Chapter 1: Prolouge

Chapter Text

~Prolouge~
Janus’s Pov.

God had a fun way of rubbing extra salt in the wound. I sigh deeply as rain continues to tap against my umbrella as the pastor babbles on. I notice everyone looking over me with concern and pity in their eyes. I let out another shaky breath before looking at Penelope as she babbles at all the noises and things around her. I almost Envy her obliviousness; she got it from her father. I feel a twinge of pain at the thought of him as I take a small glance at the coffin in front of us. The pastor finishes his sermon as Roman and Virgil approach the coffin placing roses on the lid of the coffin before I approach it myself placing the two roses I’ve been fiddling with in my other hand. Penelope looks at the coffin curiously before looking back at me. I step back a stray tear escaping my eyes as they lower the coffin into the ground. Penelope snuggles into me further as the crisp fall air ruffles the wet leaves. I kiss her temple wrapping her into more of my warmth.

People begin to leave after the Pastor takes his leave the funeral is finally over. I take one last glance at the grave and newly placed tombstone. ‘Here lies Remus D. Sanders Loving Brother, Husband, and Father’ I read the engraving before choking back a new sob as I feel a hand grab my shoulder. “We should probably get to the car It’s getting cold out here,” Roman says with a soft smile his eyes matching the gloomy weather. I nod stealing one last glance at the grave before walking away. Roman walks with me “So Virgil and I were thinking that maybe you and Penelope could live with us out in the city for a while at least.” Penelope perks up at her name making Roman pinch her cheek making her giggle before continuing. “I know how much you and Remus worked on that house but It is quite big for you and might be weird for you after what happened.” I take in his words before sighing “Perhaps your right, I think maybe some time away may do us some good.” Roman nods as we approach Virgil and the car.
