Chapter 1: Snowblind
Chapter Text
That town, where everyone used to run happily, sing together and hold open arms to strangers, was now a desert; barely anyone was stepping outside their homes, and scarcely any life was present in the town. The malls, houses, and even grocery stores were barricaded. Paranoia was the only sentiment lingering in the air of the area. News advised staying inside, as a mass-spreading illness was now taking hold. Barely anyone was getting a chance against this.
The morning was cold, the sound of the heavy blizzard hit against the windows of the safe place, sung harshly, yet somehow it still managed to go unnoticed by the sleeping folks.
Lego tossed and turned on his bed, his hands gripping the tangled sheets that protected him from the cold, while his body sweated onto the mattress. God knows what he could be dreaming about. The day before tormented him, like a scratched disc on a turntable replaying over and over. God, he'd give the world to just have a break from all the work, maybe a day on with his friends, being themselves without having to deal with an infection. He curled into a miserable ball as his scalp struck the headboard of the bed.. That's when he finally woke up.
He shot awake, sitting up instantly as his heavy eye lidded eyes darted everywhere; To his suit, to his hands, his soaked body, to the pictures that hung on the walls, some of which were of his friends, friends he missed - friends he hadn't seen in ages, especially FactualDev, he could only wish them the best through these harsh times. He could only wish. His eyes at last darted to the clock that hung over his bed, a haunting reminder of how little time he had on his hands, maybe also a warning itself to what waited for him after all this stress he was going through.
02:38.
The clock ticked each second, tormenting Lego while also grounding him. He looked down, his eyelids as heavy as leather, trying his best not to pass out from exhaustion. These things... These creatures were possibly just outside his place, making that exact noise over and over. He had seen them before, both from a distance and up close; that was how they communicated with one another. It was a disgusting sight to see, let alone be desensitised by. He never understood where these came from, what their purpose was. He only knew that they were a danger to him that he had to exterminate.
He slowly got up, silencing that voice that rang in his head and slowly exited the room.. God, it was freezing, he could barely contain his body from shaking. He embraced himself, tremblingly walking to the kitchen of the safe place. It wasn't necessarily the best kitchen, but it was all he had; the walls seeped with mould and the floor had a red tint to its tiled pattern. It reeked of death there. He barely had any food left, he'd soon have to come back to that hellish place, back to that maggot-infested place.
He couldn't bring himself to do this. Looking at the food he had, he only felt disgust; if there were words he could share with anyone, it'd be repulsion, regret, but for what? He could hardly tell what he felt at this point, especially after returning from that day.
If only he could remember what had happened that day.
The lights flickered. He swallowed the lump in his neck, taking a fresh apple out of the fruit bowl before he took a bite out of it, the sugary taste finally settled in his mouth not long after. He chewed on that piece for a while, he was lost in his own thoughts. It took him a while before he concluded.
"I'm losing it."
He wasn't exactly wrong.
It had been so long since he had last seen people, been so long since he last stepped out of his home, ever since those trespassers came to attack him, he hadn't been the same. He'd give the world to go back to the world he knew, to go back to the old house.
This is all he has now, he had to make something out of it.
Lego's head felt lighter, his eyes watering as he sensed his legs becoming weaker. His eyes tried to focus on the apple. Why couldn't he taste it in his mouth anymore? The flavour felt unfamiliar, abnormal. A sound of ringing flooded his ears, prompting him to clutch his head as his vision blurred. His knees buckled under his weight, crashing onto the ground. His mind was fuzzy, all his thoughts had gone blank.
With his eyes narrowly open, he darted around the room. It felt strange; it was as if he had never been there. Nothing in the room felt like home; the pictures on the wall appeared unfamiliar. One picture showed him as a little boy playing with his pet bunnies. He couldn't recall ever experiencing it; even his face in the image was just a blurry memory in his mind.
His breath went sharp, uneven. He could feel it all weighing on him like a boulder on his back. He could barely use his legs, yet he still tried to get up. His arms rested on the counter for support, his hands were shaking uncontrollably. His gaze shifted to the apple, it looked disgusting.. Like it was infested with bugs inside it. How come he hadn't noticed it..?
"..."
His emotions were crashing down on him, the feeling of sadness was starting to turn into rage, he felt like a caged animal. His breath was heavy, his hands went for the fruit bowl immediately, snatching it and throwing it at the wall, the pieces of it scattered all over the room. He stood there, like a witness to a crime, yet he wasn't satisfied.
He started taking down the pictures around him, the smiles and the once recognisable faces in them now being hidden by framed glass cracks and shattered pieces.
"I can't remember.. I can't remember any of it.."
He stared at one specific picture, it stared right back at him. The picture of him with his friends. The faces were a blur in his mind, Even his. Lego passed his thumb over his framed smile, tears slowly prickling from his eyes onto the glass of the picture.
"... Who am I?"

Chapter Text
I remember it like it was yesterday.
It was dark. Too dark.
This is not how I wanted it to end. It just cannot be like this.
Please..
...
Please...
There's a light. It's so cold here...
I can't feel my arms against my skin.
Something's humming. A soft whir. The air smells... sharp, like metal and chemicals. My body doesn't feel like mine—it's numb, like I'm floating outside of it.
No, this can't be it..
I can hear a heartbeat.. steady and mechanical.
Beep.. Beep.. Beep..
My eyes burn, the light above me blinding me.
I sat up on the bed, almost immediately falling back on it as soon as my eyes began to soothe. My eyes glanced at the IV Line in my arm, a feeling my body grew benumbed to. I wanted to leave my bed, despite the fact that I was restrained by the medical gear attached to me. I don't wanna be in this room any longer.
Why am I here?
I heard whistling outside my room, along with voices. I could swear I recognised these voices, yet I don't know from where. I put a hand on my hair, feeling it alongside the fabric of the bandage wrapped around my head. I try to listen to the voices..
"Will he be okay?"
"Time will tell."
"He won't stay here for too long, will he?.."
"We should check on him."
I couldn't even think for long before I heard footsteps approaching my room.
I need to leave this place immediately.
I struggled to get up, pulling on the IV, the telemetry electrodes, anything that kept me restrained. The pain of the IV tubes was excruciating, as was the shrill sound of the heart monitor. It was agonising, but I couldn't just stay here. They were coming, yet I didn't know who, didn't know why, didn't know what they planned to do to me. My brain could barely recall a single thing, yet my body was somehow prepared for this moment.
The door had slammed open right in front of me. I wasn't fast enough to react, I froze like a deer caught in headlights.
I heard a few gasps, among them a single voice that presumably came from a younger individual, or so I assumed.
"Lego!"
...
They were restraining me now. I was stuck under their grips; it hurt me so badly I could've cried at that moment. A horse and a zebra were holding me down while the pig just watched, too shocked even to help. I screamed, wailed, begged- I was suffocating slowly as I tried to get away from them.
Eventually, another animal, a mole, came. She had a syringe with her; I started to cry. This wasn't what I wanted; I wanted to leave this detestable place. It hurt so bad; it was insufferable.
As my body grew weaker, I could feel their hands letting go of me. The pig looked like he was on the verge of crying; I could almost recognise those tears. Almost.
The last thing I saw before it all went black was the pig coming towards me, his tears pricking out and rolling down his cheeks. He tried to reach out for me, but I blacked out as soon as he got any closer.
And it was dark, once more.
