Summary
She played softly, fingers gliding over the ancient keys of the piano the Room had conjured — her mother’s salon, reborn in flickering candlelight. Notes drifted through the air like smoke, curling around the dark figure in the armchair behind her.
Tom Riddle sat with one leg crossed, firewhiskey in one hand, a lit cigarette in the other. He watched her through the haze, silent, as if trying to memorize every gesture, every sound. The flames caught in the glass and in her hair, and for a moment, he looked less like a boy destined for infamy and more like someone who had almost forgotten how alone he was.
“You don’t play for them,” he said quietly.
Hermione didn’t look up. “No.”
“But you play for me.”
A pause. Then: “Always.”
