Welcome to Demon School, Naru-nim!

Summary:

Fredo Von Ejellan was not a good father, but that's because he wasn't a father in the first place. But when his 'son' came to life and claimed to be a human in the past, what was the first thing he did?

Send him to school! (After a period of adjustment)

Chapter Text

Kim Rok Soo is a man who always adapts, he would just blink in a situation where normal people would've been shocked and desperate, maybe even go insane.

In a similar fashion, he could only blink at the man in front of him. The man had silver hair and purple eyes, he had long ears and extremely pale skin just like how vampires were described in fantasy novels he often read in the past, the man was extremely tall or maybe he was just small? He felt small. The man's eyes looked down at him—literally and figuratively—identifying if he was a threat.

Obviously, Kim Rok Soo was doing the same thing. Vampires are bloodsucking creatures after all and he has a lot to give if the amount he bleeds out in the battlefield and still feel fine has anything to say about it. Although, judging by the vampire's extremely fancy outfit, Rok Soo thought that this vampire would be civilized enough to not attack him and chomp down on his neck.

Deciding both of them were not a threat to each other, their wary gazes lessened but haven't disappeared.

The vampire opened his mouth, starting the conversation(interrogation) after realizing that Kim Rok Soo was not much of a talker. "Do you know where you are?"

Rok Soo soon scanned the room he was in; it was extremely luxurious albeit a little ... old-fashioned? "I am assuming that I am in your house, sir."

The vampire was amused at this intruder. "Ho! Alright then, do you know how you got here?"

Judging by the question, Rok Soo immediately deduced that this vampire might have quite a high status as the tone of his question is the same as "Don't you know who I am?" in addition, houses like these are extremely expensive and probably destroyed due to the apocalypse. Most houses are destroyed nowadays, but they were slowly rebuilding some for shelter.

Looking directly at the vampire in front of him—it might've been a bad idea as vampires in fiction is capable of brainwashing—he answered. "No."

Because there's a literal vampire in front of him and the fact that he's in this room, he assumed he might be in a different era heck, maybe even a different world by this point and he can't do anything about it as this man is the only one who has any information outside this room so he decided to be as honest as possible.

"Have you looked in the mirror?"

Now that causes his eyebrow to raise a bit. Why the hell would he look in the mirror? He has no need to see his ugly scars, he understands they're disgusting, no need to rub it in his face.

As if answering to his confusion, the vampire handed him a mirror lined with not silver, but with bronze and what met him were not his reddish-brown eyes, it was purple ones followed with extremely pale skin and few strands of silver hair that wasn't tucked behind his ears. His(?) ears that were long. Like the vampire that gave him this mirror.

What the fuck.

Looking at the adult vampire in front of him, he desperately searched his brain for answers.

He couldn't have been turned, if he was turned, he wouldn't have become a vampire child that looked exactly like the other vampire in front of him.

Closing his eyes, he came to the only explanation he could find.

"I'm ... Sorry?" He tried his best to sound genuine, but he was so confused and he only realized the pitch of his voice at this moment.

"My, my ... Whatever are you apologizing for?" The man grinned. To Rok Soo, that grin seemed to convey that the vampire wanted to keep this as civilized as possible and he felt horrible, he can only guess that he is inhabiting the body of the vampire's son as he immediately noticed that it wasn't him.

"For taking over your son’s body ... I have no idea on how to bring him back … I only woke up like this." Rok Soo looked down bracing for death—not really, he's certain this vampire won't harm the body of his child—as the vampire now knew how extreme the situation is.

But what met him was laughter, a dignified but genuine laughter.

"Child, I don't have a son. Well, I do, but he's fake. The body you're inhabiting is my form when I was 153 years old!" The vampire looked at him like he was a child being silly but he didn't feel annoyed like he usually would, he felt glad that he didn't take a child away from his parent. No one deserves that, especially if the parents are good.

Now this was the moment that was supposed to end with awkward silence because of the obvious misunderstanding, but the vampire knew exactly how to continue the conversation like he was a natural at it.

"I am Duke Fredo Von Ejellan, do you have anything specific you want to be called by?"

Kim Rok Soo looked at the vampire noble named Fredo and thought back to his life back on Korea.

Thinking back, he didn't have anything to miss; except maybe his team and how they would fair without him. It's not like he can go back without the intervention of divine beings or even demons, so he can just chuck the idea of getting back out the window.

Rok Soo shook his head.

"Really? That's weird, you don’t seem like someone who just appeared out of nowhere, no life before now? Nothing to go back to?"

Pausing to think again, he did have something to go back to; but that's just his job and he doubted people will actually miss him, maybe some people would for a while but eventually he would just be a grave along with countless others.

"It doesn't matter."

Fredo smiles slyly. "Ah, so you did have a life before this."

Annoyed, Rok Soo knew exactly where this man was getting at. He's asking for more details while asking questions as if he knew the answer even if he didn't.

He sighed, knowing he can't do anything about it nor can he avoid answering because he is literally at the mercy of the vampire.

"I was called Kim Rok Soo in my past life. I was human, but like I said; it doesn't matter."

Luckily for him, he didn't find the need to hide his past nor did he desperately want to go back there, sure he was worried for his team; but they can adapt without him, they wouldn't be on his team if they couldn't also, the monsters on Earth were starting to dwindle, it won’t be long before they’re gone for good. Besides, it's about time he gets his slacker life.

--

To say that Fredo was shocked was an understatement. He was mind-boggled, flabbergasted, bewildered. Heck, every word that relates to those words in the thesaurus was what he was feeling multiplied by 10.

Who wouldn't be when they see their younger self and said self knew nothing of who or where they are and how they got here.

He thought they might've been a spy or even an illusion.

But after several tests and questions—with weird and out-of-this-world answers—he could only think it was the Gods' doing as no one else can give life to something that doesn't exist.

He didn't know what God is insane enough to do such a thing, but whoever they are, he knew there was nothing that can be beneficial from this as gods literally cannot watch over dark creatures.

He was sure a demon didn't do this. He would've known. Not to brag but, Sullivan would most definitely complain about some demon kidnapping humans and turning them into vampires.

Who's Sullivan? You might ask. Well...just a friend of his.

Back to the topic in hand, it seems he now has an actual son to dote over. And he would, now that he got a general idea of his 'son's' personality.

The boy asked Fredo to call him by the name of the body he's inhabiting as he held no attachments to his old life and Fredo understood why. When Rok Soo first got to his office by a flash of light he was sleeping, and yet as he slept; he was guarded. Ready to stand at a moment's notice. It was a habit often seen in experienced knights.

