The League of Gays

Summary:

A chronicle of all the gay characters in league, both canon and non-canon, cause why not it's pride month.

Notes:

Living in the US sucks right now and I wanna do something good, I wanna focus on things I like and that make me happy. So, I decided to chronicle all the various characters in league who are canonically, or implied, to be part of the queer community.

This is just going to be my interpretation, so if you think a characters sexuality is different that's fine, I also wanna preface and say this is going down the LGBTQ+ Acronym, so characters will probably appear in that order. I will also include a brief history of who the champion is before I talk about how they were confirmed or what hints there are, just cause there are many characters.

I will also try and update once a day, which should be easy since I already have so much of this written out, but do not hold me to that.

Chapter 1: Neeko

Chapter Text

Starting this fic off we have Neeko!

Neeko was released in 2018 on December 5, and is a fictional species called the Vaystaya, which is a group of people who are descended from humans and a group called the Vastayashai’rei. The Vastayasshai’rei are a group of humans who took the powers of the spirit realm into themselves and can be based on a variety of different animals and usually either resemble your generic anime cat girl or a fury, though there are some differences. In Neeko’s case, her animal is a chameleon and is able to shapeshift into others, however others like her are not common. Neeko lost her tribe, the Oovi-Kat, years ago in a calamity that destroyed her home and believes herself to be the last member of her tribe and now hopes to rebuild it.

Many moments of Neeko expressing her attraction to the same sex appear in her voice line where she flirts with many of the female champions, one of her voice lines to Shyvanna, a dragon lady, has Neeko ask if “dragon lady wants to get lunch sometime, maybe?” (Skin spotlight: Neeko special interactions,2:40). Other notes include her romantic feelings for another character in the game, Nidalee. Nidalee and Neeko meet after Neeko left her home land and moved to Ixthal, the two meet up and were very close to one another before Neeko left to rebuild her tribe. The two parted on good terms, and when the two interact in the game Neeko talks about how she has so many good memories with her (Skin Spotlight: Neeko Special Interactions, 2:20).Legends of Runeterra, a mobile card game spin off of League of Legends, would have the two reunite when Nidalee saves Neeko from Piltoven poachers and it is revealed that Nidalee also missed Neeko as well. Lastly, she was confirmed by her writer, Matt Dunn to be the first known lesbian character.

Chapter 2: Vi and Caitlyn

Chapter Text

Next up on our list of Lesbians is Vi and Caitlyn,

Now, while these characters are wildly known for their depiction in the hit Netflix tv show Arcane (2021) their league counterparts, as well as cananlity of their relationship, is actually very different.

In the game, Vi ( released December 19, 2012) was an amnesiac who grew up in an orphanage, she had no memory of her past or her name, instead going by the tattoo that was on her cheek. One night she gets into a brawl with a rival gang while trying to rob a chem barron mine and ends up beating the snot out of all of them. From there her reputation grows and through means that we are not aware, she meets caitlyn. Caitlyn, (released January 4, 2011), had no desire to be a detective and only did so to find out what happened to her parents but grew into the role of officer quite well. She also, at one point ends up meeting up with Vi and the two start working together to help fight against the criminal underground in Zaun and Piltover. The two have voice lines with one another in both the main game and in the spin of, Legends of Runeterra, where Vi refers to Caitlyn as cupcake, and if the player kills Jinx as Caitlyn, the Caitlyn wonder about how Vi will cope (Skin Spotlight: Caitlyn Special Interaction, 1:30). The same goes for if Caitlyn kills Vi, with her saying “I never wanted this Vi” (Skin Spotlight: Caitlyn Special Interaction, 2:12). Furthermore, for Vi

Now, the main thing of notice is that so far, the two feelings for one another are implied. The two have voice lines mentioning how they care for the other and would have matching skins in the Valentine skinline titled “Heartache and Heartthrob” with matching recall animations, but there was nothing explicitly stating that the two are anything more than co-workers. It was all things that Riot could brush under the rug and deny.

Until Arcane came out. After that, the two would be featured in the official 2023 pride art as well as the official pride art, and community pride art in the following years. So not only could caitlyn and vi fans rejoice over the two finally being included in the official pride art, but they also got to watch the two slowly fall in love, share kisses, have a messy break up, and get back together again over the course of Arcane’s 18 episode run.

