Notes:

Hey! This is my first fanfic here :) I've been wanting to write more, since it's one of my favorite hobbies ever, and since summer break has just started for me, this is my chance to polish more my writing skills. I apologize in advance if the title and the plot in general are kind of plain and maybe even cliché. I may not be feeling really inspired regardless of this being the first thing I write in a lot of time, but I really want to write something fluffy and sweet. I'm so interested in Akito's kindness and sweet side, which he won't be willing to admit most of the times, but it's so nice seeing it into action! So I headcanon that Akito, taking advantage of Kohane's loving-kindness warmth, puts all his effort into treating Kohane with tenderness (especially when he is alone with her), as she does with all her loved ones. Akito and Kohane's relationship has such a sweet dynamic for me: he doesn't want Kohane's smile to be erased, but give her all the happiness she brings to others.

I will eventually update with new chapters, but I don't know with what kind of regularity I'll be posting. Who knows: maybe, if I feel too inspired one day, I can be able to post two chapters in a day :o

And last but not least, I want to let you know that obviously other characters from other units appear (I MISS MIXED EVENTS SO MUCH)!! There are even Polyneed crumbs so if you love them as much as I do, you'll surely enjoy the first chapter.

If there's anything you think I could improve, don't hesitate to give me advice! I hope you enjoy this fic, fellow Akikohers!

Chapter 1: After School Surprise

Chapter Text

It was 15:30 at Miyamasuzaka Girls' Academy, and the bell marking the end of the last class of the day had already rung. All the girls were ready to put their books and other school material in their school bags as soon as they heard that distinctive tune.

“Remember that we have an English exam tomorrow, Ichika, don't forget to take the textbook for revising.” -Honami advised her friend.

“That's right, I almost forgot...! Thank you, Honami! Did you take it as well, Kohane?” -Ichika turned to Kohane, a blonde girl with two small pigtails and a sweet expression on her face.

Kohane, despite having put away all her material, seemed distracted, and didn't pay attention at the moment to Ichika's question. Ichika, surprised, passed her hand in front of her to bring her back to her senses.

“Oh, I'm sorry, I got distracted for a moment... Yes, I've put it all away! Anyway, in case I forgot to take the book, I've already got all the notes in my study notebook, and I've also done again the exercises with all the right answers, so it'll just be a review!” -Kohane explained to her classmates.

As they chatted, the girls grabbed their bags and left the classroom in order, heading down the corridor to meet their friends from other classes.

“Wow, you're as organised as ever, Kohane! How come you've already studied everything? With all you've practised, you'll hardly need to dedicate any time to revision. I bet you still remember all the vocabulary perfectly.” -Ichika was astonished at Kohane's commitment to studies.

However, the reason for Kohane's early study was actually related to her plans for the afternoon before the exam.

“Well, the thing is, I have plans for this afternoon... And I'll probably be too tired when I get back home in the evening, so I'll just read once again the vocabulary to make sure I don't forget anything. With that, it will be enough.” -Kohane confessed with a bit of embarrassment and without going into too much detail about her plans.

“Well, you did well with preparing everything for today. Whatever it is, I wish you the best, Kohane!” -Honami exclaimed, with an affable smile on her face.

“Just the same, have a good afternoon, Kohane. I imagine that before you leave, you'll go home to drop off your things. We can walk you home, we don't have band practice until later.” -Ichika offered to Kohane.

“I appreciate your intention, Ichika, but I'm being picked up now, so I won't be home. “ -Kohane replied, with a sad smile, feeling sorry for having to refuse the offer.

“By who, Kohane?” -a cheerful voice asked, coming from the 2-A class.

“Eep! Saki, I didn't expect you to come out all of a sudden! Well... It's someone from my group...” -Kohane was startled.

“Someone from your group...? You got scared and didn't know what to say, for sure.” -Saki joked, with a playful smile.

Kohane's face was getting redder and redder, and she kept quiet so as not to say more. Honami immediately noticed her nervousness and intervened on her behalf:

“Saki! Kohane seems to be overwhelmed with so many questions...”

“I'm really sorry, Kohane, I didn't mean to overwhelm you!” -Saki apologized.

Kohane laughed sweetly at Saki's candid and cheerful, if sometimes mischievous, personality. She herself was the one who was nervous about her date.

“It's fine, Saki, don't worry about it. It's just me, I'm so nervous...” Kohane stammered, shrugging her shoulders in embarrassment.

Honami looked at her watch and saw that it was already ten past three in the afternoon.

“It's already ten past three! Time really flies... I think we should be heading home now. Besides, I have to stop by Kanade's house to bring her the meals for the whole week, since it's Monday. Well, girls, see you at six o'clock for practice. And have a nice day, Kohane, enjoy yourself.” -Honami said goodbye cheerfully to her friends.

