“Shit shit shit!” Barbie cursed as she paced around Blitz’s apartment.
Blitz had been hosting his sister for the time being until she got an apartment settled. He was glad to have her back in his life. Their dad would stop by to visit along with Fizz. Just to make sure they were adjusting well and not killing each other. Thankfully they were getting along like when they were kids. It was a little awkward on Barbie’s part since she felt bad about all she put Blitz through.
Blitz didn’t want her to feel like she owed him anything. As much as he was hurt and angry at her at the time, he still loved her as his sister. He’d do anything for her like giving her a place to stay.
But he was a bit surprised to see her looking so frantic.
“What’s going on with you?” Blitz wondered.
“I…I have a date tonight…” she muttered shyly, blushing a darker red.
Hearing the word ‘date’, Blitz gave her a sneaky smile. “Ooh! You’re dating Millie’s sister?” He grinned, putting on a teasing tone.
“Don’t be such a dork!” She scolded, swatting his shoulder. “W-We’ve been chatting online and texting after that whole trial bullshit and one thing led to another…”
“So it’s your first official date?” He guessed. At her nod he got off the couch and took her hands. “I’m happy for ya, sis.”
Barbie gave him a sheepish smile. “Aw thanks bro. I…I really like her and want this to go well, y’know?” She admitted.
“Don’t stress so much. You’re smart, funny, and cute as fuck; she already likes ya. Just show her a good time.” Blitz told her.
The taller twin smirked from his compliment, knowing he wasn’t spewing bullshit. That was one trait she admired about her brother. He spoke his mind and didn’t sugarcoat things. That might make him come across as a jerk to some people but she knew it came from a place of genuine care.
“Thanks bro. So…which outfit do you think I should wear?” She asked, looking at two options on the kitchen table. “The black dress with red accents or the black pants and orange dress shirt?”
Blitz looked at both options before he gave her a joking smile. “I can put them on so you can see how they’d look.” He offered, making her laugh.
“Dude you’re shorter than me! My clothes would look baggy on you!” Barbie giggled.
“Hey have a great figure!” Blitz told her, posing like a model. “Stolas says so!”
“Yeah but you’re still my widdle brother~” she teased, pinching his cheek.
(…)
It took a bit of extra time and playful banter between the twins but Barbie decided to go with the pants and shirt combo. She was grateful for that insight from her brother since it was starting to rain a bit. The young woman imp wasn’t about to give her date a show this early. The suit jacket was definitely a smart decision.
‘Shit I hope she didn’t get caught in the rain…’ Barbie thought, looking around for Sallie May. Their first official date was going to be dinner and then a movie. Just a nice simple ice breaker to get to know each other. She picked a restaurant that was nice but not too fancy (she wasn’t made of money yet). And a movie she thought they’d both enjoy—an action movie.
If things went really well, she’d take Sallie May to LuLu World.
“Barbie!” Barbie looked up and saw Sallie waving at her. The taller girl grinned as she ran up to her. She was totally dry under the awning in front of the restaurant.
‘Thank fuck! I’m not a shitty date!’ Barbie sighed internally in relief. “Howdy hey Sallie—!”
*SPLOOSH*
“May…”
Barbie gave the nastiest glare at the car that sped by, splashing her from a puddle. Her pants were soaked! Maybe the dress or skirt would’ve been a better choice. Looking down, the young imp could feel her leg start to get cold.
“HEY! WATCH IT, FUCKHEAD!” The girls yelled at the car in the distance, glancing to each other before laughing.
“Well that’s not how I wanted to start the night…” Barbie smiled bashfully.
“Hey it could be worse.” Sallie assured her, trying to wipe some of the excess water off. “Ya could’ve gotten in on the front. Damned near mortified my brother when he got lemonade on his pants and it looked like he pissed himself.”
“I hope this place has a good hand dryer…” Barbie sighed before holding the door open. “Shall we?”
“Oh how courteous.” Sallie giggled, making the both of them laugh. Sallie was as rough and tumble as they come but she didn’t mind being pampered a bit tonight. Barbie made her happy even through texts and phone calls.
They were soon seated by the aquarium, getting a good view of the fish and sea creatures.
“Wow this is a fancy place!” Sallie commented, looking around in awe.
“I remember you said you liked steakhouses and seafood.” Barbie recalled. “I wanted you to enjoy yourself tonight.”
“Aww you’re so thoughtful!” Sallie gushed. “I love a good steak but tryin’ seafood from Envy on a special night for the fam.”
“Oh yeah? What kinds do you like?” Barbie wondered.
“Scallops, shrimp, and light fish.” She listed off. “I don’t mind salmon and tuna but not in a can…too smelly.”
“I have no idea how my dad ate that crap growing up. Yeah it was cheap but it reeked.” Barbie shuddered, making Sallie laugh.