Fredo could tell that this boy lived a tough life and so he decided to give him the name, Naru. Naru Von Ejellan. Officially announcing the stranger as his son.

Fredo didn't mind how Naru still seemed guarded as it takes a while to gain a trust of a knight when they feel threatened. So, he let him adjust, gave him a room as he did not seem ready to be in Fredo's constant presence.

He let the servants know that his 'son' was back from the villa and that his condition worsened so he had to isolate him so it won't get worse. Normally, he won't go through such lengths; but whenever 'Naru' visits he always greeted the servants.

Obviously, he can't do that to the kid, he just got here and probably might act hostile when put under pressure, Fredo doubts it, but you can never be too sure so he decided to only reintroduce 'Naru' to the people once he's more comfortable.

Slowly, but surely. Kim Rok Soo had fully accepted himself as Naru and now goes out and greets people nicely without Fredo's guidance, turns out Rok Soo is actually nice—he claims he's only nice to people because it feels rude not to greet someone who is looking at him like an excited puppy—and his good acting skills helped him even if he was too annoyed to be in someone's presence.

He got even comfortable enough to start coming to Fredo's office when he's not busy at the library reading books. Which was a hobby he always had, he just now had the time to actually read a lot, history, novels, theories, information, anything he could get his hands on. Heck, he'll read people's profiles if he's really bored.

And as long as he was nice to people, he would receive gifts from them even if he refused—not that he did most of the time. Why would he refuse free stuff?—in short, life was good. It was really close to his dream of being a slacker, if he asked nicely, Fredo would let him isolate himself in his room which he greatly appreciates.

"Say ... How do you like it here?" Fredo asks one day as he was looking through the paperwork in his desk.

"Hmm, I really like it here if I'm being honest." Naru answered, these past few months there was no one he trusted more than Fredo, albeit he could be a little annoying with his doting sometimes—he still can't grasp the fact Fredo actually cherishes him like his actual son and thinks he's acting for the public. Fredo doesn't often breach his personal space in private as he respects Naru's privacy.

Fredo winced. "Ah ... I was thinking about sending you to school so you won't have to deal with my dangerous 'boss' who you have to pretend to be your most favorite person in the world."

Now that sounds like something Naru would hate, but he hated schools as well; he didn't remember having a good experience with schools in his previous life. The thought of leaving this house which grew to be his place of comfort just to go back to do something as troublesome as going to school makes want to lock himself in the library and read the 9,639 books he still hasn't read.

"While I know you might hate this ... but I don't really want you near that White Star. Maybe I can make school sound enticing instead?" Fredo knew that if neither option benefitted Naru, he would just take the third way out, no matter what. But he really thinks Naru won't hate going to Babylys too much. Besides, school was better than the White Star. A man that even he, Fredo Von Ejellan is wary of.

Naru looked at him warily. "Try me."

"Okay so first off; the school is in the demon world—now I know that sounds bad already; but most demons aren't really bad as they value human lives and if a human were to roam the demon world they would be safely be escorted out—" he immediately explained as humans have these misconceptions about demons or even any other dark creatures. Well, most humans.

Naru, of course knew this. Like humans, any other creature has their own group of bad guys and since they stand out more that's what they stereotype the others with. He was now sure of this after meeting most of the dark creatures in the Endable Kingdom.

"Second?" He urged his father to continue.

"Well ... It's not like you would be gone for long, after graduating you could go back here as you would be strong enough. In addition, you won't have to play nice as demons don't care about that." Fredo knew Naru wouldn't care about the latter part as much but he was aware that his son felt extremely weak and fragile if the number of times the boy asked for him to teach him magic says anything.

Fredo did of course, it's just that he wasn't cut out to be a teacher as Naru didn't understand him despite him being extremely intelligent.

Naru wouldn't have normally bothered learning this as he only wants a slacker life. But 2 sentences made him have the need to prepare. Western Continent and Forest of Darkness.

Now if he remembered correctly—which he did—that’s where the protagonist of the novel he read before his death was currently residing.

Deducing that the White Star is the leader of this group called Arm—he is certain because he saw one of the reports given to his father was an order for the Arm to send a dragon egg to the Stan's—and the fact that his father is working for the bastard? It is going to be a death flag for this Kingdom. Who knows how sane Choi Han would be when he gets to this place?

Not that Naru wanted anything to do with the guy, it's just that their confrontation was inevitable if he was planning on staying here. Which he will. Don't you know how rich Duke Fredo is? And yes, the creature he calls 'Dad' is a Duke and apparently, extremely rich.

Naru assumed he has around 4-6 years left before confrontation as the Black Dragon that Choi Han killed was said to be 4 years old. By that time, he needed to prove that he was on Choi Han's side, or at least protect himself and people he cherishes from one of his blows in order to convince him and for that, he needed to prepare, and if a demon school was the key, then so be it.

He sighed. The things he needed to do in order to live peacefully.

"Alright ... When do I leave?" He asked as he rubbed his eyes in frustration which made him look adorable due to his stature.

Fredo smiled, relieved that the White Star won't have to interact with his son. He was fine dealing with that bastard by himself. "Tomorrow ... I know it seems a bit too soon, but that's when school starts, I only know because the principal went to me to brag about his new grandson and told him I got a son as well.”

Fredo lifted Naru up by his shoulders so they would be on the same level. “He told me that if you wanted to go to school, I'd just ask him."

Naru groaned, he didn't like being rushed. "Do I need to pack?"

Fredo shook his head before letting Naru down and patting his head. "No, Sullivan will provide you with whatever you'll need, but feel free to bring anything you would like, I suggest to pack lightly though.”

"Mhm, alright." Naru nodded, pushing his head to Fredo's hand subconsciously. He knew he was going to miss this old man, despite being an annoyance. But it's not like he would admit it, ever. As for the packing, he didn't necessarily need to pack something maybe blood or that coat Fredo gave him around the first time he got here.

Ah speaking of blood, he drinks that now. If you told him 4 months ago that he would be drinking blood and going back to school, he would've thought you were insane and he would make your life miserable just by suggesting the idea.

He doesn't constantly drink like depicted in fiction though. Just when he uses mana as he can't generate his own like vampires depicted in fiction. Well, they technically can, it just drains their life force and they can't recover said life force because they're literally creatures of the dark.

"Demons, huh. Do demons normally interact with vampires?" He couldn't help but asked.

Fredo thought for a moment. "No, not unless they're part demon or made a contract with a demon."

Naru looked at him incredulously, there was no way he would bound himself into a contract, that was not how Fredo was. He didn't like being held back, that was exactly why he hated the White Star.