“Yes, see you later, Honami! And see you tomorrow, Kohane, have fun!” -Saki and Ichika said in unison.

“Thank you! Bye, girls. See you tomorrow, and good luck with band practice.” -Kohane said.

Kohane ran out of the door. She didn't want to make him wait too long, and she was afraid that she could have done it, as he is very punctual (he even usually arrives before the hour!). Meanwhile, while Honami and Ichika went out, Saki hid behind a bush without wanting to be noticed by them to watch the “so awaited by her” moment better. However, as soon as they noticed that she was very quiet, they would find out and couldn't help but laugh.

“Hehehehe... I need to know who Kohane is meeting with...” -Saki laughed, showing a mischievous smile.

Kohane arrived at the door and there he was, serious, looking at the time on his phone. As soon as he noticed Kohane's footsteps he turned and stretched out his arms to let her wrap him in a hug.

“Shinonome, sorry to keep you waiting! I walked my friends to the door and I got a bit distracted talking to them.” -she apologised, as she jumped into his arms and hugged him.

Akito tenderly gave her a spontaneous kiss on the top of her head and then caressed it.

“It's alright, Kohane, I have thought so. I've arrived here too early anyway... I was already here waiting for you 10 minutes before your classes ended.” -Akito said, in an understanding and calm tone.

“But, Shinonome, as your classes finish one hour earlier than mine, didn't you stop for a moment at home to have lunch before coming to get me?” -Kohane asked, surprised.

“I took advantage of school break to have lunch, and if I had eaten at home, I don't think I could have made it in time. I was quite hungry, to be honest, I couldn't hold back any longer. Besides, we're going to have a busy afternoon today, so I needed some energy.” -Akito explained, with his usual seriousness.

Kohane laughed and hugged him again. She wrapped her arms around his belly and rested her head very gently on him.

“You've really eaten well... I can tell that your belly is very happy by the little noises it's making.” -Kohane said innocently.
Akito blushed and let out a small nervous laugh. He hadn't expected that, but Kohane's naivety, even if he didn't usually admit it openly, aroused his tenderness.

“Yes, very happy... But I'm even happier to see you. Well, let's get going, or else it's going to be too late.” -Akito replied, still a little embarrassed.

When she nodded, he kissed her on the lips. Then he grabbed her hand, and together, they started to walk away from the school. Saki was still watching the couple from afar. Her eyes widened as she witnessed the beautiful encounter between Akito and Kohane, and felt herself melt with love.

“It can't be...! The person Kohane was talking about was Akito, Tsukasa's friend! I had forgotten that both Akito and Kohane sang together in the same group. What a terrible memory I have, how could I forget… I know she told me about Vivid Bad Squad and how they had surpassed Rad Weekend recently... They’re so cool…” -Saki thought, still in awe.

Ichika, Honami and Shiho, who had already joined them just after Kohane left, turned around, discovered Saki in her hiding place and laughed later on.

“Come on, Saki, come out of there, or else we'll have to leave without you” -Shiho joked.

“Nooo, wait for me, girls!” -Saki exclaimed in panic, running towards her beloved bandmates.

Chapter 2: Burning down the fear

Notes:

Hi! Sorry for the late update. I've been a bit busy these days with plans, but I took advantage of the fact that today I didn't have anything to do so I could write the new chapter. It's is going to be kind of sentimental, but Akito will be there to cheer up Kohane and be the supportive boyfriend ever... We love him for that, and for a lot more things :)
Let's see how their date goes! I hope you enjoy this chapter.

By the way, thank you so much for all the support you gave me in the first chapter. It makes me so happy that you enjoy my writing and motivates me to keep going with this story <3

Chapter Text

Kohane had no idea of where Akito was going to take her for their first date. They had already planned that; however, he told her that it was going to be a surprise. She trusted him, for sure, but she was chiefly excited of knowing where it could be. Her first and, mostly only thought was a pancake place. Nonetheless, she presumed that it would probably be a place he had never taken anyone before, so that made her feel even more special. What could be greater than tasting new kinds of pancakes with your pancake-lover boyfriend instead of eating the ones he is already used to eat in his trusted café?

One month after the RAD BLAST event, where VIVID BAD SQUAD surpassed the legendary night that everyone in Vivid Street admired and used to talk about, known as RAD WEEKEND, the four street artists met at Weekend Garage, the café that An's dad, Ken, owns. They reunited to talk over their future plans.

"These English lessons will bore me to death! I can't understand a thing of what the teacher is saying." -An complained, while taking a sip to her latte.

"That's because we've still only had the first one... Bold of you to assume we can master English with only one lesson." -Akito grunted as he looked at An with a tired expression.

Toya chuckled at Akito and An's silly argument, to then suddenly change his smiley expression to his more serious one, typical of his "strict teacher" mode.