Chapter 3: Leona and Diana

Chapter Text

Leona was released in 2011 on July 13 and is a warrior of the Solari who hails from Targon. The Solari, are a tribe of people who worship the sun with Leona having been noted as having been a very devoted follower in the short story Rise With Me, and would meet her friend Diana during childhood. The two would become very close to one another only to drift apart when Diana left the tribe after becoming the Aspect of the Moon, which made her essentially an avatar for the Lunari’s god and Leona became the Aspect of the Sun. The Lunari, for reference, are a group of people who worship the moon and are being hunted down by the Solari due to the fact that the Solari views them as heretics and wishes to stop their religion from spreading. This, obviously, put a dent on their relationship since they were now on two different sides of a war, but did not kill the feelings they have for one another.

The two would have various lines referencing how the felt about the other, with

The two's relationship also appears in different skin lines, or alternate universes for the game. In the Coven Skinline, when Leona encounters Diana she says “Fair Diana, cast away thy blade. Do not wish to end thee so” (Skin Spotlights, Eclipse Leona Special Interactions, 0:29). Not only that but she kills Diana, she says “In another life, I….I am sorry Diana” (Skin Spotlights, Eclipse Leona Special Interactions, 2:03). It’s also noted that in this skinline, Diana actually compliments another woman, Ellise, on her beauty before and after she fights her,, like she does everyone else, except Diana (Skin Spotlight, Eclipse Leona). Diana is the only character she has interactions with who is on the enemy side that Leona did not want to fight and even mourns killing. Which hints that Leona’s feelings for Diana carried over to this Universe as well as Highnoon. In the Highnoon universe, Leona mentions, “Diana. Do my eyes deceive me” as well as “ My Diana’s tougher than that“ when she meets and kills Diana respectively. (SkinSpotlights, High Noon Leona, 0:11 and 1:26). Lastly, in the Winterblessed Skinline, Leona says, “I know your face, but not your name” (Skin Spotlights, Winter Blessed Diana, special interactions). This voice line is particularly notable since it is the only voice line she has outside of the other Winterblessed skins, and implies that the two are meant for one another in different lifetimes. Which is a valid claim to make given how the two are shown to be close in the other universes.

Other characters also take note of their relationship with Sentinel Graves asking “Hey Moon Lady, is there a Sun Lady? Are y’all friends? Oh, I see” (Skin Spotlight: Sentinel Graves, 0:17). This is important because the Sentinel Graves skin was for the games Ruined King event where Graves and Diana were both Sentinels who canonically fought against the Ruined Kings army together, meaning this interaction is canon. Another character who acknowledges their feelings for one another is Lillia, a deer who has the ability to see the dreams of others. When interacting with Diana and Leona in the game Legends of Runeterra, Illiah notes that the two still dream of the other. “..In your dreams, all I see is sunlight,... your sky dream painted silver and gold” (Skin Spotlights, Vex, Lillia, and Lux Special Interactions, 7:37-7:45) is what Diana dreams of, and Leona’s dreams include the face of the moon, and is called “beloved of the moon” (Skins Spotlights, Vex, Lillia, and Lux Special Interactions, 7:46-7:51).

Now, while all of this is impressive, the two were in a similar situation to other notable queer characters in the game where their feelings for one another was still implied or denied by Riot Games. There were things across different skin lines saying the two had feelings for another, plus some hints in canon, but nothing was explicitly stated until the short story Rise With Me, was released in June in 2021 on the League of Legends website. This short story was in the form of diary entries that Leona made and chronicled her budding friendship and crush on Diana. It not only explains how the two meet, but also shows Diana asking Leona out to a festival and Leona getting upset for not realizing it later after turning Diana down. Furthermore, the two of them would also be included in various pride art holding hands ((2021, 2022, 2025 pride art) or having the lesbian pride flag visible on their person (2023, Community Pride Art), and having a pride emote in 2021 where the two made a heart with their hands. Meaning, the two were now finally out of the closet they had been locked in for ten years and finally able to officially come out.