Looking at Naru, Fredo only smiled and shrugged.

No, no, old man, answer me. If you're part demon then I'm part demon- this isn't the time to be joking around!-

He could only glare at the old man.

Fredo looked away from him. "Oh! Would you look at the time! It's time to meet some of those nobles who are most definitely looking for ways to destroy me! How it pains me to leave you when you're leaving tomorrow!" And as quickly as he said that, he was just as quick to the door.

"I will be seeing you again tomorrow, okay?" He quickly followed; he really was in a rush as he actually forgot about the meeting. Normally he would skip, but the White Star would be there today, and him not attending will cause suspicion.

Naru sighed. "Okay ... Have fun."

Fredo just left the room with a scoff. Have fun? How can he when there's a threat in his territory?

"Demons ... It feels weird how I'm going to go to the territory of creatures that were often depicted as the villains in most novels … Then again, I am a vampire." Naru said to himself as he lay down on the couch. The rate of how quick he is adapting is scary, even to himself. He just never had the time to think about it back in his previous world.

He sighed. He didn't want to admit it, but if he was given a chance to go back to Korea now, he won't take it, he liked it here. And who knows? He might like school too.

Naru shook his head. “What a scary thought, no one likes school.”

Chapter 2

Notes:

Added some of Iruma's thoughts, probably the only time I'll do so since I want to focus more on Naru :>

Also, I mostly write at like- 3am so please tell me if there are mistakes, thanks!

Chapter Text

Naru looked at the tall bald imposing figure with yellow horns on his head. Yep. This person was definitely a demon. Even though his white handlebar mustache made him seem a little friendly along with his silly outlook, but it doesn't hide the fact that he radiates this strong presence.

"Naru, this is Sullivan. Sullivan, my son." Fredo introduced patting Naru's back as he did, he sensed that he was a little tense at the presence of another powerful person.

"Oh, would you look at that, you look exactly like Fredo here. You and my cute grandson would get along just well!" Sullivan said. Immediately, Naru felt a sense of understanding for this grandson of this person. A doting parental figure too huh?

Naru felt a little more relax now that he knew that Sullivan and Fredo were so alike.

The two tall figures talked for a bit, catching up as they hadn't seen each other in a while; apparently Sullivan decided to sign a contract with humans that were willing to sell their child after finding out that Naru materialized out of thin air. It was simply not fair for Fredo to have an actual son when Sullivan himself doesn't have a grandson to dote over.

Of course, this was kidnapping and Naru knew that very well. He also knows that humans that were willing to sell their own child is more cruel than literal demons, and Sullivan seems like the person who would allow the child to go back to his world if he didn't really like the demon world.

It was the same for him and Fredo, the vampire did nothing to force him to stay here, and Naru thought that maybe Fredo was afraid that he wanted to go back to his old life.

Besides, if Sullivan was really such a person that will forcibly hold someone against their own will then Fredo wouldn't be so close to him.

Saying their goodbyes, Sullivan opened a portal.

"Make sure to visit on weekends or at least call okay ... we don't want you picking the demon world over me alright?" Fredo asked teasingly, his hands firmly on Naru's shoulders.

"Don't be so dramatic, of course I'll come back from time to time. When I'm not busy."

With that the two enter the portal, leaving behind Fredo who looked a little sad as he placed a hand over his chest.

Is this what parents feel when they let their children out of their sight, willingly? It sucks.

The constant worry he was starting to feel. What if the portal was defective? What if Naru doesn't adapt? What if the demons play too harsh? It's not that he didn't trust Sulli, heck, he trusts that demon with his life, but he can't help the worry about the boy.

It's just been 4 months since his arrival and he was already fretting this much.

Get yourself together, Fredo.

-

When Suzuki Iruma woke up early this morning, he thought being sold to a demon was just a horrible dream, because there was no way that his parents would do that right? Or at least, that's what he thought but it was immediately rebutted when demon creatures outside the mansion screeched to wake him up fully.

He swears he's going to have a panic attack in this place. Noticing that he wore pajamas, he wondered where the demon that 'adopted' him was at now.

And just as that thought crosses his mind, the unnecessarily large doors opened to reveal said demon, and he brought another boy with him. Said boy also looked like a demon, with his silver hair, captivating purple eyes that can probably brainwash him, extremely pale skin and long ears just like his 'grandfather' he deduced that this boy was clearly another demon.

Iruma noted that the boy was wearing some sort of uniform ... or at least tried to, as the blazer was hung on the boy's shoulder as if it was a cape. He looked at the older demon questioningly.

"Good morning Iruma-kun! Meet Naru, he is like ... a distant cousin. Anyway! He will be with you in school! Now isn't that great?" Sullivan said, he was actually really excited.

"Haha ... yeah-" Wait- what school? School here? As in a demon school????

He looked at the boy in hopes of his questions being answered, but the stoic boy only shrugged; as if he was dragged into this as well.

By the snap of Sullivan's fingers, Iruma was changed into a uniform exactly like the boy was wearing but he wore it correctly along with a red tie, looking around he could see that he was surrounded with school supplies and couldn't help but feel overwhelmed.

"Didn't you ... give me a lot of stuff yesterday?" Iruma can't help but feel hesitant.

"Silly child, that was your personal belongings! This is your school supplies!" Sullivan replied, clapping his hands and handing Iruma a bag.

"Now off we go! Wouldn't want to be late now, would we?"

Without further notice, both Iruma and the boy which was now his 'distant cousin' were being dragged to school. Everything seemed too fast for Iruma as he now found himself in front of the school with a sign right behind him and his 'grandfather' beside him and a little creature(?) Holding a camera was taking pictures of them.

"Naru don't you want to join?" Sullivan asked the boy that kept his distance as to not disrupt the photo, he only replied by shaking his head 'no'.

"Ah right! Before I forget!" Sullivan said, snapping his fingers. Iruma almost immediate felt what changed as he can now read the sign he couldn't understanding before. Naru seemed to be able to do it as well, the spell was for the both of them.

After a few seconds Sullivan push both of them through the school and now both boys found themselves seated with the crowd.

'This is fine.' Iruma thought to himself, even though he was scared shitless.

Naru, noticing his fear awkwardly patted his back. As if letting him know nothing bad will happen to him. Yet.

Nothing bad will happen to him yet. Because he's in the demon world, and if they found out he's human then he'll get eaten!

Although, looking at the place; this just seems like a normal school of you ignore the people's appearances. Iruma decided that if he didn't attract attention then he should be fine.

