Surprise!

Summary:

Nami throws Luffy a surprise birthday party—although, it is incredibly hard for them to stop cuddling with each other at first.

And maybe, just maybe, Nami is going to surprise him in more ways than just one.

Notes:

I know it’s already been a couple of weeks since Luffy’s birthday; however, I really wanted to write a Luffy birthday fanfic for his birthday, nonetheless.

I hope y’all will enjoy reading this!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Today. Today was the day—today was Luffy’s birthday.

Today was Nami’s fiancé’s birthday.

As Nami opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was him.

The first thing she saw was Luffy, her fiancé, which is exactly what happened every day.

No matter how much time passed, and no matter how much time Luffy and Nami had been living with one another for, Luffy being the first thing Nami saw every morning would always make her happy.

She could never grow tired of spending time with Luffy or seeing him first thing in the morning.

They had been living together in a cozy and lively apartment for years now, and had been sharing a bed with and sleeping next to one another every day throughout the majority of the time they had lived in this apartment for so far.

It had initially taken them pretty long to finally get together. They had been friends—best friends—with one another since they had first met one another all the way back in high school.

Back when they had first met one another, both of their friend groups had eventually gotten together to form one, the same one they were still a part of to this day.

When the two friend groups had joined together to form one, their friends had secretly, and without telling Luffy and Nami, met up with one another once to talk about certain suspicions they had been having—it had felt as though the two of them had fallen in love with one another at first sight when they had first met each other to all of their friends, and their friends had decided to hold a meeting to talk about what they had thought had been going on between Luffy and Nami.

Their friends really had thought that it wouldn’t take long for Luffy and Nami to finally start dating one another—however, they were wrong.

It had taken until Luffy and Nami had already been living in the apartment they currently lived in for a couple of months for them to finally start dating one another—even though they had already been acting like a married couple since they had first seen each other.

Nami never looked forward to anything more than seeing Luffy first thing in the morning when waking up right next to him every day, so seeing him still sleeping while the two of them were cuddling with each other in their bed made her incredibly happy—no matter how many times they cuddled together or how many times Nami woke up and saw Luffy lying right next to her in the morning, the sight of her fiancé having his arms wrapped around her as he continued sleeping peacefully would always make her heart beat faster and give her butterflies.

She always loved how the sun shone lightly onto his face, making it look as if it was glowing every morning.

At times, it felt as though Luffy was the sun, or that the sun would always follow him around wherever he went.

At times, it also felt as though Luffy was her own personal sun. His smile shone brighter than any star in the universe ever could.

Nami also thought that if the sun was a person, it would have the same personality as Luffy does—a radiant and energetic personality, one that always felt incredibly contagious.

Nami couldn’t help but also start smiling or laughing whenever she saw Luffy smile or heard him laugh.

She knew that whenever he was around, she would always be safe, safer than she could ever be.

She knew that whenever he was around, she was bound to have a good time and to smile a lot—that’s the effect Luffy had on her, the effect he had had on her since the two of them had first met.

Nami had always loved looking at the sun—but what she had always loved more was to look at Luffy, to look at her fiancé, to look at her future husband.

Whenever she looked at him, she couldn’t help but smile. She couldn’t help but feel at peace and feel as comfortable as she could theoretically feel whenever Luffy was around.

As she continued looking and gazing at her fiancé, she didn’t even initially notice that Luffy was also starting to wake up.

Seeing him sleep peacefully beside her had hypnotized her—it had put her in some sort of trance.

On the one hand, she felt so incredibly comfortable right now, which was the reason as to why she never wanted to leave the trance she had just been put in. On the other hand, she wanted to continue spending time with Luffy, and to go on dates and adventures with him for the rest of time, which is why she wanted to leave the trance as quickly as possible.

As Nami continued being hypnotized by just how peaceful and cute Luffy looked right now, Luffy slowly started opening his eyes.

And his heart skipped a beat immediately after he had woken up.