Chapter 4: Lesbians of Runeterra

Chapter Text

This chapter will be formatted a bit different. Unlike the other chapters that focused on two characters max, this chapter will include up to six characters. This is because these characters were introduced in Legends of Runeterra, and thus do not have as much lore as the majority of league of legends champions (Shaco notwithstanding). This is because unlike the main game which includes in-game events, short stories, bios, and interactions to flesh out who a champion is and what their lore is. Legends of Runeterra is simply a card game. Meaning all we usually get is some flavor text, and their interactions with others, plus many of them can be explained together due to the fact that most of them are couples. So, without further ado, let's get into it.

Our first pairing on this list is Ada and Dess. Ada and Dess appeared in the Sentinels of Light light novel for the Ruined King event, and are Sentinels like Senna and Lucian who operate on the Shadow Isles. These also made an appearance in the 2023 Community Pride art done by Mango (https://www.riotgames.com/en/news/celebrating-pride-community-artists).

Our second pairing is Lani and Miel from Legends of Runeterra. The two are weapons smith who hail from Noxus but made their first appearance in Ionia for the Glory in Navoi event. Lani is described as being a menace while Miel seems to be the more level headed one, the two also made Samira’s weapons and are hinted at to be in a relationship via their voice lines. The voice lines in question have her being called love by Lani as well as her calling out for Lani when she dies (https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Adroit_Artificer_(Legends_of_Runeterra).

Our last lesbian on the list for this chapter is Jana or the Vengeful Widow, from Legends of Runeterra. She appeared with Vane’s launch in Legends of Runeterra from what I can tell and her entire motivation is that she is trying to kill a harpy to avenge her wife Laureen, (https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Widowed_Huntress_(Legends_of_Runeterra).

Chapter 5: Irelia

Chapter Text

Now, before we go further I would like to say that every character that appears afterwards will be non-canon until we start the next category. Meaning, none of these characters are explicitly stated to be a lesbian but there is some evidence to suggest that they are.

So, with that disclaimer out of the way, let's do a brief backstory for Xan Irellia.

Irellia, released in 2010 on November 16, and is an Ionia soldier and silk dancer. She learned how to silk dance from her grandmother and went off to Navori to learn more about the art only to return after whispers of the Noxian invasion spread across the country. When she returned home she found that not only had her entire family been killed but also that the silk dances her grandmother taught her could be used with swords. Irella joined the rebellion not long after that and even struck a crucial blow at the Great Stand at Navori when she cut off the arm of General Jericho Swain at age 14. After the war ended, Iona found itself once again divided by in-fighting as various factions fought for control, so now Irellia leads her people once again.

Now while I originally had Irelia on her due to her interactions with Lyanna, the blooming blade card from legends of runterra, I am realizing it might be simply platonic. For instance, when Lyanna says, “Our enemies approach. M-my hands are shaking…” and in response, Irelia responds with, “Then hold on to mine. We’ll face them together” (SkinSpotlights: Irelia Legends or Runetera, 2:57). In another interaction, Lyanna asks, “What terrors must we face out here?” Reassuringly and affectionately, Irelia responds, “Whatever they are, we will face them together, little blossom (SkinSpotlights: Irelia Legends or Runetera, 3:14). Now, again, there might be something gay here, or there could be simple friendship and comradery between two people on the battlefield.

On the other hand however, in the current spirit blossom season two event we have an Irelia skin that does have some sapphic vibes. In this skin line, Irelia is being used to depict a bodyguard who desired to see her Queen only for said Queen to tragically die in her arms after Irelia failed to save her (https://bsky.app/profile/spideraxe.bsky.social/post/3lmuw6xlnpc2s). Now, while there is currently no English translation of the voice lines available due to the voice actors strike (yes that is still going on at the time of writing this), a fan did translate the voice lines from espanol and posted it on ao3. Unfortunately, this translation has since been deleted, and so now I could not go back and reference my work. So you will simply have to trust me when I tell you that the word affection was used often when Irelia was talking to her Queen, and not the kind that is common between friends. If I am correct, the word lover or words said to a lover might have also been thrown out there.

