Starfleet Files: Enterprise-D and the Emergence Event

On Stardate 47869.2, an unprecedented event occurred. Starfleet’s current flagship, Enterprise NCC 1701-D, had developed sentience. The manner which this occurred remains up for debate. A theta flux distortion which occurred around the time of this event was initially believed to be the cause, but subsequent events appear to have debunked this theory.

During the Emergence event, the sentient Enterprise gave birth to a new lifeform which Captain Jean-Luc Picard ordered to be set free. Then, the Enterprise appeared to have “died”, seeming to have ended the strange event. Yet, this was not the end.

Shortly after this event, another Galaxy class starship, the USS Odyssey was called in to aid in the rescue of Commander Benjamin Sisko in the Gamma Quadrant in what was the Federation’s first contact with the Dominion. However, the Odyssey did not make it. As the Enterprise had done with the theta flux distortion, the Odyssey fled from what would have been a dangerous and likely fatal mission (the new state-of-the-art ship, the USS Sovereign, the first ship of its named class, was called instead, and met a shocking demise at the hands of the Jem’Hadar). Like the Enterprise before it, the Odyssey became sentient (which also went far in debunking the theory that the theta flux distortion caused the Enterprise’s sentience).

More Galaxy class ships would follow their predecessors in these “Emergence” events. It resulted in Starfleet having to abruptly and quietly retire that entire line of ships, both for research purposes, and because these newly awakened sentient beings were deemed to be civilian entities and therefore could no longer be forced to serve Starfleet against their will, especially in the coming conflict with the Dominion. The Sovereign class line of ships was put into faster production to take their place in the Dominion War, while the true reasons behind the abrupt Galaxy class retirement was kept classified for decades.

Decades after the end of the Dominion War, while Starfleet kept the sentient ships a secret so they could live in peace in a quiet section of space provided for them, the Enterprise-D’s offspring returned. Unlike her parent or the rest of her “family”, the Offspring had grown into the form of a ship that appeared as a combination of the Galaxy class and Ambassador class lines of ships, having chosen its form both from records of the Enterprise-C, and material from the Enterprise-C that had remained with the Enterprise-D in a time-rift event that the D’s crew had forgotten.

A team of scientists led by Professor Leah Brahms, Jadzia Dax, and Professor Hallie Soong (a lost daughter of Dr. Noonien Soong who bore a striking resemblance to the chosen appearance of Data's late daugther, Lal), were called in to research the Offspring. In their years of study, they developed a peaceful bond with the being, and they made another discovery- the Offspring called out to her parent, implying the Enterprise-D may have survived somehow.

After the destruction of its drive section and subsequent crash on Veridian III, the saucer section of the Enterprise-D had been retrieved and moved to the Fleet Museum where it lay dormant. Brahms and her team contacted the Museum’s curator, former E-D Engineer Geordi LaForge, and he agreed to help them study the saucer. They discovered that the Enterprise had not “died” after giving birth, but actually went comatose, and with LaForge’s help, Brahms’ team awakened the Enterprise once more.

In the following years since its reawakening, and from the guidance of LaForge and Brahms, the Enterprise began to “heal” herself by not only repairing the internal damage to her saucer-body but also used an ability utilizing nanotechnology to “grow” a new drive section for herself. Dr. Soong would say in her log that a crude comparison to what the Enterprise did would be a lizard regrowing its tail.

So it was that the reawakened Enterprise-D would reunite with her old crew to battle the Borg one final time, the first of the awakened Galaxy class entities to be willing to engage in battle, before she was reunited with her Offspring and returned to the Fleet Museum where they both resided to this day. And the truth of the awakened Galaxy class entities was declassified and revealed to the public, and they continue to live in peace in their reserved space in the Alpha Quadrant.

Starfleet Files: USS Picard NCC-0713-1940

In the wake of the heroic actions of the Titan-A and its crew during the final confrontation with the Borg, the ship would be rechristened. In honor of the man who, along with his family and crew, led that final stand against the Federation’s greatest enemy, the Titan would earn the name USS Picard, and the ship’s former first officer, Seven of Nine, would take command.

However, the Picard would carry more than just the torch of its namesake. An enigmatic Red Directive would call for the ship and its crew to carry on a task like none ever taken by a Starfleet crew. Using a technology left over from one of the Five Reptilian Procreator races, the USS Picard and crew would be placed in an advanced form of suspended animation. The crew would have to say their final goodbyes to their families, including Jack Crusher to his father and namesake of the ship, as their impending journey would be a one-way trip.

The details of the Red Directive must remain vague, but it is known the USS Picard and its crew will remain frozen in time until they awaken in a distant future. A future long after the Federation has entirely departed the Milky Way Galaxy. With a ship bearing a name that will have become mythical in this far-off era, the crew will carry the spark of the Federation and its ideals to a brand-new era of new life and new civilizations that will have emerged long after the Federation has moved on to a great Elsewhere. That, and so much more will be awaiting them.