Seeing Nami gaze at him the way she was right now, seeing her gaze at him with as much love as there was in her eyes right now almost made his heart completely stop beating—but instead, it caused his heart to skip a beat.

And two. And three.

He couldn’t help but slowly move one of his hands towards her face, until he put it onto one of her cheeks and started moving some of his fingers gently and softly across her face.

When his hand started touching her face, Nami finally snapped out of the trance Luffy had subconsciously and indirectly put her in.

He was touching and caressing her face so softly and lovingly that Nami’s heart also almost stopped beating completely.

When the two of them finally started looking at one another, they couldn’t help but start giggling.

They were giggling at just how cute they were being and at just how much in love they were with one another.

“Good morning, my fiancée!”
“Good morning, my fiancé.” both of them said quietly and delicately at the same time, causing both of them to now start laughing because of how hilarious they thought it was that they said good morning to one another at the same time.

In this moment, Nami realized just how much in love she was with Luffy yet again, despite her having known that she was head over heels in love with him for quite some time now.

In this moment, Luffy realized just how much he had been looking forward to his and Nami’s wedding again. He realized, yet again, that he was going to love Nami forever, and that he was going to make sure that he would always be there for her for the rest of time.

Nami also realized that she still had to successfully complete a challenge today—the challenge of trying to get Luffy to leave their apartment for a couple of hours, so that she could set up his birthday party, and so that all of the people Nami had invited could enter the apartment while Luffy wasn’t around.

Nami knew. She knew that getting her fiancé to leave their apartment today was going to be extremely difficult—so difficult that getting him to leave could be an almost impossible challenge.

She knew that Luffy’s favorite hobby was for him to spend time with Nami, but, especially on his birthday, he never wanted to do anything besides spending time with Nami and hanging out with her throughout the entirety of his birthday.

He also, of course, loved eating birthday cakes and food on his birthday as well, and he also loved spending time with their friends on his birthday, but he could never enjoy anything more than spending time with Nami, especially on his birthday.

Everything just felt so right at the moment—everything felt utterly perfect.

As the sun continued shining into Luffy’s and Nami’s bedroom through its windows, and as it continued illuminating their bedroom, making it appear as if it was glowing, and casting a glowing, golden hue over the both of them, everything just continued feeling perfect—everything felt so meant to be. It always had, ever since the two of them had met one another.

Not a day, not an hour, not a minute, not a second ever went by when things didn’t feel perfect.

Whenever Luffy and Nami were together, it felt as though the universe, fate, and destiny focused solely on them—it was as if they watched them more closely than anything or anyone else. It was as if everything always tried to make sure that Luffy and Nami were together.

And as the sun continued making it appear as though Luffy was glowing, painting him in its soft and cozy sunlight, Nami couldn’t help but move her lips towards her fiancé’s, until the two pairs of lips started touching one another.

Sparks. Sparks moved through both Luffy’s and Nami’s bodies, as shivers went down their spine.

Nami slowly moved her head towards Luffy’s cheek while moving her other hand towards his hair—until she started stroking his cheek lovingly and moving her fingers through his hair softly.

As the two of them kissed one another for several minutes—this kiss was the first birthday gift Nami wanted to give Luffy today—everything still felt utterly perfect.

After they stopped kissing, and while the two of them stared at one another with nothing but love in their eyes, Nami wished Luffy a Happy Birthday.

“Happy Birthday, Luffy. I can’t wait to experience the rest of your birthdays with you.” She spoke lovingly, softly, and quietly, the words moving off her tongue in one swift motion.

The smile, and the look on her face and in her eyes said more than what she just did—she was completely in love with Luffy. And Luffy was just as in love with her as she was with him.

“Thanks, Nami! I’m excited about our future a whole lot as well! Shishishi!” Luffy giggled cutely, causing Nami’s heart to skip yet another beat.

Now, just like every morning, Luffy and Nami had to eventually get up from their bed and stop cuddling—which was always extremely difficult, and it was even more difficult now considering that it was Luffy’s birthday.