The only problem with this piece of evidence, is the fact that Irelai is being used to represent someone from an Ionian folk tale. She is no more the spirit in question that someone is when they dress up as a witch for a school play. It is however, something I wanted to point out, especially since Spirit Blossom was also used to hint at two other characters being in a relationship together, but more on those two later.

Chapter 6: Scratch

Notes:

Chapter note: sorry for no update yesterday, was trying to find fan english translations of spirit blossom Irellia’s voice lines but the source was deleted and so it threw me off one. Plus I was already tired cause my sleep schedule is the worst. But oh well, we are now going back to our regularly scheduled programs.

Chapter Text

This lesbian is also a legends of runeterra exclusive and her name is Scratch, aka, the Zuanite Diva. Scratch is a guitarist and ruler of the underground music scene in Zaun and has an amp in her leg that hooks up to her guitar. She also doesn’t like Seraphine when the two first meet and actively tells her Bouncers not to let anyone with pink hair or a fan of Seraphine (or Sera-fan) into the concert. However as the night goes on and the two perform, we see in Seraphine’s level two splash art that Scratch seems amazed by Seraphine, and their later voice lines also hint at this as well (Pantheon’s Bakery: Seraphine-Interactions in LOR, 0:00).

In addition to this, we also get some interactions between Seraphine's father, the Acustitian, and Scratch that read like a father meeting his daughter's crush. “ Ah, so you’re the girl my daughter keeps talking about”-Accustition, “"Wha—shut up! No I'm not!"” -Scratch (https://wiki.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/LoR:The_Zaun_Diva).

Chapter 7: Renata Glasc

Notes:

Sorry for lack of updates, I got really busy with class work and then my hyper fixation on this dropped for a bit. But now it's back so yay.

Chapter Text

Renata Glasc came out in 2022 on February 7th and is a chembarron who wants to tear Piltover from the inside out due to them killing her parents who provided affordable and effective healthcare to those of the undercity. She owns a cosmetic company that, when the time is right, will allow her to take control over all of Piltover via mind control. She is an antagonist to Ekko and Zeri’s factions in the game and has ties to the show Arcane.

Renata Glasc character was originally supposed to be Silco only for him to be cut because the developers found that they would have to change him too much to fit with the other champions (https://www.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/news/dev/champion-insights-renata-glasc/) . Renata Glasc also has similarities with the character Sevika, both of them being very masculine women of color who are missing arms (the same arm btw). Not only that but both of them also have connections to not only Silco but the chem barons themselves. Bringing this up because those two characters are also arguably queer.

Furthermore her development insight but the image originally said “Stern, sinister, sophisticated serpentine, sardonic, sapphic, sublime, surreptitious” but was replaced with “gaslight, gatekeeper girl boss”. The original image can be found on the renata glasc main subreddit (r/renataglascmains, post by MintyCatUwU).

Meaning both in her inspiration and in her final concept, there was a queer angle to her design.

Chapter 8: Valmar and Kai (+Varus) and The Legion Veteran

Chapter Text

Now that we have finally finished the lesbian portion of this archive, we can now officially move onto the next group: gays.

Starting us off we have two, sort of controversial characters, Valmar and Kai.

Kai and Valmar are not actually characters in the game per say. Valmar and Kai are two hunters who are from Ionia and were meeting Valmar’s family only to be caught up in an attack by Noxus and Kai was fatally wounded. Valmar then took him to a nearby temple where he hoped he could get help for his lover only to stumble upon a darkin weapon the Varus was sealed in. The two would then be fused into one body that holds three different minds: Kai, Valmar, and Varus the arrow of retribution. Aka, the only character you get to play as since the two were added to Varus' character as part of a massive rework.

For context, Varus was in the original lore a vengeful archer who joined in a fighting tournament, the league of legends, because he was good at killing things. When he was rereleased on November 30, 2017, he was rewritten to be a darkin. Darkin, for the uninformed, were originally Shuriman warriors blessed with powers and were essentially immortal gods, who fought to protect the empire but eventually turned evil and took on the moniker of Darkin. After which there was a war between the factions, the Darkin war, where the Darkin terrorized the people of Runeterra until they were sealed into their own weapons with the help of the current aspect of Twilight. As you can tell, this lore is very different from the original one and fans were not happy with this change, nor were they happy that the league had essentially tacked on their first queer characters onto this mess of a rework. Especially since the characters are, again, not only unplayable but make no appearance in game and are not mentioned in a majority of Varus skin lines.