"Something smells delicious." A demon beside Iruma said, making him tremble a bit more.

'I'm going to die!' he thought to himself as he looked down on his shaking hands.

Meanwhile Naru deduced that even if Iruma smelled a little bit like a human, it might've been because of him that the smell was enhanced as he came from a different realm where humans (black mages) were living in. Not to mention, the White Star was human.

Poor kid. He probably feels like a rabbit in a lion's den.

Of course, Naru feels threatened as well, but a lot of the demons here aren't nearly as strong as his father nor Sullivan. If there's anyone that comes close to those two, it’s all the teachers combined, and sadly; they still wouldn't survive if Sullivan and Fredo took them seriously.

The atmosphere turned more suffocating once they started singing the school's anthem.

'I definitely must not attract attention to myself ...!!' Iruma thought as he felt numb, he wished he was air right about now. All humans are souls for us to eat??? Their blood and meat must be completely devoured?!?! Yeah, Iruma swears he will not stand out.

Naru, in turn; was also terrified. Who the fuck would orchestrate this song? Especially if demons don't actually do this?

Distracting both of them from their thoughts was the voice calling out for the Principal. The identity of the person peaked both of their interests.

"Iruma-kun, your grandpa is here!" Sullivan announced, his goofy figure seen on the front. He continued to brag about Iruma in front of the crowd and even showed the picture they took earlier—Naru was slightly glad he didn't agree to be in the photo—and even offered to distribute copies for everyone later.

Naru looked at Iruma, said blue haired boy was having a mental breakdown. Condolences Iruma.

The voices of the other students looking for the principal's grandson seemed to make him panic more so Naru continued to pat his back as he tried to make himself smaller to hide himself.

"And next is ... the freshmen representative will make his speech."  As that was being said, a demon with light pink hair and magenta eyes was making their way to the stage. He wore a different set of uniform and was tall and proud—Seriously, is everyone taller than Naru nowadays? —and many demons were looking at him with admiration.

Iruma can't help but feel glad that the attention was turning to the newcomer.

"Asmodeus-kun leave the speech to Iruma-kun."

WhAT-

Iruma looked over to his 'grandfather' who had his camera ready and wow, he really shouldn't be surprised by now. It seems everything in the world was out to get him now. Except Naru, Naru seems nice.

Sulking and shaking in fear, Iruma made his way over to the stage.

The crowd seemed to be judging him and Naru can't help but scoff at some of the comments before shaking his head. These people were children. They don't know how underestimating someone could lead to their downfall, and no, don't just assume just because his family is strong that would mean he is also strong. Naru, himself was a good example of this. His body is literally just his father's when he was 153 years old and even if he can grasp how magic works properly, he wouldn't even be as strong as Fredo's pinky.

And no, what do you mean he isn't anxious? The poor child is shaking.

Taking a deep breath, Iruma started his speech.

"Aberuhauke" Immediately the crowd tensed, what is with this reaction? It seems like what Iruma said was bad, but why aren't they stopping him? Is it forbidden or some basic courtesy of demon common sense? Naru couldn't tell why but the crowd was clearly terrified.

"Tarutodari ... Iusabebe ... Risutoru ... Aburuze ... Sutomanu ... Aberuge ... Urumahoraba ... Tsurezaza." Almost immediately he was met with cheering.

Naru can't help but cringe at how quickly the people's opinions changed because of a few words that he couldn't even understand. Maybe it was demon common sense, he didn't know. What he did know what he needed to look for the library after this. Reacting a certain way or even not reacting a certain way might reveal that they're not demons—Naru might get away with it, but Iruma sure won't—every information he can get is necessary.

Speaking of Iruma, where is he?

Naru looked around and found that the blue haired kid had disappeared with the crowd the moment he finished his speech. Shaking his head, he tried to find the kid. For someone who's afraid to get eaten, he sure does roam freely in a place filled with the creatures he is afraid to get eaten by.

Sensing the commotion from the distance he tried to see what was going on, unfortunately there were simply too many people to see what was going on, instead he heard what was happening.

"The top student and the honor student are killing each other in the schoolyard!"

Excuse me, what?

"An interesting match! I wonder who will die?"

Pardon?

Naru found himself weaving through the crowd to take a look and he immediately felt tired. Iruma attracted trouble just like how Choi Han would and he didn't want to deal with this today, seriously? On the first day and you already got himself in a fight? With a freaking top student?

Luckily, Iruma was holding out fine. In fact, he was doing fantastic. He didn't get hit at all. His evasion skills were almost inhumane, Naru knew this because even back in his previously life; no one dodged this well and he lived in an apocalyptic world.

Just like Naru, majority of the students were also impressed. To them, it seemed like Iruma was looking down on the student—with the name Naru didn't bother to listen to—he was fighting. To the other students, Iruma was clumsily dodging as mockery of his opponent, but to Naru? Iruma seemed like he was dodging for his life. In a world full of danger, sometimes you don't have the privilege to dodge and look cool. Sometimes the only thing that mattered was to survive.

Naru contemplated helping Iruma as the situation seemed to be getting worse with the 'audience' triggering the pink guy, but before he can even think of a plan, the fight was finished with a- wait is that a German Suplex?!

Iruma looked so panicked after with the unconscious demon that he carried(dragged) him to the infirmary, Naru of course, helped since even though he might look like a 12-year-old child, his physical strength could rival his strength back in his previous life. Back to the topic, after they carried the demon to the infirmary, they immediately went to see Sullivan.

Only to find out that there was already a newspaper dedicated to Iruma's action as of today. Well, that's not Naru's problem now, is it? Surveying the room, he noticed books and quietly asked Sullivan if he can read some.

Sullivan agreed, patting his head—why? Naru was just going to read books…—before going back to being proud of his grandson.

After a few more minutes, the door was slammed open to reveal the demon from earlier. Iruma immediately panicked as he backed away from the demon.

"A-Asmodeus ..."

Ah, so that was his name. Noted.

Asmodeus kneeled in front of Iruma saying some non-sense about being his servant—wait what?

Is this some sort of demon common sense that Naru still hasn't learned yet? This is why you give information on what to expect before you throw us in a lion's den, Sullivan.

Naru looked pointedly at Sullivan, hoping the old man could understand what his gaze meant. Said old man only shrugged and smiled, he probably did understand, he just wanted to piss Naru off.

His eye twitched, Sullivan and Fredo. Both are very similar even down to how they annoy people.

He could only sigh as he tuned out what was happening in the room about 'ruling over the school' as he went back to reading the book. The book that he doesn't understand the context of.