No matter how hard they tried to get up, they just couldn’t. Being in one another’s arms as the sun shone onto them and cast a golden hue onto them felt too perfect; so perfect, in fact, that it made it even harder for them to get up.

However, Nami knew that Luffy’s surprise birthday party still had to be set up, and that all of its guests would eventually show up.

So, although it was excruciatingly hard, Nami utlimately managed to convince Luffy that they finally needed to start their day.

Nami had been planning everything for months now—she wanted Luffy’s birthday to be perfect, and she wanted him to not know that she had planned to throw a surprise party for him up until everyone surprised him.

She had been telling Usopp, Zoro, and Chopper that she wanted them to distract him for a couple of hours while she and everybody else would set everything up for months now.

After having gotten out of bed, the two of them eventually found their way into the bathroom—Luffy was really hungry and wanted to eat first, but Nami knew that Usopp, Zoro, and Chopper were going to eat with him, so she had to try to convince him to not eat anything until he met up with the three.

After a quick shower together, and after brushing their teeth while standing right besides one another, close enough for their shoulders to be touching, and after they kept exchanging glances at each other by looking at one another in the mirror they brushed their teeth in front of, Nami knew it was time to try to get Luffy to leave their apartment, so that she could finally start preparing everything.

Sanji and Pudding, who were also dating one another, had agreed to bake and cook food for the birthday party.

Franky and his girlfriend, Robin, Ace and his girlfriend, Isuka, and Sabo and his girlfriend, Koala, had agreed to help her set everything up.

Although it was hard to get Luffy to leave, Nami eventually managed to get Luffy to leave their apartment—which made her sad. She really wanted to be by his side throughout the entirety of the day, but she knew that throwing a surprise party for him would put the biggest smile on his face.

One thing Nami didn’t know, however, was that Luffy thought something was up—usually, Nami always wanted to spend time with him, especially on his birthday.

However, Luffy could hear the urgency in her voice when she had asked him to leave, so he decided to listen to her.

After gazing at each other lovingly again for a couple of minutes and kissing each other a lot—a whole lot; on their lips, their cheeks, their foreheads, everywhere—Luffy agreed to leave and meet up with three of his friends.

However, no matter how far away from one another they were, they always felt connected to each other.

Their hearts always beat in sync. Their breathing was always in sync, as well.

They truly were soulmates, and they had known they were each other’s soulmates since they had first seen and looked at one another.

No matter what, they were always there for one another.

And, perhaps, they would always be there for a new family member soon, as well.

A couple of minutes after having left his and Nami’s apartment, Luffy met up with Usopp, Zoro, and Chopper, who all immediately wished him a happy birthday—and even offered to pay for all of the food he was about to eat at the cafe they were going to go to.

Which was a mistake.

The second Luffy heard that all of the food he was going to eat was going to be paid for by his friends, he just grew even hungrier than he already had been all this time.

Upon seeing the huge, sly smile on Luffy’s face, the three friends’ eyes grew wide in shock—what had they done?

After gulping and accepting that they were going to spend a fortune on the food they were about to eat, Luffy and his three friends started walking towards the cafe they were about to eat at.

In the meantime, Sanji and Pudding, Franky and Robin, Ace and Isuka, and Sabo and Koala made their way to Luffy and Nami’s apartment, and entered it.

Immediately after entering, Nami started giving them instructions on what to do—and Franky started crying tears of joy.

Seeing Nami do all of this for Luffy, and realizing, yet again, just how in love Luffy and Nami were with one another made him have to cry—tears of joy. A lot of them.

Ace and Sabo couldn’t be happier for their little brother either. They had been so incredibly happy for him ever since he had first talked about Nami to them—of course they had to tease him about having a crush on a girl when Luffy had first mentioned Nami as well, but they really had always been happy for him.

And, of course, they hadn’t stopped teasing him after they had teased him about his crush on Nami for the first time.

