Work Text:

As the last candle lights up, the flame giving off a slight warmth as it flickers, setting the atmosphere. The table set, two beers and thai food spread out across the red cloth, filling the background noise is soft, gentle music used as an attempt of soothing. It’s the best Eddie can do for his grieving boyfriend, of course Eddie is also deep in grief but they need stability right now in their relationship to help support each other through this rough time time period and processing the loss of their mutual loved one, Fire Captain, Peepaw, Bobby Nash.

Jumping slightly at the sudden noise, with the clattering of the keys against bare skin, the handle coming down and the door flying open with a slight creak. Buck walks in, pushing his weight to the floor, stumbling over slightly, it was evident to anyone even those who have never met Buck that he is struggling. Taking long strides over, Eddie offers him his hand and helps put away his belongings. The moment Buck takes in the view before him he melts into the atmosphere and his gaze softens as he cups Eddie’s cheecks and murmurs “what’s all this for?”

Eddie explains his reasonings, expressing his concern and how he believes in this time they need eachother, a shoulder to lean on. At that response, Buck’s lips lands upon his in a delicate, loving way. Soft skin against slightly chapped, moving in perfect symphony, hums on contentment filling the air. “Shall we sit?” Eddie nudges Buck slightly, indicating towards the chairs.

And so they do, holding hands across the table, eyes red and waterry as they share their favoured memories of Bobby. Kissing every now and again, the feeling was perfect. Grief and sadness still heavy in each others hearts but balancing out as they share the pain and comfort eachother through each moment of it. Everything was perfect, the food savoury, already slightly drunk and giggles flooding out of their mouths.

“What on Earth?!” a hollow shriek sets them clambering up, Eddie falling back and placing himself directly in front of Buck, enough for him to see but hidden enough for protection. Eyes widening at the sight before them, a ghastly figure, translucent and in the form of Captain Robert Nash, a broken whimper lets out behind Eddie so in an attempt to gather his thoughts Eddie, barely above a whisper, questions, “Cap?” stuttering slightly. Bobby stood with his hands on his hips “I’ve been dead for a few days and I come to check in on my team and you guys are together?” he’s shouting but not in disapproval or anger it was more, disbelief? Before either of the two could comment, Bobbys facial expression goes blank as he stares the two down “Eight years. I have waited EIGHT YEARS for you two finally get things together. Care to explain?”

Buck seemingly mute behind Eddie pushes him forward, tears streaming to get him to explain, “well, we’ve been together for a year it’s been a sec-“ A loud gasp. Bobby in an attempt to make a scene dramatically falls trying to grab the table but then falls directly through it. Being a ghost and all.

“A YEAR?? Oh my fucking God.” hand supposedly slapping over his mouth Bobby looks up and makes the cross symbol murmuring his pleads for forgiveness, “You made me curse the Lord above,” Sighing, he stares at the two, Buck looks pale and appears to be crying but also looks like he’s going to simultaneously throw up and explode. Eddie has tears in his eyes, mouth agape in shock, shaking slightly, hand reached out and clutching onto Buck seemingly losing himself to reality.

Bobby flaps his arms about, then crosses them around his chest. “I’m not angry, just disappointed,” pausing for any input but agrees with himself the two are barely conscious “I love you guys, I’ll always be with you.”

As he disappears into wherever a quiet yet serious toned voice yells “Don’t have sex on my grave!”
