Sneaking in your bed

Summary:

Suguru feels like he’s going insane.

Usually, he prides himself on being pretty level-headed (or at least he would like others to think so) but recently he thinks any common sense he’s ever had has gone out the window.

It all started a couple days ago, after they finished an overnight mission, exhausted from a day of tracking down curses. So exhausted that as soon as they got back to their rented room they immediately slumped on the floor, claiming they’d ‘get up soon’, which clearly didn’t go to plan as they fell asleep very soon after. Right there on the floor, not even having anything to use as a blanket or a pillow.

That wasn’t unusual for them, sleeping after missions, they’d often take naps on their desks or on a bench after particularly tiring days. However, this time was a little different, while their previous naps had a decent amount of physical distance between them, this time they had somehow ended up practicality face to face. Needless to say, when Suguru woke up to Satoru’s face only inches away from him, he was quite surprised.

- or, a silly little fic inspired by that one phantom parade event where they fall asleep together after a mission

Notes:

HI! I haven't wrote a fanfic in a hot minute so apologies if this is ass, i've been infected with Satosugu brain worms recently so writing for something for them was kinda inevitable. Especially since we've been so fed with hidden inventory content recently, I love student Satosugu they are very important to me. Don't worry, there'll be no angst here.

As said in the description, the idea for this came about when the phantom parade event came out where they fall asleep together on the floor and my imagination turned it into this. It's actually a little funny because in the actual picture of them sleeping they aren't even that close together but we can ignore that!!! gay interpretation is what fanfiction is all about!!!

Initially, I was gonna make this all in one chapter but as I was writing it ended up being a bit bigger then I first thought so i'm splitting it into two!

I actually have sooooo many more little fic ideas for jjk so chances are this might not be the only fic I write, i'm hoping that this little fic can inspire me to write even more.

Anyways! I hope you enjoy this sweet little fic of two dumbasses that are down bad for each other <3

Chapter Text

This is where everything started going wrong for Suguru.

Most people would just move away right? Back away and get on with their day? That's what Suguru thought at first too. He planned to move away as soon as his sleepy brain fog cleared slightly and the consequences from sleeping on the floor made itself apparent in his neck, but for some reason he couldn’t tear his eyes away from Satoru.

Normally, Satoru is like an energetic puppy seeing the world for the first time, excitedly bouncing around, always wanting to do something or go somewhere, Suguru can’t even count on one hand the amount of times Satoru has come knocking on his door demanding entertainment, to which Suguru sighs but then happily obliges. He can’t say he blames him, if he was locked up in a clan all his life he’d probably feel pretty restless too.

This Satoru was very different however, sleeping soundly and quietly snoring. At some point Satoru must’ve remembered to take his glasses off before falling asleep so his ridiculously long eyelashes were on show, somehow looking even more beautiful up close.

To put it simply, Suguru was mesmerised, watching as he steadily breathed, completely at peace.

What am I? Some kind of creep that watches people sleep? Suguru thought to himself, immediately feeling guilty for his new staring problem, though continuing to do so. Sure, it wasn’t hard to understand, objectively Satoru was extremely beautiful, but he hated the thought of ever making Satoru uncomfortable or crossing any boundaries, especially in such a vulnerable state. What would he think if he woke up to see Suguru staring him down?

Suguru’s racing thoughts on if he was a major freak and/or a bad friend were cut off when the cause of his stress began to shift as if waking up. Immediately Suguru shot up into action, quickly sitting up and leaving the room before Satoru could even comprehend he had ever been there or notice their close proximity. Or at least he hoped that was the case, otherwise he’d probably look like even more of a weirdo.

For a while he thought he might be free, so he made his breakfast and continued with his morning routine without any troubles. That was until Shoko informed him that she had walked in on them making the floor their personal bed that morning, and of course she had to take a photo of it too. “I’m building a collection of all your stupidest moments.” she had claimed.

Great. Thanks Shoko.