After Luffy had first mentioned Nami, it had seemed as though he couldn’t stop talking about her—which had resulted in Ace and Sabo teasing him over and over again.

Now, as Nami and everyone else were preparing everything and setting everything up, and as Luffy and three of his friends ate at a cafe, both Luffy and Nami couldn’t help but think about one another—they couldn’t help but want to be by each other’s side.

Thinking about one another and not being able to fully focus on what they were actually doing was distracting them a lot—causing Nami to not be able to help everyone else as much as she would have liked to.

Robin, Koala, and Isuka realized that Nami must be thinking about Luffy, so they decided to help her out by telling her that she was going to see him again soon—which helped, but only a little bit.

The three of them decided to help Nami out with the tasks she had given herself.

As time continued passing, Luffy continued hanging out and spending time with Zoro, Usopp, and Chopper.

Although he usually loved spending time and doing things together with them, and although he had hung out with them on his birthday every year since he had first met them, Luffy just couldn’t help but miss Nami, his fiancée.

Luffy had loved calling Nami his fiancée ever since he had proposed to her.

Luffy was known to never get nervous—however, he had been a nervous wreck on the day he had proposed to Nami.

Prior to the day of the proposal, Luffy had never known that his hands could sweat as much as they had when he had proposed to her.

Luffy had decided to propose to her on the first day of this year—on New Year’s.

He had figured that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, and that he wanted to be by her side, love, and cherish her until the end of time.

He had always been certain that the two of them would meet one another and fall for each other again in their next lives—and that that would happen over and over again, in every single one of their lifetimes, until the end of time.

He had figured that proposing to her on the first day of a new year would make him extremely happy—he knew that he could finally start calling Nami his fiancée once he proposed to her, and he knew that he would finally be able to call her his wife once they got married to each other.

Their wedding. Something that had been on Luffy’s mind at all times ever since he had first thought of proposing to her.

Not a second went by when he didn’t think of finally being able to call Nami his wife once they finally married one another.

Prior to him proposing to her, and as the day he had planned to propose to her had drawn closer and closer, he had also tried his hardest to make sure that Nami was not going to find out that he was going to propose to her, and that he would surprise her by proposing to her once he did.

However, doing that had been extremely difficult for Luffy.

Luffy wasn’t necessarily known for being a great liar—not at all.

Luffy already didn’t lie a lot as is, mostly because he disliked it when people lied; however, whenever he did lie, he made it incredibly obvious that he did—every time he lied, it was written all over his face.

So, trying not to be too nervous whilst simultaneously trying to act like he wasn’t going to propose to her had been almost impossible for him—almost. He had ended up pulling it off, though.

Another thing that Luffy was bad at was not telling people about surprises—almost every time someone let him know about how they were going to surprise someone, he’d end up telling others about it.

When Luffy had proposed to her, Nami had initially started crying—which had completely shocked and surprised Luffy.

Had he done something he wasn’t supposed to do? Had she not wanted him to propose to her?

His heart had initially dropped down all the way into his stomach.

Nami had been quick to clear up the misunderstanding and had told him that the reason why she was crying was that she had been incredibly happy—she had even told him that he had done an amazing job at making sure that the proposal was going to be a huge surprise since she really hadn’t expected him to propose to her.

Then, something else had happened—Nami’s smile.

Luffy was never going to be able to get the image of how brightly Nami had smiled after he had proposed to her out of his head—and he never wanted to forget about that image, either.

That big, gigantic smile which had shone brighter than the sun ever could had caused his heart to temporarily stop beating when he had seen it on her face.

Thinking about all of this, thinking about his and his fiancée’s proposal right now was making him miss her even more.

One thing Luffy didn’t know about, however, was that Zoro, Usopp, and Chopper were going to accompany him to his apartment very soon—the preparations were almost complete.

It was almost time to surprise Luffy, it was almost time for his surprise birthday party to start.

As time continued passing, and as Luffy continued not spending time with Nami, Luffy kept growing more and more restless.