Don't get him wrong, he could read it just fine. It's just he doesn't know what it means. It's learning literally any language for the first time, you can read the word but you don't understand what the word means. Not to mention, he needs to learn the context of sentences. Like the sentence "break a leg!", to a non-English speaker; they would think it was meant to hurt them whereas an English speaker would immediately understand that it means "good luck!".

Basically, Naru and Iruma lack common sense. The same problem Naru faced in his first months as a vampire, no doubt if they didn't learn fast, they'd be considered as idiots.

He sighed as he looked back at the people who were being so loud, he nods to himself knowing they probably won't help him. He quietly exits the room as to not disturb their plans of world domination, but not before cringing at Sullivan; who was planning on uploading Iruma's photos to the school's website—wait there's social media here? Haven't seen that in a while.

Shaking his head he continued on his journey to find a library in hopes on finding children's books.

Sorry this one is a bit short :(

Chapter Text

The next morning Iruma was greeted by his grandfather after waking up from a bad dream about his parents—he won't call it a nightmare as it actually happened—and invited him over for breakfast. Iruma noticed that Naru was already there waiting and with a new book that seemed to be a little childish.

If Iruma was being honest, he really doesn't want to go back to that school and so he decided to bring it up to Sullivan. Or so he tried, he didn't get the chance as Sullivan snapped his fingers making a new set of school supplies appear and congratulated him on being admitted to school. It's not like Iruma can suggest leaving the school if Sullivan was this proud on him being able to get in. And so, sitting beside Naru; he sulked as he ate.

Naru, meanwhile was amused as he reads and occasionally brings the spoon over to his mouth to eat. Did Sullivan have a gift for Naru too?

Of course, Sullivan did. Naru was up early, exploring the seemingly unending mansion when Sullivan stopped him from getting lost and gave him his gift. There was favoritism but Sullivan wasn’t unfair; besides, Naru guessed he was probably like a nephew to him.

Sullivan knew that Naru didn't like getting attention even from him and Iruma, so he just quietly gave Naru his gift, patted his head, then walked him over to the dining room.

Naru appreciated the gesture as he wore a blood red ring on his finger that one of the gifts, a ring that can store blood—don’t ask him how, he doesn’t know that yet—and the question of where Sullivan got the blood or what the blood is; he wouldn't ask. It's something he learned to avoid as a vampire.

Sullivan also understood his intentions yesterday and gave him children's books even some advanced ones, and magic items that he probably won't be able to use yet because he knows little about the subject.

Why didn't he get the same gifts as Iruma, you may ask. Well, he did, Iruma got some books that he might understand and appreciate, disguised magic items with Sullivan's mana—since Iruma doesn't have any—and some clothes.

Sullivan simply knew what both of them would need and how they would appreciate it. What a good person(demon) in Naru's opinion, although he can be a little annoying at times. Just like Fredo.

… Naru feels like he’s forgetting something.

Anyway, Naru noticed that Sullivan liked to tease Iruma more by bragging about the kid in public. All parents or grandparents probably have that. Fredo may not have noticed it or maybe he did, but he does it too.

After the finished eating, Naru noticed that no one walks to school.

If Iruma didn't want to stand out any more than he did then he should start flying to school… but since he's human, he can't do that. Naru can probably do that since vampires can shapeshift, he just doesn't know how yet.

Naru decided he will walk with the kid until he gets used to the demon world or at least, until he gets someone else to walk with him, somehow. A lot of demons seem to be very lazy.

When they got to school, Iruma was immediately greeted by a kneeling Asmodeus. Of course, Naru tried to leave as he doesn't want to be near the lunatic. A lunatic, because he found out that the rule of being the servant of the winner of a duel was extremely outdated. Who would even be insane enough to serve someone they got beaten up by?

Naru can’t help but be reminded of a minor scene at The Birth of a Hero, where Choi Han beats up a drunkard noble after he insulted his village.

Cale Henituse was the name of the beaten-up trash, and Naru is positive that Cale wouldn’t serve Choi Han, you know, normal person things, something Asmodeus isn’t.

He was nearly out of sight when he was stopped by the lunatic.

"You! You came with Iruma-sama, are you also his servant?"

Naru lightly bit his tongue and nodded. This was slightly amusing and he can't help but want to tease Iruma too. Bowing down a 90° angle to Iruma, he quickly walked out of the scene; looking at Iruma's betrayed face and hearing students spread the rumor of the honor student having 2 servants already.

Although, it was probably a bad idea leaving them as he knew nothing about the events of the school but what's done is already done so he just resorted to following the majority of the students which led him to a large room.

He was just in time too, because right after he entered the room and hiding himself in the crowd; an imposing figure slammed the door open.

Seriously what is with people and slamming doors dramatically often? He might do it himself one day. For research purposes.

The demon introduced himself as Naberius Kalego after the room was silenced, he then continued on to state why he was chosen for this task and how he won't hesitate to expel anyone who are "unrecyclable trash", you know; like every strict teacher in many stories that he’s read back at Fredo’s library. You’d be surprised how much story books he has over there.

There are 2 types of strict teachers, the bastards and the bastards that are good at what they do. Either way, he really hopes Kalego won't be his teacher. Although said demon seemed capable; he didn't want to be expelled when he performs poorly—when, because he is a vampire.

Kalego pulled out a guide board, a really cute looking one and the moment the thing was nearly done, Kalego smashed the poor thing to the ground. Do you have some sort of grudge against cute things?

"Stupid guide ... I have drawn my demonic symbol on this parchment. If there are some 'aliens' mingling within our community, we will recognize them right away." He said as he looked at Iruma, said human somehow ended up next to Naru. Seriously, you attract too much attention Iruma, stay away, and Naru means that in the most inoffensive way possible.

He went on to explain further information about familiars—which thankfully, Naru already knows the basic concept of as he read about it in a children's book—before telling them to line up.

"What's up with him? It's like he's trying to pick a fight with us." Asmodeus remarked, Naru can't help but silently agree. But that's because of the 'alien' part, he doesn't know what will come out once he or Iruma tries to summon a familiar.

"Do you want me to use a special method and kick his ass?" "No!"

'It's actually for the best Iruma, you should let Asmodeus beat him.' he thought as he looked at Iruma with a pointed gaze.

"We are not beating anyone up!" Iruma exclaimed at the both of them and he received a deadpan look from Naru. 'Obviously were not beating anyone up, we’re weaker than most humans in my world—' and by that he means the world of The Birth of a Hero.

"I SAID LINE UP! ARE YOU DEAF?"

Iruma pushed the 2 in the line as to not aggravate the teacher more.