Starfleet Files: USS Enterprise 1701-S “The Ocean Mother”

In a distant future, long after the Temporal Wars have become a distant and almost vague memory, many changes overtake the Federation. Starting with the return of the so-called "Whale Probe" and its Creators in the 25th century, more and more sentient marine races begin to join the Federation. The process is gradual, but it gets to the point where in the distant future, marine races make up the majority of Starfleet officers.

This is why many of Starfleet's ships would eventually be built almost entirely filled with saltwater to accommodate crews made up entirely of people who live entirely in ocean waters. And the flagship of the Federation, bearing the timeless name Enterprise, would be one of these vessels. A Thalassa Class starship, the Enterprise-S is like a piece of the ocean flying through the stars.

Enterprise-S's design would be only vaguely recognizable to people in the 23rd and 24th centuries. While still bearing an elliptical saucer section and something resembling nacelles, the ship's outer hull is similar to that of the Whale Probe in that appears as if it is made out of organic "skin", and she is permanently bathed in the glow of a marine-blue light. That would be not far from the truth, as the ship was "grown" as a living organism. The ship is truly immense in size, being over 1,000 miles in diameter, roughly the size of the entirety of New Zealand.

Following a trend that began with the Enterprise-D's awakening into sentience in the 24th century and further compounded by the Federation's friendship with the living Whale Probe in the 25th century, the Enterprise-S is a living and sentient ship. During her years in service, she would regard her crew as her children, even through various turnovers. Internally, she has environments much like a seabed in certain areas, deluged with seawater and full of such wonders as coral reefs to make her marine-dwelling crew feel at home during their voyages.

After a lengthy service, Enterprise-S would be retired and be placed among the other legends of the past, such as the famous predecessors bearing her name. However, after millennia of slumber, the Federation calls upon her once for one more task.....

Notes:

A few notes: While I haven't put an exact Stardate on Enterprise-S's creation and service, I'll just say that it is really far into the future. In fact, I'm going to change up Trek canon a bit and say that the peek into Enterprise-J that Agent Daniels gave Archer was actually either in the 28th or 29th centuries rather than 26th, to give you an idea how far out this successor's creation might be. (Plus, that would also mean that the successors of E-D and E-E had a much longer and more meaningful service time than canon suggests).

Starfleet Files: USS Ambassador

At the dawn of the 24th century, a new class of ships would replace the Excelsior class to lead Starfleet, with the latest ship to bear the name Enterprise in that time period being among them, and the USS Ambassador would be the first ship in this line that would bear its name. Sitting in the command chair would be a Saurian woman named Captain Saa’gara.

One of the Ambassador’s earliest and most renowned missions would see the Ambassador and her crew resolve a crisis that opened the Federation’s door to more reptilian races than had previously joined. A confrontation between the Gorn Hegemony and the Reptilian Xindi had erupted. The Gorn sought to free the U’tani, an all-female snake race, from Xindi bondage. The peaceful U’tani, not understanding how to engage in physical warfare, had been living under the yoke of the Reptilian Xindi for two centuries, and the Gorn became aware of their plight and sought to liberate them, willing to engage in all-out warfare against the Xindi to achieve this.

For the Federation, this could have had negative consequences. The Federation had been on good terms with the Gorn Hegemony since James T. Kirk’s first contact with them on Cestus III. And for the Xindi, the Federation had managed a rocky peace with all their sub-races ever since the war with them in the 22nd century had come to a close. Now, this shaky peace was in jeopardy by both factions coming close to war.

This was also a personal matter for Captain Saa’gara, as she and the entire Saurian race felt an inexplicable connection to both the Gorn and the U’tani they sought to liberate. With the Ambassador’s intervention, and the ensuing peace talks Saa’gara helped begin, a conflict was avoided, and the Reptilian Xindi grudgingly released the U’tani from their enslavement. Since then, the Gorn have watched over the U’tani and protected them, allowing the snake women to live out their lives of peace and non-violence.

The Ambassador would have many more missions and take her place in Starfleet history. However, the union of the Gorn and U’tani would lead to a greater secret hidden among the reptilian races of the Galaxy, that secret which made the Saurians feel such a powerful connection to the Gorn and U’tani. As the 24th century would come to a close, the USS Ambassador would be called on for one final mission to explore this ancient secret before taking her place at the Fleet Museum.

Starfleet Files: Return of the USS Enterprise-C

In the early 24th century, the USS Enterprise 1701-C had gone down in history with its crew sacrificing themselves to defend the Klingon outpost on Narenda III from a Romulan attack. The ship was presumed destroyed, but the future would reveal otherwise.

