Chapter 1: Meeting

Chapter Text

Roxanne has made some really stupid decisions in her life.

Travelling deep into the Earth to find the lost city of Atlantis – good idea.

Getting violently thrown from the truck in an explosion when she didn't hold on tightly enough – bad idea.

Getting smacked with a rock and knocked out without even a resource pack – also a bad idea.

Dizziness blurs her vision. Her chest stings. Everything feels heavy.

“Ohhhh,” she groans, eyes swaying into focus. Several pairs of glowing evil blue eyes are looking back at her and she choked on a silent scream.

“Ah!” Her whole body tensed. She tried to pull her legs in, immediately wincing from the pain.

Their heads were huge! Almost the size of her body! Must be massive animals right up on her! Something large that survived down here and wants to eat her?

Terror dripped ice cold down her chest as wide eyes darted around, trying to see in the dark.

She doubled back and nearly screamed at the face shoving itself closer.

No, not animal? Person? Consarn, that's— Fear flashed, quickly turning to amazement, quickly turning to thrill, quickly turning back to fear as the person moved closer.

What do they want? Is she invading? Are they hostile? Going to hurt her? She's all alone here.

She left her hat, thus her stabby hat pins, on the tank, plus she doesn't have her self defence umbrella either… (Her local suffrage movement leader would give her an earful if she knew. This is the 20th century! Every self-respecting woman of Washington D.C. should always be prepared!)

Roxanne tried to scramble back against this giant boulder, but grunted sharply in pain, grabbing her chest and shoulder.

Her hand came back bloody— consarn it! —she'll look weak in front of—

Her eyes turned back as her whole face went slack with shock, her jaw dropping almost comically wide. Roxanne stopped breathing entirely.

It was a man. An extremely blue man.

He had lifted the terrifying mask. (His cranium was larger than normal, but not in a scary or unpleasant way like the mask.)

An Atlantian!!! She could kiss him!

The evil blue eyes were actually blue lights from something on his neck. And his eyes weren't blue at all. They were aggressively green and actually glowing in the bioluminescent light. They were like two incredible green jewels set on fire.

His blue face was very angular with shadowed cheekbones. Stunning is the only appropriate word for how attractive he was, and that's not strong enough. The sharp lines of his jaw didn't detract from his soft, shapely lips, pulled down in an expressive pout.

Sheer, tangible worry was written all over his face. It was unmistakable.

But then his gaze rose to meet hers and the expression shifted.

He looked just as surprised to see her as she was to see him. The look of concern gorgeously mingled with deep curiosity.

He moved closer with a tilting gaze and her eyes widened, heat flooding her.

What was his intention? They were brushing against each other.

She has never been this close to a man! Let alone a … an alien?

But he left no space between them.

Roxanne leaned harder into the boulder. A lump formed in her throat, preventing her from screaming as the person crawled their legs and knees on the ground between hers.

Oh no no no—

He didn't say a word, but he drew back slightly.

“Wait! What are— ahh!” She winced sharply against the pain.

His illuminating eyes were fixated on her chest where blood was trickling down her shirt.

Closing the distance between them, blue fingertips grasped the edge of her ruined blouse, pulling it down and she felt like she was dying. Or going to die. She's definitely going to die. Her heart is going to explode.

Frowning, he pulled a—glowing crystal out of his coverings?!

His eyes flicked to hers only a moment, almost remorsefully, before he raised the crystal to her chest for a few seconds. Quickly, he lowered the crystal and moved her blouse more open!

“H-how dare you— ah!” She gasped again, mouth gaping as he firmly pressed his bare hand flat against her exposed chest. Skin to skin. Blue to Pink.

A jolt of something… alive went straight from his hand to her body. The pain was intense and brief. Then light and loud warmth burst through her, emanating from where he was touching her.

“Oh,” she exhaled, relief flooding her. It was gone. The horrible pain had vanished. Still, his hand lingered on her bare chest.

She watched as he slowly dropped it away, revealing completely healed skin and a blue print in the shape of his hand over her heart.

It looked scandalous there, proof of his inappropriate touch. For a brief, crazed moment, she thrilled at the idea of being permanently marked by this exotic man. But the print faded and her breathing returned.

He–

He helped her. He healed her—how did he do that?!? And he didn't even hesitate–to help her? She invaded his plane, destroyed his home… And here she was afraid he was going to hurt her.

With a deep breath, she looked up at his face again, this time, finding a completely relieved and relaxed expression. The man’s lip smirked as the expression drifted into something decidedly sultry.

Hot blood flushed through her at his proximity. He had literally crawled on top of her like a husband might dote on his bride.

And yet, she wished the movement would stretch. He entranced her so.

The pale blue light emitted around them, casting shadows and illuminating their features. It made him seem all the more beautiful. Like a man hewn from nature and stone, meticulously carved with care and admiration for the physical form.

It was impossible for her to miss.

The next instant, he ran. Heavy machinery broke through the rubble, nearly pummeling her, but she hardly noticed. Rock scraped against her hands and feet as she fruitlessly chased after her acrobatic rescuer and his friends.

“Wait!”

But no one answered. She didn't give up, climbing the direction they disappeared into, until it broke into a clearing.