-

After a while, it was Asmodeus' turn, by now everyone had a creature by their side and Naru didn't like the way they were treating them. According to the books, familiars were some sort of lesser demons or magical beast that were like subordinates. Sure, they can't disobey you, that's why demons tend to treat them like servants; but it feels wrong to treat them like that. It's like trying to domesticate a wild free animal. Instead, what masters should do is build trust, treating the familiars as subordinates.

Distracting Naru from his thoughts was Asmodeus calling out for Iruma to show off his familiar, before he knew it; it was Naru's turn.

He didn't know what will come out, but he confidently walked up to the summoning circle; pricking his fingers.

Naru can only click his tongue, he didn’t like pain.

He started drawing on the parchment with his blood, he then proceeded to burn it on the candle as the smoke arises, he couldn't help but feel excited on what would come out.

But the smoke continued to grow bigger and bigger until it was bigger than the summoning circle and completely engulfing him. What met him inside the smoke was red eyes, red eyes that made him remember a word from his mother tongue. "Mium ..." was the only thing he said as he looked at eyes that were the size of his hand. It seemed angry; its eyes were filled with hate as it glowed.

It took a moment for Naru to realize that the word he blurted out was Korean for ‘Hate’.

He was too stunned by the creature before him as he remained standing. To the demons around him, he looked like he was establishing his dominance.

Little by little, the smoke clears to reveal a huge red dragon. It seemed to have shrunken itself so it wouldn't crowd the room but it was still much bigger than Asmodeus' Gorgon snake.

Murmurs were heard across the room, a Gorgon snake was good, but a dragon? Dragons were proud creatures. They would never serve anyone, at least, they thought. It wasn't unheard of as it happened once before, but to have a dragon it must mean that the summoner was qualified in its eyes.

"Hey, isn't that guy Iruma's servant too?" "Yeah! If Iruma can beat someone worthy for a dragon then wouldn't that mean that Iruma can summon something even greater?"

Haha ... Whoops ... Sorry, Iruma.

Naru apologetically looked at the blue haired boy, he knew how much Iruma didn't want to stand out but he didn't know that the joke he made about being his servant was going to bring more attention to him.

He sighed, unaware of the gaze of a certain teacher. 'A dragon ... even better than Asmodeus … And yet he also serves under that brat? Just how strong is he?’ Kalego thought as he wrote the boy's estimated rank—since the ranking owl is the only one that can officially rank a student.

Kalego called over the brat since he was the last one, he knew that one mistake could cost him being expelled. But when the brat started smiling like the damn stupid principal his eye twitched, the audacity.

'Blame yourself for being his proud grandson.' he thought, irritation visible on his face.

As light engulfed everyone, and Kalego suddenly found himself in front of Iruma ... or at least half of him.

WHAT.

Naru couldn't help but snort quietly. Of course, humans would summon a demon, especially if it has their seal on it. It didn’t come to his mind as it had been so long since he had read fiction from his previous world.

Everything went to chaos as Iruma pushed Kalego's bottom half up the portal and what met them was cute fluffy chick.

Wow, if you hate cute things sir, then you just became the very thing you hate.

The other students assumed that Iruma made Kalego his familiar because he got mad at him earlier, but it was because Iruma was actually human and Kalego's seal was used. But alas, it seemed Iruma accidentally made himself even more popular.

Later, both Kalego and Iruma asked the principal to cancel the contract but found that it cannot be done. Kalego spent the next few days bedridden.

The students completely forgetting about Asmodeus' Gorgon snake and Naru's Red Dragon, because apparently, summoning another demon as your familiar is more powerful in their eyes, because to them, it's never been done before.

Chapter Text

The next day, the 3 of them were heading over to the distribution room to get their textbooks only to hear a noise, similar to a cheer. Almost immediately Naru left them, he knows troublesome when he hears or sees one, and damn, he'd rather deal with the Red Dragon's issues instead of children—even though, he was technically one.

"That's Valac Clara, a rather infamous weirdo, you mustn't get close to her!" Asmodeus whispered to Iruma but before they knew it, they were dragged with Clara by a teacher to the schoolyard.

"Hey, where's Naru-kun?" Iruma asked as he looked around for him. How come when he needs him to get them out of trouble, he's always out of sight? He knows Naru was capable of doing it if his interaction with Opera-san was anything to go by.

Said vampire found his way out the school and summoned the Red Dragon. It was much bigger than last time because it was now outside, it seems like the dragon can choose what size it appears in.

"You smell of death." And wow, isn't that a nice way to greet someone.

"Just say that I smell like blood please, it's like you're warning me that you'll kill me with that phrasing ..."

Completely ignoring Naru's remark, the dragon continued.

"It's a scent I'm familiar with. When I first appeared before you, you muttered something. "Mium", was it? I would like for that to be my name.

"You seem like someone who just tolerates my existence ... why become my familiar?" Naru had a feeling this dragon was from his world... by that, he meant The Birth of a Hero because it IS his world now, whether he liked it or not.

"As I've said before child, you feel familiar to me. You will help me with my revenge—" cutting himself off to show the hole on where his heart should be. "Revenge on the humans that robbed me of my life."

Nodding, Naru immediately assumed that maybe the arm had something to do with this; after all, if they can give a dragon egg, they can kill a dragon… But is this really fair? Why him! He just wants his slacker life!

… Right, he was already preparing for the inevitable future back in his home, so he might as well huh?

“... Sure.” Naru's voice came out strained.

"You are weak, I would like to accompany you." The dragon said, noticing his weak constitution. Mium could see the potential Naru holds, but right now he was weak.

Naru felt that his body became a bit heavier when he thinks about bringing this dragon back to his home.

But he didn't mind having a really strong bodyguard, after all; if Mium really came from the TBOAH world, then his power would be strong since he's a dragon "I don't mind but ... I don't think I can have a familiar out in school right now unless said otherwise ..." He spoke to the red dragon politely.

The dragon nodded then he shifted himself down to cat size. "I can be smaller and become invisible."

His mouth opened to make an 'o' as he felt stupid. Of course, Mium was a dragon; dragons can do almost anything.

Turning himself invisible and flying over Naru's shoulder. Naru felt hesitant to go back, because he still had so many questions, but the dragon didn't seem like he would answer his questions just yet. So, they went back to the distribution room, with no signs of Iruma and Asmodeus, Naru had to ask the professor he got his textbooks from.

"Iruma and Asmodeus? I guided them to the schoolyard." "Thank you." Pfft, guided. Naru doubts that.

