One bad step, and a few pebbles came tumbling down.

Two bad steps, and Leon lost his foothold. He scrambled in place for a few seconds, rocks cascaded down as he lurched forward and finally reached solid ground. He heard Togami scoff.

The hill leading up to the building was covered in chunks of concrete and marble, scrap and stone mixed together. No regard for what was rough grey or smooth white. Leon looked back. Dust particles drifted by in the sunlight, and for that moment Togami really did look straight out of a movie. Until he opened his mouth, of course.

“Tch. This is filthy. You expect me to enjoy traipsing about this wreck?”

Despite his harsh words, he had followed Leon this far. 

“We already came this far, so we might as well keep going.”

“Sunk cost fallacy.”

“What?”

“Nothing you would understand.”

Leon huffed.
Togami would never admit it, but he was seriously such a nerd about these things. Leon wondered how often he thought about anything that wasn’t business related.

Togami had paused, no longer as closely behind as before. He was looking around with an expression of mild disgust- which was typical, honestly, so it didn’t say much.

“This place doesn’t exactly scream ‘open to the public’.”

“It’s an abandoned church, dude, do you think people are allowed to just enter abandoned buildings whenever they please?

Togami’s brow furrowed like it always did when something he hadn’t considered came up.

“Why are we here, then? Don’t tell me you brought me all the way out here for views like this .”

Leon crossed his arms.

“We aren’t there yet- and unless you stop complaining, we won’t be getting there anytime soon! Since when do you care about rules, anyway?”

Togami stared Leon down. 

“…The blame will be on you.”

“Yeah yeah, just get up here already.”

Togami obliged. 

Running Away is Easy…

“I dunno. I like baseball, and when I was a kid I was fine with the idea of a career in it. But now? I dunno."

Leon glanced over at Togami. He was looking off to the distance, as if the far off hills could answer whatever questions plagued him.

“When I became the heir, I stopped playing violin.”

Leon sucked in a breath- he couldn’t help it. Finally, finally , he was getting something.

“Did you like the violin, or..?”

Togami shifted slightly from his perch on the roof. Leon was admittedly a bit worried about the possibility of the roof caving, this was an abandoned building afterall, but it wasn’t the right time to voice those concerns. Togami had probably already weighed the risks anyway.

“My mother taught me to play.”

What a non-answer, and yet... it was still more that Leon- or anyone in the class for that matter- had gotten from him yet. Leon studied the heir’s face, and found it blank. No emotions, nothing to read. Somehow, despite his sudden openness, his face was more expressionless than he’d ever seen it.

“My dad taught me how to play baseball. Guess I had a bit of a knack for it, though, so he really went hard on that.”

He hummed non committedly.
“This building appears unstable.”

It seemed that Togami had shared as much as he’d be willing to.

Day One:

The library door creaked, and Togami glanced up at it. He scowled. His imbecile classmates continued to pester him. 

Sakura was already holding a book- some meaningless romance drivel. He scoffed as she sat down.

“Tch. I have no interest in talking with the likes of you. Leave at once.”

She glanced up at him, for the first time since she entered.

“I am not here to talk, Togami-kun, I simply want to read.”

“Hmph. I didn’t think an ogre like you could read.”

“I am much more than a just martial artist, Togami.”

He rolled his eyes.

“... Whatever. Don't bother me.”

Day Twelve:

“I- I thought you… I thought you’d like it…!”

Togami gritted his teeth. When would this foolish, disgusting girl leave him alone?

“A foolish and baseless assumption. You disgust me. Get out of my sight.”

She gripped her hair- greasy and filthy, ugh- and stammered, “Bu- but…”

“Toko, I think it would be best if you left. The library is meant to be a quiet space.”

Togami startled slightly when Sakura cut in, he had nearly forgotten she was there with how quiet she always was.

Toko fumbled over some poor excuses before eventually seeing herself out. Thank God.

Togami glanced over to Sakura, but she had already resumed reading. Good. He turned back to his own book.

Day Thirty Nine:

The heir glanced up at Sakura, who was reading in silence a little ways away. He had started getting used to her presence in the library. 

She was relaxed, leaning back in the chair and looking at her own book. She was focused, paying no mind to Togami at all. 

She was reading a different book than usual today. She typically read worthless romance novels, but today…

“Is that The Picture of Dorian Gray ?”

She looked up, clearly a bit startled. She smiled, “yes, it is. Are you familiar?”

“Obviously.”

There was a moment of silence, of deliberation. 

He continued, “What do you think of it?”

Sakura looked surprised that Togami was initiating a conversation. He was a bit surprised too.

“It’s different from what I’d usually read, but it’s good.”

He nodded, and turned back to his own book. 

He didn’t see Sakura studying him in much the same way that he had done before.

“I heard you playing violin the other day.”

He tensed near imperceptibly- he was sure that it was late enough that nobody would have heard it.

“... And how do you know it was me?”

She smiled disarmingly.

“I saw you carrying the case yesterday. I was trying to figure out who had been playing so I could tell them how beautiful it sounded.”

“...”

He turned back to his book.

“Do you like playing, Togami?”

He glanced back up at her, annoyed, before scoffing and looking away without responding.

She got the hint, and went back to her own book. Good. She was less annoying than the rest of his classmates.

Day ??

“When you are born and raised for a role, the mere thought of anything else is worthless. A foolish and fruitless venture.”

Sakura hummed. 

“You think so?”

“Tch. I know so.”

Sakura glanced at Togami. The book in his hands was closed.

“I’ve loved martial arts from a young age, but when I was a little girl I thought of becoming a dancer.”

He blinked at her. Not-so-subtly looked her up and down. His manners remained as unpalatable as always. 

“Just thinking of something means nothing . It only matters if you actually do it.”

“It isn’t harmful either, though. If nothing comes of it. ”