Luckily, Satoru had managed to stay asleep throughout this conversation or was otherwise elsewhere, if he was present he’d probably beg to see the photo and make some teasing comment on Suguru’s sleeping face. Thankfully Satoru also made no mention of their unusual sleeping arrangement when they began their journey back to Jujutsu High- falling into their usual chatter and banter.

Suguru just hopes he didn’t seem as tense as he felt.

And that basically leads up to now, they’re back to lessons, nothing is different, except for one thing. Suguru can’t stop thinking of that image of Satoru sleeping next to him. This is why Suguru is convinced he’s gone insane.

Sure, the situation was a little awkward maybe, but nothing that couldn’t be laughed off. I mean that’s what most best friends would probably do in that situation right? He knows there’s plenty of friends that innocently sleep next to each other and don’t obsessively think about it. He’s sure that Satoru isn’t having these same thoughts.

He wishes he could talk to someone about this but talking to Satoru is definitely not an option, Shoko would probably just call him an idiot as she so often likes to do and it’s too humiliating to think of going to the first years about this.

So here he is now, lying on his bed, thinking about it yet again.

It feels like with every minute he spends dwelling he realises something new. He realises now that the reason he’s so stuck on the memory isn’t because it was awkward, it's because it was so… well… intimate.

Suguru isn’t unfamiliar to being close to Satoru, especially since the white haired boy has no concept of personal space and would probably drape over Suguru during lessons if Yaga wasn’t there to scold him. He’s also not complaining about it, he finds it quite endearing that Satoru’s way of showing affection is like that of a very needy cat. However, there’s a difference from having Satoru innocently lean against his shoulder while they chat then being inches apart from him and lying together.

The thing is, Satoru is the holder of the six eyes and limitless. He’ll probably be regarded as one of the strongest sorcerers that ever lived, and yet Suguru got to see him at his most vulnerable. Their bodies were so close that even if they were an inch closer their knees and arms would’ve brushed against each other, no infinity there to block them. Infinity didn’t work against Suguru, even in his sleep, that feels pretty major. It was so intimate, and Suguru feels that he wants more of that intimacy.

He wants to always be reminded he has Satoru’s trust, and if he’s letting himself be selfish, getting to look at Satoru’s face is also a big plus. When did he start thinking things like that? He feels his cheeks heating up and shoves a pillow onto his face. This is so not normal.

Of course, Suguru isn’t allowed to have this crisis in peace as a second later he hears a loud banging on his door that can only be one person, followed by “Hey Suguru!! You awake?!”.

If I wasn’t I definitely would be after that banging. Suguru thinks to himself, but he’ll let Satoru off the hook since he feels guilty about the fact he was fawning over him sleeping two seconds ago.

When Suguru opens the door he’s greeted with Satoru’s signature grin, his glasses pushed up to his forehead and having now changed out of his uniform into his comfy clothes. “What's up, Satoru?” Suguru greets him with a soft smile, already making space to invite him inside his room, to which the other obviously accepts and strides in as he has done many times before.

“We’re gonna have a sleepover! Kay?” Satoru explains as he immediately makes himself at home by sitting on Suguru’s bed and stretching his legs. A sleepover? That was new. If one of them got sleepy when they hung out they’d just go back to their respective bedrooms for the night, Suguru can’t help but wonder what inspired the idea.

“Sure” He answers simply while joining Satoru on the bed. “Why though? We’ve never done sleepovers before.”

Satoru shifts a little, averting his eyes “Well that’s why we need to have one! Sleepovers are like a best friend's rite of passage!” he declares “It’s very integral to our friendship Suguru.”. He’s acting confident, like he always does, but Suguru can clearly see that his ears are slightly red. Cute Suguru can’t help but think to himself, trying to hold back his grin, well there’s no way he can say no to him now.

“I guess you’re right, unless you’d count our missions as sleepovers?” Suguru says with a chuckle. Satoru instantly makes a face at that, “No way! Those are different, it’s not a sleepover if it’s in a hotel or whatever, it’s gotta be in our own bedrooms.” Clearly Satoru has some very exact expectations for his sleepovers.