The girls ordered their drinks—lemonade for Barbie and an ice tea for Sallie May—before they were given free bread. Sallie May immediately took a bite out of one before her face screwed into a look of disgust. She looked down and saw little black seeds and onion in the bread before spitting it out.
“Blech!” She gagged, taking a quick swig of water. “I hate caraway!”
Barbie looked at the bread basket, seeing a wide variety of breads. “Let’s just eat the ones without seeds mixed in.” She suggested.
The girls quickly ate the bread without caraway or poppy or sesame, both despising the texture before their actual drinks came. They decided to order their meals with Sallie getting some blackened salmon and Barbie ordering a sirloin cooked medium.
“Good ya don’t eat steak that’s cooked into shoe leather.” Sallie joked, giving her a knowing smile. “And ya don’t eat it while it’s still mooing.”
Barbie snorted a bit from her joke. “R-Rare just seems like no point and I don’t want to fight with my steak to eat it.” She giggled.
“My sister’s crazy eating well done steaks. But I think now she’s been craving more medium rare. Must be the pregnancy thing.” The shorter girl shrugged.
“Makes sense.” She nodded before blushing. “Uh sorry about the snort…that was lame…”
Sallie smiled warmly as she chuckled a bit, gently touching her face. “I thought it was cute.”
(…)
Their dinner date was a…mixed bag. Sallie had gotten some spinach from her side stuck in her fangs and needed to spend some time in the bathroom flossing. It didn’t help her tea was watered down so she couldn’t rinse her mouth out. Barbie’s steak wasn’t the best cut with more gristle than actual meat. It was gross having to take the gristle from her mouth and leave it on the side of the plate. Thankfully Sallie May was more than happy to share some of her fish. And Barbie was happy to share her mashed potatoes as thanks.
They didn’t even want to trust dessert at this place since it was such a disaster. So they paid the bill with a tip—just so they didn’t get spit in their food next time.
“Honestly, a movie theater hot dog is sounding good right now…” Barbie groaned as Sallie patted her arm sympathetically.
“I’m sure the movie’s gonna be fun.” She reassured her. “How about I pay for the tickets and snacks?”
Barbie was thanking Lucifer that the movie didn’t sell out. She would’ve tackled the theater worker through the popcorn machine if that happened. Then again, the tickets would probably be the cheapest thing at the theater in comparison to snacks these days.
“Remember when it didn’t cost stupid money to go to the movies?” Sallie May joked, taking the popcorn, soda cups, and hot dog for Barbie.
“Oh fuck yeah. These days you’re lucky not to spend over $100 just on snacks alone.” Barbie chimed in, pocketing the candy they decided to get. “I don’t know about theaters in Wrath but I avoid movie theater pizza like the plague.”
“That bad?” She guessed.
“Basically it was like eating cardboard.” Their taller imp snarked.
They had gotten to their theater early and managed to find good spots pretty far back but not directly under the projector. And centered enough so they’d get a good view of the movie. Action movies were something they could both agree on and enjoy. And maybe during a lull in the action, they could kiss a bit.
“Want me to get a slushie for ya?” Sallie offered. “Yeah. Cherry if they got it.” Barbie nodded, settling the popcorn bucket in an empty seat next to her.
Barbie was zoning out a bit watching the commercials on the giant screen when she heard a yelp and a string of cursing. She winced as she saw Sallie May trudging back into the theater holding slightly less full slushie cups, a blue stain on her shirt. She was shivering too!
“Shit! What happened?” Barbie fretted, taking the cups and helping Sallie sit down.
“Some little turds bumped into me and knocked my slushie on me!” She grumbled, rubbing her arms to warm up. Barbie immediately took her jacket off and wrapped it around her shoulders.
“Sorry about that…guess we both got soaked tonight, huh?” She lightly joked.
Sallie blushed from the act of kindness. She leaned against Barbie’s shoulder, bundling the jacket around her. “Well…it’s not so bad.” She whispered.
Barbie let out a sigh as she took her hand. “I’m sorry this date’s been crap.” She started. “After everything I wanted this to go so right. To thank you for all you did.” Her shoulders slumped from disappointment. “Guess it wasn’t the best impression, huh?”
Sallie put her free hand on Barbie’s face before kissing her. “It doesn’t have to be perfect, ya know. I’m happy whatever we do. Hell, we could go to a Wrath-style steakhouse with a mechanical bull and I’d be happy!” She told her, grinning at Barbie’s stunned face.
“R-Really? You mean that?” Barbie whispered.
“Fuck yes!” She nodded emphatically, getting an idea. “Next time, I’m takin’ you to the best restaurant in Los Satanio!”
Barbie felt her face heat up as a smile formed. “Next time? I like the sound of that…” she giggled, offering popcorn to her date.
While it wasn’t the most ideal first official date, they definitely weren’t going to forget it. It would be funnier looking back down the line. It was awkward and they didn’t look their best by the end. But being with each other made it better.
And in the end, that’s what mattered.
