Chapter Text
(Nathan Garrett’s POV.)
Oct 14 10:30 AM
Wright Anything Agency.
Nathan and Trucy are sitting down on the couch to find something to watch on the tv.
Nathan: *sigh* There’s nothing good on tv right now.
Trucy: Are you still a little upset about being slightly ignored yesterday?
Nathan: Not really. No one heard me at first, but Mr. Engino did eventually told me that they had vegetable kebabs there so it all worked out.
Trucy: Well… your answer was overshadowed by Maya screaming “ABSOLUTELY!”
Nathan: Speaking of Maya, were you also surprised when she ordered four burgers there?
Trucy: No, I’ve known her since shortly after daddy adopted me. So I got used to her habits pretty quickly.
Nathan: Habits?! This is a regular thing for her?
Trucy: Oh yeah. She can be a bit of a glutton. But her favorite foods are from Burger Barn and Eldoon’s Noodles.
Nathan: Between this and her fascination with the Steel Samurai, it’s hard to imagine that she’s the master of her own village…
Trucy: Do you still want to go see her village someday?
Nathan: Of course. It sounds nice from what I heard.
Trucy: It’s really nice! You’ll definitely like it!
Nathan: Anyway, where’s your dad at the moment?
Trucy: He left to go to the prosecutor’s building to talk to uncle Edgeworth.
Nathan: (How many people does Trucy see as family?)
Nathan: Everyone in this agency talks about the chief prosecutor like you guys personally know him. What’s Mr. Edgeworth's connection with this firm?
Trucy: He and my daddy were friends during grade school, but something happened that got them separated.
Nathan: What happened?
Trucy: It’s a LONG story. It’s better for my daddy to tell you. Anyway, what’s important is that they eventually reconnected. And uncle Edgeworth regularly helped me and my daddy out during his disbarment.
Nathan: (I REALLY need to read Mr. Wright’s old case files… I’m missing too much context.)
Athena walks inside the room.
Athena: Good morning!
Nathan: Morning, Athena. You seem pretty happy today.
Athena: Well that’s because I want to introduce you to someone!
Nathan: Oh really? Who would that be?
Athena: This person is my best friend and my girlfriend!
Trucy: *GASP* Juniper’s here!
Nathan didn’t get a time to say anything because of Trucy’s excitement as she rushes to the door to see Juniper.
Trucy: Hi Juniper!
Juniper: Oh! Hi Trucy! It’s nice to see you again!
Athena: Oh come on, Trucy! I wanted to do a grand reveal to Nathan!
Trucy: How many times do I have to remind you that I’m not good at containing my excitement?
Nathan: (There’s a lot of things that I need to get used to here…)
Juniper: Um… could you two not argue about my “reveal”?
Athena: Oh… sorry Junie…
Juniper: It’s okay, Thena. I don’t mind not having a “grand reveal”. It’s not a big deal.
Nathan got up from the couch and walked towards the group.
Juniper: Hello, my name is Juniper Woods. It’s nice to meet you, Nathan.
Nathan: It’s nice to meet you too. I take it that Athena has already talked about me to you?
Juniper: Yes. She’s spoken pretty highly of you, despite you being in the agency for only three days so far. She also mentioned that you’re a very skilled zoologist.
Nathan: That I am. Do you have any questions about any animals right now?
Juniper: Which flower is best for hummingbirds here?
Nathan: The California fuchsia is definitely the best option. Why do you ask?
Juniper: I currently live with Thena in a small apartment room while also being a student at Ivy University. The two of us are planning on moving to a small house after I graduate. And I was planning on getting a garden for the house. I was going to ask Ms. von Karma this, but she’s usually pretty busy.
Nathan: Awww, that’s sweet. Glad I could help.
Athena: One of Junie’s favorite things is animals as well! The two of us went to an insect convention a couple weeks ago, and she got to hold a rhinoceros beetle in her hands!
Nathan: Really?! That’s cool! I got to go to one of those events someday.
Athena: There were a bunch of spiders there too, but we all know they’re not insects.
Trucy: Well, when else would they show them off?
Nathan: They could make a spider convention, but considering how many people have arachnophobia… it probably won’t do too well…
Athena: I used to be afraid of them, but Junie taught me that most of them are our friends. She’s so kind and brave!
Juniper: Oh, Thena. I can say the same thing about you.
Juniper leaned forward to give Athena a kiss on the cheek.
Athena: Hehe… thanks.
Nathan: How long have you two been dating?
Athena: Since July. The two of us have been trying to reconnect with each other since last year, and after a while it quickly shifted to both of us having romantic feelings for one another.
Nathan: Wait… since July? If you don’t mind me asking, how come it wasn’t sooner?
