Himiko stood in her research lab, wand in one hand and her mage’s hat in the other. She had a look of complete concentration on her face, her red brows furrowed together as she scrunched her eyes shut. She was practising a new magic spell that she needed her full attention to be performed right. She couldn’t mess this up.
She chanted the words on the spell book, making sure to get the pronunciation right as she awkwardly stood in the middle of the room. As she chanted, a spark of bright pink light began to glow on the tip of her wand. Charging up and getting bigger the more she chanted. Himiko’s hand shook nervously as the spark grew bigger and bigger. She was worried that if something went wrong she would get hurt or die or the room or school would blow up.
She took a deep breath between her chanting to calm her nerves. She continued to chant with the spark getting bigger and brighter. It was almost ready! Himiko would have finally successfully completed a spe- “HEY, HIMIKO!!!” Tenko burst into the room excitedly, dashing towards her. When Himiko heard her voice, she immediately opened her eyes and stopped chanting, breaking the spell.
Suddenly, the spark shot off the tip of the wand and zapped Tenko causing a big puff of pink smoke to fill the room. “Tenko?” Himiko coughed, using her mage’s hat to waft the smoke out of the way before putting it back on her head. Tenko didn’t respond and Himiko couldn’t see her silhouette in the smoke instead she spotted a small blob low down on the ground.
When the smoke subsided, Himiko saw a scraggily little black cat on the floor with a pink headband on its head and all sorts of green and white bows all over its fur. The little cat looked up at Himiko and gave an adorable happy little meow before scurrying towards her and rubbing against her shoes, purring contently.
Himiko stood in complete shock and panic. She looked down at the energetic car at her legs, then at the magic wand in her hands and finally at the place where Tenko once stood. She couldn’t believe it. She had turned Tenko into a cat.
