Chapter Text
"Oh my fuck! Is this day over yet? I need a drink."
Working at a Monster establishment as a human, the only human staff member at that, was going to be a challenge. But, hey. The pay was good and it was never boring there. All in all you liked the odd creatures. Most of the time they were better than your own race of people. You'd never tell them that to their faces, but you would be forever grateful for all they've done for you.
"It's only five minutes into your shift, dipshit. You can't handle your usual crowd?"
Ah, good old Ice Wolf. The rowdy and crude older brother you never wanted. You swear he started to stop in more since you started to work here just so he could make your life a living hell. In a good way.
"I don't usually work nights. Especially not on a weekend. So, this crowd is a bit more drunk and chaotic than I'm used to. Plus, I'm jealous because I'm sober."
Laughing so hard, the wolf Monster almost fell out of his chair. Oh yeah, the dickhead was definitely more than a little buzzed. The bitch. It was like he was rubbing it in your face. "Damn. You're always such a riot. You know, I'm starting to think you got yourself a drinking problem."
"This coming from the guy who's been here for all of half an hour and already has six empty bottles of beer on his table?"
"We're focusing on you, not me. And I'm bout to make it seven. Why don't cha go get me another, kitten?"
"Yeah, yeah. I got your fucking kitten, ass wipe."
Walking away from your drunk friend, you smirked to yourself when he finally laughed himself right into a face plant on the floor. You could get used to the night shifts if you weren't such a goddamn alcoholic. You could manage it better now that you were living here in Ebott, however, the issue liked to rear its ugly head when your life took a bitch slap from the universe. That's been the past two months. It felt like repeatedly getting slapped while they wore big rings.
Loading up orders on your tray, your boss waved for you to stay put. Whatever. You weren't ready to go back over to that crowd just yet anyways. Though, you hoped that you would be finished with your shift soon. Despite what Ice Wolf said, you've been there for at least three hours. That's an hour later then what you usually work since it's pretty much dead during the day. You weren't sure entirely sure why you were called in to work tonight and you had plans with what few friends you managed to make soon.
"Well, shit. Look who finally drug his sorry ass back!"
Good natured laughter filled the pub as Ice Wolf greeted whoever came in. Turning to lean your back against the counter, you saw the new customer. A short... skeleton. Like really short. He looked to be about the same height as your little cousin.
"my bro's been ridin' my ass bout stayin healthy and shit. finally got a night off since he's got some important bullshit to do tonight. besides, i wanna see this stray you guys keep tellin' me about."
All eyes turned to you. Yep. You were the aforementioned stray. Hence the nickname they so lovingly gave you. Your boss even got you a collar style choker with a nice name tag that hung off it that said kitten .
"holy shit- hahaha ! y-you all adopted a fuckin' human?!"
"Yeah. And since you weren't here to be a part of that process, you don't get to use the name they picked special just for me."
"that don't break my heart none, sweetheart. i much prefer pickin' out my own special name for ya."
The chorus of wolf whistles and catcalls from the other patrons made you roll your eyes and pick up your tray to get back to work. Until your boss took it from you. Huh. Guess it was quitting time. Finally!
"You got some of the worst luck, buddy. Grillby is closing up early tonight." Burgerpants, one of your favorite regulars, said from his little corner by the door.
"what? you gotta be fuckin' kiddin' me."
"You've been so busy that you forgot what tonight is?"
The skeleton's- Sans' disappointment was replaced with excitement as he realized something about tonight was special. Maybe you should work nights more often so you could get in on the wild times.
"oh hell yeah. now we're talkin' baby."
"Hey kitten! Your little human friends are waiting outside for ya!"
"That would be my ride. Later boss man." Before you could take a step, your very hot boss - both literally and figuratively since he was made of fire - was standing in front of you. "Yes? Can I help you, hot stuff?"
The sound of crackling and popping fire was strung together like a sentence for you. Trying to focus on what Grillby was saying, you couldn't help but overhear the whispers nearby.
"so who translates for her?"
"No one does. We were surprised to find out she just... knows what he says."
"you gotta be pullin' my leg. there ain't no way."
"Are you paying attention?"
"Yeah. Sorry Grillby. That sounds fun. I'm sure they'd love to come along as well."
"wait, wait, wait. hold the fuck up. you seriously can understand him without needin' to be taught how to speak his language?"
"Seems so. Can we go now? I need to get my lips wrapped around a bottle of booze." Grabbing your purse, you walked outside as those drunk idiots loudly celebrated about you joining in their fun. Also to hide your smile. You loved your drunk idiots but you didn't want to let them know that.