Juniper: Um… well that’s because… I initially had a crush on Apollo…
Nathan: …………… Huh?
Trucy: I remember that. Polly was also completely oblivious to it. Even when she knitted him a scarf with hearts on it during the winter, he still didn’t take a hint.
Juniper: I was a little disappointed when he decided to stay in Khura’in, but I understood his reasoning. Soon after he left, Thena and I started seeing each other more often, and… l believe you already know the rest of the story.
Athena: It all worked out for the better!
Nathan: (I know Apollo’s only human, but I have the feeling that I could possibly be disappointed in some small way when I eventually meet him…)
Nathan: Anyway, there’s one more thing that I want to ask about, Juniper. What are you studying for at Ivy University?
Juniper: I’m currently studying law so I can become a judge.
Nathan: Really? That’s incredible! Are you also a Themis graduate?
Juniper: Yes, I graduated this year actually.
Nathan: I went to Themis as well!
Juniper: Really?
Nathan: Yep! I was one of the best students back then!
Trucy: Wait a minute… you never told us about that at the cafe!
Nathan: (Why is she yelling?)
Nathan: It… never came up?
Trucy: As the boss of this agency, you should’ve told me about this before I approved your offer to join! Knowing which school you went to is very important information!
Nathan: Athena?… Did Mr. Wright ever asked you about your history like this?
Athena: Not at all…
Nathan: (Trucy’s reasoning is understandable, but she’s making it a bigger issue than it needs to be…)
Nathan: But… isn’t your dad the boss of the lawyer part of the agency?
Trucy: Oh!… sorry. Looks like I got ahead of myself. But you should still tell my daddy that you went to Themis.
Nathan: I’ll… try to remember to tell him the next time I see him.
Nathan: (Not like it would make a difference.)
Juniper: Moving back on topic, I was also one of the best students while I was there as well. So much so that I became the Student Council President.
Nathan: Really? That wasn’t a thing when I was there. But I’m glad that there’s some common ground between the two of us.
Athena: I’m glad that the two of you are already getting along well!
Juniper: I think it’s because we have a few things in common.
Athena: Well, that’s not always the case. I mean, you and I have different personalities and that didn’t stop the two of us from being together.
Juniper: True… and the rest of my friends from Themis are pretty different from me too.
Nathan: Detective Faraday and prosecutor von Karma are also in a relationship, even with their very different personalities.
Trucy: Don’t forget my daddy and uncle Edgeworth!
Nathan: As friends, right?
Trucy: …
Athena: …
Juniper: …
Nathan: (Why is everyone quiet?… wait… oh… OHHH…)
Nathan: Um… anyway. Juniper, what inspired you wanting to become a judge?
Juniper: Ever since I was ten, I always hated it when people were blamed or imprisoned for something they didn’t do. So when I learned what judges do for a living, I knew what goal I wanted to achieve in my life. And when I eventually become one, I will make sure that both sides will work together to find the truth.
Athena: Oh, Junie. Those words made you sound like an angel. *sniff*
Juniper: Thanks, Thena.
Nathan: I take it that you have a number of supporters?
Juniper: Yes, many people have shared their support for me over the months.
Nathan: Well, you just got another supporter. With your beliefs, I bet there won’t be a single false charge against anyone while you’re in the courtroom.
Juniper: Thank you, Nathan. You and everyone else’s support is what helps me to continue working to achieve this goal of mine.
Athena: Well, I’m happy that this introduction worked out well for both of you!
Nathan: (Even with Trucy’s burst of excitement.)
Juniper: If it’s alright with you, can I introduce my friends from Themis to you at some point, Nathan?
Nathan: Sure! What are their names?
Juniper: Robin Newman, Hugh O’Conner and Myriam Scuttlebutt.
Nathan: (Hugh O’Conner… wasn’t he the kid who suddenly left the school before I went there?)
Athena: Me and Junie are going to the movies, they're doing a second run of The Greatest Showman, and neither of us watched it before.
Trucy: Ooo that’s one of my favorites!
Juniper: We’ll be back after the movie is over, so we’ll see you guys soon.
Nathan: Have fun.
Athena: You bet!
Athena and Juniper walk out of the room.
Nathan: (Those two are very lucky to have each other.)
Nathan: So… Trucy, are your dad and Mr. Edgeworth… uh… you know… together?
Trucy: Yessir! They've been dating for quite some time now, it’s basically common knowledge at this point.
Nathan: How strong is their relationship right now?
Trucy: Well… let me tell you a little secret.
Trucy walked closer to Nathan and started whispering in his ear.
Nathan: YOU CAUGHT THEM DOING WHAT!?!?