Legends of Runeterra did progress the characters by having Valmar and Kai help Varus regain his humanity but the fact still stands that these two do not have much dept to them.

Our second gay character is The Legion Veteran from Legends of Runterra. He is described as having in his card bio (https://wiki.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/LoR:Legion_Veteran). We do not know much else about him other than he has interactions with Swain and might be one of the people spreading word about the Trifarix, or the three people who now run the government in Noxus after the previous ruler was dethroned, Dariux, Swain and the Faceless one.

Chapter 9: K'Sante

Chapter Text

Released November 3, 2022 K’Sante was the first explicitly gay champion on the rift. While there are other champions who are queer and came before him, the two were censored upon release and not confirmed until later on.

K’sante is a skilled monster hunter from the region of Shurima and fell in love with his childhood friend Tope who is an archer. The two would part ways as K’sante’s ego lead him to ignoring tope’s advice on how to fight a Cobra Lion that the two had been fighting for years. Tope would end up leaving K’sante due to this and the two would be split up for a while. K’sante would realize the error of his ways and seek out Tope only to learn that he had returned home, but did leave one final clue on who to kill the beast. K’sante would end up killing the beast and gain two magical Ntofos that regenerate when damaged. K’sante and Tope would reunite in the story “Things Left Unsaid” and would rekindle their friendship. We would also learn that Tope also has a fiance and that K’sante is happy for him.

A fun fact about this character is that he was released in collaboration with singer Little Nas X, who did the music for the 2022 worlds champions and would get a prestige skin the same year he released.

Chapter 10: Malcom Graves

Chapter Text

Malcom Graves grew up in Bilgewater, a place that’s aesthetically old west meets pirates, and would travel the world and commit crimes during his youth. During his travels he would meet Twisted Fate and the two became an unstoppable team until a job went wrong and Graves was captured and sent to prison while Twisted Fate ran away. He was tortured and put in solitary for ten years until breaking out and looking for fate to get his revenge. However, they two would make amends in the Burning Tides event and would work together as partners again (https://wiki.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/Universe:Graves#Background).

Graves was released in 2011 on October 19, making him one of the oldest champions so far, and was originally planned to be Twisted Fates ex-husband or ex-lover but the idea was scrapped. However, the sexual tension would remain and the two would be hinted at to be in a relationship until 2022 where the two would confirm to have feelings for one another in the story “The Boys and Bomboloni”. The Graves would also be featured in various pride emotes for that year, one of which being a reference to the infamous gay cowboy film Brokeback Mountain, and would be continuously featured in official pride out since 2022.

Chapter 11: Gideon and Benjiro

Chapter Text

The next two characters come from the game produced by Riot Forge called Mageseekers. Riot forge is a now closed game studio that would license the league of legends IP to different indie games and let them use riots characters, and budget, to produce games about various characters such as Ekko, Nunu and Willump, and Sylas (https://www.riotforgegames.com/about/).

Gideon would first appear in the game when Sylas was captured by mageseekers, (a group of people in the country of Demacia who capture, imprison, and torture mages), and frees him despite being a Mageseeker himself. After freeing Sylas, Gideon reveals that the only reason he joined the organization was because his husband, Benjiro, is a mage and the organization found out about it but told Gideon they would spare his husband if he joined their ranks. Gideon agreed and worked with the Mageseekers for an unknown amount of time but is now joining Syla’s group of rebels after learning Benjiro was taken by the mageseekers (https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/The_Mageseeker#Main_Story).

Gideon eventually finds and frees his husband from the Mageseekers but decides to stay and fight with them, stating there is much to do if he and his husband are to live openly and freely (2bskyen, An End to Madness || The Mageseeker #12, 1:04:23).

A funfact about Gideon is that he is the first confirmed gay character in the game to be disabled since the game came out on April 18, 2023, a year before Aphelios did.

Chapter 12: Aphelios

Chapter Text

The next, and last canon character, for this section is Aphelios.