“Hm, are those the rules?” Suguru says just to tease, making Satoru stick out his tongue at him. “Well if we’re having a sleepover what should we do? If I'd known earlier I would’ve gotten some snacks for us.” he questions.

“Oh I've got loads of snacks in my room!” Satoru exclaims, already moving to grab them “And we can uhh… play Digimon!”. Suguru shouldn’t have expected anything else really.

“Fine, but I also want to watch a movie at some point.” It’s not too late and they don’t have any lessons tomorrow so they might as well make the most of it.

“Deal. Just make sure it’s not boring.” Satoru agrees, then runs off to grab his mountain of snacks and ds, the DVD player is still in Suguru’s room from the last time they watched something together so he gets that out ready.

While he waits for Satoru to return Suguru makes himself comfy on the bed, getting the blanket ready for when Satoru inevitably complains about being cold. He can’t lie, having Satoru in his company is making him feel a little better, even if technically if he is the source of his problems in the first place.

For a while he lets his mind wander as he watches Satoru play Digimon, sometimes giving helpful commentary but largely poking fun at Satoru when he dies in a battle to which Satoru whines “So mean Suguru! You’re meant to support me!”. It takes Satoru dying 5 times in a row while trying to complete a boss battle until Suguru suggests that they start watching a movie instead, the other reluctantly agreeing and pouting as he powers his ds off. Always such a sore loser.

They put the DVD player between them, the pair resting against the headboard of the bed side by side with Satoru placing the snacks in his lap. Just as expected, about 20 minutes into watching it Satoru starts feeling cold and wraps the blanket around himself, Suguru truly knows him too well.

The movie is alright, it’s not bad or anything but it’s not amazing either. His and Satoru’s little comments they’ve been making on it are honestly more entertaining. On the whole, he’s having a good time, he finds it easy to enjoy things with Satoru.

After a couple minutes of watching in silence, Suguru feels a weight on his shoulder. Satoru has chosen to make him his personal pillow and rest his head on his shoulder.

This is completely fine.

Suguru turns his head as gently as he can to not disturb Satoru too much, upon looking he sees he’s not asleep but his eyelids are definitely drooping.

“Satoru? You tired?” Suguru asks as gently as possible, careful to not jolt him.

“Mm.” Satoru replies intelligently while hiding in the crook of Suguru’s neck, he’s probably about 5 seconds from falling asleep now.

The black haired student sighs, well I guess he’s lost the privilege to his bed now, there’s no moving Satoru when he’s like this. Stubborn bastard.

“Alright, take the bed then, I'll set up on the floor I guess.”

“No.” Satoru suddenly declares, using his arm to guard Suguru from getting up. “It’s a sleepover… gotta share…” he mumbles tiredly and covers himself even further in the blankets.

Oh. So they’re having that kind of sleepover.

This really isn’t going to end well given his current crisis. The dorm beds are very small, especially for two people as tall as them. If they ended up side by side on an open floor he doesn’t even know how they might end up after sleeping on the same bed. He might just die on the spot when he wakes up.

Though practically, it kinda is the best option. He’s not exactly raring to sleep on the floor again, his neck has only just recovered.

Fuck it. He’ll do it.

“Right- Um, yes. Ok. Let’s lie down then.” he eventually manages to get out, if Satoru wasn’t half asleep already he’d never hear the end of this.

Unfortunately, Satoru takes this as a sign to move his head off Suguru's shoulder and instead rolls over to face the wall. Suguru would be lying if he said he wasn’t a little disappointed, but whatever.

As the Six Eyes holder seems to be drifting off, Suguru turns off the DVD player and the lamp on his bed side table before lying down himself, back to back with the other boy on his bed.

He can do this, they’re just sleeping next to each other, nothing crazy. Just don’t think about the fact their backs are pressing together.

“G’night Suguru…” he hears quietly from behind him. His heart flutters a little.

“Goodnight, Satoru.” Suguru replies with a small smile on his face.

Suguru is completely and utterly fucked.