After the death of the much-celebrated Ambassador Spock, his eldest daughter, Laris, born from a brief union between Spock and Saavik on the Genesis planet, had taken up the task of continuing the Reunification negotiations between the Romulan Star Empire and the Vulcans after the Dominion War had ended. During the negotiations, Laris had made a great discovery: While none of her crew survived to this day, the USS Enterprise-C had, in fact, not been destroyed, and was kept in storage by the Romulans.

This was a profound discovery for Laris. At the time of its final stand, Enterprise-C was under the command of Captain Rachel Garrett. However, the ship’s first captain was none other than Laris, with Garrett serving as her first officer before eventually taking the up the captain’s chair. Laris and Garrett had formed a friendship in that time comparable to what Laris’ father had shared with James T. Kirk. To honor her late friend and shipmate, Laris was determined to get Enterprise-C back from the Romulans.

The negotiations took an unexpected turn when the infamous Cetacean Probe returned to the Alpha Quadrant, bringing its creators with it, and it was Kay Grayson, Laris’ younger sister born from a union between Spock and Jadzia Dax during the Dominion War, who formed a communication with them. These communications between Laris’ sister and the cetacean beings threatened the Reunification talks, as the Probe had previously devastated a Romulan military outpost in the 23rd century, and the Romulan Senate and military leaders were still bitter and vengeful over the incident.

This would lead to a near-conflict between the Romulans, Starfleet, and the Cetacean beings which Laris, with the help of her father’s friend Jean-Luc Picard, would learn to master the negotiating skills she learned from her father. They would also hijack the Enterprise-C in a confrontation with Commander Sela before Laris and Kay managed to get the Romulan people on their side to force the Senate to back down from the confrontation and make a truce with the Cetaceans (and the Cetaceans would also help Laris and Kay use latent Genesis abilities they unknowingly inherited from their father which would prove useful in helping the Cetaceans form a new homeworld).

Now, the USS Enterprise-C has been returned to Starfleet, and has been enshrined at the Fleet Museum along with her sister ship the Ambassador and with the NX-01, A, and D ships which share the name Enterprise.

Notes:

So, yeah, if you've read some of my stories already, you know that Jadzia Dax did *not* end up with Worf in my Trekverse. Instead, during the events of DS9's final season, she left the station to help Spock with the Reunification movement, which was playing a crucial role in the Federation's alliance with the Romulans during the Dominion War. During that time, there was a little Pon Farr incident, which Spock still experienced even in his older age, and Jadzia was all too eager to partake in it with her childhood crushXD

Also, the plot you've seen summarized here is my vision for my own version of Picard season 1. Here, instead of a Romulan housekeeper living with Picard, Laris is the daughter of Spock and Saavik that was supposed to be in the script for The Voyage Home, only to be cut.

Section 31 Files: Project Phoenix

Common knowledge says that the renowned James T. Kirk was killed during the maiden voyage of USS Enterprise-B when it encountered a phenomenon known as the Nexus. However, classified statements from Captain Jean-Luc Picard revealed that Kirk had been alive inside the Nexus and had been brought out from it by Picard, only to appear to have been killed again during Picard’s fight with Dr. Soren on Veridian III.

When Starfleet recovered the damaged saucer of Enterprise-D on Veridian III, Kirk’s body was also found. To the surprise of the officers of the team that found him, he was alive, albeit in a critical state. He was taken to the nearest Starfleet medical station for treatment, but someone else intervened. Section 31 had interests of their own in the famed former captain of the Enterprise.

Section 31 kept Kirk in stasis for decades. Project Genesis had been restarted in secret, and shadow organization wished to use Kirk as one of their test subjects, planning to resurrect him with the Genesis Effect as his friend Spock had once been resurrected. However, the organization failed to find a means to make the power of Genesis stable. At least, they failed at first.

When the Cetacean Probe returned to the Alpha Quadrant, bringing its creators with it, they communicated with Kay and Laris, the daughters of the late Ambassador Spock and drew out the power of Genesis they had unknowingly inherited from their father. The cetacean beings then used their own advanced technology, which was far beyond most documented civilizations, to refine the Genesis power in a way that made it stable, by which Kay was able to help them create a new homeworld for themselves.

That was what Section 31 had waited for. Taking samples of both Kay and Laris’ blood, along with samples from the new homeworld of the cetaceans, they finally unlocked the true potential of Genesis. Their designs for Kirk, among other plans, could proceed, and Project Phoenix began

Kirk remains in stasis, but he has been resurrected in a new state of being, becoming superior in many ways to even the Augments of the late 20th century. And the designs go even further than that. As the USS Picard and its crew have been placed in suspended animation under a Red Directive order to awaken in a distant future, so too does Section 31 plan for Kirk to awaken in a far-off future long after the Federation is gone. The Picard crew are not the only ones who carry the torch of the current era to a coming age.