Aphelios was released on December 11 in 2019 he comes from the Lunari faith on Mount Targon and has a twin sister named Alune. The two were born during a rare lunar convergence that blessed Aphelios with superior strength and Alune with powerful magic. The two would be separated when Solari attacked a sacred temple that the Lunari were attending that Alune dragged into the spirit world to keep safe. Now, the two can only interact when Aphelios drinks Noctum which renders him mute due to how tense his vocal cords are. In addition to this, the Noctum also allows him to feel no pain until the effects wear off and act as a magical conduit so he can talk to his sister and gain access to an arsenal of magical weapons that include a sniper rifle (Calibrum), a scythe pistol with built-in sustain (Severum) , a utility cannon (Gravitum) , an AoE/waveclear flamethrower (Infernum) , and a close-range DPS boomerang (Crescendum).

Aphelios was released around the same time another champion named Sett was, which led to the two being shipped by fans. Riot eventually caught onto this and made the two canon in the Spirit Blossom universe with Sett calling aphelios “mooncake” affectionately (Spirit Blossom Sett Special Interactions, 0:04). Now Spirit Blossom is semi canon, these are actual myths that exist in Ionia and the champions are just representing them the same way an actor represents a character on screen. So there was debate on how much this carried over to the champions.

Later on, the two would have interaction in "Legends of Runeterra" where Sett says “I’ll fight for you Phel leave it to me” most likely in response to Alune saying “You must fight, for both of us”(Riot made Sett simp pretty hard for Aphelios lately, 0:12). Which would make sense in canon since the two might meet while Aphelios is on a quest to look for Diana, who is hiding out in Ionia. So, while there was some stuff with riot nudging the fans, and showing support for the ship, there wasn’t much concrete for the two's sexuality outside these instances and a few twitter posts (more on those in Sett’s section)

That is, until the two’s legs would be spotted in the background of league of legends pride art in 2022 by Pablo Gutiérrez, who was an artist for Riot Games (https://sheriff_kyon.artstation.com/projects/aGVO9k). Not only that, but in 2023 the two would also share an icon in the Heartsteel skinline/riot records au, with the background being the gay men and bisexual pride flag respectively (https://wiki.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/Universe:Riot_Records#/media/File:HEARTSTEEL_Sett_&_Aphelios_Duo_profileicon.jpg).

Lastly, Aphelios is the second queer character in the game to be disabled due to the fact that he is mute not only in the main universe, but every skin line he has appeared in.

Chapter 13: Lukai Hwei

Chapter Text

The first non-canon gay character is a fairly recent champion, having been released in 2023 on December 5, and is Lukai Hwei.

Lukai Hwei is an artist who can use paint magic and grew up on the island of Koyhen in Ionia and is the heir to a local temple. Hwei demonstrated immense magical power as a child but lacked much ability to control it due to how responsive his magic is to his emotions, which would cause him to almost drown the masters of his temple. Hwei was curious as to what all his magic could do and would practice in secret at night well into adulthood.

One day, the temple would be visited by Khada Jihn, a fellow artist and Serial Killer who took a liking to Hwei which led to the two of them to spend a “gilded Summer together” where they would walk around the island and talk about art and their respective processes. The night before Jhin was to leave he told Hwei that he knew he was putting up a front, and demanded a real performance. Hwei agreed and released ten years of pent up emotion, forbidden visions and creations through his art. Jhin watched it all “with eyes alight and tone inscrutable,” and said he would return tomorrow to watch a lotus bloom (https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_GB/story/champion/hwei/).

The next day, Hwei and the others woke up to four paintings destroyed, four people masters at the temple murdered and the lowest four floors on fire. Hwei, the sole survivor, watched the entire thing in the same morbid fascination that he had when he was a child and found himself full of mourning yet inspired by the art he had witnessed. After a bit of consideration as to what to do, Hwei decided to hunt Jhin down and get answers for why he did this, all while hunting down those in darkest corners and imprinting suffering on them while also reaching out to the victims to create “shared tranquility and reflection” (https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_GB/story/champion/hwei/).

So the main things for Hwei being gay or attracted to men (Jhin specifically) is because of the vagueness of what these two did for the entire summer as well as their dynamic. Hwei was forbidden from exploring this part of himself for a really long time and it wasn’t until he met Jhin, someone like him, that he was able to fully explore who he was as a person.