He was about to tell his three friends, who he had been hanging out with, that he really wanted to see his fiancée again when they told him that they wanted to go back to his apartment—Luffy obviously immediately agreed to going back to his apartment with them. He had been missing Nami so much that he hadn’t even realized that Usopp had repeatedly been messaging and talking to someone on his phone.

Sanji and Pudding had baked and made all of the food they had planned on making.

Koala and Isuka had helped out Nami a lot, while Franky and Robin, Ace, and Sabo had set everything else up.

Now, it was time for them to wait for Luffy to show up.

Nami had sent Usopp a message, telling him that everything was set up, and that the four of them could go to her and Luffy’s apartment now.

Her heart—it was hammering in her chest. So fast that it felt as though it was about to jump out of her body, run towards Luffy, and tell him about the surprise party before he arrived at their apartment any second now.

With every second that went by, Nami started becoming more and more nervous—and happy. She was finally about to see her future husband again, which was something that would always make her happy.

With every second that went by, and with every step Luffy took towards his and his future wife’s apartment, he started becoming more and more happy—and eager. He was eagerly looking forward to spending time with his fiancée again.

And finally, someone started opening the door to their apartment—he was here, finally.

As soon as the door was fully opened and everyone was able to see Luffy, everyone shouted, “Happy Birthday!” at the top of their lungs.

Everyone was smiling, everyone was laughing, everyone was happy.

Upon being surprised by every one of his friends and family members showing up to surprise him, Luffy’s eyes started being the size of saucers, and his mouth almost dropped down all the way to the floor.

After realizing that Nami had organized a surprise birthday party for him, and after getting over his initial shock and state of surprise, Luffy started smiling brightly and laughing loudly.

That smile of his. The smile that currently was present on his face—seeing it made Nami’s heart skip a beat. She had already known that Luffy was going to smile brightly once he saw that Nami had organized a surprise birthday party for him; however, seeing it right now made her incredibly happy, nonetheless.

She was also extremely ecstatic about how she had managed to organize and set everything up without Luffy realizing that all of his friends were going to surprise him on his birhtday.

Luffy immediately seeking her out amongst the crowd that stood in front of him, and his smile becoming even bigger and wider than it already had been when he finally spotted her made her heart skip even more beats.

“Thanks, everyone! Shishishi!” Luffy giggled and voiced out gratefully.

Saying that Luffy was incredibly happy and grateful that all of his friends had shown up to surprise him would be a gigantic understatement—he felt ecstatic.

After thanking everyone, he couldn’t help but go up to Nami—he had to thank her for throwing a surprise birthday party for him, and for organizing all of this for him immediately.

As he walked up towards her while not focusing on anything or anyone else, and while keeping eye contact with her the entire time, her heart kept beating faster and faster with every step he took.

When he finally stood in front of her, his smile grew even wider—it started shining even brighter than it already had.

However, Luffy didn’t give Nami a lot of time to be able to look at his smile since he, almost instantaneously, leaned towards her and caught her lips with his own in possibly the sweetest kiss the two of them had ever shared with one another.

“Thanks, Nami! For everything” He softly, yet happily and extremely gratefully told her after the kiss they shared.

She couldn’t help but smile at him, more lovingly than ever before.

Now. Now was the time.

She had been keeping her arms behind her back this entire time, but now was the time to give him the second gift she had planned on giving him today on his birthday.

When she moved her arms in front of her body and started holding something in front of Luffy’s face, his face lit up—Nami swore it was now shining brighter than any star in the entire universe ever could.

Luffy immediately picked her up and started laughing wildly and more happily than ever before, while all of their guests around them started congratulating them.

“Nami, we’re gonna be parents!” Luffy shouted at the top of his lungs, sounding happier than ever before.

He had always known that she was his soulmate. He had always loved her.

Nami’s second gift was showing him a positive pregnancy test.

The two of them were going to become parents. And they knew they were going to be the best parents ever.