"I'll make sure you two always get your homework done. If not, I'll talk to you in English for a straight hour so that you're forced to practice. And no japanese, got it? But that won't happen unless you don't study properly." -Toya gently, but firmly threatened them.

“Y-yes, Toya! We'll finish all of our homework!” -An stuttered, scared by his seriousness.

Kohane was amused by the scene: even though she didn’t say anything, she was smiling all the time at An, Akito and Toya. She had always felt alive with them by her side and she still couldn’t believe the fact they finally got to achieve their dream. However, taking that step had only made a new aim arise: taking over the world.

“An! If you don’t mind, can you help me brewing coffee while I answer the phone, please?” -Ken suddenly called her daughter.

“Sure, dad! I’m coming! Wait a moment, guys.” -An answered to his father’s call and headed to the bar.

“Then I'll use the restroom for a bit. I'll be back in five minutes so we can keep on talking.” -Toya stated as he got up from the chair.

“Alright. Kohane and I will wait for you here.” -Akito told Toya in his usual serious tone.

When Toya disappeared from the room, Kohane inevitably blushed. Both Toya and An already knew that things between her and Akito had recently turned softer and more intimate, so they thought about sometimes giving them their space as the two of them might want to be alone for a while.

“Kohane, now that we’re both alone, I’ve been thinking about taking you to a special place next month… once spring arrives.” -Akito explained to her, feeling somewhat nervous.

“What place? I'm really curious about it, Shinonome.” -Kohane seemed confused by Akito's sudden plan.

“It’s a surprise. You’ll see when we get there. If I told you, that would make it less exciting for a first date, you know?” -Akito showed a smirk on his face.

“Hehe. Then I'm looking forward to seeing it by myself. It must be really special for you if you want to keep it a surprise.” -Kohane giggled innocently.

Akito and Kohane got to the bus stop and waited for the bus to come. However, they didn’t have to wait for too long and it arrived just in time. Ten minutes later, he grabbed her hand.

“We need to get off at this stop. The special place is only five minutes away.” -Akito gently smiled at Kohane, while the bus had stopped and its door’s had finally opened.

They walked for a while, and when they finally got to the place, Kohane immediately knew that her gut feeling was right: it was a beautiful café surrounded by cherry blossoms, almost straight out of a fairytale. Her smile widened and her eyes started sparkling, filled with joy.

“You know me so well. We just stopped here and you immediately knew that was the surprise location for our first date… It looks really beautiful now that the cherry blossoms have bloomed, right?” -Akito said with a softer tone in his voice, as he tenderly took her hand.

Nevertheless, Kohane's smile suddenly dropped, and Akito stared at her with wide-open eyes. Did he do anything wrong, or said something that she found rude? Fear suddenly gripped him. After what felt like eternity, Kohane's smiley expression finally came back to her face, but it was bittersweet.

”You know what? I'm really going to miss Japan during our trip to America… It’s not that I don’t want to travel abroad, but if we want to take over the world, we will have to get used to be far from home, and I fear that I end up feeling homesick.” -Kohane explained in a quiet tone. Her voice was trembling slightly, but she tried to hide it.

”I'm really sorry if I've made you feel upset about this…” -Akito said unconsciously, but he couldn't finish his line.

”Don't worry, it’s okay. That thought has been floating around my mind for all the week. I'm sorry if I got carried away by my feelings, fears and worries too much. This place is really beautiful, Shinonome. You have chosen the perfect spot for our first date. Really.” -Kohane felt relieved by Akito's presence, which brought back her inner peace.

Without letting go of her hand, he slowly placed his lips on her forehead, to kiss it tenderly, as a sign of protection.

“You will be fine. Remember that we are all in this together, Kohane. I also fear that I might miss home, but knowing that I have you by my side encourages me to keep pushing forward a new dream full of hope. You are all my fuel, especially you.”

A warm feeling surrounded Kohane, as if she could feel Akito's soul burning with passion. He was right: even if she’s far from Japan, why would she feel homesick if, whenever she is with them, she feels right at home?

“You’re right, I can’t let fear to hold me back never again.” -Kohane said with determination.

”It’s good to accept it, though. And now you've done that, you know what’s next?” -Akito asked in a playful tone.

“Let me guess… burn it? That’s something you would say, Shinonome!” -Kohane chuckled while imitating him.

Akito let out a short but loud laugh, and a grin appeared in his face.

“Exactly, that’s it. Burn down the fear. And now that there isn't anything left from the ashes, let’s enjoy a plate full of delicious pancakes. But these won’t be regular pancakes. I'm sure you will love them. Just wait for it!”

Kohane looked at Akito with a loving look, full of hope — that kind of hope you only feel on your first date; that feeling that appears to exist only in the sweetest dreams, but, when experienced, makes you the happiest person in the world.
