At the age of 21, Yujin’s first job out of college is being a fucking uber driver.

Now, Yujin has no shade to throw at uber drivers, he got them all the time, but when you have the worst customer pool known to mankind, it’s kind of hard NOT to hate the job.

Everything was fine two weeks ago. He’d had his drunk adults and rowdy teenagers, the normal customers that never bothered him. He’s even had tourists sometimes; those rides were only awkward because of the language barrier but looking at his reviews, they didn’t seem to mind.

But lately, he’s been getting annoyed with the adults getting in his car.

The first ride wasn’t anything he hadn’t expected. His pickup was from a party venue he’s familiar with. He could tell the guy he was picking up must not have been from Korea, what with his name.

His rider had about three minutes before Yujin either pulled off or charged him extra for the wait. Yujin was supposed to end his shift early today to hang with his friends later.

As soon as the mental clock in Yujin’s head ticked off 5 minutes, a guy approached his door with a giant hovering over him.

The two guys were clearly drunk, hence the uber. The little one carrying the much bigger one tried his best to push the big guy into the car, Yujin even thought to step out and help.

The whole ride, the little guy who booked the ride was whispering to the big guy and asking him if he was alright and making sure he was well enough to get home. Yujin tried not to meddle but he needed to make sure this guy wasn’t trying to put the other one in danger. He relaxed when the big guy slurred out that he was fine and would rather just stay with his hyung.

After arriving, Yujin watched as they made it into an apartment complex and left to spend the rest of his night with his friends.

By chance, he ended up with the same rider a week or so later. He was with a different friend, this time sober.

They were headed to some cafe Yujin had never seen before—he’d have to check this place out with Woonhak and Kyungmin some other time.

Yujin caught only a little of the conversation. “We kissed that night but I don’t think he remembers,” Matthew, he’s assuming, said.

The other guy tried to convince him that it was a mutual thing and not because they were drunk. Yujin had pulled up to the cafe before he caught the rest of the conversation.

By fate, he ended up getting the bigger guy as his rider the next day, accompanied with friends: a lanky, puppy looking guy and a man who looked to be a model but with a cat like appearance. The two friends were holding hands, dating Yujin thought, while the big guy—Gunwook?—explained something similar to what he heard yesterday.

“I don’t know guys, I stayed with him and we kissed but it’s like he regrets it. I don’t know if he even remembers it.” Gunwook said, clear disappointment in his voice.

The cat-like guy, having a deeper voice than he initially thought, sounded a little annoyed. “Gunwook, you guys literally danced together the whole night and you stayed with him. What about that is platonic to you?”

Yujin then arrived at their drop off, the guys getting out after thanking him.

It continued like this for at least a month. What kind of jobs do these guys have to always order ubers? Do none of these mfs drive?

Yujin was getting too invested. He didn’t want to intrude but he’d heard enough about these two to let this shit slide. They seemed perfect for each other, both oblivious and dumb.

They had great friends but clearly an extra little push is needed.

As an uber driver, UberX was something Yujin has done before. Somebody books a ride with him, another person gets in at another pickup and they proceed with the ride.

Yujin had a plan to manipulate his job to bring the two together. He wasn’t going to accept any other riders until the two were stuck in his car together.

It had taken a little while before he could get Gunwook and Matthew on his UberX list. Yujin first picked up Matthew, he wasn’t dressed too fancy which was good for where they were going. Yujin had to ask their friends in a not-so-creepy way to convince them to go to the park. He had forced his own friends, Leeseo and Sakuya, to stand by and guide the two throughout the night. Yujin was only 21, he didn’t know a lot about going out on dates so he figured something friendly and comfortable should work.

As Yujin pulled up to the familiar complex, Matthew was visibly confused at the arrival, “Excuse me, why are we stopping here?”

“I have another rider to pick up, hopefully that’s not a problem.” Yujin replied politely, ulterior motives concealed. “Oh.. that's alright, I was just a little confused.” He smiled at Yujin. Poor guy doesn’t know what he’s about to get into.

You could probably imagine Matthew’s surprise as Gunwook walked to the car. Gunwook was more surprised as he opened the door.

The two awkwardly sat in the back and made small talk about stuff none of them, including Yujin, cared about. Hopefully the whole night wasn’t like this.

Yujin arrived at the park, the two of them still confused. “Have fun!” Yujin said as he pulled off, leaving the two in the hands of his friends.

A few days later, Yujin gets a notification from his Uber account.
