ACT 1
INT. THE OLDEST HOUSE - DAY
A TV glows with the image of a janitor mopping the floor while humming a tango to himself. The TV is facing the screen.
TOPHER (O.S.)
I'm so bored.
MEG (O.S.)
Me too Topher.
TOPHER and MEG walk into the scene.
TOPHER
Look Meg, a TV!
TOPHER runs toward the TV but MEG stops him half way.
MEG
Topher, stop! Remember the Bureau rules. There are
dangerous things all over the Oldest House. We need to be
careful.
TOPHER
(disappointed)
You're right, Meg.
MEG takes a pause as she focuses on the humming coming from the TV.
MEG
Do you hear that, Topher? It sounds like someone is
humming.
TOPHER
I think it's coming from the TV. Look it's on.
MEG and TOPHER both listen to the humming in silence.
MEG
It sounds nice.
TOPHER slowly approaches the TV. MEG is too distracted by listening to the humming to stop him this time.
TOPHER
Woah.
TOPHER is transfixed by the TV. He's almost completely frozen, he can't look away.
MEG
Topher?
TOPHER is completely unchanged which worries MEG. She approaches TOPHER to check on him.
MEG
Topher? Topher? Can you hear me? Oh no.
As MEG tries to snap TOPHER out of his altered item induced trans, MR. BONES enters the scene.
MR. BONES
I see Topher has gotten himself into some trouble.
MR. BONES and MEG both stare at TOPHER who is still completely frozen staring at the TV.
MEG
Will he be okay?
MR. BONES
He might be, he might not be. You see Meg, when you come
across someone who seems to have been affected by an
altered item you need to let the doctors know. Do you know
where the Research sector is?
MEG
Yes I do.
MR. BONES
Good, good. There are two possiblities awaiting our friend
Topher; either the doctors of the Bureu will be able to
reverse the effects of the altered item or he will sit by this
TV never to be the same again forever.
MEG starts to cry.
MEG
No! No, there should be another way. I don't wanna lose
Topher. Maybe the Director can help him.
