Screams of pain, screams that made Athena certain that Odysseus would kill him for this if he could.

Athena also helped Penelope with the blood and wounds on her thighs and the wounds on her breasts. Watching her only holding one for 2 reasons: Telemachus and the kingdoms faith.

She wondered how long this would go on.

Not even her brother, Penelope's patron god could help her, though not for the lack of trying.

Athena knew that ithaca was doomed unless ctimene got out of her grief for her husband and somehow manages to become Queen.

It was over for them and there was nothing she could do about it.

So when Poseidon raised his trident above Odysseus, a smile crept onto his lips.

~☆- Wait what's happening? Oh well no skip needed :)

Odysseus opened his eyes wondering why the trident didn't come to an impact. Over him he saw a women with wings widely spread who he reconised as...

,,Athena...?" He asked with a voice barely above a whisper, the goddess only smiled at him as she took Poseidon's trident and threw it away.

Hermes was already calling for back-up and then before anything else could happen, he blacked out.

~☆☆☆☆~

When he woke up he felt Athena's arms around him and Apollo healing him, looking around he saw Artemis, Ares and Hermes chain Poseidon to one of the pillars. Aphrodite was sitting next to Athena, holding onto her shoulder to calm her down.

When Athena realised he was awake she let out a scream of relief. Everyone else ran towards them and Apollo made sure his bones worked properly again.

It all was confusing, Athena was hugging him, Hermes hugged him, Aphrodite and Ares were happy in different ways and Artemis high fived Apollo.

~☆☆☆☆~

The next thing Odysseus knew was that Athena and Hermes carried him to his home, finally he gets to see his family again.

They arrived and Athena set an exausted Odysseus down who dropped in the sand and quickly got up. They walked towards his home, his family.

On the way up the hill he could already see the guards shocked faces then turning into happy and relieved faces as they rushed inside getting his wife and son.

Seeing the face of his wife and son made tears well up in his eyes. When Penelope saw him she screamed, running towards him with a boy he identified as Telemachus quickly following her lead.

They melted into a long hug and Penelope's scream made everyone rush outside.

The guards and maids looked relieved and a group of men he identified as suitors started panicking, some even running of.

But for now he was just happy seeing his family again.

~☆☆☆☆~

The coming year was a really busy one:

Odysseus sent the suitors away.

His sister came to visit and was shining with happiness of seeing her brother.

He had to tell everyone what happened to his crew, which broke ctimene a bit but she understood her brothers decision.

Penelope sent out letters telling family and friends that Ody was back.

A funeral was held for his crew.

They all got funeral shrouds that they hung outside the palace with their names on them.

They spent days together to bond.

Athena was always around making sure nothing happened to them anymore. Watching over them.

And now we're here Odysseus watching Athena and Telemachus train together, his wife by his side.

He keeps far away from the shore of Ithaca and the sea in general.

He asked Hermes to deliver thank you letters to everyone that helped him.

And everything was finally perfect and he was happy again.

Notes:

And that it!
You guys can choose what ending you like more and that's the canon one for you ♡♡♡♡

One more extra chapter will come

Chapter 8: Extra:The Letters

Notes:

A little smth as bonus for making it this far

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

The first letter arrived in sparta with Helen and Menelaus. When it arrived Helen opened it full of energy and read it out load to her husband:

"Dear Helen and Menelaus,
I write you to inform you about the arrival of my husband.
My husband arrived a couple of days ago, rescued by the goddess Athena out of Poseidon cruelness.
I hope you guys can come visit soon and see for yourself.
Your cousin and friend Penelope♡"

Helen and her husband started crying and Helen started screaming in happiness and quickly informed the guards that they had to travel to ithaca soon to give the king a warm welcome.

~☆☆☆☆~

Another Letter arrived on Aeaea, delivered by Hermes personally.

,,Circe dawling!" He called out and when he spotted her he gave her the letter.

Circe opened it carefully and read it out load for her nymphs to hear.

"Dear Circe,
Me, Odysseus of Ithaca informs you that i have arrived home with my wife and son and for that i wanted to thank you.
Thank you for letting us go and getting us to the underworld.
Sadly my crew didn't make it due to Zeus killing them but here i am thanking everyone that crossed my path.
Thank you, Odysseus"

Circe and her nymphs were now standing outside and Circe looked up to the sky.

She just stood there waiting until her nymphs were all gone ,,Good job Odysseus!" She mumbled under her breath as she went back inside.

~☆☆☆☆~

The next Letter traveled up on a certain island in the sky, were Aeolus was already sat down and Hermes sat down next to them.

He gave the letter over to his bestie who just opened it and read it:

"Dear Aeolus,
Me, Odysseus of Ithaca wanted to inform you that i made it back home to my family and for that i wanted to thank you.
Without you i would've not been able to collect the memories i have now.
Thank you, Odysseus"

Aeolus jumped up already at the start of the letter and celebrated for his success, screaming ,,CONCRATULATIONS!" in the winds.

~☆☆☆☆~

Hermes than traveled into the underworld, bringing a letter to tirisias who obviously predicted this.

So since he couldn't read it but already knew what Odysseus felt he kept his trip there short.

His next stop were Hades and Persephone who got 2 letters, one for them and one for his dead loved ones.

Hades read the one for them out load:

"Dear King and Queen of the underworld,
I hope my crew and mother are taking care properly with you two.
I really appreciate you two taking care of them.
Odysseus"

Persephone started growing flowers in her hair out of happiness and accompanied Hermes to the crew and Anticlea.

The Letter was given to Polities who read it out load:

"My dear crew,
I miss you dearly and i'm so sorry.
Polities, i miss you every second of my days.
Eurylochus, my sister misses you dearly and hopes you're doing okay.
Elpenor, i'm sorry for forgetting you.
And the rest i am so sorry.
You Captain and friend Odysseus"

The entire crew cried and Anticlea took the letter reading the last bit:

"Oh and Goodbye mom"