When he got to the schoolyard, a few students were ahead of him along with the girl from earlier. He was slightly irritated at what he saw, they treated the girl as if she was a dog and in return, they got whatever they wanted from her. He may like taking advantage of people, but it's from people that deserve it, not from a child who only wanted to play.

Technically the bullies were kids too, but they deserve to be taught a lesson!

"Iruma ..." He said softly, was this the first time he said anything to him? He didn't know, but that's just wasn't fair for the girl.

"Yeah, Naru-kun ... I saw. Hey, Clara ... Just now ..." Iruma tried to ask but didn't know how.

"You see! If I give him something, he'll play with me sometimes in return!" "That's ..." "But! You guys are the first to seriously play with me! That's why ... Will you play with me again?"

Iruma looked at her before answer. "Sure!"

The girl, Clara looked at Naru then. "Are you also my new playmate?!" She asked excitedly and before he could even say no, he was dragged along with Iruma and Asmodeus for another round of whatever Clara wanted to play.

After a while Clara excused herself, followed by an invisible vampire—courtesy of Mium—and an Asmodeus who was simply trying to escape.

What met all 3 of them was the same students from earlier, shit talking Clara. The fucking audacity.

"... I know that." Clara said to herself before going back to the schoolyard.

Naru patted Mium to signal the dragon to make him visible and he did, Asmodeus, who was on the same corner as him saw him and didn't even ask anything.

They followed the students and saw that they had the audacity to go back and request something from Clara AGAIN, fortunately, whatever Iruma said; it worked and she dropped a whole vending machine on the main leader, of course the lackeys retreated. But Asmodeus and Naru still followed them.

Naru and Asmodeus worked together to ensure that those lackeys won't do it again.

Well, Mium and Asmodeus did.

After they were done, they went back to Iruma and Clara, Naru failed to realize in time that Asmodeus didn't know proper crime etiquette. You're not supposed to show that you beat someone up, which means; don't show up with tattered clothes!

"... you guys only talked to them, right?" Iruma hesitantly asked as he looked at Asmodeus tattered clothes.

"Yeah, I talked to them." Naru answered, he wasn't lying. He was the only one that talked to them…

Naru felt a little bad.

Iruma sighed in relief. And Naru gave him a pointed look, like did you really believe that? Do you trust us that much? Or are you just really naive?

Naru couldn't help but sigh.

Right, they were all children.

Because Naru was beside Asmodeus, he was hit by something slimy—or rather, there was an invisible entity that didn't want to get hit so he slightly tweaked the direction of the slime to Naru's direction.

"Oh no! I hit Ru-kun! I was supposed to hit Azu-azu because he's white! Like a canvas! Iruma-chi have the blue slimy paint, Ru-kun have the purple paint! Loser buys juice hehe!"

And just like that, they had a fun day. Or exhausting; if you ask Asmodeus and Naru. But deep down, they had fun as well.

-

"Mooorning Iruma-chi, Ru-kun!!" Clara greeted, Naru wasn't outside yet, but he did hear the greeting from all the way inside.

"Good for you, Iruma-kun; you made more friends!"

"Huh? Friends? More? But we aren't friends? They're just people I often play and talk with ..."

"Isn't that what friends do? Also, aren't you and little Naru, friends?"

"I thought we were cousins?" "Isn't that weirder? Anyways, let's all go together~ I have a meeting today!"

Can humans and demons even be friends??

Naru could only shake his head. Obviously, anyone can be friends with anyone. Depending on the context, you can call anyone your friend but it takes a while to consider them as one.

All the way to school, all Iruma could think about was the friend thing, all the way to eating; all he could think about was how he now had friends, wait can he consider them friends without their consent?

Before he knew it, a lot of food was literally thrown on their table, but Iruma was eating it at an alarming rate that Naru had to grab some for himself, he didn’t need to eat food but he still liked the taste. Asmodeus complained about the silly prank but he was cut off when he noticed that the table full of food was now a table full of empty plates.

The chef saw it as a challenge and continued to serve more food but in the end, he fainted. Naru shivered at Iruma's stomach. He didn't even finish his plate and had to give Mium some because he wanted to eat too.

Is this kid really human? Last I checked humans don’t eat like that…

Right after they finished eating, they went over to the shop; almost immediately Clara was stopped by the shopkeeper and even threatened her with a spear. Saying she can shoplift just by looking.

I mean Naru understands where he's coming from; how are you going to make a profit if there’s someone out there who can produce your goods right after seeing them?

"Silence! What's all this when I just came back?! Which idiot is causing all this ruckus—" Kalego froze as he was face to face with the one and only, Iruma.

"Sensei I-" "Zip it, listen here, I will never become your familiar. If you think you can chain me up, I will slit your damn throat." He threatened.

"Anyway, what are you lots—" he froze again, seeing a new member in this group of troublesome children. "Who's that—" he asked but was cut off again by the new member.

"Me? I'm Clara! I went bam into the shop and they got mad! But Azu-azu gave me snacks! Eggy-sensei are you really Iruma-chi's familiar?!" "Bye-" he needed to get out of here fast, he didn't like these types of people but before he could get away, Clara climbed on him and told Iruma to get a summoning seal.

"Stop— don't!" Almost immediately after he said not to do it, the brat of course, did it. Now he was back in this humiliating form.

"Undo the spell you moron! Clap your hands!" He shouted, but the shopkeeper didn't tolerate shoplifting and almost stabbed Iruma making the group of troublemakers run away and leave him for dead.

"Pay up." The shopkeeper said at Kalego after they captured him. Unfortunately, he didn't have his wallet with him because he's literally a freaking chick.

"How much was it?" Someone asked, Kalego turned to see the boy Naru; with his wallet out. If he remembered correctly, he was a part of that troublesome group. Good to know there was someone who was at least responsible, seriously; he's disappointed in Asmodeus.

After the shopkeeper released Kalego, both him and Naru waited until the effects of the seal wore off, which was about 10 minutes.

Immediately after Kalego transformed back, he paid Naru back and silently nodded as to show his thanks, hopefully the kid isn't dumb and understands that it was already a hit on his pride to let a kid pay for him.

Of course, Naru understood and he immediately went to the library instead of joining Iruma and the others again. Playing is too exhausting for him. He just finished the books that were given to him and you can never have too much information.

--

"Friends ..." Asmodeus couldn't help but smile as he cherished the title that Iruma had given them. "Lord Iruma, does that mean Naru is your friend too?"

Iruma turned to Asmodeus as he was preventing Clara from swallowing something. "Naru-kun...? Uhm... I guess..." But suddenly, he flinched.

