Work Text:
After putting on her sleepwear, Amiya neatly folded up her coat and placed it on her desk, the same spot she always put it. For her, at least, having a nightly routine was very helpful in having a peaceful night's sleep. She would always make sure to brush her teeth, take her medicine, put on warm pajamas, fold up her clothes, and then get nice and comfy in bed after setting her alarm. However, as Amiya smiled at the photos she hung on the wall by her desk, something out of routine would happen for the first time in quite a while.
A faint series of knocks, seeming to be almost without confidence, rang on her bedroom door. Amiya perked up, staring at the door as if that could possibly tell her what was behind it, but she quickly started to wonder if it was just her imagination. Then, when she heard a following series of knocks a moment later, she realized that it was very much real and swiftly made her way to the door. As she brought her hand up to the panel, she wondered who it could possibly be. Naturally there was the chance that it was the Doctor or Kal’tsit checking in on her, but that didn’t really seem too likely.
As she pressed the button, the door slid wide open to show a very familiar face to Amiya. Initially her anxiety spiked at the out of nowhere unexplained knocking, but when she saw an adorable grey haired Feline outside her room, she suddenly felt extremely happy. Well, that was to be expected upon seeing a very good friend. She told herself it had nothing to do with the super cute sleepwear she was wearing, not at all…
“Rosmontis?” Amiya questioned, turning her head to the side to look at the girl. She looked a bit sad today, and her head was turned away from the bunny. “What’s wrong?”
Rosmontis turned up to face Amiya, but her heart broke the instant that she saw the red around her eyes. It was clear she had been crying, and Amiya felt for the girl so much all the time. The kitten started to sniffle, bringing her hands to wipe away the moisture from her eyes as she spoke. “I-I’m sorry, Amiya, I… I just can’t sleep…” She seemed to hesitate for a second, but soon couldn’t help herself and reached out to grab her friend’s hand, contact made her feel much better. “I’m scared… c-can I sleep with you tonight? J-Just for tonight…”
“Aww, Rosmontis, I’m so sorry you’re feeling that way.” Amiya comforted, reaching out to gently pat at the kitten’s head. She seemed to feel a lot brighter just from the pets, but that was to be expected with her. “Of course you can! I want you to know you don’t have to feel anxious, you can come sleep with me anytime if it’ll help!”
“Really?” Rosmontis responded as she continued to melt from both the contact and the acceptance. “You’d really do that for me?”
“It goes without saying, silly. You’re my dear friend, so I want to do anything that will make you feel better.” Amiya responded with an inviting smile, feeling better already that she was able to brighten up Rosmontis so quickly. “Come on, let’s get to bed~!” The Cautus announced, holding her friend’s hand tight and pulling her a few steps into the room.
“W-Wait, Amiya…” Rosmontis started, surprising the other girl into stopping midway through the room. As she looked back at the Feline, she could see her avert her gaze and start blushing slightly. “I just wanted to say, um, well… you look really really cute in your pajamas.”
“O-Oh!” Amiya blushed, having a hard time understanding why such a simple comment caused her heart to beat so furiously. However, looking back at her dear friend, she could hardly let that slide while Rosmontis was in the same room. “You’re adorable in them as well, when I saw you it was the first thing I could think of, hehe.”
Rosmontis turned back to face her friend, but this time she puffed up her cheeks in an exaggerated pout. “Amiya is cuter.”
Seeing as there was no way to win this, Amiya decided to simply laugh it off and let Rosmontis claim victory. What she did not decide, however, was for her blush to not go down at all whatsoever. In fact, as she slid into bed and offered the space next to her to the Feline, she felt even more flustered.
It continued to get worse for the bunny girl when Rosmontis climbed right in and laid by her side. Rhodes Island had to accommodate a lot of people, so its dorms usually had quite small beds in them. Amiya, despite being the leader, would not accept special privileges whatsoever, so of course her room wasn’t any different. That said, there wasn’t really much space left between them when all was said and done. Rosmontis’ face was just a few inches away from hers, Rosmontis’ cute… adorable… loveable… f-face…
“Good night, I hope you can sleep better now. You deserve it for being such a good girl.” After making sure both of them were secured under the covers, Amiya didn’t waste time in turning off the lights, which made things a little bit easier. However, even under the cover of darkness, Amiya squirmed when feeling the heat of the very close girl’s breath.
Rosmontis rustled around a bit, and in the end scooched herself a little closer to Amiya, their arms and legs slightly touching at this point. The kitten didn’t seem to mind whatsoever, but the bunny was even more flustered than before. Letting out a sleepy mew, the Feline continued to mumble a bit. “Have I… really been a good girl?”
“Mhm!” Amiya instantly replied. Despite her nerves, she reached out and caressed her fingers through her friend’s hair without a second thought. No matter what, making sure Rosmontis was comforted and assured was more important than her idle feelings. “You’ve been working so hard lately, I can tell. I’m really proud of you, you’re such a good girl.”
Rosmontis, unconsciously or consciously, nuzzled up the Amiya’s chest with the utmost sense of comfort. She began to softly purr as she felt Amiya’s fingers work through her hair. “E-Even though Amiya… is a better girl… it makes me really happy when you… say nice things about me…”
“Then I’ll make sure to say it as much as you’d like.” Amiya responded warmly despite how much her body was burning up from her endlessly running thoughts. Rosmontis only purred louder the sleepier and sleepier she got. “There there, you’re all okay. Right here with me, being such a good girl. My good girl. Now get some sleep, okay? I’ll be here by your side the whole time.”
“Hehe, okayyy~~” Rosmontis gently mewed in response, already seeming only half awake. Amiya didn’t need any light in the room to tell that her face was in a bright smile. She leaned herself closer again, to the point where she was fully cuddling with Amiya, but the bunny girl would never complain. “Hey, Amiya, I… I have to tell you something…”
“Hm?” Amiya perked up in response to the Feline’s drowsily offered comment. “What is it?”
Rosmontis nuzzled her head against Amiya’s chest once more, taking in all the warmth the other girl had to give. Perhaps as she was in the midst of falling asleep, she softly answered her dear friend’s question. “I love you…”
Wh–
Wha–
What!?
Amiya’s heart, which was already racing a mile a minute, was on the verge of jumping from her chest when she fully processed the words she just heard. A large part of her wanted to yelp in response, to get Rosmontis to fully clarify if she really meant each and every word, but as she looked at the now sleeping girl in her arms she couldn’t bear to disturb her. This did nothing to calm the raging thumps of her chest, and the whirlpool of thoughts in her head, but she was content in just knowing that Rosmontis was sleeping peacefully and happy.
Perhaps she could ask Rosmontis in the morning how she meant it, and perhaps the other girl would have completely forgotten it, but right now that didn't matter. Amiya smiled tenderly, before leaning down and planting a quick kiss on the sleeping kitten’s forehead.
Rest well, Rosmontis. You deserve it.
