Work Text:

In the middle of a college party filled with drunk teenagers, loud music, and messy house lights with various colours shining across the walls and faces of those present, Lara was enjoying herself. Despite attending many parties, she managed to keep her grades above average. As she danced and chatted with her friends, she caught sight of someone from the corner of her eye. Sophia, a smart and responsible girl, consistently ranked academically at the top of the class. Lara had admired her for quite some time, but the only thing standing in her way was Sophia’s boyfriend. She knew that Sophia was also interested in girls, just not her; instead, she was with some random guy who did the bare minimum for someone so deserving. If only Lara had a chance to prove her worth, she was certain she could win over Sophia in an instant. Noticing Sophia dancing alone, without her boyfriend, curiosity got the better of Lara, prompting her to approach. “Hey, Soph, why’re you dancing alone?” she asked, leaning close so that Sophia could hear her over the music. “I’m not talking to Jacob anymore,” came the reply, laced with a dreadful expression. “Why? What’s wrong?” Lara inquired out of curiosity. “He’s just annoying, " Sophia answered vaguely, leaving Lara confused yet relieved that Sophia no longer cared about him. Maybe she actually had a chance? “Come on, let’s sit down, " Lara suggested, leading Sophia to an empty sofa where they settled. They chatted casually for a while about recent events. Lara heard something about Sophia's boyfriend lying to her, but her thoughts were consumed by the sensation of Sophia’s head resting on her shoulder, her own arm wrapped around Sophia, drawing her closer.

They were so close yet so far apart. Lara was already planning ways to prove herself to Sophia. She wanted to bridge the gap between them right now, maybe even take her back to her dorm. But she pushed those thoughts away, bringing herself back to the moment she was in. The weight of Sophia grew heavier as she leaned further into Lara’s arm, the rush of the night slowly exhausting her. “You seem tired,” Lara pointed out. Sophia turned her head and answered softly, “Maybe I should go sleep.”

“Come on, I’ll walk you back to your dorm,” Lara offered while the other nodded, slowly standing up. Lara gently grabbed her wrist and walked out of the party with her. When they reached the stairs leading to the dorm, she wrapped her arm around Sophia’s waist to assist her. The dark sky, cold atmosphere, and empty roads indicated that it was late at night. Sophia glanced at the crescent moon resting atop the soft clouds before turning her head back to Lara, who walked in front of her. “Come on,” she gestured with her hand intertwined with Sophia’s. Upon reaching her dorm, Lara made sure to admire Sophia once more, leaning against her doorframe and waving goodnight to her.
The next day, Sophia woke up to the sunlight peeking through her windows, bouncing from the wall onto her face. She grabbed her phone from the dresser beside her bed. Realising it was a Sunday, she put it back down and lay down in bed again. Her mind drifted back to the party yesterday; the thought of her ex was a bitter memory. Suddenly, her thoughts turned to Lara, who had comforted and listened to all of her problems, and how she was kind enough to walk her back to her dorm, even though they weren’t that close. They were good friends who spoke casually to each other every once in a while. Maybe she should text her and thank her. She sat up and reached for her phone again, sending a cute message to Lara.
“Hey, did you sleep well last night? I just wanted to thank you for walking me back to my dorm.” Not expecting a reply soon, she put down her phone but picked it up again when she heard the buzzing sound. Lara had already replied to her.
“Anytime, it’s not a big deal :) ” Sophia smiled at her words and texted her back. They chatted for a while before the topic turned to hanging out. Lara invited her to her dorm, and Sophia eagerly agreed, rushing out the door. She walked quickly down the hall to Lara’s dorm and knocked on the door, which opened to reveal the red-haired girl standing before her, gesturing for her to come inside. Lara’s room was well-decorated with posters on the walls and a table across from her bed holding her laptop. “You decorated it really well,” she complimented, causing Lara to blush slightly. She sat on Lara’s bed and looked up at her. “Do you have any hobbies?” she asked. Lara turned to her and replied, “I like singing; sometimes I also produce.” Sophia’s eyes widened at the last word; eager to know more, she continued asking questions, while Lara answered everything with a smirk, openly admiring Sophia. When Lara played one of her songs, Sophia listened intently. Lara’s voice sent goosebumps down her spine, gradually calming her mind. Impressed, Sophia couldn’t help but express her appreciation. “Your voice is addicting, I’m losing my mind.” The words slipped from her lips, and Lara smiled softly as she sat down beside her. “You’re so sweet, thank you,” she replied, gazing deeply into her eyes. They maintained that gaze for a while; the eye contact had both of them mesmerised. Lara’s slender eyes contrasted sharply with Sophia’s round ones. Lara’s gaze fixed on the other girl’s lips, which glistened with gloss. A shiver ran down Sophia’s spine when she noticed Lara staring at her lips and then back at her eyes, their hands just barely touching, the closeness driving her insane. The way Lara looked at her made something snap inside Sophia.

They eventually returned to reality and spoke as if nothing had happened. Time flew while they were together; the sun was setting, and the girls were getting hungry. Lara suggested, “Wanna go eat somewhere?” Sophia didn’t even think once before nodding. They walked outside to a nearby cafe to satisfy their appetite. The building was so well-decorated that they took cute pictures together to send to their friends. When their food arrived, Sophia stopped Lara from eating it just to take a picture before they dug in, ruining the visual of the dishes. The soft background music blended with the cafe's atmosphere and complemented their sweet conversation about their favourite foods from where they were from. They wished that this moment would last forever.

After they ate, the sky darkened and the roads emptied. Tired of walking back to the dorms, they called their friend Daniela to pick them up in her car. As Sophia looked around the street, she spotted a telephone booth and, out of curiosity, pulled Lara along with her. They took more pictures as the phone booth’s lighting looked great against the dark background. When they took a picture with their faces close together, Lara got a bit nervous but managed to hide it well, until the moment when Sophia was practically hugging Lara with her arms wrapped around her waist. It only got worse when she mentioned, “You look like you could be my girlfriend,” while looking through the pictures of them. “I treat you much better than he did, don’t I?” she teased back, and to her surprise, she agreed. “Of course you do,” Sophia responded, making Lara flustered. Lara gently brushed her thumb against Sophia’s face, “You’re so sweet, I swear.” She looked into Sophia’s eyes with that fierce gaze, the kind that makes others weak for her. Her gaze flickered from Sophia's eyes to her lips every few seconds, and so did Sophia’s.

After the seconds of unresolved tension, Lara was tired of holding back; she moved closer to Sophia just to see what she would do, but instead of pulling back, Sophia’s hand held onto Lara’s neck. The small action made Lara snap, pulling her into a gentle kiss. They moved their lips softly against each other’s at first, but the kiss grew deeper, with their bodies pressed against each other, held close by Lara’s arms. The world around them seemed to disappear, with the only thing they could think about being the feeling of them pressed against each other.