Did that idiot Clara accidentally bite him! That fiend- "If Naru-kun, considers me a friend, then yes. After all, were cousins."

COUSINS?!?!?

I see!

Asmodeus understood now, there was no way a mere servant would have a magnificent aura like Lord Iruma unless he's related to him!

He thought back to what happened with those bullies.

~

Those demons didn't care about the flames, they were in pain but they refused to yield. Instead, they tried to run away. Asmodeus was getting tired at chasing them, his magic won't hit.

He was immediately reminded of his duel with Lord Iruma, to when his elegant fire magic won't hit him.

No. How DARE these excuse of demons mock Lord Iruma like this.

Before Asmodeus could use martial arts instead. Those fiends ran onto Lord Iruma's other servant, Naru.

Naru got pushed back but he only brushed his uniform before turning to them who only continued running. "Hey." Naru's voice oddly sounded influential, powerful. Asmodeus thought it might be because he doesn't speak often.

"I thought demons were supposed to be prideful." Is all he said before turning back, the demon strangely falling onto their knees in pain. Wait. No.

"Curse magic?" Asmodeus mumbled to himself, he could feel goosebumps all over his arms. This fellow servant... was also a strong demon.

Curses are inherently weak, but if mastered, it could bring pain without needing much effort, it is also permanent as long as the caster wishes it to be.

Asmodeus turned to Naru who's back was still turned, no, he seems to be exuding an aura of dominance while looking slightly to the side with a menacing glare.

He couldn't help but feel a bit inferior, how was he supposed to serve as Lord Iruma's right hand if his other servant was stronger, more capable than him?

~

Asmodeus couldn't help but sigh in relief. It seems Naru was merely jesting when he said he was a servant of Iruma.

Meanwhile at the library, Naru's ears itched.

'Is someone talking about me?'

Asmodeus was not aware that Naru got hurt by being bumped into and he said those things because why would prideful demons target those weaker than them?

—You're still bruised.

"My body is still weak is all, they were running really fast."

—It was intentional.

"No? They were running?" Naru can't help but want to shrink in his seat, Mium was seemingly angry more than usual for some reason.

—It was intentional.

The dragon only repeated himself.

Naru just nodded, his mind thinking back to what the dragon did to those poor demons.

What a scary dragon.

--

What Naru really appreciates is the fact that he can go home late and Sullivan and Opera wouldn’t mind.

During days like these, Naru would be too engrossed in reading all day, simply for the fun of it.

“Welcome home, Naru.”

He does find it creepy that Opera seems to be always there to greet him when he gets home, no matter how much he gives opinions on how Opera can do something more efficiently, he never gets used to the cat… demon… person.

“Are you well?” Opera cut him off from his thoughts.

“… I’m fine.” Naru mumbled as he walked inside. The vampire boy did not notice that Opera’s ears were flat, or how Opera’s normally flat tone seemed strained.

“Are you busy?”

Naru turned to look at Opera. “Uhm… No.”

“I would like to hear your opinion on how to make laundry more efficient.”

Naru nodded, in his mind, it made sense to help Opera with this, after all, his clothes are also laundered by Opera.

Quickly changing to a more comfortable outfit, Naru followed Opera to the large backyard of Sullivan’s mansion.

Naru tried jumping up to a tall rail to sit but he couldn’t quite reach it. He felt his stomach drop when he can no longer feel the floor under his feet.

He looked up to see that Opera helped him sit up the rail.

Embarassing…

Naru nodded as he sat properly. Opera left to show how they do laundry and Naru winced as he realized that Opera uses their body to do the laundry, quite literally, their body.

Naru was reminded of an old-fashioned way of making wine by crushing grapes with feet. Except… Opera was doing that with a lot of force…

How strong are those clothes…

“Uhm… Opera…” Naru was hesitant to point it out. “Have you ever thought of using magic…?”

Opera just shook their head. They don’t use magic.

“Oh. Why not use machines?”

Don’t tell Naru that they don’t have washing machines here.

“That seems to be an interesting thought, Naru-kun, just like your other ideas have been.”

No, those were just Earth’s inventions…

Naru spent the next hour with Opera trying to make a blueprint of a washing machine powered by magic.

“I don’t think that’s right, magic won’t flow through properly if the outlet is like that.” Opera commented, their tail and ears perked up. Naru couldn’t help but notice that the atmosphere felt a bit lighter.

They must really like inventing.

Naru continue fixing the blueprint until Opera was satisfied.

“I will bring the idea to Sullivan, if it works, this will greatly help with laundry. I’ll be able to do other tasks while doing laundry. You’re amazing, Naru-kun.” Opera’s tail swayed as they look at the blueprint.

Naru felt a bit weird.

He couldn’t help but think back to Fredo and the other he’s met after he transmigrated.

Naru just looked down on his tiny, pale hands. Everyone is so weird.

“Uhm… Thank you… I’ll be leaving now.” Naru bowed his head before he went back inside the mansion, leaving Opera with the blueprint on their hand.

Opera never sighs a lot. But this time, he did.

--

“How is my grandson, Iruma!~” Sullivan asked Opera, but he didn’t let the other reply. “He’s adorable! Capable! He already has friends! I’m so proud!”

Opera couldn’t help but nod. It was true, for a human, Iruma was adjusting really well in the Underworld. The child brings light to the demons he meets, Opera heard he even managed to tame Kalego.

Opera’s tail swayed, it was an entertaining thought. Kalego, tamed by someone else other than them.

However, the tone of the conversation immediately shifted when Opera thought of Naru. A vampire child, who seems to bear a heavy burden and brings darkness wherever he goes.

Sullivan sensed Opera’s change in mood, he’s known the demon long enough to pick up on these things.

“It’s about Naru, isn’t it?” Sullivan’s tone was serious.

“It’s been days since Naru has been here, but he still feels distant. Guarded.” Opera said, his tone flat but Sullivan could tell that they were worried.

“Fredo said that child has been with him for months but they barely made contact. I can feel it as well. The child’s soul. It’s heavy.” Sullivan sighed. Naru had always been a heavy topic for the both of them.

He also knew what kind of world Fredo lived in, it’s worse than Earth, and that’s saying something considering his grandson was sold to him.

“How will we ever help that child, Opera?” Sullivan slumped on his seat, his usually easy-going poise gone. He wanted to help Fredo, but the other didn’t allow him to.

Now that he basically had a nephew, he wanted to help the child too.

But it seems that Naru was hiding a burden that didn’t allow him to really be carefree.

Notes:

I added a scene at the end after reading some comments, I think it will help explain what I'm trying to convey