These similarities have also had fans draw comparisons of Jhin and Hwei dynamic to that of Graham and Hannibal from the show Hannibal. Both Hwei and Graham, depending on your interpretation, fall in love with a serial killer and find themselves falling more and more into darker parts of themselves the more time they spend with the other while also finding themselves being pushed to their full potential. So the two of them are both growing and learning more about themselves from their relationships with these horrible, monstrous people who see something in them, but not in a necessarily positive way.

Chapter 14: Twisted Fate

Chapter Text

Starting off our next section, Bisexual as well as Pansexuals, will be the original pansexual himself: Twisted Fate.

Twisted Fate, born Tobias Felix, is the other half to Malcom Graves and was released on February 21 in 2009. Tobias was born to a group of nomadic river people and was a successful gambler thanks to the various tricks he learned from his grandfather and aunt. One night, a group of people who had lost their fortunes to Tobias decided to burn down the tents his people were staying in and instead of helping his family Tobias instead ran away. The next day he would be exiled by his family and would find himself spending the next few years in various gambling dens. Eventually, Tobias would meet Malcom Graves and the two would go on to do various high risk jobs and get away with them, that is until one job went south and Malcom Graves was arrested while Tobias and the crew got away. Tobias would try and get Graves back, only to end up getting the entire crew killed in the process, thus leading Tobias to start over and take up the moniker of Twisted Fate.. Tobias and Graves would meet up again during the burning tides event and would reconcile their differences and work together again (https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_GB/story/champion/twistedfate/).

The two would be confirmed gay in 2022 during the pride event thanks to the efforts of the writers and artists. They would be confirmed to be gay and pansexual respectively in the short story The boys and Bombolini where the two not only pretend to be lovers for a split second, but also consider the other attractive, revealing that they both may still have romantic feelings for one another (The Boys and Bombolini - Universe of League of Legends). There would also be various pride emotes, one of which referencing the movie Brookeback Mountain, as well as various official pride art (Celebrate Pride 2022 Across and Beyond Runeterra!). These two would also be featured in official pride art every year since becoming canon (Pride (Event) | League of Legends Wiki).

Chapter Text

Moving onto our next champion, and first confirmed bisexual, we have Rell.

Rell came out on December 10 in 2020, is about 16 years old, and has two different lore.

The first lore states that she comes from what used to be a Prominent house in Noxios, but her parents sent her away to a school for gifted children in an effort to restore their lost prestige. Rell broke out of the school on her 16th birthday, after learning that she was imbued with the magic of her fellow students who were left as mindless husk after the procedure, and that her mother was the headmistress of the school. While it is unclear if her mother made it out alive, one thing was certain: Rell would destroy the school and kill many people during the process.. Now. Rell fights against the government and vows to not only destroy those who stood by while she and other children were being abused, but also to try and save anyone else who is forced to attend Black Rose Academy (Rell - Biography - Universe of League of Legends).

However, her new lore in the Ambessa novel, which theoretically takes place about 20 years before her original lore, is a bit different. In this version she was exploited by her parents in a fighting pit before being found by Ambessa Medarda, and would not only be trained by her, but also travel with Ambessa. The two would form a close mother daughter bond and Rell was supposed to be a member of the Medarda family, but was kidnapped by the Black Rose and forced to endure the same things she did at the school, just in a prison this time (Rell's involvement in Ambessa's book summarized (spoilers) : r/RellMains).

As stated earlier, she is the first character to be explicitly bisexual via her voice lines in which she thirsts over both men and women, especially the muscular ones. Her voice lines to Leona are “all right Rell, be cool. It’s just a tall, superstrong armored lady” and her interaction with Sett has her saying “more like the boss of taking his shirt off” (Skinspotlights-Rell Special Interactions 0:49 and 0:03). Rell was also first included in pride art in 2023 (Celebrating Pride with Community Artists | Riot Games ) and would gain an emote in 2025 (Celebrate Pride 2025: League and TFT). The book also states that Rell had a thing with a stable girl named Tara, and the two do share a kiss.