In this era, however, Section 31 has other uses for the power of Genisis. Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy once spoke of his fears regarding how a Genesis Device could be weaponized. What was a source of fear for McCoy is an opportunity in the eyes of Section 31, and their newly developed Genesis Device II awaits its usage on a world inhabited any enemies of Starfleet which Section 31 sees fit to deal with in such a manner……

Empire Doctrine: Mother Enterprise, The Living Ship

For those who partook in the Terran Rebellion against the Cardassian-Klingon Alliance, only a select few were privy to the knowledge that it was secretly led by none other than Spock, the last Emperor of the Terran Empire. Contrary to what the propaganda of the Alliance claimed, Spock had survived and now hid in the shadows to guide the Rebellion into defeating the alliance and restoring the Terran Empire.

Fewer still knew that this was a mere cover to cloak a deeper truth, one that Jadzia Idaris, a member of the Rebellion who became one of Spock’s consorts, was made aware of. Digging deep to find what had become of her daughters, Jadzia discovered that her lord was himself a puppet for the true leader of the Rebellion- The Living Ship.

None could say from where She came. Bearing the name of the legendary ship ISS Enterprise, She had the odd registration of 1701-D, despite no known lettered ships among the Empire’s fleet coming before Her. And none could say who built Her, and how She gained sentience. The only one besides Mother Enterprise Herself who may know the truth is High Priestess Brahms, who keeps whatever knowledge she may have a deeply guarded secret.

All that Jadzia comes to know once she finds her missing daughters and joins them in the priesthood of the The Living Ship is that Mother Enterprise founded the Terran Rebellion as a front for Her designs of ruling the entire Alpha and Beta Quadrants. And now that the Cardassian-Klingon Alliance has fallen, with Indendant Kira’s cleaned skull adorning Jadzia’s home, Jadzia and her daughters join forces with Spock's one-time right-hand man, Jean-Luc Picard, and have been given the task of bringing Mother Enterprise’s glory to the reaches of the known Galaxy…..

Starfleet Files: The Blue Directive

The humanoid races of the Milky Way Galaxy are not the only races who share a common ancient ancestral secret. Many of the known reptilian races, such as the Gorn, U’tani, Selay, and Federation member race the Saurians, tell myths and folktales that share common motifs with one another. Not only do they worship a near-identical pantheon of deities, but they also tell a common story of the ancient serpent and saurian beings who brought this faith to them- the Five Procreator Races, as they are called in each culture’s tongue.

There was a twist to all this- members of these five mysterious and ancient races had visited non-reptilian races at various points in history to impart their wisdom and spirituality upon them. The best documented among these was the feathered serpent being Kukulkan, later encountered by Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise. It is also believed that the Serpent of Xol, who was slain by Kahless, was a less fortunate member of this race who made the misguided decision to visit Qo’nos.

It was after a bizarre, but well-documented spiritual experience by an U’tani priestess that Starfleet renewed their interest in this matter. Believing that the Procreator Races may have had answers to deeper secrets to the universe and its origins, perhaps greater than even what the Humanoid Progenitors held, Starfleet assigned a team fronted by Jadzia Dax on a Quadrant-wide hunt for these answers aboard the USS Ambassador for that ship’s final mission. This mission was given the unique designation, The Blue Directive.

With her daughter Kay joining the team at the request of Ambassador Spock, Jadzia’s team would uncover truths far beyond known existence. They opened the door to a greater Multiverse far beyond the alternate realities of this universe; universes and realms of existence drawn from myths, stories, and the imaginations of all.

And startling secrets were uncovered about the identities of the Five Procreators. While the nature of two of those races remains shrouded in mystery, one of those races originates from Earth, the evolved descendants of brontosauri dinosaurs from the Jurassic Era. But even more shocking was the connection to Planet Trill. One of the Procreator Races, after hundreds of millions of years of evolution, went from a spacefaring race to becoming a race of faceless symbiote organisms capable of carrying on the memories of their hosts which the people of Trill knew all to well. Or perhaps didn’t truly know them at all?

In the end, Starfleet is keeping the knowledge gained from this a secret, even in this report. It can be said that Jadzia Dax and her mother, Kay Idaris, have recovered something in this experience that had been lost to them for years, and now Starfleet must decide how they are going to approach the knowledge of a greater Multiverse, and we must decide what to be done regarding what was discovered lying beneath the blue clouds of Planet Neptune in the Sol System during this mission……

The story of the Blue Directive begins in chapter 10 of "Daughters of the Blue Planet", which itself is the final story of my "Neptune's Tsunami" saga- Neptune's Tsunami - Jaziria25
